bunnygirl80 · 08/10/2010 21:52

worrisome sounds like things might be starting - all those BHs will be ripening your cervix so when you hit "proper" labour it will hopefully be quick. Try and get some rest tonight.....sounds like you'll be needing your energy soon Smile

hermya thanks for the tip on getting miniature versions of everything. I remembered I've actually got some samples of mascarer, concealer and blusher in the back of a cupboard from one of those CLinique bonus time things, so think I'll pack those.

cherry congrats on the scan.

I'm off to parenting class today. Am looking forwards to seeing DH wrestle with putting a nappy onto a teddy bear Grin

mumnerves · 08/10/2010 22:14

worrisome Hope you manage to get some kind of sleep before labour kicks in for real and good luck!! :)

halo how exciting, you're at my fav stage now, the flutters were so lovely to feel as it really did feel like I had a little person inside me...fast forward 3 months and I feel like threatening an orphanage onto LO everytime my bladder gets kicked! So enjoy it whilst you can :)

cherry congrats on the scan, I felt better after 14 weeks. One week I was throwing up after a half hours drive and every other night then the following week (14) I didn't throw up anymore and then the week after (15) I started to enjoy my food again. Not long left till you get over the sickness hopefully x

Hermya my company stopped our final salary pension and now just have a normal pension, sometimes it doesn't feel worthwhile saving does it? Free tumble dryer sounds ace, you'll certainly need one for all those nappies :)

oneof8 I'm about a month ahead of you and can't believe how quickly the last month has gone, soon we'll all be seeing our Lo for the first time, and I feel as scared and OMG as you do!

bunnygirl enjoy your class!

LO is still lying transverse according to MF, I know I've got time still (31 weeks at the moment) but just wondering when it'll turn. I guess I'll just know when I get kicked in the ribs :o

Have a nice weekend everyone!

WorrisomeHeart · 09/10/2010 13:44

Grr.. still here. Slept well and woke up with not a hint of BH's or back pain this morning - tricksy baby playing hide and go seek with us! V disappointed until hubby pointed out that the baby will definitely be here at some point in the next 2 and a bit weeks so really I should enjoy the sleep!

bunny how was the class? Did your DH successfully apply nappy to bear? We had these funny weighted plastic dolls in our class, most amusing watching the men fumble with them!

Gosh, that sounds rude, sorry! Blush

mumnerves plenty of time for LO to shift around - they're probably on their way now!

Hope you're all having a lovely Saturday.

kurlyvoice · 09/10/2010 14:38

Happy Saturday everyone!

Not much to report from kurlytown - but am glad that there are only 5 days left until the munchkin's first scan. crazy, I think I'll be about 11 weeks by then (but might be a bit more) and all I can think about is seeing its little hands wave at me, and watching the little heartbeat. I seem to be expanding at an exponential rate but am refusing to buy anything maternity-related until after the scan!

Oh, and sleep is a luxury that I don't seem to be allowed after about 3am - I wake up, feel sick, and can't get back to sleep, so MrsW and crazy you're not alone. Good prep for next May!

lucky, so sweet about your DP carrying the car seat around the living room, and great to hear from you. Just talking about baby names with my DH last night made me well up!

I hope you've managed to sort out the nappy issue, Hermya - it's so hard to deal with friends and money, isn't it? And even harder when hormones and circumstances have already put you on edge! I'm worried about this pension malarkey too, as I've always felt good about my teacher pension and now... who knows?

WhiteRoses and pixie, your baby-asleep-on-chest images are so perfect! Thank yoU for reminding me where this will all lead to.

How's it going, chance? I think the new gadget idea is a good one for those last few weeks - are you still enjoying your iPhone?

I like your tummy-tone story, bunny. DH keeps laughing at me whenever I try something on and can't do it up, but it's meant to be in a supportive way (apparently)!

OneOf8, I wish I were starting my maternity leave in six weeks (although I only have one job, thank goodness!). How very sensible of you to gradually cut down. And you're not mentally still a teenager - we just live in the 21st century and expressions change over time! I can't quite see how I will manage the stress of teaching up to Easter (which is all about coursework submissions) and being 36 weeks pg, but lots of people do it... And for you, mumnerves, it's now only a fortnight to go!

Your flutters sound amazing, halo - I can't wait until I'm able to feel the LO somersaulting around inside. And thank you for remembering about my scan - I am both excited and terrified.

Cherry, I wish we had gone for an early scan but because I kept being promised an early one it just got too late! So pleased that everything is well with the baby - hope it helps to make the MS feel vaguely worthwhile, although I'm sorry that you're feeling rubbish.

Hi, penguin. 19 weeks and hearing the heartbeat through speakers - WOW! Keep popping in and letting us know how it's going.

And finally, Worrisome, what a naughty LO you have there! Grin But very glad that you have slept well and hope that you can enjoy the weekend without wishing pain upon yourself...

Right, I think I'm all caught up and am now going to eat the second half of my cookie and watch DH plant my daffodils.

Hobnob76 · 09/10/2010 14:40

Hi all, a quick update for you, typing one handed with our baby girl asleep on me. Matilda arrived weighing 6lbs 6ozs at 3.30pm on 21/9 by ELCS. The c-section wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but over 2 wks on I have an infection thats making me feel crappy and I'm on lots of antibiotics. Our girlie is lovely but suffering from colic, bless her but I wouldn't be without her.

kurlyvoice · 09/10/2010 14:48

Oooo, Hobnob, how exciting to hear from you! Sorry that you're suffering with an infection and that little Matilda (beautiful name, btw) has colic, but very glad that you still sound so happy. I hope you're managing to enjoy being a Mummy - congratulations!

WorrisomeHeart · 09/10/2010 15:35

hobnob brilliant brilliant news, well done you! Not good re the infection, hope you start feeling better soon!

Now, who will go next?! chance and addie - I'll race you!! (And Hermya no sneaking up in the queue... Grin)

kurly exciting about your scan being so soon!

Well done!

All well with me just keeping going til scan on Tuesday and then I'll be able to tell everyone finally!! Although quite a few people know now anyway!! Will try and put scan pic on for you crazy :)

SpookyKalooki · 09/10/2010 18:41

Just popping in to say hi, hope you are all ok! I wont be joining you for a while, but I wanted to say, if any of your are in the Herts/Beds/Bucks area and up for a Halloween party on Saturday the 30th then you are invited to spend it with me and the new Mr Kaloki.

Miss you all loads!

addie81 · 09/10/2010 22:59

It's very weird seeing myself at the front of the queue on the stats list like that! Now two days overdue with nothing happening so I reckon it will be a while yet before I move over to arrivals! Worriesome will beat me I reckon!

Congratulations hobnob and mr hobnob!

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 09/10/2010 23:16

Evening all,

Just creeping back onto the thread after a mamouth catching up session and want to say a huge congratulations to Ozziegirly, NovemberAli, WhiteRoses, Pixiestix, and Hobnob on the safe arrival of your LOs whilst I've been skulking off.

Fudgecat, I'm so sorry to learn that your time with little Elliot was so brief. I'm sure he knows he was precious and beautiful and loved. xx

WhiteRoses, I was a bit Shock at the account of your birth experience - you really have been through the wringer with this pregnancy and topped it off with a humdinger of a birth. However, I'm sure that your little boy more than makes up for it. Wink

I have 4 weeks left to go and have now started mat leave, so will hopefully have more time and energy to spend on Mumsnet get things done in preparation for our imminent arrival.

bunnygirl80 · 10/10/2010 01:09

Congrats hobnob. Hope your infection clears up soon, and you're enjoying life with Matilda Smile

kurly and mrsW good luck with the scans neaxt week.

yorkshire welcome back......I was beginning to wonder where you'd disappeared to Grin

chance hasn't posted for a few days - I wonder if she's busy cuddling her baby yet

Parenting class was great fun yesterday. No nappy practice for DH though as there wasn't time but we'll get plenty of practice in hospital anyway. We were given dolls to look after for the whole day - had to pretend to breastfeed them for 40mins every 3 hours, then burp them, wrap them up, settle them to sleep and carry them everywhere with us. Got quite a few Confused looks from old ladies when we went for a walk at lunchtime. Several of the class were asked how many days old their baby was, and one lady asked if she could cuddle mine Hmm. They weren't even that realistic looking, unless babies really do arrive with their hair painted on Grin

superpenguin · 10/10/2010 09:32

hey congratulations hobnob !

Ozziegirly · 10/10/2010 11:41

Just wanted to come on and firstly say congratulations to all the new babies, really wonderful news.

I'm probably going to give Mumsnet a break for a while - I have loved the support that I have had from this thread, but when I come on I can never resist looking at some of the other sections, like parenting and the feeding topic, and I tend to leave feeling really crappy about myself in light of my inability to breastfeed/attachment parent etc and my DH has pretty much suggested that I give this a miss for my own sanity!

I've never had it from any of you guys but even on the front page there is some study about how formula babies get more infections, more likely to get diabetes etc, which is all great info if you have a choice over formula feeding but honestly makes me feel even worse about not being able to.

So, I will pop on now and then and wanted to say goodbye and good luck to all the frolickers.

Tom is wonderful, a happy, cheerful, growing baby who is the light of mine and DH's life, and now smiles big beautiful beaming smiles that melt my heart.

Best of luck to everyone and congratulations and again, thank you so much for your support over the last couple of years xxxx

mumnerves · 10/10/2010 15:46

worrisome any more news?

Hobnob !!! Congratulations!!!! I was just thinking about you this past week and wondering if you'd had LO. Hope your care was good and your infection gets sorted soon x

MrsWajs you must both be so excited about the scan, it's so nice just to see LO on the screen to make it final :)

Kaloki so sorry to hear you're leaving us, good luck for the future and hope the wedding went well

addie ooooh am getting excited for you! Make sure you get plenty of rest for the birth and keep us updated!

Welcome back yorkshire do put your feet up and enjoy your ML :)

Bunnygirl lol at the woman wanting to cuddle your doll! Glad you enjoyed it.

Ozziegirl I feel really sad that you've been made to feel like that. Just want to say I think all that is to encourage women to try but if you've tried then your stress would probably affect Tom more. Big hugs coming your way and hope you'll still keep us updated occasionally on how you and Tom are doing x

Not much to report, we're having some sun here which is so unusual so just enjoying the weekend. Have a nice sunday everyone!!

luckyseven · 10/10/2010 16:20

Hello! I spent ages yesterday catching up and making notes and today when i type this they make next to no sense! Honestly if dh found this book he would be he would be very puzzled eg beside hermya i have written ?head down and ready to go!? and Mrs W - ?thunder stealers and Tuesday? But here goes my long overdue catch up!

mumsnerves i have just realised we are pretty close in dates, I was 30 weeks on Friday there but have a mammoth 7 more weeks left at work so I am really jealous. I am probably going to finish 3 weeks before but am starting to consider 4 weeks before as I have so much planned for the first weeks off lunches with friends, hair appointments, check ups, making Christmas puddings and writing Christmas cards etc that I am not sure I will have enough time to nest! You were asking me about the heartburn before and I have been getting huge bottles of Peptac off the doc and it has less of an edge than the Gaviscon but is def not handbag friendly the size of the thing so have been relying on the gaviscon sachets when away from home. Got a prescription for Zantac which i have taken sparingly and it is the business! I have been short of breath in a random gasp / involuntary sharp intake of breath kind of way and my colleagues have just had to get used to my dramatics! App it is the baby kicking my diaphragm as its legs are under my right boob ? has this been happening to you too as it is the weirdest thing!

cherry I agree with mumsnerves after 14 weeks i was as high as a kite thanks to having my energy back, week 14 was awful and then overnight I was back to my old self so I hope you get the energy boost really soon.

Bunny i love the sound of your parenting classes really practical and good to get the men involved! I have been thinking lately about how much time I spend thinking and reading about being pg and apart from hoarding nappies and baby wipes I have thought very little about what to do once the baby is here. I had to ask my mum what babies wear the other day other than a sleep suit and have no idea about what goes in a moses basket etc I think i need to buy a book and get dh involved!

hermya ?head down and ready to go!? probably means that I am glad the head is down and everything is progressing well and imo you have been ready to go for weeks as you have been so organised!

mrs w boo hiss to the thunder stealing people second guessing your pregnancy. If it is any consolation once you do tell people for real you will be shocked at how genuinely happy friends, family and colleagues are to hear baby news. Hope all goes well for you on Tuesday, will be checking in to get your report and see the picture!

Part two to follow later ? it is 16:20 and i am still in my pjs and meant to be going out at half past! i have been cleaning and doing yoga after finishing off the rest of some Ben and Jerrys Baked Alaska and watching last nights x factor so was a bit productive! Yikes!

Hermya321 · 10/10/2010 19:07

Luckyseven I can't believe you're thirty weeks now, that has gone by so so fast. I am so so ready to go now. I'm getting bored of watching BBC breakfast Grin.

Mumsnerves Are you enjoying the sun?

Ozzie I'm sorry that you've felt that way with the parenting and feeding boards, at the end of the day as long as your child grows up healthy and happy who the hell cares which way he gets there. I hope you enjoy your break though and I hope to hear how you get on in future.

Bunny Wow they take parenting classes extra seriously where you are don't they. Grin

Yorkshire Hello there!!

Addie How're you coming along?

Hobnob Congratulations to you and Matilda!!

Kurly I haven't heard back off of my friend yet to see what she wants me to do, I'm not going to chase it though. She is generally one of those people who take a while to reply to things. I think before they go after our pensions, they're going to have to go after other pensions in the public sector. There are those who at the moment get final salery pensions and don't actually contribute to their schemes.

Worrisome I hope you're ok.

As for me, I've had a few on again and off again contractions. I thought it was it yesterday, but things tailed off. I'm now sat here feeling a bit odd, but we'll have to see what happens.

OP posts:
NovemberAli · 10/10/2010 20:04

Congratulations hobnob - love the name! Grin

Sorry to hear you're leaving us ozzie but your right to give MN a break if it's making you feel down, these first weeks are hard enough as it is without other people giving you a guilt trip.

Exciting news Hermya, maybe an early arrival?!

Good to see you again yorkshire!

pixiestix · 10/10/2010 20:32

Just popping in to see if we have any 10/10/10 babies! Grin

Ozzie - I don't know if you will be back to check this board but I'm gutted to hear that MN is making you feel like that. I have been surrounded by breast-feeding Nazis throughout this experience so I know exactly how horrible it is, although I have been "lucky" enough to be able to breastfeed. I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but breastfeeding actually really sucks in my experience! Teg feeds every two hours, rather than the four she would go if she was FF. I can't have a proper cuddle with her because whenever she is on me she smells milk and starts rooting like mad. My boobs are killing me, and whenever I am feeding I am tied to the sofa so I am bored and stiff and sore for at least half an hour every two hours. But of course, I can't stop because I would feel so GUILTY! Angry Sorry if that is really selfish in relation to your position, but I wanted you to know the other side of the story in the hope it might make you feel a little better. I will really miss you Oz - I hope you will feel that you can come back to us soon.

[waves] to everyone else. Sorry I've no time for a proper catch up. Despite the evil breast-feeding we are having lots of fun. Introduced Teg to the beach today and she loved it!! Next summer is going to be a blast when she can have a proper little swim and a chill out in the sun. Heaven!

Good luck to all of you ready to pop! [calm birthing vibes heading your way]

addie81 · 10/10/2010 21:56

still nothing doing here. Now booked to be induced on Thursday morning. I am pretty sure she won't come on her own before then. Apparently because she is (and always has been) pretty big for dates its a good idea to induce at 7 days over rather than 10 - 14. I am not crazy about being induced but wouldn't feel confident refusing to follow medical advice from a v. senior consultant obstetrician so am just going to go for it. I shall report back and let you know how I get on!!

luckyseven · 10/10/2010 23:00

ok so where was I?? ...

pixie congrats again on little Tegan and thanks for being so honest about the first days and feeding. I too can't believe how much propaganda there is out there about it and also how some people I know get completely obsessed to the point that it happens to be mentioned in every conversation. I like your attitude and I imagine I will be if I can I will and if i can't imagine the first few weeks will be a lot more sociable and we can share the jobs out more.ozzie sorry you have been made to feel this way, for every survey that says something is good there is another which will say it is bad so please don't be cruel to yourself when you seem to have made a flying start to being a mum.

worrisome sending you positive thoughts that you are working on a 10/10/10 frolickers baby!

oneof8 I got the HIP grant in around three weeks and now have to spend it on a front door as our letterbox falls off every time it closes. Could you ask the doc to leave a signed form at reception, i know they would do that at my surgery?

halo i did the dvd this afternoon and found that it quite good. Her voice is soothing rather than annoying and a lot of it we covered in my class. Some of the poses I can't do properly because i have such tight hamstrings and am super unflexible, I blame years of hockey, running and spinning rather than being zen with yoga. Some of the back stretches feel amazing too. Over here they generally don't let you start yoga til around 14 weeks so i don't think you are too early and a lot of the stretches really do give you more room inside. I think i will stick to this yoga dvd rather than the davina one a friend gave me, honestly you would get more exercise walking to teh kettle, making a brew and then lifting it up and down to drink it! I am so tempted to ask you more about your dreams as i have had quite a few crazy ones sprinkled with a couple of rude ones too! Great to hear you are starting to get movement and hopefully it means you don't have an anterior placenta as i feel very little but more of that in a bit ....

crazy how are you nine weeks already? It seems like only yesterday you got your bfp. I sold the CBFM on e bay and now have enough money to change it into a changing table from Ikea!

super 19 weeks already - have you felt any movement? I take it you must have your scan soon, it is amazing how much more you will see at this one.

hobnob congratulations on little matilda, wonderful news!

addie81 good luck over the next few days, I am really eager to hear your birth story when the time comes. I think i stand a good chance of being induced as I am due 17th Dec and they are likely to induce me before christmas so they can manage the wards better.

Yorkshire good to hear from you, i think i joined the frolickers the day you got your bfp. enjoy maternity leave and no sunday night dread!

good to see you popping back november!

hermya don't get me started on bbc breakfast, i watch it whilst getting ready in the morning and there is not a day goes by that i don't shout at annoying bill turnbull or insipid Sian. Dh says she is dead inside, anyway ...

As for my latest, I was at my 4 week doc appointment on Thursday (i don't see a midwife) and ended up having to go for an emergency scan. I was told at 20 weeks that i have an anterior placenta and would not feel as much movement (felt first flutters at 22 weeks) but lately the baby had been very quiet maybe one or two periods of movement a day but as i couldn't count ten over the space of a morning she sent me for a scan to check all was ok. I heard the heartbeat in the surgery on the doppler but it scared the life out of dh that we had to go to the hospital. Was put on a ccg? / trace at the hospital and had to record any movement and two hours later when they scanned me the wee thing was kicking away merrily but I just can't feel it. So happy days everything is fine but vague advice such as 'you might not feel much movement' is not really good enough, so if any of you have any concerns don't leave it as long as i did to get checked out.

Still struggling with our boys name, it is between Joel and Jude so if you want to let me know what team you are on then please do! i have a 2 syllable surname and a northern irish accent (think Christine Bleakley or Eamonn Holmes rather than the annoying ones in Hollyoaks or Nadine Coyle!) and it is the pronunciation in my accent which is making me doubt one over the other.

Here's hoping for some more frolickers babies and bfps this week!

WorrisomeHeart · 11/10/2010 05:40

Well no 10/10 baby from me I'm afraid! However, I have a sneaking suspicion things are happening - BH's have woken me up this morning (and kept me awake) and he just feels very low. We'll see if any of this translates into baby! I have my 40 week check today so will be really interested to see if any of the signs are looking good and if she bothers/is able to do the sweep. If things are happening on their own, I'm inclined to just let nature take it's course, but we'll see.

Ozzie so sorry to hear your experience, I think the bf/ff debate is one of the most harmful things that a new mother can be hassled about. Hope you feel better soon and can come back and keep us updated on the wonderful Tom!

MrsW good luck for tomorrow's scan!

addie sorry to hear nothing more is happening and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that everything kicks off and you don't need the induction on Thurs!

Yorkshire good to see you back!

bunny am Grin at your parenting class, that sounds brilliant. Did you ever have to do that thing at school where you each have to look after an egg as a baby for the day? Such an american thing - I've never understood why my NZ school did it - and so many got broken!!

lucky can I suggest you definitely go for the 4 weeks before option if you can? I was sooo exhausted just before going on ML, and although I am tired of waiting for the baby now, I'm really glad I took the extra time - I left 4.5 weeks before his due date (tomorrow!)
BTW, I think my name vote goes to Jude, but Joel is also nice! Helpful huh? Grin

Hermya ooh exciting!! I bet you're going to beat me and addie! Hope all is ok.

pixie lovely to hear from you (although somewhat scary Grin) It's good to get both sides of the BF story. Lovely to think about your trips to the beach next year too!

Right, am going to go back to bed now, will update you all after my m/w appt today!

Ozzie sorry to hear the rest of the board's making you feel crappy. You're right to take a break if it's getting you down. Hopefully we'll see you back here in the not too distant future

hermya sounds like your LO might not be too far away from arriving

addie hope you manage to avoid the induction. It must be kind of nice having a date when you know baby will be out by though

pixie your trip to the beach sounds lovely. I think the main thing that they tried to get across to us in our parenting class is that BF is bloody hard work and actually quite boring for the first few weeks, so it sounds like your experience so far is pretty normal. I'm sure it'll get better in a few weeks.

lucky I vote for Jude. I love that name but it just doesn't suit our surname so doubt I'll ever get to use it. Sounds like you had a bit of a scare with not feeling movement. My placenta's anterior, but LO must be a kick boxer in training as I'm still feeling tons of movement - I can only imagine how much I would be feeling without the placenta there to cushion the blows

worrisome being woken up by BHs sounds promising. Hope you get confirmation that something's happening when you go to your appointment.

I've spent the whole day today spring cleaning downstairs. Moved all the furniture so I could vacuum under/behind it. Have now got terrible back ache - think I should have waited for a day when DH was around to do all of the heavy lifting for me. At least everything's all shiny and clean now. Just got upstairs to do tomorrow...

Morning All!

Just wanted to say Ozzie I am angry on your behalf that you're feeling the way you do due to the feeding situation. A friend of mine felt the same as her class had drummed into her the same things you are having to put up with.

To balance it out, I am nervous I will not be able to BF my baby as I have no/extremely little growth and pain in the boobie department.

However despite the fact I am freaked out by most things preg related, this is one thing I am not.

Yes I will try to BF but if I cant I will add it to the list of things I tried, but are "not for me". Out of the 8 of kids, 3 were FF due to hospital stays (numbers 8,6, and 5), and one only BF for a couple of weeks before getting pneumonia and then ending up in hospital (no. 7).

They are no different to the ones that were BF.

No extra broken bones (we were boisterous kids, so between us have broken a few!), the 3 that had pneumonia, one was being BF, the other HAD BEEN BF, and one was the premmie (just bad luck as was in hospital over winter, and picked it up in there).

None of us have diabetes or anything else worthy of note. My sister (FF) and I (BF) are the largest out of the kids, she is a greedy mare and eats loads (but is a healthy weight, not fat - yes I am jealous as she is the "looks" sister and I am "the older one"!!) and I am fat... but need it to insulate the baby! Blush - yes I need an excuse, and this is it!

Take some time, and I hope you are feeling better soon - but if there was anything to this then surely with the case study of 8 kids, with the same set of DNA donors (AKA parents) SURELY something would have flagged up if there was anything in the propaganda!

In lighter news, I nearly dropped my book in the bath on Sunday. After the pool I have a long soak as always in a rush during the week (so shower).

Enjoying a cup of tea and trying to finish a book, and LO had a fidget session. My stomach moved, but could have been imaging it, so lifted to book higher to have a watch, and something (hand/foot/elbow??) stuck its self out! Was like a scene from Alien!

I knew to expect it eventually, but still made me "aghhhh" as was the first signs of this much action!! Doesn?t feel like that long ago I was getting excited about feeling definite moves rather than the flutters!

Bunny Glad class was fun

Hobnob Congratulations on Matilda's birth xx

Super Yay for hearing the heartbeat, this is one of my favourite things! Not to sure why, but always makes me smile. Our Scan?s show the HB but you cant hear it (we, I cant) so I do love the Doppler!

Lucky glad everything is fine. Cant have been a nice experience, but silver lining, you got to see LO again!

Sorry, Hi to everyone else - need to run to a meeting... didn't realise the time!!
