Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MummyWilliams · 11/10/2010 16:17

zinnia pregnancy brain is great eh! Grin No Friday's scan is for 'reassurance'. Haven't had my dating scan date through yet Hmm Hopefully get through Friday's scan ok, then I'll chase up the dating scan date.

Does anyone have any hobbies? Apart from DC(s) DH/DP, housework etc.

Mine is card making and general craftiness stuff. I used to have a horse, but she didn't fit in with family, so had to give her up. Sad

thell · 11/10/2010 17:42

Hi everyone!

Loopy I got out my ring sling today, as I've been babysitting my friend's dinky 2yr old daughter on a monday morning then taking her to collect her brother from nursery - she's been falling asleep from 11am, and needing to be carried to the nursery. The last two weeks have left my arms really achy, so today I retrieved the sling from a friend and carried her. It was bliss! She was so cosy and cuddly, all snuggled up on my chest, and blimey, it saved my arms! It reminded me how it feels to be 8 months pregnant - all round in front, forward centre of gravity and leaden legs!! I'm with you, can't wait to start browsing baby wraps.

Names-wise I have started trying to engage DH, as although it's early, we are going to find it very hard to agree. We are screwed!!

I watched Single Father tentatively, as I knew it would make me cry, but I am also trying to avoid re-awakening a full-blown crush on DT - it's too distressing!

MummyWilliams I like doing crafty things too - I had been stock-piling various Christmas friendly crafts, eg. tree decorations and cards, for selling at a craft fair, but I've gone right off it recently. Maybe if I decide which fair to sell at, I might be motivated to prepare properly. Are you busy making things?

QwertyQueen · 11/10/2010 18:54

Will anyone join me in a little experiment?
Everytime I know anyone who is pregnant I get them to do the old wive's tale of ring on a string and so far our success rate is 100%!
I did it when pregnant 1st time round, and although every other old wive's tale said a girl this one said a boy and was right. I tried it because my dad (who is the most unspiritual kind of person ever) breeds birds and he does it to determine the sex of the unborn chicks in the eggs, and says it is always right...

here is what you do:
Take a gold ring and tie it to a thread. Hold it over your belly while you are lying down. If the needle or the band swings in a circular motion, then you are having a girl. If it moves back and forth, then are you having a boy.

I am going to do it now, will report back!

QwertyQueen · 11/10/2010 19:04

hmmm not sure,
was difficult to tell the movements were so small....
will try again in a week!

MummyWilliams · 11/10/2010 19:32

qwerty does it have to be gold? I'll have to wait til the weekend when my parents come over (mum has a good ring).

QwertyQueen · 11/10/2010 19:45

Dont think it has to be gold....

thell · 11/10/2010 19:48

Inconclusive results really - when I thought about it going in a circle it suddenly started making a circle, then when I thought about it going straight back and forth it did!
So I tried to clear my mind and just think 'baby'...and I think it made a little circle. But I wouldn't like to bet on it!
I'm only 8 weeks, so will try again. And ask my mum to do it for me too, when I see her at Christmas.

thell · 11/10/2010 19:49

PS - my mum was right last time, and thinks it will be a girl this time.

Yorkstar · 11/10/2010 20:39

Ooh interesting theory *Qwerty will try that sometime soon and report back. Dp thinks girl this time but i think another ds.

Heard baby's heartbeat today on doppler :) My sister is a ex midwife and has one from her previous pregnancy which she has loaned me for next 30 weeks. It was lovely to hear, took a couple of mins to find and was very quiet but was def baby's and not mine which was much slower. Feeling slightly more relieved now but will hold out still for scan on Sat.

Good luck to all scans taking place this week, both 12 week and reassurance. Looking forward (and hoping to report) lots of good news.

MummyWilliams i have also been feeling what i think and recognise to be tiny movements in the last week. I know it's so early yet though so could just be in my head but don't think it is Hmm

cowboylover · 11/10/2010 21:27

I just did that Qwerty and apparently I am having a boy! Which is what we both would dearly love as I lost my dad 2 years ago this Christmas and have dremt about giving him his name as a middle name and a favorite of ours as a first name Smile

Dont want to get to excited but I also do crystals and they argreed.

Good luck to all the scans this week and I am super scared excited about ours a week tomorrow for our 'first contact' (dont want to sound to Star Treck there!) with our future DS or DD

fijibaby · 11/10/2010 22:53

MrsC so sorry to hear your news Sad You have been so positive throughout. Best wishes.

Sending positive thoughts to everyone who has scans and other tests coming up this week.

fijibaby · 11/10/2010 23:30

I go away for 3 days and the board explodes!

Loopymumsy good to hear you have had a better few days. You are doing a fantastic job of staying positive! Yay you Smile and Fx for Wed's scan.

runningmonkey the insomnia is a complete bugger isn't it? 3.45am is my golden hour - grrrrrr Angry I keep Rescue Remedy Sleep by the bed and use it if I'm getting myself in a knot with all those irrational thoughts, it worked a treat through my last pregnancy!

Thell how exciting to be part of a research project!

A friend of DH has a 'gift' he predicts the sex of babies and has never been wrong... apparently we're having a girl this time. At the moment I'm completely unphased about finding out although DH is keen. If we have another boy we've got all the gear and if it is a girl then we have one of each. My family would be delighted... 5 gorgeous grandsons so far and no little girls!

fijibaby · 11/10/2010 23:32

Sorry to people I've not name checked... having a blurgh day and would love to spend ENTIRE day in bed... sadly DS has other plans... pah to energetic 10month olds and yukky cloth nappies

Oh Loopy you sound as if you speak from experience about the nappies. Luckily DS appears to have the constitution of a shark so I haven't had to deal with poorly child on top of everything. Long may it continue!

N'nite all.

Oh my loopy don't blame you for the disposables there at all. Yuck! I too am struggling with nappies and nausea. For some reason tho the smell of wet disposables makes me feel worse!

Thanks for the suggestions re the insomnia loopy and fiji had a bit of a better night last night although did have a really crazy dream - one of those ones that keep going even though you are aware you are half awake.

How lovely to hear the heartbeat yorkstar

thell no gold in the house but will give it a go with MIL at the weekend. My hairdresser looked at my bump last time and said 'definite boy and I'm never wrong'... had a DD In fairness though we were told definitely a boy at the 20 week scan so it was a bit of a shock to us too :o I don't think we're going to bother trying to find out this time tbh!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow loopy and anyone else with scans over the next few days.

zinnia · 12/10/2010 14:55

OK stupid paranoia time (and apologies in advance to everyone suffering with sickness): has anyone else's nausea gone away already?

Cazzr · 12/10/2010 15:47

Hi all, sorry not posted in a while but definitely lurking.
Felt I needed to reply to zinnia tho. Yes mine seems to have gone too, tho had a SHOCKING week last week (am 8 weeks today) which I could attribute to having some sort of virus and lying down too much (I do find I feel worse if I lie on the sofa a lot).

Feeling a LOT better the past few days but worried to get too excited incase it comes back again... :/

On other topics, been feeling quite down about reading about peoples losses and feel quite anxious that it could just as easy be me. I can't imagine how you girls must be feeling but have a big hug from me. I'm sure it won't help a jot but I felt the need to offer it.

Got my appointments through for booking in and scan (28th oct for booking in, 10th nov for scan).
Feel REALLY nervous about it tho have no real reason. The thought of them not finding a heartbeat literally makes my heart ache and I can't imagine how i'd take it or even if I could ttc again afterwards. Hats off to you girls who have ttc after miscarraige.

God, this has turned into such a depressing post. Damn emotions!

On a positive note, DH seems to have bucked his ideas up after I had a bit of a moan about him not really being very caring recently whilst I have been feeling rubbish. The house was a tip because muggins here has felt too grotty to care about it.
He seems to have got the message tho so long may it last! :)

zinnia · 12/10/2010 16:30

Thanks Cazzr - think it's going to be a loonng time till my scan on Thursday week!

The nervousness is unavoidable at this stage - you're definitely not alone with that. Am OK myself most of the time, following decision to have positive attitude, but then every so often am gripped by fear. Keep trying to remind myself how lucky we are to have access to scans and midwives and that there's nothing I can do anyway etc etc. Doesn't help all that much though!

runningmonkey · 12/10/2010 16:47

zinnia I had an almost nausea free day yesterday so understandably began to worry. It has returned with a vengeance today tho! Can't remember how far along you are sorry but I am 10weeks 1 day.

Cazzr I remember last time going for my 12 week scan and being convinced that they were going to say that I had mde it all up and there was no baby in there!! As zinnia says, completely unavoidable and normal :) Glad your DH has bucked his ideas up tho.

zinnia · 12/10/2010 16:57

10+4 runningmonkey :) Must. Calm. Down.
Off to a work party with ALL my colleagues tonight. Cue sipping at same glass of wine for 3 hrs... :(

DMCWelshCakes · 12/10/2010 17:49

Zinnia - not just you. I'm 10 weeks tomorrow. Had a horrendous week of nausea last week. Since Staurday night I've been feeeling progressively better which made me a bit anxious.

Today I'm back to low-level background queasiness. Roll on 13 weeks when it'll hopefully be a distant memory!

Rollercoasteryears · 12/10/2010 18:29

Zinnia - yes my nausea's nearly completely gone (I'm 11 weeks today). The odd wave (often when brushing teeth or allowed myself to get a bit too hungry) but generally now gone.

Loopy best of luck for tomorrow's scan.

Yorkstar - how lovely to have access to a doppler and to listen to baby's heartbeat in privacy of your own home!

Being signed off work on Friday was the most sensible thing I've done for myself (one of the only things I've done for myself?) for a long time. Actually felt like I had a modicum of energy today - though it helps that I've had my mum here yesterday and today so I've been lying on the sofa watching Strictly! Will actually have to look after DS tomorrow, which will no doubt be rather more tiring Wink ...

MummyWilliams · 12/10/2010 18:39

Hello All!

Zinnia - you might find that the nausea will come back. Try not to stress too much about symptoms disappearing. I think the placenta starts to take over at about this point so symptoms will start to ease up for some women. I have goodish days but then it comes back.

cazzr As others have said, early pregnancy is a worrying time. Pregnancy is a worrying time full stop. Try to stay positive, I know ITS very hard. Keep talking on here, it does help, even though there are some negatives (as in you hear of people miscarrying) the majority of the time, its good to come on here and talk in general or about your worries etc.

thell I've always wanted to do a stall or something like that through school, but never seem to have the time to make up quantities etc. I just like to make things for close family & friends if you know what I mean. I did think about going into business with it, but I am a freelance graphic designer and that is enough for now. It's terribly hard to be motivated to do anything at the moment. My house is a complete mess. Good for you if you can find the energy to go to the craft fair.

LostGeek you had a scan today, didn't you? Hope everything is ok.

loopy shall be awaiting your news after your scan in the morning. Yes that lady I work for does have DC (DD8 & DS4). I don't think she quite realised what she had said. But she defo said it.

I don't work Mondays so I spent yesterday just lazying around, managed to brave the washing up from Sunday's roast though yuk! yuk!

I was naughty and had the day off today as well, I am absolutely exhausted, so DP took the children off to school, and I took myself back to bed - have been there all day apart from lunch & loo trips. DP is going to be home late today, he does the most of the cooking and I do the other bits around the house. But he asked if I could cut up some mushrooms & peppers for tea - I cried. Yes I cried. Then I cried because I had to go outside to the chest freezer to retrieve pizza for DC's tea. OMG hormones, hormones, hormones.
