Here's the new thread for the September 2010 arrivals - though some babies have already come in July and August, and maybe more to come in August before we're done with this month...

Oh congratulations chat! That's a lovely name :)

And well done for the labour - it's good you tried, and good that it turned out ok in the end too x

Stupid Hospital!! Am not amused.... Sad

Had appointment with consultant this morning who was absolutely crap! I do not feel re-assured about anything at all!

Am 40+1 now and they basically don't want to see me back at the hospital until 40+10! And they haven't even told me what they will do at this point...

Midwife had previously told me baby was 2/5 engaged and now consultant says only 4/5. She also said they would do a sweep etc today at hospital and they have checked nothing except my BP and urine like normal.

I know I'm a bit of a novice with this being DS1 but do they not check if your cervix is softening or becoming favourable etc when you become overdue? Which is what I was told the whole point of this mornings appt was.... Angry

Have left a message for my midwife to give me a call, as she said she would come out and do a sweep if I wanted....but I feel so fed up now.

I know I am prob no where near as uncomfortable as some of you so sorry for the winging - but am I wrong to call the midwife etc? Get her to come out and sweep etc...?

Thanks peeps.xxx

Chelle1986 · 21/09/2010 11:18

Congratulations chat and catbus!

parkj83 · 21/09/2010 12:09

Oh Chelle x

That's annoying. It's not all bad that they are leaving you till 40+10 - they're hoping things will progress naturally I should think.

Good idea re speaking to your mw though.

JodeyLea · 21/09/2010 12:33

Congratulations chat. Lola was up there as one of my favourite names. Lovely.

Just been to my last ante natal class and now feel like I am so so so ready to go into labour!

park i too am eagerly hunting for the show everytime I visit the loo. Never been so desperate to see it!!! Saoirse that's good news for you. Hopefully things will start moving now. Still no signs for me!! Booo! But on the bright side, my cold has really cleared up after a couple of shitty days. I can now taste food again, my nose isn't blocked and my head feels normal. Just a bit gunky on my chest. So I'm Grin again x x

parkj83 · 21/09/2010 13:00

I'm pleased you're feeling better :)

I had a couple of icky evenings but not as bad as you Wink DH seemed to cop the worst of it lol

TMI alert... Is anyone else having problems with motions vs iron tablets? I forgot to take my lactulose for a couple of days, and owee, I'm paying for it now! I'm scared reluctant to strain too much as I'm worried the strain will pop my waters... but then again, that's what I want, isn't it?! Hmm Confused :o

Munching lots of pineapple seems to be helping in that department though, so hopefully I'll be in less discomfort later on

cinnamongreyhound · 21/09/2010 16:48

Congratulations Chathappy!!

Chelle1986 when I had DS1 they did a sweep at 40+10 and then induced at 40+12 so it may be the same for you now. It's pretty usual to have a routine appointment at 40+/- a few days depending on the clinic day. If the midwife is happy to give you a sweep and you want one then you have done the right thing in ringing her. This time it was policy to do a sweep at 40+7 and 40+10 which I agreed to but unless they are doing a sweep they don't check the condition of your cervix.

Luke is still doing well, has settled into a pattern if feeding every 3 hours except in the evening when he has a bit of cluster feed from about 6pm until bed, every 1 1/2hrs. I am feeling much better today and DS1 is getting much more involved with his little brother in the last few days too :)

ooosabeauta · 21/09/2010 20:02

Congratulations Chathappy, Mapletree and Catbus! Grin

Have been reading the thread but not posting often because it takes so long to read it all and actually I haven't had any momentous news to share!

Am 39+5 now, but, bizarrely, I'm actually not willing it on that much now. It's weird but I'm actually feeling much better and more comfortable now than I have done for months, so could quite happily go a little longer! I had a few osteopath treatments which have helped my spd and I've had a massive nesting bug for about a week now, so fairly happy to keep going a bit longer and get the oven done along with some other exciting jobs while I can! It's just everyone else in my life who keeps bugging me to get on with it!

The midwife yesterday said that she'd do a sweep next Monday, as I'm 3/5ths engaged, but having looked into what this entails I've decided to say 'no, thanks, I'll wait!!'.

Good luck to everyone else due imminently Smile

JodeyLea · 22/09/2010 06:54

Bit frustrated this morning!! Been up since 5am for no reason at all. No discomfort or baby signs, just woke up wide awake and couldn't get back sleep. I've had a cupa and a biscuit and listened to some lovely chilled music whilst trying to rock myself back to a sleepy state in my glider but no, still wide awake!! I think I'll need an afternoon nap today x

Dixiebell · 22/09/2010 09:36

jodey, afternoon naps are the way forward!

saoirse86 · 22/09/2010 09:55

My waters broke last night at 11, since then I've been having contractions but not really regular enough or painful enough to go to hospital. Tens machine is definitely helping though, it's distracting if nothing else.
I'm going to the hospital in a bit to see what they suggest.
Wish me luck!

parkj83 · 22/09/2010 10:20

Ooh, good luck saoirse :) Hope it all goes smoothly Wink

jodey I found myself wide awake at about 3.30. Normally I go straight back to sleep, but I didn't this time - just stared at the blasted clock till about 5ish. Then I must have drifted off, as I fuzzed my way through DH and DS getting up/dressed/leaving

I've only really just got up. And I don't want to be up!

mapletrees · 22/09/2010 10:59

Good luck saoirse, hopefully not long now...

Thanks for adding me to the list Park, and congratulations Chathappy. I too lost quite a bit of blood during my section and just escaped a transfusion, but after the first few days of feeling all washed out I've been recovering really well, so I hope you're as lucky. Are you having to do Clexane injections? I never thought I'd be hard enough to stick needles into myself - lucky I had plenty of fat on my belly to cushion them. :o

I had a bit of a crazy day yesterday. Louis is obviously quite a good feeder - he was 7lb 4oz when he was born, an had gone up to 8lb 8oz at 2 1/2 weeks, but yesterday he fed pretty much solidly from 10am until 5pm. I couldn't put him down for even a second and he would fall asleep feeding, only to wake up a few minutes later screaming at the top of his ever-strengthening lungs until I latched him on again. Then it was like a switch flicked and he fell soundly asleep about 10mins before DP got back from work (of course it was my 1st full day alone with Louis) and has been the most chilled out and sleepy he's been ever since Confused Has anyone else had something like this?

parkj83 · 22/09/2010 11:21

Hi Maple you're welcome :)

I had a similar problem with DS, but that was when he was very first born, not at 2 1/2 weeks!

Is he definitely feeding or is some of it comfort suckling? Would you consider a dummy?

parkj83 · 22/09/2010 12:51

getting strong squeezes avg 2 mins apart... is this it???

Cluds · 22/09/2010 14:23

ooooh parkj83 sounds like it could be the beginning! Fingers crossed for you.
Congrats to everyone who has had their babies! I am so excited for everyone.
Am now 2 days past my due date, saw midwife yesterday and she is coming round on Friday to do a sweep. Would be fab if it happens before then, but doubt it. Lots of movement going on - so much so that the little blighter keeps pinching a nerve and i have terrible sciatica whereby i end up on all fours in agony for a few seconds (quite embarrassing in the middle of sainsbury's, saying "no, it's not labour!). I guess that means that the baby is trying to move into position?! Am 2/5ths engaged, which I have been for the past 4 weeks, and means nothing to me?! (You'd think i'd know 3rd time round!). If i was 4/5ths would that mean i was nearer labour or further away??
Will stop rambling now, but am bored, bored, bored. Off to watch DS1 in footie match now!
Good luck everyone.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/09/2010 14:30

Exciting news saoirse86 and parkj83, fingers crossed for you both.

I am having sleeping problems too, I'm knackered but when I go to bed I can't sleep. I manage to fall straight back to sleep once I've been up feeding Luke, it's just when I first go to bed :(

I would have to agree mapletrees that it does sound like he's sucking for comfort rather than feeding but you will be able tell if you can hear him swallowing regularly while he's latched. My first spent a lot of time latched as midwife told me to leave him as long as he wanted but I was in so much pain I started taking him off once I was sure he'd finished actually feeding and he got used to it quickly. Still put on weight very well so I never felt I was depriving him!

JodeyLea · 22/09/2010 16:45

I echo cinnamon when I say how very exciting for u saoirse and park. looks like we won't be meeting in BWH as still no signs for me. I have been feeling a little bit sick today and still getting occasional period like pains but that is it x x

good luck ladies x x x

Chelle1986 · 22/09/2010 16:54

Hi all, 2 days overdue today and midwife came and did a sweep earlier. Little uncomfortable now, with a tiny bit of a show and bleeding - but hopefully things will start moving along now!

Sweep was uncomfortable Cluds but didn't hurt - just to reassure you for friday!

Cervix still posterior and baby still bobbing in and out of pelvis a bit - but as soon as she started doing the sweep she said he bought his head right down to her fingers and she could feel the membranes etc - she even said she thought she could feel hair!!! How odd!!!

Park - hope you are well on your way - sounds promising!

40+2

Dixiebell · 22/09/2010 16:59

cluds when the midwife puts 2/5ths it usually means she can feel 2/5ths of baby's head - i.e. the other 3/5ths are engaged in the pelvis, and therefore not feelable! So you are more engaged than if she was saying 4/5ths, if you see what I mean! I'm 2/5ths too, but had no idea if this meant labour imminent or not. Sounds from your experience as if not! I'm quite enjoying a bit of relaxation time, so wouldn't mind so much, if only I could sleep for longer than an hour at a time (hip pain). Ho hum. I've been ordering furniture and bedding (non baby-related!) online today though, so not all bad. Although all to be delivered in the next 10 days or so, so let's hope I am actually at home when it arrives to take delivery of it...what are the chances?!

39+3

parkj83 · 22/09/2010 17:04

Argh! potential false alarm :(

Been to see mw, but contractions are not strong enough to be established labour. Ugh. Had an exam, and I'm 2-3cm dilated, had a stretch and sweep to see if that'll help things along.

watersprite · 22/09/2010 18:29

Congratulations new arrivals ;)

Just a quick update, Maria-ann arrived safetly in the early hours of Tuesday morning (21.09.10) weighing 6lbs 12oz was (39+1). will update more soon :)

Cluds · 22/09/2010 20:07

thanks Dixiebell that makes sense to me now. I've ahd the hip pain too, which is a real pain at night isn't it - lie on one side until the hip hurts, then turn over and lie on the other until that one hurts......repeat often until morning! Argh! Internet furniture shopping sounds much more fun!
parkj83 Noooooooo am gutted for you. Only switched on computer to see if there was any news from you! Am sure the sweep will make things start happening though so fingers crossed for you.
And huge congrats to watersprite Hope the labour was ok?

parkj83 · 22/09/2010 20:27

Thanks cluds, still getting regular-ish squeezes, so nothing much more to report from earlier. Oh I'm getting more and more frustrated! lol

Congratulations watersprite :) I echo Cluds that the labour was smooth?
