Sarahbuff what happens to any left over entonox, do you get to keep it?

Good luck with the move comtessa

Had an unscheduled hospital visit last night - I'd had a tiny amount of bleeding and some stomach cramps, so phoned my doctor who told me "better safe than sorry" and to get myself to the hospital. They were lovely there, saw me immediately and checked everything very thoroughly. Placenta, umbilical cord and baby are fine and they checked on the size at the same time and said that there was nothing to worry about, it's a little smaller than average but well within the normal range. Phew.
Doctor has said that it was still the right thing to do and I have to go and be checked again next week. The baby of course, is now perfectly happy and busy kicking me in the ribs.

rollerbaby · 01/10/2010 14:32

Hi sarahbuff I'm due 31 October/1 Nov and planning a HB! First time around, so obviously slightly apprehensive but generally exicted and looking forward to it all. On maternity leave now as of today so will check out Special Deliveries on iplayer!

cardi glad you are ok - best safe than sorry for definite.

PrivetDancer · 01/10/2010 14:40

sarahbuff I'm planning a homebirth too

Unfortunately, cardi, I think they take the entonox away with them again :(

Thanks for the Special Deliveries tip off - just watching them now! and trying not to cry too much...

pyjamalover · 01/10/2010 15:21

Hi, I've been lurking on this thread intermittently but haven't posted since I first found out I was pregnant. Really sorry for all of you with aches and pains etc but it's quite comforing knowing I'm not suffering alone!

Medically my pregnancy has been straightforward, but I've found it hard work, my nausea is back the last couple of weeks (I'm 33 weeks), the heartburn wakes me up at night, breathless walking up to my bedroom and the baby keeps headbutting me in the bladder! Have been very hormonal today and cried watching tv several times.

I'm also possibly the most disorganised mum to be on this thread, haven't bought ANYTHING yet for the baby!

Hope you all have a lovely restful weekend.

mumcha · 01/10/2010 15:40

Hi all i have had all my babies at the ulster hospital where special deliveries is filmed ,but it was never as nice as it is now.I wont b getting 1 of their home from home rooms tho as im under consultant care and want all the pain relief going :).

lainey1981 · 01/10/2010 15:46

hi all, how is everyone today? such a day for snuggling under the duvet watching a movie.
I decided to venture out for the first time since Monday (have been off work with SPD etc) as needed to get DH birthday present and get some air. managed to forget my brollie and got absolutely drenched, then to top it off was walking to get tube home when literall got sh*t on from a great height, but a lovely pigeon Blush. thankfully managed to locate a tissue in my bag and wipe it off lol. classy!

gaga hope you are managing to get your BP down

cardi must have been v frightening for you - glad everything is ok Smile

lainey1981 · 01/10/2010 15:46

eek just realised I wrote DH instead of DP - lol

sarahbuff · 01/10/2010 15:48

Hope your birth goes well Mumcha! Lol Cardi about the entonox, I don't plan to use it but on midwife's advice ordered it since it doesn't hurt to have it in case I do want to use it. Hope your homebirth goes well honeymoo, I've had three easy quick and straightforward hospital births, so hoping for another the same but in the comfort of home! Grin Is it a first homebirth for you, Privetdancer?

Hi pyjamalover! You're not alone, I've been nauseous this entire pregnancy, and although it's tailed off the last few weeks, I very often still feel sick if I eat in the evenings. Kept my weight gain sensible though! :) Don't feel bad if you don't have much for baby yet, I have too much as I already have three boys! We didn't find out the sex of this one so I'm washing some white newborn stuff and my sister is bringing a few pink things just in case, as all I have is boy stuff!

PrivetDancer · 01/10/2010 16:57

Yes it would be my first, I planned for one last time but it didn't happen as I needed IV antibiotics. Aside from that was all straightforward so will see if we manage it this time. I'm lazy so it'll be nice not to have to trog over to the hospital!

sarahbuff · 01/10/2010 17:54

Grin I feel you on that. I'm just looking forward to having my other children around, it was such a nuisance to have to sit around for hours afterwards waiting for DH to bring them up, then waiting hours for baby to be see by the paed and midwife to sign papers so could leave! I was grateful for being treated well, but figure I'll be doing someone a favour by not clogging up their labour ward! :) a if I'm really lucky I might even get to be delivered by my own midwife who I've known for more than 5 years, and has looked after me through all four of my pregnancies... Grin Hope yours goes well!

cluelessnchaos · 01/10/2010 18:14

I am with you sarahbuff, I want the other kids to feel part of the birth as much as they feel comfy with anyway, I also like the idea of getting my head down and having this baby and not enduring a car journey each way, I want my girls to know that birth can be a calm, quiet affair and doesn't have to be high drama, did anyone see the programme cherry has a baby, there was a scene of a woman having a water birth at home, it seemed so peaceful, and her mum and fad as well as husband supporting her.

I have the consultant to convince on Monday, the midwife is happy for me to have a home birth, fingers crossed

Vix7 · 01/10/2010 21:16

thanks sancerre and comtessa

had 36wk check today and again they say my BP is slightly elevated. not sure what i can do about it. it's not high enough to warrant immediate attention, but high enough for them to take 2 readings each time. fingers crossed things remain normal and i can still go to the birth centre instead of the crummy old hospital!

in other baby stuff news...have finally gotten the stroller! spent last night assembling it. hv yet to figure out how the raincover goes on though.

also bought 124 newborn nappies for 4-6kg. for the more experienced moms, is that enough or shld i have bought the larger size or what? super Confused.

umf · 01/10/2010 21:55

good luck tomorrow comtessa! we're going to ikea, which seems bad enough.

cardi glad ok, must have been alarming.

has anyone read spinningbabies.com and managed to make sense of it? i've confused myself entirely now.

bought 5 packets of boots maternity towels today (10 in each). can't remember if that's enough. probably it's not, is it? seem to remember going through an astonishing number last time.

planning homebirth here too. actually planning now - have even made list of items to assemble in sitting room. the blind has been delivered (although not yet put up), so neighbours will not be traumatized. BP still fine and no swelling, unlike last time, so begins to feel worth making arrangements. suppose motivation for homebirth is really a balance of power thing - i'd rather do it on own territory, especially after stressful previous experience.

happy maternity leave to those starting now!

tiany · 01/10/2010 22:33

Enjoy the mat leave! Still another 5 wks for me to go unless the bambino decides to pop out early!

Any recommendations for baby monitors??

sarahbuff · 01/10/2010 23:35

Ooh, I hope you get your homebirth cluelessnchaos! I know some women prefer to make lots of noise in labour, but for me it has always been really pretty calm and quiet, so I feel comfortable doing it at home. Funny enough someone on another thread commented that that lady having her birth at home in the pool in "Cherry Has a Baby" must have been clever editing, it couldn't have been that calm! I disagree, I barely made much noise at all, particularly with my last labour... It was pretty funny actually because when DH and I got into the labour room (20 minutes before DS3 was born) there was a woman down the hall SCREAMING like she was being murdered. DH and I were laughing a bit (out of surprise I guess, not to be rude) because I was struggling to figure out what exactly was making her scream that loud, despite being at that moment in full blown labour and having already given birth twice!

cluelessnchaos · 02/10/2010 00:13

I go quiet too, I thought I made noise when I was pushing but dh says I am completely silent until I have birthed

balijay · 02/10/2010 10:10

Errm... that lady down the hall screaming was probably me Blush In fact I couldn't speak for 2 days after delivering as my throat was so sore! Oh to have a calm, relaxed and quiet birth this time round! To be fair I was induced by being attached to a drip (no pessary or anything) and my contractions went from 0 - 100mph in 15 mins flat so no chance of a controlled build up!

smokeybacon · 02/10/2010 13:04

I have to say clueless and sarah that I am in awe of your calm silent births! WIth DS2 I did this gutteral mooing. Not screaming, but mooing! I am hoping that I can avoid the farmyard noises this time. Blush

I really think that i ought to get my hospital bag sorted now. I have got the packs and packs of maternity pads, and the cheap knickers from Asda that can be thrown away afterwards, but they are the shorts style and am now wondering, incase of CS, whether an alternative style would be appropriate as I think the top of the shorts would prob rest just where the scar would be.

I went into town on Wednesday and kept looking at the tiny baby and newborn babygros, but for some reason just couldn't buy them yet.

sarahbuff · 02/10/2010 13:23

Aw, I feel for you balijay, so glad I've not had to be induced with any of mine. I think what has made my labours so calm and manageable was that they started with easy pains and steadily progressed without any worrying or stopping and starting or sudden changes. Somehow pain that starts manageable and builds from there is much easier to keep under control than pain that starts fast and hard and stays that way. That and the fact that I didn't need to do much pushing to get them out, each one I mostly was told not to push as they were coming on their own and I'd just end up tearing if I pushed as well. I guess I've just been blessed with an extra wide pelvis or something! Grin A lot of people do say though that bigger babies birth easier and quicker because the contractions have more baby to push on. My smallest was 8lb8oz and my biggest 9lb6oz. Given that my third was my smallest, I do wonder what this one will be!

hmmSleep · 02/10/2010 14:21

Afraid I'm a noisy one too Blush, can't remember much, but Dh says I managed to control myself quite well to begin with, just pacing up and down, followed by crawling around the floor, repeating 'ow, ow, ow' quietly to myself, but just before I started to push I pulled the gas and air out of my mouth and gave the loudest wierdest alien scream he'd ever heard! All very undignified.

Had a very strange 36 wk appointment with consultant, think we both completely misunderstood what each other was trying to discuss, ended with my making another appointment for 40 weeks (if I get to that) to discuss induction Confused.

Have started on the raspberry leaf tea, it doesn't taste great but isn't as bad as antisipated either.

Also, I've had my invite to go for the flu jab, anyone else?

OP posts:
cluelessnchaos · 02/10/2010 14:58

I don't think you get much choice as to whether you are noisy or not, I couldn't have made a noise if I tried, even if someone told me it helped, I just go into myself and in my mind I was mooing when I pushed but nobody else heard it.

Gaga82 · 02/10/2010 16:11

Thanks for all messages of support. Really appreciate it. Went back on Friday and BP was still high, but had lowered a little, which was great. Protein was up though so have to repeat 24 hour collection next Monday! Think everyone (who I hadn't briefed!) thought I was mental the other day taking a big bag with me everytime I went to the loo! If only they had seen the funnel I stole from my nephew's bath toys, then they would have wondered!!

Anyway, back again on Monday and Wednesday so far next week. Wednesday to see about BP medication. Have to say, the team at the hopsital have been amazing and after a day of despair at the lack of control I'm now staying positive, ensuring all essentials are tied up here just in case and resting lots.

hmmsleep I had my flu jab invite, asked my MW and she said that at my surgery they are inviting all pregnant women after swine flu scare last year. Previously would have been only high risk groups (chest complaints etc) so completely up to me as a low risk patient.

Rinnyx · 02/10/2010 16:45

Anyone else at the point were they have just had enough now?
I know I am only 35 weeks Monday but the school run is a killer on me these days :(
Also I am in 2 minds on if to put the crib together (already have the cotbed done) or wait til I am 37 weeks.
Sorry for the moan in a bla mood today, found out if the 2 driving test dates my instructor is trying to get off another instructor dont work I will have to wait til Feb 2011 for the next free one but then again if he gets one of the test dates I will be in my 37th weeks Hmm

umf · 02/10/2010 21:08

Gaga funnel is brilliant idea! I have enough trouble just with the samples for midwife - especially with 3 year old watching in surgery loo and asking his distressingly detailed questions.

Didn't realise would get flu jab invite; just booked myself appt. Had seasonal flu in 2009 and was ill for best part of month so definitely want vaccine. DH gets it at work. This year it's seasonal and piggy combined.

Survived Ikea today with sanity and waters intact. Tho much poorer. Lots of other heavily pg women looking very miserable too.

Any tips for where we can buy the tea?
