Kurly Hope the scan went well - if it is like most NHS appointments, you'll still be sitting there cross legged praying they call you soon - hate the "bursting bladder" feeling!!!

Super good luck for tomorrow!

OH friend's GF is booked for C section tomorrow - earlier than due date due to being twins and a little on the "big" side - however this "big" is in comparison to her as she's built like a whippet!

This is the girl that said about only being with OH friend for the house (before falling preg). Made me a little Angry at the time as inappropriate (the comments as said other things similar), but she has changed a lot in pregnancy (matured).

I feel a bit bad for her as she really wanted to go natural- so can imagine this upset her. Also, some of OH's friends don't see the change so are still really unsupportive of her - bad mouthing her to all that will listen etc.

I feel a bit 2 faced being friendly with her now as I used to excuse myself from conversations with her ASAP not that long ago as thought badly of her, but didn't say anything to anyone as not my place to have an opinion of her (well except one outburst on here on the conception thread and a few to OH that he was sworn to secrecy over!)

Her mates her age seem to have pissed off which is why OH's friend is trying to get his mates round (with their GF's) over the next few weeks (when she is ready) so she has company etc and doesn't feel to alone or overwhelmed by his family (she only has her mum who she doesn't get on with).

I can guess she will feel a bit too much attention with her partners family (1st grand sons) so would like to try and build a relationship with her, as I think she was just "young" back then, (and I was old in my attitude looking down on her as thought she behaved like a kid).

Without the hyena of a mate that was glued to her side previously she seems really vulnerable.

Sorry ? wittered on about nothing and it?s not even related to being preg (well, other than the fact she is!)

Hope everyone is ok!

Hello!!!

All good, scan was amazing Grin, the munchkin was bouncing all over the place and sucking its thumb and waving. It took the midwife nearly half an hour to get it into position (which involved me coughing, bouncing up and down and having a wander around) so she could get accurate measurements, but she did at least let me out after about 10 minutes to "make myself more comfortable", so that NHS wait wasn't too bad, OneOf8, thank goodness!

So much happier now. And rather further along than we thought - apparently I am 13+5! That gives me a due date of 16th April which is a little concerning as my parents will be in the BVI until the 18th - ARGH. Oh well, most first time babies are overdue, right!?! I don't really belong on the May thread anymore (although I haven't posted on it for ages anyway!)...

Thank you all for being so lovely today, and sorry for the panic. I proffer the most splendid ginger nuts with cream in the middle Biscuit along with luxury hot chocolate to say thank you. I also feel better about my expanding tummy knowing that I am actually in my second trimester! Eeeeek!

kurly fab news about your scan, and it's great that you get to jump into the 2nd trimester.

crazy I was meant to hire a cleaner during my first trimester but was too lazy exhausted to even manage that. Blush

oneof8 that's so lovely of you to want to be friends with someone, even if she's behaved badly in the past. I hope she'll appreciate the support you're trying to give her

worrisome hope your LO decides to make an appearance soon

Had my 34 week obs appointment yesterday (although I've somehow managed to end up a week behind as am actually 35 weeks Hmm). LO is pretty much engaged - she reckons he'll be fully engaged by next week. She said there's usually an average of 3 weeks between the head engaging and going into labour, so in her opinion it's pretty likely I'll go into labour before my due date. I'm pretty sure now she's said that that I'll go well overdue Grin

To be honest, I'd love it if LO comes early as I'm not really coping with our current weather conditions. Yesterday it was 29 degrees and the heat made me swell up like a balloon - my ankles ended up wider than my calves. I spent the evening with my feet in a bucket of iced water trying to bring some of the swelling down Smile

I've tinkered with the list a bit, as people were no longer in order of EDD and it was annoying me BlushGrin

Glad the scan went well kurly even if I am a teeny bit Envy that you're now almost 2 weeks ahead of me!!

Looking for a little bit of advice from anyone who's in the know - had my 2nd risk assessment review this morning with my manager (after a 10.5 hour nightshift I might add!!) and she basically said, in a very dramatic way, that she doesn't think I'll cope with ward work when I come back onto day shift because our patients are pretty heavy going just now. Now if I genuinely thought she was concerned for my welfare I would find this quite touching, but since we don't really get on all that well and I am often challenging her on things, I can't help but think this is to get me out of her hair!! I have had 2 episodes of sickness in the past 4 weeks (due to diarrhoea, which prohibits me from going to work until 48hrs clear) and I think that this may have something to do with it also. I agreed with her that yes the ward was heavy at the moment and that yes I was tiring at the end of my shifts but I also stated that I didn't think I was any more tired than anyone else would be and also that being pregnant does not stop me from doing my job any better or worse than anyone else! She has also heard that I have back pain/sciatica at the moment as well which I admitted but I haven't been off sick as a result of it and I don't think it is due to work that I have it.
I'm just really worried that she is going to try and move me out of the ward to another department and that is really the last thing I want. I like the people I work with (barr her!) and I think moving somewhere new would be too much of an emotional upheaval (sp). So anyone got any advice on how I should/could deal with this?? She is sending the assessment to her manager and apparently we should be meeting for a "discussion" soon, so I plan to contact my union prior to that to make sure I have a representative with me.
Really can't be arsed with all this stress to be honest! DP isn't very happy at the propsect and has told me to go off sick! Don't think that would really help my case though!

OneOf8 · 15/10/2010 09:38

Hi

MrsW sorry to look like I may be siding with the employer (I am not!), however work can move you if it is deemed a risk to you or the pregnancy the work you do.

Had typed a message - but was long, so have inboxed you.

Hope you don't feel I am sticking my nose in!

Bunny how funny - I was only looking at the list mid week thinking would be better for EDD rather than BFP date for the order! Great minds and all that!

superpenguin · 15/10/2010 10:18

great news kurly!

crazybutterflylady · 15/10/2010 11:43

kurly that's fab news, and great that you're even further forward than you thought, woohooo!

Hi everyone else, am dashing off now and MIL is arriving in town for the weekend and we are off shopping for the afternoon. Hope you all have wonderful weekends xx

pixiestix · 15/10/2010 15:16

Kurly - thats fantastic news! Smile Smile It must be such a relief to fast forward into the second trimester.

Chance has been quiet recently, hasn't she? Wink

Addie - hope that the induction went well and that you have your LO in your arms by now (I didn't at this stage of my induction and I wouldn't wish the same experience on anyone!)

Worrisome - how are you holding up? The last few days just draaaaag so much! I think its natures way of making you desperate to go into labour, regardless of how much it will hurt - you get to the stage where you will do anything to get the baby out! How long are they going to let you go before they induce you? (Sorry if you've said that already - I have a touch of baby brain at the moment)

We haven't had a new BFP for ages on this thread Sad Hopefully we will get some more Frolickers over soon.

WorrisomeHeart · 15/10/2010 17:24

Hi all

Still no baby... he's still teasing us though - woke up with pains at 3am this morning and thought 'ooh this is promising'.. they promptly stopped! pixie I am having a sweep on Sunday and they won't let me go any later than the 24th without inducing me. Crossed fingers that we get there on our own! At least when I go for the sweep I can find out how favourable things are looking. I went and bought a couple of warm winter outerwear type thingys today as I suddenly realised that although I've got a pramsuit for 0-3 months, I had nothing warm that was smaller and it's supposed to be getting cold here next week!

bunny fab news re the LO's engagement, but Shock at the idea of coping in that heat - is your house airconditioned? I found packs of frozen peas helped with the feet too... Grin

MrsW sorry to hear your having such troubles with work, hope it gets sorted soon - you don't need the stress!

Any news chance, addie or hermya? Hope you're all ok..

superpenguin · 15/10/2010 20:32

Hello!
Well I had my scan! and we are naming this baby 'Awkward'!
Sonographer kept saying it was really difficult to check a lot of the things she wanted to check as the baby was in a funny position. Then she told me to go and empty my bladder as it was too full! (cue me traipsing down the corridor to the loo with my trousers round my hips, my belly covered in goo, my top pulled up and clinging blue paper towels to my middle!).
Anyway, good news is we could see all 4 chambers of the heart, also the spine, a little hand waving and various other things! However she thinks there may be something wrong with one of baby's feet, nothing serious, just that it looked turned in slightly, which if so they can correct after birth. Anyway she couldn't tell if it was just positional - so I have to go back next week for another scan so they can have another look.
Baby also moved a lot so it was really hard to get pictures, we only got one pic and it's really unclear.
...Oh and she thinks we are having a girl! :)

haloflo · 16/10/2010 08:33

kurly That is such fab news - I hope you are still on a high from it. Welcome to the second trimester! I hope you've been shopping this weekend, your 14 week bump needs room to grow!! No wonder you were wearing your OH's trackies! Sorry to hear that your parents will away on your due date but as you say babies never arrive when they are supposed to. Do you have a good relationship with your IL's? Would having them around help? I get on with mine but I guess there's nothing like your having your own mum around!

bunny Hopefully you won't have much longer - very exciting! Hope you are managing to stay cool.

mrsw I don't know what you can do but I hope you get good advice from your union and you get a chance to really talk through your worries, without feeling like you are being pushed out, with this higher manager. It must be really unsettling for you. What is wrong with your back? Have you been to your GP? I had sciatic pain for a few weeks but somehow magically got rid. Let me know if you want me to tell you what I did.

superp Congrats on the little girl! How sure were they? Hopefully they can confirm next week. It must have been a relief to see all the organs and I hope it was just a positional thing about your baby's foot. When's the next scan? I hope your awkward LO behaves better then!

As for me I feel that in the last couple of days my bump has really grown! (am 17+6 today) Did anyone else find this? It's like I woke up on Friday and it just looked bigger! Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

cherrycobbler · 16/10/2010 14:22

Hi all! mrsw and kurly great news on the scan! super glad they managed to get all the measurements in the end! Hopefully you'll get some more info on LO's foot positioning soon.
I am having a rough time - had pushed myself too hard at work and pretty much collapsed with the most awful abdo pain on thurs night. Spent the night in hospital where they didn't do a scan (no bleeding so they think it's unlikely to be a mc) but loads of other tests. They couldn't work out what it was but gave me strong painkillers, some anti -vom drugs (had been chucking up for England) and strict instructions to rest. I feel a bit like I've been hit by a bus so have basically been in bed for two days. Pain has settled down, as has nausea, phew. halo looks like I shd just have taken your advice earlier this week to take some time off and would have avoided all the drama! Am a bit worried about the baby but I guess only time will tell.
Typing this is the most I've done for ages so best go have another nap! Hope you all have fab Saturdays xx

haloflo · 16/10/2010 16:30

cherry your poor thing, you couldn't have known this would happen. I'm sure your baby is ok - your body priorises the LO's needs over yours. (I think someone said to me they are like a parasite for want of a better word) I hope you feel better soon and your DH is looking after you. Make sure you rest until you are completly better.

kurlyvoice · 16/10/2010 18:48

Oh, cherry, poor you - what an awful experience and, as halo said, you couldn't have anticipated it! I'm glad that you are resting now, and feeling a bit better, although it's a bit of a dramatic wake-up call to have to suffer. Is your DH looking after you?

I've just got back from a mammoth shopping trip (well, considering the lack of shopping I've done over the past six weeks) and now have some clothes that fit over my jellybelly - and will expand with me too. And my lovely DH put up with me trying on 16 items and only buying 6 - and then carried the shopping! Good ol' H&M (for tops and tunics) and RedHerring in Debenhams (for trousers). Have decided that I'm definitely not an over-the-bump-trouser kind of girl!

halo, I get on really well with my ILs but they live 4 hours away! We'll have to see...

Thanks to everyone for their lovely post-scan comments - I've put the Munchkin's first photograph on my profile. It's waving! Grin

Congrats to super on the scan - and the potential little girl. Don't worry about the foot, even if it isn't positional - they can do amazing things with feet these days!

Don't be too cross with me, MrsW, though I can quite understand that I must be REALLY ANNOYING. I hadn't realised that your 10th April date on the stats was the original one so I'm very sorry for overtaking you. Knowing my luck, you'll be early and I'll go a fortnight overdue and have to be induced and you'll get your LO first! I don't have any decent advice on your awful job dilemma but if there's no health reason why you have to change then surely they can't discriminate against you?

Sorry that there's still no baby, worrisome, but not long to wait. Let's hope there's some positive news from the sweep. And things sound positive for you too, bunny, but gosh, that kind of heat does not sound like fun. Thanks for tinkering with the list - I didn't feel like I had enough authority to change the way that things worked!

Right, I shall leave you all now for some more Strictly-viewing and some lasagne - help yourselves!

bunnygirl80 · 16/10/2010 23:03

super congrats on the girl. Hope they manage to see the foot more clearly next week

halo I found my bump seemed to have growth spurts instead of expanding at a uniform rate. I'd get a few days of feeling really uncomfortable as all my tummy muscles were being stretched, then they would give up the fight and it would pop out a bit. I think it first happened around 18 weeks so a similar time to where you are now.

MrsW I don't know what you can do about work -I''m sure your union rep can advise on that. Sorry you feel you're being pushed out, and I hope you manage to resolve things so you're happy. If you're getting back pain already then you do need to be really careful at work when it comes to manual handling etc. otherwise you could aggravate it. I know a couple of people who managed to injure their backs during pg and still have problems several months after giving birth - not wanting to scare you, just don't want you to overdo it in an attempt to prove your manager wrong Smile

cherry hope you're starting to feel better now. I'm sure your baby's fine - they get priority over you, so if anyone's going to suffer if you overdo it it's going to be you and not the baby

kurly yay for finally getting to buy comfy clothes Grin I think over the bump trousers don't really work until you have a decent sized bump. I did insist on wearing them all over winter though, even though they didn't fit me properly, cos they act like an extra layer of clothes and kept me toasty warm. Now they fit me properly it's too hot for them Hmm I don't think you need authority to tinker with the list - I just do it and then tell you all what I've done WinkGrin

I seem to have found a cure for my swollen legs and ankles. We went to a bbq yesterday, and I wore some knee high boots that were a little bit on the tight side. When I took them off afterwards they had squeezed all the fluid out of my lower legs - there were some quite terrifying looking dents in some places. The dents have gone this morning, but my legs look loads skinnier than they've done in ages. I'm sure this isn't really a recommended way of dealing with fluid retention in pg, but I don't care, it's just nice to remember what my ankles actually look like Grin

Hi all

Well, went in for my sweep today but it wasn't great news - cervix is still closed shut and long. She manipulated it forward (yowee!) and did the deed but isn't overly optimistic. Am booked in for another sweep on Wed and then the induction on Sunday. Am feeling very Sad about it all, came home and had a bit of a cry on DH. However, I guess at least this time next week I'll be on the ward with the induction started (that's if nothing happens this week!). Am mostly feeling gloomy about not being able to do the whole waterbirth thing, but worse things can happen, right?

penguin many many congrats on the girl! And kinda cool that you get a second scan Wink WRT her feet - if there is a problem, would it be an op after birth or manipulation of some kind?

halo Definitely know what you mean about all of a sudden looking bigger - I felt like the bump almost appeared out of nowhere!

cherry you poor thing, how are you feeling now? When do you have your next mw check?

kurly good on you for the shopping - it makes such a difference being in comfy trousers! Am living in my trackie bottoms at the moment and only putting on 'proper' trousers if I have to go out! Mind you, I schlepped to the supermarket in them last night Blush I just have no standards any more!

bunny nice work on the swelling! I wonder if you could get nice boots on the NHS to help... Grin

Anyway, hope you all have a lovely Sunday!

Cherry You poor thing, how are you feeling now?

Kurly Great news about the scan!! Comfy trousers are the way forward, I'm currently living in my maternity jeans and trackies at the moment. They're the only things I can button up.

Penguin Awwww congrats on your little girl, I bet you can't wait to start shopping for her.

Halo Yeah suddenly one day you wake up and there is a bump.

Bunny Ooooo nice boots!! I expect they work the same way as the NHS compression tights they used to get you to wear years ago back in the old days when out parents were pregnant with us.

Worrisome If the pessery gets you going properly can you still do a waterbirth? It might be worth talking to your MW about what options you have dependant upon what level of intervention you need.

As for me, I'm 39 weeks today and feeling quite whale like. LO has turned into a hyperactive owl in the last few days, he squirms around in there like a club rep on speed on the last weekend of the season. It's like he can't get comfy.

I got took into hospital last week as well, I had been suffering from rib pain and a headache on Thursday night and I had a bit of a nosebleed with it as well. I rang the MW to check if it was normal, cue MW saying 'come in to get checked out'. I went in, they couldn't quite decide what was going on so got transfered to the big hospital in the next town over. They did the same checks and they couldn't decide what was going on either. Everything checked out ok, they just couldn't put their fingers on what was causing the rib pain. It didn't help that they kept me strapped to monitors on my back for the majority of the night, so I couldn't get comfy even if I tried. So they sent me home with instructions to take paracetamol.

I did ask them whilst I was there if they could do me a sweep because of the amount of pain I was in. They said no, I wasn't very happy about that tbh. She didn't even sit down properly and discuss it with me. She just said no.

Apart from that, all is well for the most part. I just want this baby out.

hermya sorry to hear you're having such a hard time of it - and the nose bleed/rib pain sounds scary too. Hope you are able to get some comfort and your baby is better behaved than mine and comes early!

WRT the waterbirth, unfortunately if I am induced than I'm considered under consultant care and the pools are only available in the m/w led birthing unit, but thinking about it, the rooms are only down the hall so might be worth asking! Am also going to ask if I can come home after the pessary is in instead of staying on the ward - we live about 10 mins drive from the hosp and it would make life a little more comfortable to be at home for those 6 hours rather than in the ward. Argh, so much to think/stress about!

Hello all!

cherry sorry to hear about your hospital trip, hope you are ok now, and taking it easy!

worrisome and hermya sorry to hear you're still waiting but not long to go now!
I wonder how chance and addie are doing.

Well I did a bit of googling on my baby's potential foot issue after checking what they had written in the notes, and it is called talipes (also known as club foot), there is a good page on the NHS website about it here:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/talipes/Pages/Introduction.aspx
Anyway, I phoned this morning to make my repeat scan appointment and they can't fit me in this week so I am going back next Tuesday, the 26th. Hopefully we will find out then whether baby has this or not. I'm not too worried though, of all the things that can be wrong with a person it doesn't look too bad.

Hi everyone, can I ask a quick question? (I'm at work so just trying to do this in a free before running off to the next job). Has anyone had quite bad chest/middle back pain that seems to be linked and lasts for - well, so far, since 5am this morning? I don't want to be a neurotic first timer who complains about everything but this is quite sore and I'm struggling to teach effectively with it... Is it just a normal pregnancy ache that I'm going to have to put up with?

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 18/10/2010 12:54

Hi kurly sounds a bit like heatburn to me. That's how my heartburn tends to manifest itself. Have you tried a few slugs of gaviscon?

Your shopping trip sounds most productive. Although be prepared to have to do it again. I have ended up with two maternity wardrobes one for 2nd trimester and another for 3rd. I was in underbump trousers until about 33 weeks, when I bought myself a huge pair of over bump jeans. Dead comfy and keeps the enormous bump warm in the colder weather!

bunny good to hear that you are getting reaquainted with your ankles. Nice boots sound a much better course of treatment than the NHS support stockings!

Hermya sounds like you're having a grim time at the moment. I can totally empathise with the "I just want this baby out" feeling (and I've got just under 3 weeks left - could be more as I fear I'll go over). Have you had any indication that your LO might be about to make a move?

worrisome so sorry to hear that you are looking at induction. It can bugger up your birth plan. Would be great if you were still able to labour in water though. Even if you can't use the pool, you should still be able to keep fairly active. Hopefully your LO will make a move this week and the induction won't be neccessary.

superpenguin lovely to hear that you've got a girl. You attitude is really positive and I think you are right, talipes is far from the worst thing that can happen and can be fixed once baby is born.
