lovely names harmony... we are still not sure, feel like i need to focus on narrowing down a few!

umf i dont have many mummy friends around here yet either.. have u joined pregnancy yoga though? have met one or two people through that but really relying on NCT classes to meet some more! If u in London.. you should try meet up with few of us ... organising a time is tough but the thread is here if you interested. [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1028619-Nov-babies-London-Meet-up?msgid=21077714 meet up]

Feeling very preggy today... we painted the nursery, DH did most of it but still my back hurts! Going to sit on my ball now...

Also feels like my little one is sticking his/her foot under my ribs?? anyone else feel this?

tiany · 28/08/2010 21:21

meet up

Mibby · 29/08/2010 20:56

tiany Im getting the foot in ribs things too. Nice isnt it Hmm

Got called back by the Dr for another blood test and they've decided Im anemic so Ive got some icky tasting liquid supplement to take. Tastes like rusty nails :(

Nursery is half painted now :)

Just been to collect some baby clothes from a Freecycle lady and had a lovely surprise....two huge bags of lovely clothes so I think we've probably got enough stuff now :)

blondecat · 30/08/2010 10:07

rinnyx so sorry about your test. Keeping fingers crossed for you. I am still taking driving lessons but luckily its a refresher - got my licence at 17. I really admire you for going for a test now - I think I'd be too ditzy to try.

Those automated booking systems are awful though. No leeway. No special circumstances. Just oh we booked you. Its your due date? We don't care. You lost your theory test and will have to take more lessons? Not our problem. Id cry my eyes out.

Getting a bit worried after reading all your appointment posts. We went for a private consultant and he didn't measure me once, filled no charts in my notes and only ever does a Doppler. Maybe its ok because it's always just him and the pregnancy is uneventful but still feel unmeasured and uncared for. Tomorrow or Wednesday will see a midwife for the first time for bloods and antiD. Excited and scared of needles. Maybe I can convince her to measure me? Noone ever told me how big the baby is. I'd be great to hear ESP as io gained 8kg!

I try to eat healthy but a 3 week holiday with plenty of 3 course meals didn't help. And I still occasionally crave fast food. And emergency snacks every two hours. Ooops

On a positive note I gave in to baby gap and bought two things. Our first ones!
But I am confused

What are the little long sleeved suits with no legs called?
And how do you use them?
I didn't see any with legs or any baby trousers so they make no sense! Still bough them though. Comparing them to bump size every day.
In fact if someone could translate sleep suits, onesies, baby gros etc into descriptions for me, please?

Totally clueless.

hmmSleep · 30/08/2010 12:16

Blondecat, it is confusing, different shops call them different things, but don't think there are any rules as to how you use them really!

So far as I can figure;

Body suits - (AKA baby vests)have either long or short sleeves, no legs, worn under other clothes when cold, poppers help keep nappy in place, or on their own with little trousers.

Sleep suits (AKA baby grows or rompers) have long or short sleeves, legs and sometimes feet. Normally worn over a bodysuit.

Sleeping bag (AKA Gro bag) little sleeping bag with head and arm holes to use instead of blankets.

Hope that helps!

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for my horribly long absence from the thread, but as pregnancy makes me monumentally fed-up (I feel your pain, Ebb) I've been trying to pretend I'm not.

However, that's proving more and more difficult as I'm now a waddling egg-shaped person, so I wanted to pop back and moan see how you all were.

Pretty much the same as me, it would appear!

I have no idea how much weight I've put on, but my arse has grown from a size 12 to a size 16. I was a size ten on top, but my norks are now the size of bald heads.

When people ask how long I've got to go and I tell them 'still two months' their eyebrows fly up to their hairlines. That's the polite ones.

Had some scary bleeding a couple of weeks ago, then the obstetrician panicked and said I was five weeks small for dates. Cue emergency scan/blood tests etc.

All fine.

Glad to hear you're happy about your induction mumcha. I was induced last time, and it was absolutely fine. Bit jealous you're going to meet your baby so soon. I can't wait to meet the little lass.

I've knitted her a wee Santa Hat out of cashmerino wool to match her brothers. It's so teeny!

Hope you're all bearing up. Smile

bunnygirl80 · 30/08/2010 23:35

Booboobedoo glad to hear all is ok after your bleeding.

I have a bit of a stupid question, but DH asked me about this last night and I had no idea what we're meant to do!!

Do you put sheets/blankets in the pram or does the baby just go straight in it? I assume if it's cold you wrap/cover them up to keep them warm, but do they need something underneath them to protect the pram mattress from potentional leakage/mess?

CardiCorgi · 31/08/2010 08:45

Hello again. Getting bigger and bigger here, what size am I going to be by the end of this?

tiany and Mibby yes, another one with feet in the ribs, it is really not that comfortable. I can't say that I am enjoying being pregnant that much; it's not as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm not wafting around getting excited by the fact that my tummy-button looks freaky and I still have several kilos of weight gain to look forward to.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your driving test Rinnyx. I hope you get a nice examiner.

Thanks for the summary of baby clothes. My midwife gave me a list including "strampler" and "schlafanzug" i.e. babygro and sleepsuit and I have been furrowing my brow trying to work out what the difference is.
We bought a starter pack from Mothercare and another little set from Debenhams when we were in the UK and any other clothes will be bought when the baby is here and we know if we have a whopper or a little one.

grinningbee · 31/08/2010 09:10

No feet in ribs here yet (Could be the fibroid protecting me!). Lord knows which way round this little monkey is. But I do hope he doesn't end up back to back like dd! I do not want another mega labour...

May I have a little "aaarrrggghhh" moment?

Saw someone yesterday I haven't seen in a while. She saw dd, asked what we were having this time, and when we said a ds, she said " ah well, that's your family complete then"

!

We said we'd have to see to which she replied rather sternly "oh no, two is enough".

Bah humbug! Grin

Glad all turned out ok for you Booboobedoo

grinningbee · 31/08/2010 09:37

Oh, and another one with weird belly button here.

Last time it stayed in. This time, when I lay down it pokes upwards and outwards. Yuck!!!!!!!

Off to see the Dr later 'cos of blinking thrush. Dh has got it too... Blush

Isn't life glam Grin

blondecat · 31/08/2010 10:46

hmmmSleep thank you. Now I feel slightly less clueless.
My purchases don't sound that useful anymore but they are still v cute.

What places would you recommend for baby clothes?
Any any fabric / design (buttons zips) tips?

I will start shopping when my mother visits this weekend

Yay!

comtessa · 31/08/2010 11:49

Hello all, hope you all had some sunshine this weekend? So sorry to hear about all the aches and pains.
Very happy that your LO is doing well after your scare booboodeeboo - hope you're recovering from the worry!

I'm in the happy position of my MIL going crazy for buying ANYTHING and EVERYTHING for baby - DH is only child and this is our first. Also helpful as I was made redundant and am now temping at about half the salary I was on. However I'm secretly hoping she forgets at least one thing, so that DH and I can go and choose something together. In the meantime, am reminding myself how lucky I am that PIL want to and can help us out at this time. :)

Would any Nottinghamians fancy a meet-up sometime?

comtessa · 31/08/2010 11:50

Oh, and when is everyone packing their hospital bag? Thinking I should start to consider these things, esp as baby is huge already...

hmmSleep · 31/08/2010 12:14

blondecat, I found the easier to put on and off, especially when they're tiny and pooing 20 times a day the better.

I like these bodysuits

these are great for night time, no messing about with poppers etc. I prefer the one's with a drawstring at the bottom but can't find them anywhere, wonder if it's a new safety thing? John Lewis quite good for basics in general.

Personally during the day I put my two in alot of this type of thing, with little trousers I found that easiest, but I know a lot of Mums prefer babygrows, I just got fed up of constantly doing the poppers up wrong in my knackered state! Would avoid babygrows with feet, apparently they can deform the baby's feet? Also means they last longer.

Also I wouldn't buy baby shoes, they just fall off, socks are a bit better, but to be honest just wrapping them snug in a blanket when you go out and not bothering with anything on feet works best.

Have fun shopping!

comtessa, I was laughed at for packing my bag at 36 weeks with dd, everyone thought that was very early, I then got rushed to hospital for emcs at just short of 37 weeks, so glad I did. Pack away I say Smile.

b00kw0rm · 31/08/2010 12:25

Hi all,
Sorry I've also been MIA for so long- combination of summer hols with no internet and work being busy...
Rinny- I'm so shocked about your driving test being cancelled like that! I too am learning at the moment with a test booked for October when I'll be 36/7 weeks and I didn't even know they could cancel it at such short notice... something else for me to worry about!
I'm v. impressed with everyone buying clothes, buggies, cots, etc- we haven't actually done anything for this baby yet as we've still got lots of stuff from DD that I need to sort through. Anyone else on DC2 that hasn't even started (to make me feel better!)?

In my defence, we have been having lots of stuff done to the house though- new central heating system and new bathroom being fitted as I type- so I think it's nesting of a sort Hmm
And finally, to all those feeling pants- seems like a few people are really starting to feel it now.

hmmSleep · 31/08/2010 12:41

bookworm I'm posting a lot on here as to what everyone should be buying, but haven't actually bought anything myself yet!

hi all,

just dropped a wad of moolah in mothercare, tesco and boots on all the misc essentials. the non-glam stuff like maternity pads, baby wipes, changing pads, disposable pants, cotton balls, blah blah blah.

all this baby stuff is so ex!

got the cutest cardi and sweater as well and DH on seeing them goes 'WHY WHITE??? it'll get dirty so easily!!'
told him most baby stuff are white/pastels and he went :PP

bunnygirl80, i'm wondering the same thing re: prams. am looking at sheepskin liners vs fleece footmuffs and getting confused!

Rinnyx · 31/08/2010 13:42

I didnt think they could also b00kw0rm I was and still and far from impressed and my instructor is even writing a strong worded letter to them about it, I just hope I get lucky and a slot becomes open....atleast 2 weeks before DS is born Angry

In better news tho just been down to the cash point and see my HIP money has been put in so just ordered in the changing bag from E-bay and off to the city to pay off the pram :)
Plus will drop my sure start form into the not so lovely job centre while I am down there, hopefully that will be processed as fast and I can get the last few things like cotbed sheets, etc in our newly opened matalan Grin

Loooopy · 31/08/2010 14:35

Hello all,

Sorry to have been absent for a few weeks. Been on hols to France. Lovely to have a break with the DSs and DH, and we had the most gorgeous chalet on a fab campsite, right on the beach, with air con and everything. But man, it was hard work being so farking huge in the heat and running around after a 16 month old on the beach and in the pool.

I only have 2 weeks and one day left at work too. People are having difficulty believing that I'm only 27 weeks - I am the size of a 40 weeker!!

And I hate being pregnant. Huge, breathless, can't bend down, all clothes apart from maxi dresses uncomfortable, can't sleep, can';t get comfy anywhere and its only 27 weeks. Wail wail moan moan. I've at least 11 weeks to go to. Wail wail moan moan.

comtessa would be up for a notts meet.

Sorry not to name check more, hope everyone else ok.

Mibby · 31/08/2010 17:21

comtessa Im all for a Nottingham meet-up :)

Rotten BH contractions today, had a scary half hour when i thought we might get an early arrival but all has calmed down again (apart from constant wiggling)

Hope everyone else is as well/ comfy as possible

tiany · 31/08/2010 22:45

Bunny i am not sure if you put something in the buggy before popping the baby down either Confused

Loopy i am impressed!!!! i have big things ordered (cot, buggy, changer etc) and buying little bits like nappies and shampoo as i see them on special... tiicking stuff off my list gradually.

Finished painting nursery last night so hopefully will start to take shape when all funriture arrives in next few wks.. need to get some art for the walls though and add lot of colour as have stuck to white!

4madboys · 31/08/2010 23:12

with regards to prams, i have a bugaboo and will use the carrycot bit for the first few months and i have always put a sheet in the bottom, basically the fitted ones you can buy for a moses basket, as they fit and are easy to take out and wash for when they inevitably get puke on them etc.

i dont think there is any need to for the babies sake, tho i think cotton sheets must feel nicer to lie on, but you really need something just to protect the mattress/base of the pram from puke etc Grin

re baby stuff, i am pretty much sorted clotheswise, thanks to friends giving us stuff! need to get a few of those baby nightie things tho, they are essential for nighttime, so much easier than babygrows.

i still need to get all the maternity pads, breast pads, nappies, wipes etc.

i got some muslin cloths the other week and some blankets, and i have others from the elder boys.

oh i need to get a bouncy chair type thing! tbh i think i need to sit down and make a list of what i have and havent got etc, but finding the time is hard! still the boys go back to school next week so will have more time then!

on a Grin i have a scan on sunday, private, just so we get an extra look at the baby and can check the sex again, the sonographer was convinced it was a girl at the 20wk scan, but i just want to check! esp as i have been given so many girly clothes!

oh i need to get nursing bras, but its best to leave that as late as possible as boobs tend to expand lots in the last few weeks!

i have sent of my hip form so looking forward to getting that! any idea how long it takes normally?
