Hello everyone, Just checking i after the weekend away. Hope everyone is well and hello to the new people Smile

Had a lovely time but discovered a new definition of agony on the way home: over an hour on a train with no working toilets when 6 and a half weeks pregnant.
It was horrendous, I pretty much need the toilet constantly at the moment. I seriously thought I was going to have an unfortunate accident in the middle of the train carriage Blush

featherblue · 18/10/2010 13:45

I haven't told mine yet, cep. Just not ready. It's not too difficult though, as they're all in the US. Most of them have no clue that we're remotely thinking of ttc, much less already pregnant, so there will be a lot of long conversations about life plans that I'd rather avoid if this pregnancy doesn't work out. I'd just rather put it off for a little longer until it feels more real.

cep · 18/10/2010 13:51

Can't blame you for that, sounds really intense, not what you need at this point, can come a lot later, there's plenty of time.

The only reason she knew i was at the dr's was cause she called and i didn't answer and she wanted to know why i didn't answer.
Couldn't think of anything quick enough so told her was seeing the dr about ttc.

Will they want you to go back to the US?

Just adding myself as i had disappeared off the list.
We told my parents this weekend at 6 weeks but only because DH works away all week and i am on my own.....DH wanted reassurance 'just in case'. Ideally i would have liked to have waited a few more weeks

CuppaMouldyBatBallsBrothJanice · 18/10/2010 13:58

Would everyone prefer to forget the stats list for a while? I've seen a few comments about not wanting to tempt fate by adding details. Maybe once everyone's reached 12 weeks and had scans then someone can trawl through the whole thread (I'll do it if no-one volunteers) and do the list then? We could even do a separate stats thread like the May group have.

cep the midwife didn't seem that bothered about weight. She didn't even weigh me! She asked and I said about 9 stone but could she put me down as 8 stone 8 so I'll get the extra scans they give people with low BMI. She said that was fine.

We told all the parents last weekend when I was 7 weeks. I've also told a couple of friends and my yoga teacher (who did a rubbish job of keeping my secret from the rest of the yoga group!).

I hope everybody is OK today. I'm finding it really difficult keeping up with this thread now there are so many of us!! I think there are a few people due early June that we haven't heard from for a while. I hope no news is good news and they are all doing fine!

cep · 18/10/2010 14:02

i think it's a bit different when you're over weight. Last time i had to see a consultant every couple of months, they get worried about diabetes.

they also didn't tell me until i was a couple of weeks to my due date that i may not be able to have my son at the midwife lead centre although i'd been saying all along that i wanted to have him there. Am worried as i want to go back there and i'm still a stone over what i was last time.

yellowtomato · 18/10/2010 14:16

Hi loujalou don't worry about the stats you can do that when you're ready (or not at all if you don't feel like it!) For the number of weeks they tend to initially count from the date of your last period so I think you're right and you'd be exactly 5 weeks. Just 2 days behind me! Grin I am feeling very nervous too and am trying not to think about it too much but it's so difficult.

TumTum that train journey does sound stressful, I'm not having the same problem yet but I guess it is only a matter of time...

Wrt to telling people I think just stick to what you are comfortable with. I know I won't be telling any family before 12 week scan but may tell some friends before.

Am feeling very tired now but that might just be due to the enormous jacket potato I had at lunchtime!

featherblue · 18/10/2010 14:22

Haha yes, cep, they will want us to move back before the due date! (but will realise that's not feasible as pregnancy is considered a 'pre-existing condition' by most US health insurers, so I wouldn't be covered. But that's a complaint for another thread :) )

We are planning to move back a few months after the birth, if possible job-wise. I'm ready to be near my family again, especially with a baby. We've been here 5 years, so we just sort of feel it's time. Will certainly miss London and our friends here though!

I'm happy to lose the stats list for a while...

cep · 18/10/2010 14:33

Tell them it's more expensive in America, it's free here so financialy it's more viable to stay here at least for the pregnancy and birth. :)

It's nicer to have the scan pics when you tell them something for them to look at. :) Have you thought about how you're going to tell them yet? i have all these ideas going through my head.

featherblue · 18/10/2010 14:48

Have you decided how to tell yours? Did anyone do anything special to tell their parents? I'm sure I'll cave before my scan and will just blurt it out on the phone.

Anyone worried about telling work? I know in my head that it's absolutely my right to go on maternity leave, but I'm dreading it. The person with my job before me (I've been here 1.5yrs) left to move back to Australia to have a baby; my line manager is on maternity leave now; another person at work was on maternity leave, came back for a few months and is now on maternity leave again. The manager always makes snide comments to them/about them (she's a treat in general) like 'it's catching' and 'it's possible to be pregnant for years, look at so-and-so'. Not looking forward to that conversation!

melltobe · 18/10/2010 15:06

Hey all, just checking in as I've not posted for a while but have been keeping up with reading the posts. It's great to see so many people on here now.

I kind of agree about the stats. I think they're a good idea but I've felt so sad each time someone has left the thread because of things not going to plan then it just seems even more sad that their stats are there, showing what should have been. There was a nice thing on another due date thread I saw which included a 'thinking of' section for people who have left the thread.

I hope I don't sound negative, I guess we're all going through the same stresses to reach the big 12 week goalpost. Good luck all :)

cep · 18/10/2010 15:06

as my 12 weeks is a couple of weeks before christmas i've been thinking of putting a copy of the scan in an envelope and having ds give it to my parents disquised as an xmas present from him.

She sounds awful. does she have any of her own? is she young or old? is it a small business? Just remember you'll only be there for a few more months and then that's it.

NurseSunshine · 18/10/2010 15:44

Please can I join or am I too late?! I only found out a week ago! I am 7 weeks now, due 4th of June '11.

I'm ridiculously worried about reaching the 12week milestone. This is my first and I'm trying not to let it stress me out but I feel as though once I'm 12 weeks and have had my first scan then I'll be safe(r)!

cep · 18/10/2010 16:06

Hello NurseSunshine course you're not too late. Is normal to be worried at least for the first 12 weeks, trust me not only typical of 1st pregnancy i'm just as worried this time as i was last time if not worse this time.

wonnaywombat · 18/10/2010 16:18

Welcome nursesunshine! Your dates are the same as mine and it's my 1st too (barring one mc in June). It is a stressful time - and time is moving sooooo slowly. I think we're all wishing we could find a time machine right now!

cep - loved your idea of putting the scan in an envelope for xmas pressies

featherblue - she sounds jurassic!

cuppamouldybatballs - I think your suggestion is a sensitive and sensible one and would support it.

melltobe - good to see you back on here again!

DeadBodyofKaraStarbuckThrace · 18/10/2010 16:36

Yes I agree leave the stats until the twelve week mark. The 1st trimester can be a bit of a rollercoaster.

Still lots of nausea... plus craving strawberry milkshake, cheese and yoghurt!

Oh no just read message about the stats- sorry

petitech · 18/10/2010 17:36

Hi All
Had another appt at the docs and the spotting def seems to have eased up. GP said for now that might be best just to let everything settle down if I'm not in any pain and considering they saw the heartbeat last week. She said if they were to do another scan it might start the bleeding/spotting off again!
On a more positive night and I guess as reassurance I have been so violently ill today, I had the day off work so GOD knows how I am going to cope tomorrow, I literally had to walk out of a shop today because I am almost threw up.
Does anyone have any magic MS solutions!?
Looking at this thread will there be a population spike in June 2011! Nice to see so many newcomers and reassuring to see that so many are first timers like me.
I have come to the conclusion having worried and worried over the last few days with this spotting that NOTHING is guaranteed until the baby arrives and no single scan or single doctor's opinion can guarantee that between now and then so unless I want to drive myself (and you all in the process) sick with worry I need to try and be a bit more "what will be, will be" (she says!)
Happy Monday all and hope everyone is feeling ok x

moomin156 · 18/10/2010 17:39

Hi Cherry welcome to the no symptoms club......i am 6+2 today and the only sign i have had is the sore boobs, which do come and go.
Today though i have spent the afternoon in bed, but not bean related i dont think......pure fluey symptoms and have slept for 3 hrs. There is so much going around work the last few weeks

moomin156 · 18/10/2010 17:48

petitech i like that attitude but i think its easier said than done, especially for us first timers. You have a lot of positive signs which must be reassuring. I am also trying not to be obsessed and i am trying to be positive and for me i know it wont end at the 12 weeks as i am a natural born worrier.....LOL
Thankfully DH is a very positive influence on me and despite our whirlwind relationship he knows exactly how to deal with me. I hope yours is too
Cant help with MS advice as so far havent had any.......

Clarkiee · 18/10/2010 17:52

totally agree with moomin good attitude petitech (and like you say it's easier said than done).

My lack of symptons is a mixed blessing- glad I don't feel rough but keep wondering if I'm actually pregnant! Can tell you one thing though I am bloody KNACKERED!!!!!!

moomin156 · 18/10/2010 17:59

So am i Clarkiee, DH thinks fluey symptoms could just be under the weather exhausted symptons.....the 3 hr kip was heaven i have to say.
Not sure how long i can keep the secret up at work, as soon as i said i wasnt well 2 people said "are you pregnant".......the trouble with sharing your whirlwind romance with everyone at work LOL.
I wont have the "boss" problems as i am the boss of my area but that doesnt make it any easier i can tell you.
