slowshow · 05/01/2011 17:31

Thanks HH!

Didn't go to work today. Still worried sick about boobs no longer being sore, and then when I went to the loo shortly before leaving I noticed a tiny amount of light brown spotting. Freaked out and phoned in sick. I KNOW it could be nothing (I have cervical erosion which could be one of the main culprits) but I've been feeling absolutely wretched, crying all day. On the plus side I still can't eat a damn thing, but that could just be because I'm so scared.

highheelsandequations · 05/01/2011 17:45

Oh slow poor you, I've had brown spotting twice now, first time scan showed a patch of bleeding in uterine lining and pip fine, still waiting to make sure everything's ok after second time. Both times medical staff have said it's very common in early pregnancy and can be caused by many things, including your cervical erosion. I know nothing can help with the fear though. Hope your DH is looking after you. Thinking of you xx

cherrycobbler · 05/01/2011 17:49

oh no slowshow, what a worry, have everything crossed for you. As you say light brown spotting could well be absolutely nothing - lots of ladies on here have had it and its been fine. Try to stay positive, though obv much easier said than done. Highheels has some very wise words. And stop jiggling your boobs! My boobs got less sore in the first few weeks.

crazy that thread made me laugh out loud at my desk! I would have had to leave the country (and leave my child at that party for ever).

HH glad you managed to speak to EPU and got a scan booked in. Exhaustion and constant eating sound like good symptoms! And sounds v sensible to tell work anyway. Are you still bleeding?

Hope all is going well with oneof8!!

Well girls looks like we are going to need a new thread soon. Any ideas for new thread titles? something about new year, new babies and hopefully lots of new frolicker bfps?

highheelsandequations · 05/01/2011 18:35

cherry spotting seems to have stopped but not saying it too loudly in case it comes back. Like the thread title ideas, I've no inspiring ideas just now but will put on my thinking cap..

cherrycobbler · 05/01/2011 18:58

v glad to hear it and will keep fingers crossed for you. hope this is the last of the worries for you xx

HermyaLovesLysander · 05/01/2011 21:41

Slow I could be wrong but if it's brown, it means it's old blood and it could be from implantation .

HH I'm so pleased you have another appointment, you haven't had an easy time of it have you. I hope everything starts to settle down for you soon.

Crazy That thread was so so funny!!

Just reporting from the other side of bumpsville, DS is doing well. His character is starting to come out more and more these days. It's quite funny but at times I've noticed him sat in his bouncy chair with his hands clasped together aka <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=blog.prospect.org/blog/ezraklein/assets/ezraklein.typepad.com/blog/Monty%2520Burns.jpg&imgrefurl=www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/ezraklein_archive%3Fmonth%3D04%26year%3D2007&usg=__5uMKiUXUUajEy8OAea_AjkjCldg=&h=425&w=312&sz=41&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=T_i7_jA5oZhkpM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=99&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmonty%2Bburns%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1003%26bih%3D596%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=691&vpy=80&dur=109&hovh=262&hovw=192&tx=119&ty=183&ei=PeUkTZDeM42XOuXK2eMI&oei=PeUkTZDeM42XOuXK2eMI&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Mr Burns. It worries me as to what evils he could be planning in his little head whilst he bashes his elephant toy over the head.

MrsWajs · 06/01/2011 01:46

Hermya I was going to suggest that brown blood possibly means old blood as too.

I had a teeny teeny . . . . well, spot (is probably the only way to describe it)of blood just before I found out I was pregnant so it definitely could be implantation bleeding slowshow I know (like we all do) how completely nerve-wracking the first few weeks are but rest-assured you're in good company here :)

I remember being pretty naffed off cus I had no symptoms for the first week or two after my BFP and then they all hit me like a train! Not cool!

highheels glad to hear the bleeding seems to have stopped and keeping everything tightly crossed for Tuesday though, I'm sure everything will be ok :)

Cherry I think going by the average speed of this one, it's very possible that aly, muser, superpenguin, haloflo, saoralba, kurlyvoice, ME!!!, stegasaurus and yourself could all be having our babies in the next thread!!! So maybe we should dedicate it to ourselves GrinWink
OMG how scary is that actually!!

luckyseven · 06/01/2011 09:27

So here is my very long and overdue birth story ....
During the Strictly Come Dancing Final I started to feel period crampy and there was a bit of blood every time I went to the loo but prob not enough to be a show. Went to bed and and woke again at 2am with pains 10 mins apart so got the tens machine on and tried to dose off between them. Me being me had a notebook beside the bed to record and describe them and the pains / contractions continued to 11am on the Sunday when I thought I had forgotten to count them but were in fact starting to be 20 mins and then 10 mins apart. Rang the hospital for advice and was told rather brusquely ? no love you are not in labour, it could be days, it is false / spurious labour. You know the way people say they are in labour for days? Well they are not actually in labour things are just starting off? Brilliant 12 hours of discomfort for nothing!

Slept and had a bath as directed and no pain when I was in the bath. About 7pm Sunday started to get a really sore back which was only helped by sitting on the toilet or dangling over the Swiss ball. Tens machine was also fab at this stage and would totally second mumsnerves love of the Tens. Called my mum who told me to ring the hospital and this time I got a different midwife who said come in we will check you out but be prepared to be sent home.

Made it to the hospital through snow and ice and when I got checked out they said I was in very early labour, did a sweep but because my bp was up they couldn?t send me home. It also meant I couldn?t go to my first choice of home from home to labour in water but by this stage I was taking dp?s advice of ?don?t be a hero, drugs are good? and keeping an open mind. There were no spaces on the labour ward, several emergencies in surgery so I was sent to the home from home until they decided what to do with me! Couldn?t get omnipon as the doctors were all in theatre and eventually I got moved to a private room. At the time I didn?t realise it was the post natal ward and had the loveliest midwife with me who was just amazing. Continued with the Tens machine and eventually was given gas and air which was amazing One time it ran out and the TENS just didn?t cut it anymore! DH had a go as well and I would gladly swap red wine for gas and air if you could buy it over the counter.

Things progressed quite quickly thanks to the sweep and between midnight and 5am I got to 10 cm. No medical staff available to give me stronger pain relief of remyfentinol and no beds available in delivery suite so I was moved back down to home from home because my bp was down but too late or water and eventually given pethidine and told to start pushing. I was so off my chops I really thought I had to push twice and the baby would arrive! Poor baby?s heart rate dropped during contractions and I was given 15 mins to deliver or they would have to go to surgery. Pushed and pushed but it turned out she was never going to make it out without assistance as she was face up. Got rushed upstairs, the midwife raised merry hell with the doctors and she was eventually delivered via forceps by the most chilled out registrar ever. I just remember thinking I haven?t done all this work for a caesarean. Had to get ?the works? down below and after she was delivered and placed on my stomach she was checked out, handed to dh and I went next door to surgery for a spinal block to get stitched properly.

Despite all the drama I have to say it was a really positive experience, not as bad as I had feared and the midwives were excellent. You will be amazed at how your body takes over and you cope with everything that happens.

Life since then has been hectic, you all know about my disasters of a return trip to hospital for phototherapy for jaundice, snow and ice, no running water for three days, smashed Smartphone, broken ghds, broken washing machine and the latest is £700 of identity fraud on I tunes (don?t save your card details on there ladies) but we have survived and Beth is just amazing. Nothing will prepare you for how much you will love them, being a mum is the best, tough at times but so worth it.

Tips I can pass on ...

  • do not underestimate the amount of maternity and breast pads you will need.
  • bring a dark towel/s to the hospital
  • Your washing machine will never be off
  • you will need at least one pair of pjs per day
  • Cook meals for the freezer they have been a god send.
  • If you are breast feeding also know how to sterilise bottles, use your pump prior to the birth and not when baby is screeching, refusing to feed and you want to try a bottle or formula ? I think bunny found the same.
  • Put dh/dp in charge of anything that requires instructions, your brain is so addled making a cup of tea can be a challenge.
  • I have replaced the Tommy Tippee with the Medela Swing and I love it ? currently £75 on Amazon and I have a code somewhere in the bounty packs for free breastmilk bags. I got mine in Mothercare with a £10 off voucher from their baby club and then got them to price match amazon. Medela shells are great for collecting milk if the boob you are not feeding from leaks during feeding.
  • You will get loads of Next vouchers as gifts so might be worth using for big purchases post birth. eg cot etc
  • Don?t buy too many first size baby gros two weeks in and b is busting out if them! She is more long than fat but looks like a wee sumo in them! You will need more up to one month and 0 ? 3 as people buy you clothes from 3 months in my experience.
  • Get a puncture repair kit in a pound shop, our quinny got a puncture first trip out!
  • Pick up a cheap throw / rug to cover any non wipe clean furniture when feeding.

Can?t wait to read the next birth stories and the long overdue influx of BFPs, congrats to slowshow hope the next few weeks pass quickly and are uneventful. Thanks to everyone for their company through trying and pregnancy, this thread has meant a lot to me.

PS sorry this is so long have been typing it for nearly a week ? it took me three days to watch the Americas Next Top Model final!

crazybutterflylady · 06/01/2011 11:00

luckyseven what a trooper! Thanks for sharing it all with us and being so positive despite it being such hard work!! The tips are really helpful, I have sent them to DH to scare the life out of prepare him. Hope the chaos of your life starts to settle down a bit now, you definitely deserve it!

Can I just ask, you know you are all expressing - are you bottle feeding already or just getting rid of the excess? I am confused as to when you can start bottle feeding.

slowshow hope you are ok, I agree with all the advice here and hope it is nothing.

highheels glad to hear the whispered update Grin keeping everything crossed for you my dear.

I have just started thinking about maternity leave and am thinking of starting it on 1 April... scary, that's only 12 weeks away!!

Not long till the weekend now ladies, woohoo!

pixiestix · 06/01/2011 12:15

What a great post Lucky, loads of excellent advice. I second (third?) the love of the TENS machine, what a godsend.

Congratulations Slow - don't worry too much about the brown blood (easier said than done, I know!). I had brown blood at about 6 weeks gone and freaked out big time but everything was totally fine. As Hermya said, implantation can lead to a bit of bleeding so its probably that. If it gets heavier/ redder then do go to the docs and get it checked out.

HH Glad everything is going ok at the moment. I'm sure Pip is doing just great in there.

Hope you are snuggled up with your LO Oneof8 and being spoilt rotten by your DH.

We are having a pyjama day here in the Pix household. Tegan had her second set of jabs yesterday and although she is being a trooper about the whole thing I don't want to take her out in the cold and wet. So we have the playmat out, a box full of lovely toys her grandparents gave her for Xmas and I have Bleak House on the DVD player and a big mug of hot chocolate. Bliss!

This thread has been amazing. It makes me feel really emotional to think of everything we have gone through since the start of it. [sniff] Only eight babies at the start of it, and now we could practically start our own nursery! Grin
Roll on the next bumper crop of babes and BFPs!

cherrycobbler · 06/01/2011 12:27

wow lucky what an amazing story - and lovely postive postcript. Any birth story that starts "During the Strictly Final..." is an instant classic, I reckon. Loving the top tips too - I am going to go through all the old Frolicker threads at some point to pick up all the tips that have been very generously passed on...

I am also obsessively counting down the days till thinking about ML crazy, I think I am going to aim for being off from 18 April but use holiday to take advantage of all the bank hols and only start ML on 2 May. Hmmm. Not sure if thats too late...

Hello pixie, lovely to hear from you! PJ day sounds blissful for both you and wee Tegs!

slowshow hope you are feeling better today and the spotting has gone xx

luckyseven · 06/01/2011 12:55

crazy - i express a bottle for emergencies and so dh has some for his night shift. she wouldn't feed once and i just never want to be without a back up but i have read you shouldn't express for three weeks but my attitude is do what feels right and the midwife knew i was expressing a bit. it also gets rid of the morning excess when she is sleeping and i am leaking - gross. it is perfectly normal to walk round the house with the baps out! This is my life now!

Girls infacol is a saviour for a colicky baby and worth having in the house just in case.Oh and men are crap at being tired, my friend told me this and it was a lot easier to cope with dh going to the shop for nappies and lunch and only coming back with lunch. Women excel on 2 hrs sleep!

pix i dream of a day like yours! mad men and hot choc is the goal!

cherry i used hols to finish three weeks before and it was just right, less would have been tough.

Off to get beth registered!

crazybutterflylady · 06/01/2011 14:55

cherry I am going to take my full year's holiday allowance at the start which will mean I start my maternity leave on 11th May (I think). Brave I know but even if I decide to go back after 6 months (which I highly doubt) I won't go back full time so I won't need any holiday. I hope! I think we will be in more need of the extra money at the start when I am still learning to budget. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll be a dab hand at it Wink

pixie jealous of your day! Give Tegan a little squeeze from us all for being so brave Grin

lucky I snorted at your post! haha!! I do tend to have my baps our a lot already since they are so fecking itchy at the moment and bras do not help this!! I might need a bib for myself if I carry on once the baps are leaking. I have already resigned myself to losing all dignity during pregnancy so I don't feel so bad...! Last night the midwife gave me a funny look when I explained that I had 2 pairs of pants on with my tights to stop them falling down but I didn't care. I must be making progress!!

x

MrsWajs · 07/01/2011 01:53

Lucky loved your birth story and am making a mental note to buy a puncture repair kit tomorrow!!

2 things occurred to me today - I do not want my lady garden ripped to shreds during labour and I don't want a section either - too impractical afterwards!! Not entirely sure babyWajs is going to oblige me but I can hope!!

Had very strange dream today too, that I gave birth to a girl but she looked like a scabby fish!?!?!?! Really not sure what that's all about - I kept looking at her and crying, a) because she was so ugly and b) because I was thinking - but she can't be ugly, she's my baby!!!! I wish I could have dreamless sleeps, it really was unnerving!

My official mat leave date is now going to be 21 March, but will be going off on the 13th as have odd days holidays to use up etc - I cannot wait!! Feel a bit fraudulent going off so early when I hear of people staying til 38-39 weeks but I just know I won't be able to manage that long. So basically once I finish work this morning, I'm on holiday for a week and when I come back to work I have 8 weeks to do!! How great is that! Grin Grin

slowshow · 07/01/2011 09:55

Hello ladies, thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate it. I'm still torturing myself, telling myself all my symptoms are psychosomatic, and I only feel nauseous because I'm so anxious.

DH is being great, telling me nothing good ever came from worrying so much. Wish I could take his advice!

Have a GP appointment tomorrow.

cherrycobbler · 07/01/2011 09:59

mrsw - both things have also recently occurred to me! As DH so delicately put it, bit late now! Sorry about the freaky dream, have been having lots of those, darn these hormones. I think it would be v hard for you to go till 38/39 weeks particularly if your job is v demanding (as it sounds like it is). 8 weeks!!! flo you must be off on ML soonish?

Hope you don't mind me having a quick rant. I was woken up five times last night with horrible pain in my arms and wrists. Have been sore for a little while but thought it was end of the cold and general aches but last night was horrid. Seems to match up with carpal tunnel syndrome - eurgh. Its bearable during the day at the moment but am freaking myself out with tales of pp whose pain just gets worse and worse during pregnancy (am only 22 weeks!)/ lasts for months and months after birth! Have a doc appt on Weds morning to see what they think and going to troop off to Boots this lunchtime to see if they do wrist splints, which apparently help with the night time ouch. I know I haven't had things as bad as some poor pg ladies but it does feel that apart from about four weeks of feeling great, its been one thing after another! Surely our bodies should be designed to have babies?! And I feel bad about ranting about pg related stuff to anyone in RL as I don't want to be moany and boring and appear ungrateful. So sorry

Rant over! Hope you all have good days - at least its Friday, yeah!

ps. Hermya your description of your little man as a plotting Mr Burns made me giggle :)

cherrycobbler · 07/01/2011 10:02

that should be "so, sorry you are all bearing the brunt of my complaining!"...

cross posts slow, your DH sounds very sensible, hope GP appt helps put your mind at rest a bit. And don't read my moany post, you are going to have a wonderful, healthy and blooming nine months to come!

luckyseven · 07/01/2011 10:04

cherry - sounds like carpal tunnel - ask to be referred to physio by your gp for splints. try to sleep with arms above head if poss - v shaped pillow helps. mine is not entirely away nearly 3 weeks after but you will get used to it. splints should help.

Bellaby · 07/01/2011 10:27

Hello All

Just enjoying our last day of holiday before we return to the cold! Feeling very relaxed and rested.

Lucky thanks so much for sharing your story and for the tips.

Slowshow hope you are ok today. Echo what everyone says here about HH having some great advice.

I'm starting to try and make notes and lists of everything I need to do/ buy. There is so much to think about!

Crazy & Cherry I've also been working out dates for ML to try and maximise the time with Easter and the extra bank holiday. Think I will try and start my ML on 9th May but take 2 holiday before that so that I should be off from Easter onwards. I imagine the time is going to fly and it's scary to think it is just around the corner.

MrsW I've been having so many dream recently. Isn't dreaming your child is like an animal very common?

Hope everyone else is well. It's going to be a busy new thread on here and really looking forward to it. Hopefully we'll get plenty of new grads too

Grin xxx
cherrycobbler · 07/01/2011 12:34

thanks for the tips lucky, will do re asking for a referral and trying the sleep/head thing. Did yours come and go? Did it get much worse as the weeks went on?

bella so jealous of your hols!

aly323 · 07/01/2011 21:41

Darn. I thought I posted a recent long post, but it seems I must have just previewed an deleted instead. That just makes me crazy!!

Lucky great birth story! I love reading these an they really do help others to prepare for the many, many things that may happen. Especially when we know that all turned out so well in the end!

Slowshow I hope you are able to get some peace of mind soon. This pregnancy, I've been through insulin dependent diabetes, anemia, sciatica, insomnia, possible preterm labor and more. However, all of that has been more bearable than the uncertainty and fear I felt throughout the first trimester. I had spotting, too. In fact, almost everyone I know has had spotting. Hopefully you'll get a nice scan soon!

Cherry I'm sorry to hear about your wrists. Hopefully you'll be able to get some help and relief. Isn't it insane the random things that pregnancy can cause?

MrsW congrats on the date. I bet the next 8 weeks fly by! Makes it all seem very real doesn't it?!

Bellaby have fun getting sorted. I constantly felt like things were missing and kept letting myself get overwhelmed. However, when I finally started looking through and arranging what I actually had, I've found that we're surprisingly in good shape. Much of my stuff is second hand (some from sales some from friends) and some I bought myself. I'm really trying to make a point to wait on some of the things that won't be needed for a few months.

I had my growth scan a few days ago and the news was good. Baby probably isn't huge like they kept telling me before. He's actually measuring just about perfect Smile. This means I can wait a little longer before induction and have a much better shot at avoiding a c-section. Yay!! Maybe all those dietary sacrifices were worth it...

Also, my hip is about a million times better than it was earlier. I still limp and have some pain, but I can actually get around and the pain isn't too bad. I've had DH massage my hip a few times and I think it may have made a difference. Life is good again! Especially since I was able to convince him to schedule house cleaners for next week while I was in pain. Now baby better just stay in till they get the house cleaned next Friday!!

Big wave to everyone I missed.

highheelsandequations · 08/01/2011 13:31

Just nipping in quickly to say I am no longer panicking. DP let me order a doppler off amazon and this morning we managed to hear pip's heartbeat Grin I couldn't believe we managed it as I was sure it was going to be too early but it was definitely there, heard mine as well so could hear the difference between the two. I am ony allowed to keep the doppler as long as I promise not to become obsessive but even DP looked like he had tears in his eyes when we found it the first time :)

Hope everyone's weekends are off to a good start. Back to catch up properly later.

PS: Meant to mention earlier, LO is currently christened 'pip' as the first time we saw it on the scan it was about the size of a grapefruit pip!

Lucky I'm glad I'm not the only one who walks around flashing everyone (DH thinks it's great), boobs are awesome. Baby cries, put him on the boob, baby tired, put him on the boob, baby has jabs, put him on the boob. I love it!!

HH Great stuff!!! I'm so pleased for you. FWIW, dopplers are great they can really help give you reassurance.

Cherry Sorry about the wrists. Did they give you some splints to sleep in at all? Also if you are really suffering, get a bowl of hot water and a bowl of some cold water. Immerse your wrists in the hot water for a few minutes and then in the cold and continue alternating for a bit. This will increase blood flow to the area and will give you some relief. I had carpel tunnel syndrome a few years back and this really helped me. If you're at work run the hot and cold taps in the toilet and do the same. It will help.

Aly Oh not long to go now is it!! I expect you can't wait, you've done so well with your pregnancy and you've been through so much with it all haven't you. So so pleased for you.

MrsW Sod the guilt trip, they don't give you a medal for staying on late. Seriously, get yourself off early, put your feet up and eat cake and watch as much crap TV as you want to. Basically do whatever the hell you want, once the baby arrives you will long for those days where you'll be able to leave the house at a moments notice with only a small bag and some car keys.

DS evil plans continue to gain fruition, he seems to have set up an underground sleep fighting club. I pop him in bed every night all mitted up, but the last few nights I've woken up to find his mitts cast aside and his face scratched up. This morning was particulary bad, he'd managed to actually chuck his mitts onto my bed (and he had scratches underneath his eye and across his cheek). I asked him who won this morning, he just grinned at me. Guess we all know the answer to that one ConfusedGrin. I'm so proud.
