Sorry to those of you going through pain atm. At least it is nearly all over for us now :)
I have had another bloody migraine, that is 5 since appointment on thursday, i wonder how many i can get by weds Grin
I need to sort out a plan of action if i get told to stay in hospital for my ds, his 2nd day at playgroup is weds, 15 mins after my appointment! Looks like it will be cancelled on his first week. Im going to miss him sooo much if i have to stay in Sad

AbFabT · 12/09/2010 17:09

Thanks, jennimoo - yes, the Birth Pool In A Box is what we've been recommended, I am tempted by the deluxe version with the seat and cup holder!!! :-) Measuring kitchen today, and will assess, may just go Mini if not.
Agree with you, I'll be more comfortable at home, with access to my food, my stuff etc.

So not quite definite, but fingers crossed. Well, it' s never definite anyway, is it!

Hope you slept ok, tf - though with the afternoon nap, I know it's not ideal, but as long as you got some sleep some time, it's better than none! Sorry some of you are continuing to not sleep. I seem to have the opposite problem and feel like I am wasting my life sleeping. Got so much to do, but it's hard getting out of bed!
Dilly, glad you got your sleep!

nymph, I share your frustration. Our house is a mess, and it takes me longer to do anything. Usually, I'll zap mess in no time, but it aches my back, I get tired, and it seems neverending. I need to move to a bigger house!

Hope those of you lacking in sleep manage to get some, and those in pain, that it lifts soon.

AbFab, my homebirth was in my bath in my tiny bathroom. As long as midwife has room to move round the bath/pool and somewhere to take baby for all the necessary (bit of a wipe, tie the cord, weigh etc)it should be fine. So excited for you (and a bit jealous too).

Elsa123 · 12/09/2010 17:55

Evening everyone!

I finished work on Friday. I still haven't managed to sort out handover notes (my successor has already been in for a face to face handover, but he's not due to start for 2 months, so notes may be helpful.) I plan to jot something together from home this week, on top of all my other plans! We've been hosting my ILs this weekend- they brought some lovely Jasper Conran baby stuff from Debenhams with them.

My DH departs soon to go on a 4 day course Sad so I'll be alone all week. Still, I have a do to go to on Thursday and my week is already booking itself up with other stuff!

I am soo tired- my limbs ache like made.

There have been so many posts since I last looked that I can't keep up, so from what I remember...Tyson, thats pants for you. If the baby hasn't grown it does sound like it will be better out than in. Good luck x x

AbFabT I so pleased for you that homebirth is looking good. It will be lovely to be in your own place and comfortable.

Hermya321 · 12/09/2010 18:34

ILGH Oh you poor thing. I hope you feel a bit better now.

Elsa That was sweet of your inlaws, sorry that your DH is going away though. He'll be back before you know it though.

I've still got aches and pains, but feeling ok about them. My doula is coming round this week to have our final pre-labour discussion. She told me that one of the most important things for me to have with me was chocolate Grin. Apart from that, it has been a lazy day for the most part.

AbFabT · 12/09/2010 18:39

Thanks, ILGH - she did suggest the bath, but our bathroom is titchy, the door opens onto the bath and there'd be no room for DH AND the two MWs, the taps are at an awkward end, oh, I have a small home (joys of living in London!). I'm not counting my chickens just yet, might get all set up and still end up in hospital, huh! Am hoping for the birth pool in the kitchen. Can eat cakes and give birth at the same time! :)
And thanks, Elsa!

Glad you are finished up with work - hurrah! Enjoy your time off, sorry you'll be missing DH though!

ILGH, we are just getting our Amby Hammock set up! The frame's been set up for a while, but we're getting the fabric bit sorted now! Better dash and supervise annoy DH! :)

abfab the frozen yoghurt tubes go on the er...outside...just on the pubic bone where the symphisis pubis joint is (spelling? the bit where the 2 sides of your pelvis join at the front of your fanjo). A rather startling process but could have been worse!

Sorry things are rough, nymph, it can really get a person down not being able to get stuff done.

FingonTheValiant · 12/09/2010 19:52

Hi all, Sorry to hear so many of you are having a rubbish day.

Really sorry to hear about the migraines Tyson, I went through a phase where I had loads, and it was hell. I have my fingers crossed for you that you don't get any more!

ILGH I hope you're feeling better. I think at this stage we're all entitled to be a pain in the arse. I kicked dh out of bed and onto the floor last night, until the baby comes, as I can't bare sharing any more, and he just pulled a face and sucked it up; unfortunately, children don't have enough social aptitude to realise that while everyone might be thinking it, there's a reason no one says it to overly hormonal whales women.

AbFabT sounds like we're on the same timeline and plan. I have to midwife coming on Friday to assess our tiny London flat for a home birth; I'm negotiating with dh to buy the deluxe Birth Pool in a Box; and after I've fed him, I'll be forcing dh to help me move the bed so that I can put up the Amby - just in case! Ooh, which reminds me, I need to wash the sheets for it

Elsa JC baby stuff is lovely, I'm very jealous Envy

Aargh, and Hermya you've just reminded me that I need to call my doula - my brain has turned to mush!!

Hope everyone has a nice evening, and gets as much sleep as possible :)

Elsa123 · 12/09/2010 20:47

Welcome back Fingon!

It feels like my Amby nest has been set up for weeks! It seems to break down smaller than a travel cot, so I am hoping it will double up as that too.

FingonTheValiant · 12/09/2010 21:16

Thanks Elsa :) I'm planning to take our Amby away with us when we travel, it seems a bit weighty, but it is pretty small.

Do you have any ideas about how to protect the mattress on it? I've got a few of the sheets, but I'm worried about stuff leaking straight through.

AbFabT · 12/09/2010 21:38

Dilly, wasn't me re the yoghurt tubes, but thanks anyway! :-) Haven't got any yoghurt tubes (never even heard of them!), but do have Calippos in! Have eaten two today! :) It's been scorching hot here!

Fingon, how funny - I put the hammock sheets in the wash today! :-) Just about the get them out of the machine! I don't know how to protect the mattress, no. I do have some sheets for OUR bed that are waterproof - we are planning on co-sleeping, so it's to prevent leakages from myself (downstairs and nipples!) and any baby accidents. But I have nothing special for the Amby. Would be interested to hear anyone's solutions/suggestions.
Good luck with your midwife and the home assessment. Unlike you though, I'm not having a doula.

OP posts:
Elsa123 · 12/09/2010 21:40

possibly rather stupidly I hadn't thought about a mattress protector for the Amby. Perhaps I could use one of those large pad things like a puppy trainer one- I think they do them for babies too!

nymphadora · 12/09/2010 22:00

Just finished Buffy. Cried at the deaths. Moving onto Angel next. Roll on the Spike bits !!!

FingonTheValiant · 12/09/2010 22:05

I had wondered about those pads, I think pampers do some. Might grab a pack tomorrow and see how they fit it.

I think I also need to get a waterproof sheet for our bed, I forgot about all the leaking; which is ridiculous seeing as I've leaked through my pj top every night for the last couple of weeks.

Where did you get your sheets from AbFabT, if you don't mind me asking? I'm hoping to find some quite nice cotton-y ones, as my memory of them is from when I was a child and they were sweaty and horrid.

Hermya321 · 12/09/2010 22:14

Nymph The ending to Buffy was very very sad, poor Spike. Although he has the best lines of the entire series, the scene where he's in Angel on the always makes me laugh.

AbFabT · 13/09/2010 00:00

FTV, of course I don't mind: Brolly Waterproof Sheets. Not the cheapest, but I figured you get what you pay for, and I didn't fancy nasty plain plastic sheeting that crinkles and makes you sweat, and towels I find uncomfortable, even if you put cotton on top. I bought two, so one can be in the wash while we are using the other.
Haven't used them yet though, so can't personally vouch for them, but someone recommended them on here, and I liked the write-up on the site.
Yet another thing to wash!

Now, what pads for the Amby are you talking about please? Maybe I should have bought a spare Brolly Sheet to cut up.

tiredfeet · 13/09/2010 06:32

hello all, I've been wide awake since 4.30 not sure why! abfab thanks though your comment about it not mattering so much when I sleep as long as I am getting some made me realise that I shouldn't get so worried if my sleep pattern is getting a bit out of sync. I'm glad I'm on maternity leave now though so I don't have to worry about struggling into work the next day.

hermya I like the sound of your doula recommending chocolate Grin

abfab and fingon I hope the home birth assessments go well. I love the sound of the birthing pools.
I'm the opposite though and not really fazed by hospitals, most of my family are hospital doctors and I actually think I'll be more relaxed once I'm at hospital (famous last words possibly...). My main worry is the car journey to the hospital though, I hate travelling by car at the best of time and our journey is a good 30 minutes even if the traffic is good. I wish there was someway I could bypass the car journey (anyone got a helicopter I can borrow?!). My biggest fear is that we will get to hospital and they will tell us to go home again and I will have to do the car journey again. But at the same time I don't want to risk leaving the car journey too late as it can be very slow with traffic. Argh! no wonder I'm awake in the middle of the night, these thoughts just keep going round and round in my head

sorry to all those suffering with spd. I really feel for you. It must be so tough.

ILGH poor you children really do speak their minds don't they! as fingon says though, I think everyone thinks that about pregnant women from time to time, especially in our hormonal patches, but adults have learnt not to say anything. I suspect DH finds my mood swings (from normal and happy to hormonal and vulnerable normally) pretty hard to cope with at times but he has learnt to just keep quiet and hug me (although he did say about one tearful episode the other day 'you will laugh about this a few months or years down the line' Grin )

elsa hope its not too tough with your DH away. Keeping busy sounds like a good plan.

nymphadora · 13/09/2010 07:04

hermya thanks for the spike fix :) I've seen the whole lot before but never remember what happens so got right to his death before I remembered it :( looking forward to his bits in angel though!

Elsa123 · 13/09/2010 09:01

Morning all. Thanks for the link AbfabT I forgot about general maternal leakiness, so it will probably be a good idea to invest in something. In any event, I've been getting night sweats and apparently these can get worse after birth when your body wants to get rid of excess fluids and have a post birth purge.

Day 1 of maternity leave..I don't count weekends. I lay in til 0800 and am about to shower then dog walk. I am off to see my parents for lunch today to save me and DH the interruption at weekends. There is a bakery in their village which does fab custard slices....

We went to the second and last NCT ante natal class on Saturday and I was looking forward to it as I was hoping it would be the bit on how to actually look after a baby! What I was not a fan of was being split into groups and having to work out nappy changing and bathing for ourselves...thats what we'll be doing with a live one anyway so I was hoping the experienced teacher and mother would actually show us. She did not want to discuss anything remotely negative like PND and kept going back to its all going to be rosy, which is fine, but I think people need to be more informed, just in case.

The ladies on the course were really nice though, shame they're all so far away from me!

lilmissmummy · 13/09/2010 09:04

I didnt enter the Olympics:-

  • Biggest Bump! TICK
  • Biggest Feet!
  • Slowest Walk!TICK
  • Fastest Walk!
  • Most trips to the loo in the night! 4
  • Most indigestion tablets consumed in one day! 2 packets (not sure how many is in a packet
  • Fastest Hospital Bag Pack! Havent done it yet Blush
  • Best Baby Clothes Folding!
  • Worst Memory!TICK
  • Fattest fingers! Wedding ring is now permanently on my necklace as it was cutting off circulation. Grin

Brain is not in gear to name check this morning as did not sleep well, but children are at school and dh is at work so will have a little nap later!

The crying is annoying, cried in Asda yesterday as dh had forgotten to pick up wholewheat bread and just grabbed 2 loaves of white Blush

I am also very jealous of the home births - I am starting to come round to the idea I think maybe it is because I am counted as high risk and therefore not allowed one. Not bothered by hospitals though and the hospital I am going to is 5 minutes down the round and just won awards for its food, so it wont be so bad... it obviously didnt win awards for the waiting times though Grin

I used to love Buffy but never really got into Angel. Spike was rather lovely though!

These are good if you need something as a mattress protector. I used to put them in my changing bag as well for leaking nappy in pushchair and dirty changing table/ changing mat incidents. Although I have just seen that they now do a changing mat version. They are very handy (no I dont work for Pampers :) ) I dont knwo if anyone else do them though.

Is anyone else having extreme PMT type emotions? Yesterday I was soooo angry, no idea why Biscuit, feel fine today!

To all those with a messy house, mine is disgusting, cant hoover, cant bend over, it hurts to wash up (actually could possibly been why I was so angry yesterday Hmm) anyway there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. Cant wait to have baby so that I can have a nice clean, tidy house.

Hope everyone has a nice day today xx

DillyDora · 13/09/2010 09:05

Morning all - sorry abfab it was ilgh who wanted to know about strange icing practices! Yoghurt tubes are fab - I have only just discovered them but they seem to be an excellent thing to feed small children (actually I think they're fromage frais, but you get the picture)

Lordy - w'proof sheets for the grown up bed! It hadn't occurred to me despite dread of the weeks after birth and pads and all (teenage years all over again?) hmm...must ponder....

Another reasonable night last night, thank God. No chance of getting DH out of our bed, no way, so...

tf that car journey would play on my mind too, sorry lovely.

Seeing the mw later... as LO still zooms about like noone's business I think we can safely say he is not head down and staying there!

nymphadora · 13/09/2010 09:26

Morning, kids at school currently eating half loaf of fresh bread for breakfast as I had to buy some more ice , shouldn't have done shopping though as am aching now. Never mind don't have to do anything until 3pm

BionicEar · 13/09/2010 09:27

Morning!

Sounds like a lot of us aren't getting much sleep. For the last 3 nights I have been up several times in the night for the essential wee run then about 4 until 6am I am awake as can't get comfy and back to sleep. Am so tired like a zombie, but hey guess by time baby arrives the lack of sleep won't be such a shock to the system!

On Saturday 2 of my lovely friends hosted a Baby Shower for me. It was great fun we played games like "Baby Drive" which was a twist on "Beetle Drive"! Grin Never been to a Baby Shower before so didn't know what to expect. Then all my lovely friends gave me presents - all baby and pampering related which was lovely as I wasn't expecting that at all.

Decided that even though I was exhausted from lack of sleep, to go to church last night to see our new vicar being inducted into the church. Managed to stay awake throughout it and it was interesting to watch all the rituals they do before they declare him officially the new vicar. Had a good chat with his wife - they have 4 kids 6yrs and under - phew! She's hoping to come along and join some of my friends and I on a Friday at my house where the little uns play/fight and we eat cakes/biscuits whilst sharing the joys and woes of life! Grin

For those of you embarking on Mummyhood for the 1st time I can well recommended meeting up with a few others in the same boat on a regular basis - especially on the low days as they'll be a fantastic support network and know exactly what you are going through and you'll make some really good firm friends out of it.

Can't remember if I said or not but I have finished work now - yay! Am so glad as don't think I could have coped being there any longer with the lack of sleep and ever-increasing mountain of work to do!

Right I'm rambling now - which is always a sign of how tired I am so I will shut up and leave you all to it whilst going on a hunt online for the best TENS machine hire.

Hope you all have a good day without too much pain and some sleep!

sam12 · 13/09/2010 09:36

Am jealous of those on maternity really struggling at work this morning but as you can tell by the fact I'm on here I'm not straining myself!!
Had weekend full of antenatal classes which has made it all feel very real. I am the same as you tiredfeet- it is at least 30 mins drive to hospital it can take an hour or more in traffic. My dh doesn't drive either- eeek!! The journey is the reason I decided against a home birth even though I go all faint and shaky everytime I step into a hospital. What have I done?
Hello to everyone else

DillyDora · 13/09/2010 09:45

Sam I don't know how anyone is making it in to work every day - I'm WFH at least 2 days a week, I know I have the dreaded SPD to contend with but still, I don't know if I could get in every day.

Nice post bionic that sounds like a really nice w/e!!! I need to sort a TENS machine too - are they all much the same or what? There are about 94 different types!
