Hello all,

I just realised I put the 1000'th message on our last thread (uh oh, I think that's the limit), so in my Blush at not realising I'd reached the limit, thought I'd better start a new thread if anyone finds it.

Oh dear angels1 step away from google, no good will come of it!

Seriously though, you've been doing what your body has needed to do in order to stay, well, alive (or half-human, as you say), and to feed you and your baby. You've been ill and there's really no shame in that, at all. It's all just temporary (wanders off repeating mantra to self), and will settle down after pregnancy.

If you're overweight now, it's for a very specific reason, you've been ill, you won't always be, and WTF did ugly come from? [whispers] Maybe that's the hormones talking?

I'm sure that this post is actually no help at all but I couldn't just read and run. I almost cried in John Lewis this afternoon when the shop lady said they had stopped doing maternity clothes. I think the way she said it made me feel like a freak making unreasonable demands.

Go and have a cuppa (of something that doesn't make you vom, natch), put your feet up and enjoy the last day (or two?) of summer hols.

EauRouge · 01/09/2010 17:04

angels don't be upset, everyone puts on weight when they are pregnant! There'll be plenty of time to lose it once baby arrives, just eat what you can in the meantime.

I've had the opposite problem with hormones, I've been avoiding all my friends because I've been so bitchy, I don't want to fall out with any of them Blush

tadjennyp · 01/09/2010 17:29

Angels women do have more brown adipose tissue than men anyway, it's what keeps us warm. If you hadn't been eating to stop yourself being sick you would have been wasting away and they would have moaned about that! You are not ugly, you are pregnant and that is a wonderful state to be in. You may stop putting on weight for a while now and it will even itself out - you don't know. Seriously, unless you put on 100lbs don't worry about it at all for the next 9 months. You are pregnant and beautiful, and repeat.

angels1 · 01/09/2010 17:54

I am pregnant and beautiful, I am pregnant and beautiful (said in a mantra-like way).

Thanks guys, made me feel a bit better. Baby bump I can manage and am quite excited by, it's just the flabby legs/arms, double chin etc that I'm not enjoying. Have now put on over 1 1/2 stones in less than a year...but then when I think about what's gone on in that time: slipped disc, miscarriage (then manic hormones whilst recovering including excessive hunger), and then weeks upon weeks of terrible nausea forcing me to constantly eat...it's not suprising I've put on so much Sad . Just feel ugly when I put on weight, especially as I worked so hard at the gym on getting fit etc. sigh. It'll be worth it, it would just be nice to have some self esteem (something I really lack at the best of times). I seriously feel at the moment I just don't want people to see or notice me as I am.

Ah, totally feeling for those of you frustrated by mid-pregnancy blues. I think we're at that really awkward stage where clothes look awful, we're super sensitive and it's coming up to scan time again with all the worries that can bring. How ironic that all my woes would probably disappear if I could just have a big glass of ice cold white wine and some blue cheese!

I'm working myself up something rotten about the 20 week scan (ours is in 10 days). Been having real nightmares about things going wrong.

Thanks for all the bra advice by the way...I tried to look at the HotMilk stuff earlier but work had blocked the site....must be on the naughty list!

Tarlia · 01/09/2010 18:07

Oh angels sorry you feel so down :( Really, you are pregnant so try not to worry about it. As for the fasting test, although I moan about it, thats more to do with the fact that I have to do it in a few weeks whilst still feeling sick and then when huge, its the whole fasting bit thats upsetting me as the cut off is 10.30 pm here until lunchtime!! I know I'm going to feel dreadful, but on the other hand at least if I was to get GD at least it would be discovered, unlike the hundreds of people that get it and its not caught until late.

I was talking to someone today who had their baby 10 weeks early, at the 18 week scan they found a bacterial infection, which led to her having to have meds and check up once a week, she missed it one week as she was on holiday, the day she got back she went into premature labour.

Scary story, but the reason I shared was because as we discussed today, take all the advice and tests offered to you, but above all listen to your body - she was at the hospital at 14 weeks but was sent home and told there was nothing wrong. Your body has told you to eat, so you have, which has helped you and your baby. So what if you have to have an extra test because of it :)

I really hope I didn't upset anyone, that was not my intention at all.

ledkr · 01/09/2010 18:33

angelsI can just imagine how fuming you were when you googled that i would have been devastated(not sure whether to see if its on mine)
You sound like i am feeling at the moment and it is hard when you normally take a pride and have worked hard to lose weight.I was 14 stone when i had dd and didnt lose much of it after the birth tbh. I then did the divorce diet and lost 3.5 stone but had already started to gain that back before this pg so i am anticipating being fairly hefty with this one and hoping i wont need to divorce dh to lose it. Coupled with the vile choice of maternity wear (unless you can afford designer)i have been left feeling a fat frump. I was joking with dh today that i am not off sex due to worry about miscarriage but that i feel so damn un sexy.I then realised tears were in my eyes so its obviously getting to me.
It doesnt help that i keep seeing pg women with only a neat bump and skinny legs arms and faces.Whats that all about?
I am having a training session at the gym on thursday am going to try and tone up my thighs and baboons arse so that it wont be so hard to get in shape afterwards so i will pass on advice after. Also keep it in perspective and think its only a few months so enjoy food for now and tackle it afterwards. We can even start a new thread to support each other. We have a wedding invite for June 2011 and i may use that as a goal. If you breast feed it will come off(i cant so have no chance)
Oh yes and the glam picture you had of me forget it. I have a rash on my face no nice clothes and have not worn make up for entire school hols. Only wore it before cos dd is now 8 so have the time and at my age love its not fair on others to go without :o

ledkr · 01/09/2010 18:43

eaurouge i too am bitchy and irritated by the very breath of some people. I am picking my company and may have to start avoiding public places as i want to tell people off for their noisy kids or bad manners. I went for a quiet swim last night with dd. It is a small gym pool for SWIMMING.It gradually filled up with young kids and loads of imflatables(it was 6.30)a family even bought their snorkle sets!!there was no room to swim so we got into the jacuzzi. Then a family got in and their 4 yr old was using the very small jacuzzi as a pool and was jumping in etc.You have to be 8+ to use it.I was fit to explode and then he kicked me in the stomach and im afraid i told them. Much to dds embarrasment.Grrrrrrr. I went home then as i am safer on the sofa eating galaxy.

zerominuszero · 01/09/2010 19:06

Hey everyone great to see the new thread up and running. I'm a bit of a lerker I'm afraid and don't have the time to get too involved, but I am laughing and crying along with you ladies every step of the way. I am doing well at the moment, just started the new term, don't feel quite as nauseas as before but still feel pretty sick and tired. Waiting very patiently to hear heart beat when I go to midwife in a couple of weeks as she didn't want to risk not finding it last time.

Finally, how unbelievably crap is the high street for mat clothes?! I was amazed, most places didn't even do them. I ordered some trousers online, hopefully they will fit. That's it from me for now. Stay well everyone :)

40Weeks · 01/09/2010 20:04

Hi girls

Sorry angels to hear you are feeling low - the midwife's note may not have meant to sound so harsh. We all have some fat, and maybe she just meant that it just so happened to be in the way - not that there was 'so much of it I couldnt see shit' IYSWIM (hope I worded that right) And a stone and a half is nothing, really, you will lose it in no time. I lost 3 stone after my 2 and I never thought I could do it (esp as b'feeding made me so darn hungry and I coulodnt stop eating - didnt help lose weight at ALL!) Just remember you are doing an amazing thing. I am dreading the bump getting massive as DH nevers fancies me preggers. He says it doesnt bother him but I know it does. I dont know if its the flabbiness or the fact that the baby is at such close quarters and its just rubbish. You put it there for goodness's sake!!!

EllieB will keep my fingers crossed that the next 10 days go quickly for you and the scan comes around quickly. Mine isnt for another 5 weeks or so, am looking forward to seeing baby again though. So tempted to find out sex but just in two minds about it. Might have to have a look at the CPC and be satisfied with that!!!

Zero have posted on another thread about asos.com for mat clothes. Top Shop are normally good but quite pricey - I usually ot for Next although they never have the stock instore - seems everything is online. Have yet to find mat jeans that fit, are comfy and flattering! Maybe I am asking too much.

Ledkr you are having baby #5 AND going to gym - good on ya girl! I am very impressed, hope it goes well.

linz17xxx · 01/09/2010 21:33

Suzym I have ordered the buzz 3 too its gorgeous. Bought the cosy toes for it too as it is so warm and snug :)

GinaFB · 01/09/2010 22:10

Hi everyone, just a quick hello after being AWOL for a while. The build up to my anomolies scan today has been very tense bearing in mind the bad news we received at 20 weeks last time.

I am very pleased to say that our baby has been given a clean bill of health and there are no obvious anomolies to worry about! Also we are having a boy!

Such a huge relief, we are actually having a baby!! Lots to do!

X

tadjennyp · 01/09/2010 22:12

That's lovely news Gina - congratulations! You must be so relieved and excited, all at the same time. Well done you! Grin

janedoe25 · 02/09/2010 08:01

Excellent news Gina! let the excitment commence! I cant wait till my 20 wk scan, its not until 5th oct. I have my 16 wk check with the midwife next wed for the triple blood test. I hope i get to hear junior's heart beat too! Have a nice day ladies!

40Weeks · 02/09/2010 08:14

Well done Gin.a you must be so happy

Good luck today Ledkr am sure you will be great, even in your pants!!

I am going to Spin class today. My only motivation is that the kids go to the creche for an hour. Am so sick of Mummy Mummy Mummy Mummy Mummy Mummy at the moment. Feel bad saying that but need some time on my own, even if it is to go to dreaded Spin. DS2 is currently refusing to eat his weetabix and trying to hurl himself from his booster chair Shock

americanexpat · 02/09/2010 08:32

Gina - that is such great news, you must be absolutely relieved and excited!

I've been doing a bit of car seat and pushchair research, but haven't settled on anything yet. I'm leaning towards a car seat with separate base, as it seems so much easier than needing to mess about with the seatbelt each time we take it out, especially in the early days.

40Weeks · 02/09/2010 09:20

Hi americanexpat we found the Which? website a really useful guide for car seats as they do really stringent testing on all car seats. Might be of use to you? We have a travel system which we found great in the early days as the car seat ftted into the pram chassis, so it meant that if he was sleeping, we could put him straight into the pram chassis without waking - I remember thinking how glad I was to have it. ALthough it was a Mamas & Papas one and their car seats have the worst safety testing on the Which website so we got a maxi cosi for DS2, but I did miss the flexibility of the travel system. Horses for courses though, just my personal opinion. I think the maxi cosi care seat/carrier fits nto a Quninny chassis though - anyone know for sure?

TallulahBelly14 · 02/09/2010 09:48

Hello ladies! New thread, so exciting!

Hope everyone?s feeling fab, I have been mostly, apart from dreadful stabbing pains in my tummy on the weekend! Apparently it was just ligament pain, but I was pretty sure I was dying! The nurse I saw just gave me some paracetamol and sent me on my way.

It?s my first day in maternity wear (GAP Maternity Perfect Trousers) and they are sooo comfy! I also bought the skinny jeans which are pretty amazing too. I?m on my way to showing now, but still not enough to get a seat on the tube, no matter how much I push my tummy out :)

I also bought a couple of tops from Topshop maternity, but I?m thinking I might take them back as I already have lots of tops that I should be able to wear all the way through. And I can stop worrying about not gaining weight, as I?ve put on a good 4lbs so far!

But glad people are finding out what they?re having, we?ll just have to cope with the suspense for another 5 months!!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 02/09/2010 09:52

Yes, maxi cosi carseat fits a Quinny chassis (the Quinny Zapp chassis, anyway, not sure about the Buzz)

40Weeks · 02/09/2010 10:03

Thanks for confirming Prof you are an oracle of knowledge!

So who IS/ISNT going to find out baby's sex then? I am SO torn. Didnt find out with first two, so thinking its ok for a change. Lots who found out have told me they really bonded with baby once they knew and it didnt detract from birth at all (as quite a few of my friends found out second time round) but am intrigued to know what you lot think??

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 02/09/2010 10:06

We will (assuming cooperative baby). I have no self-control... found out with the first two, as well.

angels1 · 02/09/2010 10:11

ditto to lack of self control - we will too.

slept like a dream for once last night - only woke up about 3 times (which for an almost oermenant insomniac since start of pregnancy is good!).

Chores today and then I really must get out the school files in hope of being able to think about starting my lesson planning ready for next week (which probably means I'll get them out with all good intentions ans then waste time get distracted by facebook/mn.
