Hermya321 · 22/09/2010 15:17

Oneof8 Thanks for that, I spoke with them and they've moved it till the Monday. I know it's only an extra day, but it may make a little bit of a difference down the line. Oh well, all done and dusted now.

OP posts:
OneOf8 · 22/09/2010 15:56

It may only be an extra day, but it can make a difference - will affect when you are due back and your money, so was worth looking into - I'd have done the same!

Glad its all sorted now tho!

Hermya321 · 22/09/2010 16:03

Am a lady of leisure now!! Grin

What the hell am I meant to do with myself besides become some sort of half woman/half sofa?

OP posts:
OneOf8 · 22/09/2010 16:12

I have some ironing that needs doing, you are welcome to pop round mine to practise nesting - then when you have the urge to do your own home you'll be ace at tidying!! Grin

addie81 · 22/09/2010 16:36

Chance and worriesome - pleased to hear that you are trundling through the last few weeks without any major problems. I am just back from my 38 week GP appointment and she says the baby is 3/5 engaged, which I think means 2/5 of the baby's head has dropped down into my pelvis. I was pleasantly surprised by this as I didn't really feel that the head had engaged. Some friends have told me that you will know as soon as this happens as you will feel like you have an orange between your legs, but others have said they didn't really notice! Now that I know she is partly engaged I will be upping my efforts to try and get her fully engaged. I still have a summons to draft before I can start maternity leave so I am going to work on that whilst bouncing on my birthing ball in front the computer this evening and try and get her heading further south!

I have to go back in 7 days instead of the planned 14 because there was protein in my urine today. I have terrible swelling but I have had that for weeks, and my BP hasn't gone up significantly so I am reasonably confident its not the start of pre-eclampsia.

I don't have any plans to return for more acupuncture! I am going for a weekly massage with a woman who specialises in pregnancy massage and that is absolutely fantastic - its a much better way to spend the money I think!!!

Pixie - OMG that's so exciting. Are you going to go for the induction? I know people say that inductions can be tricky, with a higher risk or epidural and intervention, but I know a few people who have had one and had no problems at all. If the consultant is suggesting it I personally would probably take their advice and go for it, although I think you should clarify exactly why it is that they think you need to be induced. Are you engaged etc? Is your cervix favourable for a sweep? That might get things going without the need for the syntocin drip. Good luck!!!

WorrisomeHeart · 22/09/2010 16:54

yay hermya!! Can I recommend a well planned day of sleeping, lounging and lolling? Grin To be honest, I've had all sorts of plans to do stuff and don't seem to have the energy to do much. I have two 'free' (as in no hosp/mw appts etc) days coming up so am determined to clean the flat - it may take a lot of breaks, but it WILL get done!
Great news though, just take it easy and enjoy the rest.

addie not great re the protein although I guess they're not overworried about it if they're still happy to see you in a week! Congrats on the partial engagement too! We are at similar levels of engagement and you are a week ahead of me on dates.. I wonder if that means mine will be early or yours will be late - or nothing at all!! Grin

Went back to MAU today for my further bloods and they popped me on the CTG which meant I got to listen to Mr Teeny's heartbeat for about 30 mins - bliss! Funniest thing was that they got me to press this button whenever he kicked, and then they did the bloods when I was on the monitor - resulting in a mega kick from the LO!! Silly baby. Grin

Have a lovely evening all - our cot has finally arrived so I'm crossing fingers that DH will be energetic enough to set it up tonight!!

superpenguin · 22/09/2010 17:17

Hello everyone!

Gosh it's all happening isn't it! Looking forward to hearing more birth stories soon!

haloflo · 22/09/2010 19:32

Evening all. Very excited for the up and coming arrivals. We will have a whole crowd of babies soon.

Just an update from last night's post. GP thinks its sciatica so I've been told to keep moving, take paracetamol and wait for a maternity physio appointment. I got a bit upset this morning over the lack of help and the fact I still have 6 months to go until my EDD but am feeling a bit more positive after some messages today (you know who you are!)

pixie I hope you feel you can make an informed decision soon. Good luck if its Friday. Sorry I can't help more. xx

hermya I am hoping it's just a phase. 14 weeks does seem early on. There isn't any yoga at my local leisure centre and that's all I looked at last night (it wasn't thorough research) I think I may try a normal class at my local university as private classes seem quite expensive but am defiantly going to buy a dvd. A knitted boob at antenatal classes? Bizarre! Seems I've a lot to learn. ML starting Monday sounds fab. I can't believe how far along you are now!

crazy Sorry you are feeling sick (but as you say it's a good sign) Mine started to ease about 11 weeks and if that seems like forever away be reassured that I kind of got used to it. I knew when to eat, when to sleep to manage it after a while. I hope you can too.

penguin You feeling better yet? You know when your next scan is?

bunnygirl80 · 22/09/2010 23:53

hermya yay for being a lady of leisure Smile If you're stuck for something to do then you can always come over here and help me with my massive to do list Grin

MrsW how frustrating that you're stuck with being in the first trimester for a bit longer. At least you're getting an extra scan though

worrisome sorry about the nausea - I feel like I'm getting a bit of MS back at the moment. If I don't eat as soon as I'm hungry or if I get overtired I feel really sick. It's like being back in the first trimester all over again!

It must have been lovely to listen to Mr Teeny for such a long time

oneof8 it's great that you got an extra chance to see LO. I haven't taken DH to any of my appointments after the first one cos he spent so much time tutting about having to wait 10 mins to be seen.

I'm officially on mat leave now (well actually I'm unemployed but mat leave sounds more respectable!!). Had a lovely last day at work - all the nurses finished early and came to the airport to wave me off. Even the evil boss sent me a nice leaving gift.

I made a startling discovery yesterday night...I can no longer see my bikini line past my bump. Was trying to decide whether to go for a wax next week or if I can leave it a bit longer and when I looked down to check the situation I couldn't see at all. Blush While I knew this would happen eventually, it totally freaked me out cos it seems to have happened pretty much overnight - I'm certain I could see last week and now a whole area of my body has disappeared from view. I'd imagined that this kind of thing would happen gradually, rather than just waking up one day with body parts no longer visible. Am getting kind of worried that I'll wake up in a couple of days and not be able to see my toes Grin

chancewouldbeafinething · 23/09/2010 01:34

pixie i dont know how i missed your post - that would have been a shock. Have you managed to speak to your consultant yet? can DH go with you for a bit of support?

worrisome i had one cup of tea yesterday - I didnt notice anything. MW advised to start by having a little each day and building up to a few cups, so will see. But still no BH for me yet, not sure if i shoudl be happy about that or not. Hope you are feeling better today:)
When do you get the results from the bloods? Hope you had fun setting up the cot:)

crazy sorry to hear you are not feeling very well. I know it may be the last thing that you feel like but try a milk shake. I think hobnob and i have survived on chocolate milk (it keeps you feeling full and its not too heavy) and i usually HATE drinking milk.

oneof8 I hope by 28weeks your sugars are ok so you dont have to be on the strict diet the others have been on! Fab news you got an extra scan, amazing to see the LO when you dont expect to. Our DH sound the same with the watch checking - its so annoying isnt it?

hermya welcome to the club - i am sure you will find plenty to amuse yourself with!

addie great news - the bouncing is clearly working for you. The swelling is a pain isnt it? the only way i can keep my feet down is if i put on blood pressure tights as soon as i wake up, and even then they do come up a bit. Enjoy the massage - i am contemplating going for one myself in the next week.

bunny i cant remember when i could see my bikini line, and feet forget about it:) i have been getting DH (or anyone else who was handy) to do up laces on my cons for a fair while now. (nieces and nephews come in handy sometimes)

I think i may have to give in and get the splint for my arm, i will give it another day or so but it seems to be getting worse. i am having to do most things with my left hand now (this post has taken hours to do!)

Hope everyone is well - cant wait to hear from Hobnob and RosesGrin

bunnygirl80 · 23/09/2010 07:52

I've managed to acquire a spare copy of "What to expect...the first year"

Can't really tell the person who sent it to me that I'd already got a copy due to various long and complicated reasons, and can't just secretly take it back to a shop to exchange as it was sent from the UK.

So if anybody wants it let me know. I'm quite happy to post it back to the UK Smile

kurlyvoice · 23/09/2010 09:33

Hi all,

On my second day off sick from school (and suffering all the classic guilt from leaving my exam classes with cover teachers) but feeling so nauseous, thoroughly exhausted and have a really bad headache. If I manage to eat something then I feel a bit better while I'm eating it and then instantly feel sick again. Grrr! So no cake for me at the moment, crazy and worrisome.

Feels so silly not being at school when LO is the size of a kidney bean but don't want to push myself into something going wrong or throw up while standing in front of a class of Year 8s (which so nearly happened on Monday)! Hoping I can make it in tomorrow and feel like I've earned some weekend.

Sorry for me me me but is there anyone out there who had to have a few days off in their first trimester to make me feel less pathetic?

crazybutterflylady · 23/09/2010 10:30

Morning all, thanks for the kind words about my sickness. I actually left work at lunchtime yesterday because it was so bad! I came back in this morning though because I feel lame!

chance I bought some chocolate milk from M&S on my way home yesterday and it did seem to help a little. I bought it to replace the calcium I'd originally been getting from yogurts, but I can't face them now. I have just had a mozarella and tomato croissant from pret and that worked temporary wonders too! So I think you are right halo, it's just a case of managing it and finding things that work for you. Sadly for me, the biggest help seems to be sleep and I'm not sure my employers are going to allow me to sleep solidly for the next 6 weeks Grin selfish people!!

kurly you have my total sympathy...I am feeling exactly the same way as you. If I could just eat eat eat (and sleep in between) I think I would be fine. The other thing I am finding helpful (especially on my journey into work) is butter mints or mint humbugs... they seem to take the edge off it slightly, I think because they last a long time? And I went to pg yoga last night - I thought I would be a mess but the breathing really helped me control the nausea. Perhaps see if you can find a class near you? Another thing I am doing is eating a huge meal at lunchtime, like jacket potato - it seems to stave off the nausea for longer (and I have an innocent smoothie with it for extra vitamins - I wouldn't recognise fruit and veg these days!)

bunny I am sorry but I did laugh when I read you couldn't see your bikini line! I can't wait until I have that good a bump instead of a bloated jelly belly. If nobody else asks for your book I don't have that one yet - but then I have quite a way to go before I start thinking about the first year so please feel free to send it to someone who is in more need of it!!

hermya many congrats on your ML, wahooo!

oneof8 such a guru! I might drop your an IM if you don't mind as I could do with some advice relating to my maternity benefits...?

worrisome so cute about LO's kicking :) and very exciting about the cot... hearing all this stuff really makes the nausea worthwhile for me, I can't wait to be at your stage!

Have a good day everyone xxx

OneOf8 · 23/09/2010 11:26

Crazy ask away! I'm still paying the student loan for learning this stuff, so be happy to share - I hate it when people miss out on something just because they were misinformed! - Just highlight it on here that I have a message, as I often have a lurk without logging in!

I finally* got my Mat certificate yesterday, so will be entering my formal confirmation details at work this week (office today, swimming over the weekend)

*actually have it early as only 23 weeks - but had to plan my finances really early on due to our situation, so feels like I had been waiting forever!

What made me shake my head in disbelief smile is I will be writing a letter to myself (as the HR person) then writing my own response for the director to sign off on behalf of the business - as my boss is not HR trained, and he asked me to do it!

Might slip a few extras in there!!

Kurly and Super sorry you guys are feeling poo still. Hope you start to find the magic fix soon!

Hope everyone else is well?

crazybutterflylady · 23/09/2010 11:43

Thanks oneof8... you have mail :) xx

OneOf8 · 23/09/2010 14:34

Crazy - you now also have mail! Grin

pixiestix · 23/09/2010 14:45

Hi guys,
A flying visit from me, and I will try to get back on later and respond to everyone in detail, but I just wanted to say thank you for all the supportive messages. I was really in a head spin on Tuesday and it helped to know that you all would have been as well iykwim Confused Feeling much happier today and have spoken to about five different consultants over the last two days. [nightmare patient emoticon]

So the final decision is - I am going to go for it tomorrow and should have my LO by Sunday! They are anticpating all kinds of horrors as the little bugger is still not engaged so I have been told to prepare myself for it ending in a C section. Is it terribly, terribly wrong of me to think that at least if it goes that way I will escape with my ladybits intact!!!! Grin Grin Grin Silver lining to every scenario, hey?!

Glad everyone is doing well. Keep up the puking, it is an excellent sign!! Grin

WorrisomeHeart · 23/09/2010 14:49

Oh wow pixie such great news! How exciting!!!!!!

This is just a flying post as I want to go searching the boards for an answer to my next question - do any of you know if feeling a bit period-ish is a sign of things happening? Have been feeling very heavy in that region today - very similar to how I used to feel before AF bit. No cramps as yet, just kind of a dragging feeling. Do you think this could be anything?? Am I grasping at straws?????

OneOf8 · 23/09/2010 16:33

Woo Hoo Pixie !

How exciting to have a "due by" date! Admittedly I'd be shi*ting myself initially - but still very pleased for you as must be wonderful to have the light at the end of the tunnel be so clear!

Worri no idea - hope you find the answer x

Hermya321 · 23/09/2010 19:32

Some of you know that I've had a few issues with pain over the last few days and I've had some not so succesful trips to the Doctors and pharmacists where they were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

This morning though, I went to the Doctors and well the guy must have been a locum because I've never met this particular Doc before. It all went well by the way, he gave some co-codemol and was very sympathetic. But, he was Dr McDreamy in the flesh. I had one naughty hormone that was gushing in my ear throughout the whole appointment pointing out his various positive attributes, and another one cursing my stupidity that I didn't put on any mascara before I went to the Doctors.

I seriously should have hung around outside the local med school in uni faking fainting fits and stuff.

Apart from that I nipped into work to sort out some final bits. I had to use the local office as I wasn't driving for over an hour to send an email. I'm going to miss them all, I loved going to work. I hope I'll feel the same way when it's time to go back.

Pixie Yay!! Thats so exciting, you'll be holding your LO by the weekend.

Worrisome They say the start of labour is a bit like period cramps, go for a walk and see if you can get things moving a bit.

Oneof8 Don't forget to ask yourself for a raise.

Kurly I used up a weeks worth of leave, had two days off and used a heck of a lot of flexi time when I was in my first trimester. I felt like death warmed up. Some people have breezy pregnancies where they can work right up till their due date and others end up on bed rest the entire time. I think it's one of those things, you can't help it. Don't feel guilty please, you're growing a person and that takes a hell of a lot out of you.

Bunny Funny you should post about that, I've been walking past the salon and wondering if I should take a walk on the wild side and get myself looking a bit tidier down there. How long does a bikini wax normally last before you get regrowth?

Chance As a former CTS person, I can not recomend wearing a splint enough. If you feel you can, try wearing it at night as this way it gives your wrist a bit of a break. Can you go see a private physio for a one off session? I had some and it really did the trick for me.

Halo Bizarely my friend actually makes knitted boobs for groups like this, she said it gives her great amusement to knit a breast. In all honesty I can kinda see why.

Also I was wondering, I know we've talked about the idea of a post natel topic, but I've seen other threads that kind of lump it all together with babies and pregnancy on the one thread. Do you think thats worth doing or should we keep it separate?

OP posts:
bunnygirl80 · 24/09/2010 00:16

pixie how exciting. Good luck Smile

crazy message me your address and I'll pop the book in the post for you.

oneof8 lol at you having to write to yourself and then respond. You definitely need to add in a few extras - I'm thinking you should remind of the legislation that says it is the company's resposibility to ensure that you get a delivery of cakes and yummy treats each week while you're on mat leave Wink

worrisome period cramps sounds like a good sign that things are starting to get ready. Have read something somewhere about a dragging sensation - can't remember what it means though - possibly LO being fully engaged

hermya maybe you could find some minor ailments to go and consult Dr McDreamy about Grin As for waxing - I normally get the start of some regrowth after about 4 weeks, and it definitely needs redoing after 6.

I think we should probably have a seperate post-natal topic as pretty soon there's going to be a fair number of us with babies we want to chat about. This thread might get a bit confusing with all the baby talk lumped in with the pg talk. Also, it might be kinder to those here who have difficult pgs/worries about mc if the baby chat is seperate, just like this thread kind of started so those still TTC weren't stuck reading lots of posts moaning about the less glamourous aspects of being pg. If we keep things seperate then people can avoid the baby stuff if it's upsetting for them to read at a particular point in time

That's just my opinion though - if everyone else is happy to keep things all together then I'm fine with that too Smile

chancewouldbeafinething · 24/09/2010 00:38

worrisome YES it is a sign (most people have either that or the feeling of wanting to do a no. 2) good luck and keep us updated!

pixie that is very exciting, i hope that LO pays attention and behaves once it all starts. You are right though, the thought of keeping bits intact crosses my mind every time they mention the size of my baby. Good luck, i hope it goes smoothly xx

hermya i think i will be going to physio on monday - i am just waiting for a call back now. It is getting worse, and i am guessing that sleeping couldnt get harder so i figured why not.
What luck you had with McDreamy! did you find out how long he will be there for? I am sure you could think of a reason to go back again.

crazy good to hear that you found some food that made you feel more human. I found that if i ate little and often i kept the sickness at bay.

kurly dont feel bad, you just have to take it as it comes, everyone is different. Those first few months are tough as your body is being taken over, try and get some rest.

bunny thanks for the offer I have that book in one of my boxes that is on a ship somewhere (hopefully near australia by now)
Have you seen the Hugh Jackman ice tea ad? was just on ch 10, very funny:)

well not much happening here, raspberry leaf tea didnt bring on any BH so far. LO is being very active now that he has moved down and has some more space to kick me

WorrisomeHeart · 24/09/2010 07:39

Well, still feeling 'periodish' but nothing more. However I had a MAJOR meltdown last night over nothing, so maybe raised hormones?? Poor DH, he had a hysterically sobbing wife to deal with and I couldn't even tell him what was wrong! Surreal actually. Makes me wonder if LO is descending/has descended further and things are just gearing up a notch. I had a very strange dream last night that I had a little baby girl and everyone was expecting me to go straight back to work and I couldn't work out how she could go without being fed/being left by herself for 8-9 hours... Hmm Hope it's not a sign that the sonographer was wrong about the sex of the baby [WH looks at her all blue nursery...]

Hermya lucky lucky you!! Lol at the thought of you faking passing out in front of a whole load of med students!

I agree with Bunny that we should have a seperate thread - maybe the FF Postgrads!

chance Here's hoping the raspberry leaf tea starts making a difference soon!!

superpenguin · 24/09/2010 08:57

Hellos!
Well the good news is I am starting to feel better. :) 17 weeks today so about time really. And not quite back to my usual self but I'd say I'm around 90% well! Probably helps that I had the week off work on leave this week!

Anyway, regarding taking time off sick, I had a whole week off sick around week 9ish it was so awful. So don't feel bad if you're not well enough to work it's not your fault and there's nothing you can do about it.

My next scan is booked for 15 Oct by the way.

Very excited about the imminent arrivals for some of you!

fudgecat · 24/09/2010 09:59

Hi everyone

Just to let you know that baby Elliot was born asleep last Friday morning. He was the most beautiful little boy that you could ever imagine. We got to spend some time together as a family and tell him how much we love him and how he will always be our precious little boy.

Thank you for all of your support and friendship over the last few months, I will have a lurk now and then to see how you are all getting on. All the best for the future.
All my love

X
