Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

lol knitta I can just imagine all of us doing a secret wink in the labour ward and everyone thinking we are all mad (or very randy to everyone Wink).

I'm popping into work tomorrow to say hello and meet the fill in 'me' as she seems a bit anxious about a few things. I can't wait - went out today and brought a big box of biscuits for the staff room :) Hope I feel good there. Have booked another GP apt for nx week so I know how that went in the hope she will change my sick note to 'can do a little bit of work' instead of nothing. I'm sure, if I am up to it and can manage it that working will make me so much more happier in myself. Must just take it slow to begin.

Hi all, I'm shattered today having slept really badly last night!!!

There was a bit of conversation about BF prob a few pages back which said babies feed for approx 45 minutes every 3 hours - I'm thinking I need to learn to feed 2 at a time VVV quickly if that is the case!

Also, what sort of age roughly to they go onto normal cow juice?

tadjennyp · 23/09/2010 18:15

Congratulations on all the scans and hope everyone starts feeling better soon. My 3rd is due on my eldest's 5th birthday and I am slightly scared of how I'll cope, especially as I suspect that dh will have no paternity leave and I don't want him to use his entire (paltry) holiday allowance in one go! I had a toffee crisp yesterday, which cost me $2 and was really disappointing. Has anyone else really looked forward to something simple and it let them down?

tadjennyp · 23/09/2010 18:19

Kudos to you jack for bfing 2 at once - that's amazing! I put both of mine onto normal milk around about a year but used formula for the night feed and/or those cartons of ready made formula for out and about. (I did bf until both had weaned but I found it mostly uncomfortable and I know I did my best). Smile

zerominuszero · 23/09/2010 18:28

angels the secret code is "my babys head is all pointy!". shout it out while your giving birth and ill be listening out for it. Ill shout back "strange, mine feels square!" and then you'll know its me :)

zerominuszero · 23/09/2010 18:28

Oneof4 · 23/09/2010 19:00

So I'm not quite 19 weeks and this little one is wriggling around like nobodies business - anyone else seeing a lot of action (the only type I can contemplate currently!)?

tadjennyp · 23/09/2010 19:01

Just had an equally expensive time out, which was quite nice, actually! Phew!

smallblackflowers · 23/09/2010 19:09

Angels - you asked about bf in a sling - it all depends on 'the angle of your dangle' - how big your boobs are and which way the nipple points! I have a close baby carrier which is supposed to be pretty good for bf in, but never managed it standing up, but if my boobs were danglier I may have managed it!

I paid £150 for a used quinny buzz with carrycot and loads of other extras. Will be trying to sell it for a similar amount on ebay when I get around to getting it all out and cleaned /sorted.

jack re bf 2 at once -it can be done, but would be worth you speaking to your local bf counsellor (try NCT, Little Angels, LLL to see if they have anyone local to you) as they will have lots of helpful advice re positioning etc. No neat cow juice (as a drink) until 12 months is what is recommended.

angels1 · 24/09/2010 07:49

zerominuszero i hope for your sake there arn't alot of pointy headed babies being born when you're in labour - would be a tad embarassing to have to shout out "strange, mine feels square!" a number of times in the hope Wink

thanks for that sbf - I don't think I'll be able to go into a shop with baby and ask if I can try on a sling to test out if my boobs point the right way for bfing... Blush mine are big and now sadly very droopy with a nipple very pointy downy - hopefully they will be dangly enough Wink.

we looked on ebay for what to pay for second hand quinny and found big vary between £50 - £200. We're going to have a look at weekend and maybe start offering about £100 and hope tthis doesn't seem too cheap/stingy Hmm

OMG OMG HELP!?!?! Blush I'm slightly freaked out to say the least, and maybe a bit worried. Should... liquid be coming out of my breasts already!? Not pouring out, but if slightly squeezed.. I had fluff on my nipple so was taking it off, clearly 'squeezed' a little too hard and, well.. Confused

I didn't expect anything THIS soon.. help Shock

breaths

Good morning, ladies.. how are you all today? Congratulations on the boys and girls! Any scans today? If so good luck!

angels1 · 24/09/2010 08:25

tarlia I read before that stuff can come out of breasts from about 12 weeks - I've even given mine a little squeeze every now and again just out of interest to see what happens (whistles idly looking in other direction in slight Blush) - nothing yet from mine though. Don't worry - I'm pretty sure it's all normal and just shows they are doing their job and getting ready for use in a few months :)

OP posts:
Tarlia · 24/09/2010 08:32

breaths That is a relief, I was worried about premature labours and all sorts, but of course at 18 weeks it would just be a MC :(.

It does explain why the fluff was... stuck.. boak

I am off to see the MW for the first time today, I will mention it, but was a bit scared she would laugh at me and tell me it was impossible and I'd be forced to show her!

americanexpat · 24/09/2010 08:56

angels - I admit to the same thing (but have never told anyone until now).

Oneof4 - I started feeling a bit of occasional movement at 18-19 weeks, now at 20-21 weeks I can feel him move regularly. It felt like he was using my bladder as a trampoline yesterday. Hmm

For all the knitters and crafters, how are your baby projects moving along? I knitted a hat last week (REALLY hoping it's too big for a newborn) and I've just ordered fabric for a stacked coins quilt.

Oneof4 · 24/09/2010 09:35

Tarlia - poor you, what a shock! Do you think that will just continue for the next 20 weeks or was it a one off? Don't you just love the never ending arrival of surprise symptoms.

Expat - I had to shift him over last night as he was poking pretty hard against my skin, which was very weird. I'm reckoning there's quite a lot of space in there so a gentle shift inwards won't do any harm. Well, at least I think that was a baby I was shifting. It may well have been the chicken kiev I had for supper trying to find its way through my innards. Smile DH was lying on my belly singing (ACDC unfortunately) to him the other day and got a big kick in the chin for his trouble, which was funny. I tried to suggest that the baby simply doesn't like his taste in music, but DH is determined to train him / her before birth to avoid any arguments later. Little does he know that I'm playing a lot of Take That in retaliation... This child is going to be so confused.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/09/2010 09:48

Now getting faintly twitchy about lack of movement -- I think I feel the occasional flutter but nothing more than that. I suspect I have an anterior placenta, which would account for some of it, but I had an AP with DD too and was feeling a lot more by this stage.

EauRouge · 24/09/2010 09:49

Tarlia, it's perfectly normal, I was leaking colustrum when I was expecting DD from about 18 weeks. Like sbf I am wondering if my colustrum has come in already this time because DD is pooping for Britain at the moment Hmm although it could be down to teething or the mammoth amount of fruit she eats.

I'm off to an NCT sale tomorrow morning so today I will be sharpening my elbows and practising rugby tackles Grin

It's miserable here today, I'm trying to think of something to do that isn't swimming (which DD hates) or soft play (which I hate).

varicoseveined · 24/09/2010 11:26

Professor I'm feeling fewer movements than I did with my DD too, try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know!

I had a heckova Braxton-Hicks this morning, about three of them. Almost took my breath away! Things seemed to have calmed down now, I'll try to remember to mention it to the midwife at my appointment on Tuesday. Not sure what brought that on, been drinking enough fluids. Mind you, I am very hungry this morning...

Tarlia · 24/09/2010 11:34

Phew, thank you all for making me feel better. Its a rather weird thing to have happen, thank goodness for this group!

I was too chicken to ask my MW about it as its the first time I've met her. I'm really pleased that over here I will always see her, unless for any reason she is taken sick. And she is also at the hospital on a shift system ever day other than Fridays - so I may even have contact with her during the birth!

I heard the heartbeat for the first time today, amazing! She also showed me how to feel the uterus, so I will let DP have a poke later, as he sadly couldnn't come today.

I have no idea oneof4 Confused maybe someone else will come along and tell us!? I just hope it doesn't start properly leaking that I need to use pads!!! There is never a dull moment in pregnancy hehe

I'm still not feeling anything prof, I thought I had, but just not sure being my first.

Have fun at the sale EauRouge and hope you find something nice to do today.

knittakid · 24/09/2010 11:55

Oh, love the code, actually, did you all not think that one of the babies in that Cherry programme had a really pointy head? I had never seen anything like it!

Glad you had a good appointment Tarlia. What can you feel when you feel the uterus? I've also had some kind of discharge on my nipples.

A question about midwives, so if they are only some times at the delivery suites, who's there during the birth? not the mw that has seen you all through pregnancy? that's be something in favour of homebirths, wouldn't it? (if only I was brave enough)

Right, I'm off to do some digging at the allotment, hope it doesn't rain...

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/09/2010 12:03

No, you'll get a random midwife or two when you are there in labour. If your community midwife does shifts in the delivery suite (I think they tend to do at least some, to keep their hand in) and if she happens to be on at the time you go in you might get her, but it's unlikely. And your labour is very likely to go across a shift boundary so you'll probably get a change of midwife at least once during labour and birth.

Tarlia · 24/09/2010 13:16

You lay flat on your back knitta, have to push a bit, then tummy sort of relaxes and you can feel a hard, sort of ball in your stomach, the top of mine is about an inch above my belly button and goes down into my pelvis.

I'm not in the UK so the midwife thing is different for me, sorry, I should have been more clear about that. I think for a homebirth though you are likely to get the midwife you have had contact with if she is on call at the time, but I've not had a baby in the UK.. so hopefully in the know will tell you.

girlafraid · 24/09/2010 13:20

Had my scan yesterday and I'm having a little girl - very very excited and surprised, was sure it was a boy! :)
I have a DS already so feel very lucky to be having a DD too, can't stop smiling.

I am also likely to be having a planned section at 39 weeks, which is what I want. I'll be very relieved to get that booked in

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 24/09/2010 13:27

Congrats girlafraid although my dd was a horror this morning haha. I am having a planned section too. My mate just booked her date yesterday and its onmly 3 days befor the baby is due. I was hoping mine will be earlier as i have gone into labour early with all my other 4.
tarlia i had that with my first it got worse as time went on and i remember it suddenly appearing on my dress at a friends house.I did make lots of milk after and fed half the scbu babies (dont think they do that now tho.)
I am having very few movements i presume due to the anterior placenta. When i do feel movements tho its always on my bladder but i have yet another uti so bladder is very sensitive. Thank heavens for the dopler or id be a nervous wreck.
