Isn't Jools Oliver a BESH? Or rather a FESH? I'm sure I read in some sleb gossip mag that she has written pretty frankly about her problems conceiving. On that basis, she gets a free pass from me on names.

StiffyByng · 16/09/2010 14:03

Hi all. And Scorpette, although you don't know me at all, I've read BESH threads and am so pleased for you!

I'm 7 weeks and stuck in a horrible cycle of feeling ill unless I eat but feeling too ill to eat, repeat, repeat, repeat. Am fed up with it, although reading that I have many factors that make me more likely to miscarry (your lovely GP, Scorpette) makes me feel grateful for it at the same time.

I've got Jools Oliver's book about their conception problems - it is pretty frank. She comes across as a pretty sound woman.

I'm dreading the weekend as it's my hen night and I have to try to keep from practically everyone I know the fact that I'm pregnant while NOT DRINKING ON MY OWN HEN NIGHT. How can this be managed? A couple of friends know so my only hope is that they can conceal it somehow!

Medee - I'd make noises about the scan date too. Glad you're going to do so.

PerfectDromedary · 16/09/2010 14:08

Oh, my God. There is absolutely NO WAY that I would have been able to have a non-drinking hen night. Poor BingBong.

Don't try the "I'm on antibiotics" route - is a dead giveaway that something is up. If you have useful friends, can they ensure that you are given e.g. tonic rather than gin and tonic?

Mind you, I am a rubbish and would probably just have cancelled the hen night having had some mystery illness just so as not to have to deal with it. Especially as I'm finding going out and not boozing more and more tedious.

OkieCokie · 16/09/2010 14:33

But they really do choose the most ridiculous celeb names don't they? I understand Jools has had problems conceiving but hasn't she now got about 10 children?

Stiffler OMG I got wasted at my hen night. Yes, you need your friends that are in the know to do operation cover up and become a pretty good actress if you want to keep it hush hush. I went out for someone else?s hen night when I was approx 7 weeks diffed and I was useless. Blamed sickness and diarrhoea for not drinking (and everyone tells me after that they didn't fall for it one bit).

PerfectDromedary · 16/09/2010 14:37

Four, with a four year gap between the first two and the second two.

I dunno - they're only celebby names if you use all of them. Poppy, Daisy and Petal are all ok-ish - I like Poppy and Daisy, definitely. Buddy is a bit of a stretch, if they are definitely going for that.

But frankly, I get really disconcerted by baby name discussions! My choices so far are tres dull and traditional and I don't want anyone criticising them. My judgy pants have always been a bit shite, though.

OkieCokie · 16/09/2010 15:03

Poppy Honey
Daisy Boo
Petal Blossom Rainbow
Hmm

Not being critical I am just reflecting that if normal "not in the public eye people" called their children these then it is possible that they would be subject to some ridicule at some point. Fortunately for them they will be fine as children of celebs can be called whatever and carry it off (look at the Geldolf children?!) and whatever they are called won't matter when the try and run for MP!

Scorpette · 16/09/2010 17:55

Drom, I know the Olivers have had a right shit time TTC and I don't resent them their kids at all. And Poppy and Daisy are nice names (Daisy is on our long list). But the middle names + Petal + Buddy = knuckleduster time. I have a particular dislike of people using 'silly' names, like Buddy and Sonny, or initials as a name (friend's son is called AJ, which makes me wince). Is only my own snobbery. I also know the Olivers wanted a boy, so am v happy for them finally getting their chap.

Oh, and we know the nightmare you went through to win Berwhale. Whatever you end up calling him/her will sound perfect to our ears :)

Casserole · 16/09/2010 19:03

There is a girl at Ministew's preschool called Huny

Thankfully, Ministew calls her Thomas Grin

CurlyCasper · 16/09/2010 20:53

Buddy Bear Maurice Oliver Shock

ginhag · 16/09/2010 20:58

Hmmmm... I am sooo not in a position to judge anyone else's choice of name, given that I can never tell people what small is called without comment/query/detailed spelling request :)

In other news I saw the independent midwives today and I does reckon I is gonna try for hb woop woop yeeeaaaah Grin

And lovelycunty sent me a natal hypo cd... It's all good in the 'hood.

Casserole · 16/09/2010 21:03

I have a "preparing for homebirth" CD somewhere Ginster if you want it?

And there is a birth pool in a box in my loft, but that might be tricker to post Grin Plus I quite fancy just erecting it in my living room and calling it a spa....

Scorpette · 16/09/2010 21:11

Surely NOW I can take the piss? Grin I'm sure being called 'Buddy Bear' counts as low-level child abuse. One of my Granddads was called Morris, so apart from the spelling AND on the priviso that it's not pron. More-eece, I approve of the middle name (like my opinion counts!). 'Buddy Bear', FFS. Sounds like a dubious puppet a paedo children's entertainer uses to lure kids with.

Muser · 16/09/2010 21:15

BUDDY BEAR

yay for homebirth ginsterpasty. I am going to be talking to my midwife about that next week.

Oh hey, my iPhone just corrected ginster to the full ginsterpasty. How odd.0

PerfectDromedary · 16/09/2010 21:17

Woo, Gin. Am quite excited at the thought of hb. What am an independent midwife?

Can highly recommend this yoga business, by the way. Is all about active birth which must be A Good Thing if it am at all possible.

ginhag · 16/09/2010 21:22

Ooooh stew yes please! That would grand. I shall furnish you will my address via fb...

I have been utterly fucked off the past few days. Work, home, everything. Except mooch who is wonderful. So is great to actually feel positive about something.

Also I gave up trying today and had lovely cuddly nap in my bed with moochy instead of trying to get loads done like I usually do when he is asleep. We've all got colds so a good snooze was v beneficial.

We've also seen a house we like, possibly, and so are thinking of moving, possibly...which will involve being heavily pregnant, moving, loads of building work etc. So, just like last time then :)

ginhag · 16/09/2010 21:23

Oh also Shock and horror re booze free hen night btw

ginhag · 16/09/2010 21:30

drom indie midwife is non nhs...you pay for their services and they take over antenatal care and birth and see you after. So you get continuous care and get to know the person that will deliver your baby. Team of 2, one is your main 'carer', one the 2nd, both attend birth.

ginhag · 16/09/2010 21:34

I am seen as 'higher risk' for hb due to c-section scar, so consultant will have to advise me to have hosp birth + continuous monitoring when I see him next month. But I have done my research and I don't think I am being stoopid. Plus I live very near the hospital.

CluckyKate · 16/09/2010 22:49

Great news about the HB Ginny - you only need to hear Box's HB VBAC story to know is the way to go Smile

Have just got back from local HB meeting so am all fired-up about such stuff. Was great to hear from 4 amazing ladies about their fantastic birth stories, all in the last month so feeling v. positive about the whole thang.

Box - met your IM too and she rocks Grin. Am seriously considering her offer of a one-off session to exorcise the gremlins from last time so will need to get hold of my notes somehow....any idea how long it takes to get them back from the hossie???

Saw the Osteo today who is also the ants-pants! She has fixed me in a single crunch & given me the go-ahead to stay in the saddle for as long as I like - yippee!

First Hippo-class tomorrow - is a wonder how I find time to do any work Hmm

SilverSky · 16/09/2010 23:18

Hi y'all!

We iz outside pizza takeaway following NCT class as we are both ravenous. Tres glamorous!

Surely Buddy is a dog's name!?

Medee · 17/09/2010 08:20

Just called CMW - she says yes to bringing scan date forward, so just waiting to call appointments line.

SilverSky · 17/09/2010 08:41

Thank someone it's bloody Friday. The last two days have been shocking. Troooooly. Can't go into I here but I cannot wait to leave work.

Slept right through last night prob cos didn't go to bed til late and of course my insomnia brought on by HI the night before really helped.

For cot mattresses have any of you bought liners in case of fluid ishoos?? The Moses basket mattress thang is already plastic sorta so guess just sheet on top??

We haz got hossie tour in two weekends time.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 17/09/2010 08:53

Great news medee! :)

silver My mw hated the plastic thing on the mattress in the Moses basket (another reason they hated the Moses basket) - because i) the baby can end up lying in moisture, ii) mininscule risk of drowning.

Tbh, there isn't that much fluid... a bit of sick is a spoonful, a leaky nappy is half an eggcup full. We're not talking pints here - and anyway you're supposed to replace the mattress for the next baby anyway...

How will you be celebrating the drawing to a close of your job silver? Will you be partying to the max? Perhaps carrying a cupcake for everyone on your team?

ChoChoSan · 17/09/2010 08:57

Hello all!

Congrats on HB Gingangooly, and welcome to Scorps

I have started feeling my baybee move in my tumtum!

CluckyKate · 17/09/2010 09:12

Hooray for those first gentle flutters Cho - there really is a baby in there Grin

Don't think you need to worry about protecting the mattress until they're out of nappies Silv. [Hmm] at the mattress replacement idea - I'd heard that is OK for babies from same family to share. 2 cousins & DD have already slept on our mattress so this one'll be no. 4 Shock
