Here's the new thread for the September 2010 arrivals - though some babies have already come in July and August, and maybe more to come in August before we're done with this month...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skyeplusbump · 03/09/2010 14:54

off to see the mw at 4,too see what he heck is going on...she said i sounded really fed up,even though i was putting on my chirpyest-im-just-fine-not-at-all-a-wuss voice, this is my default setting when on the phone,i cant help it,it's weird.

so hopefully i will at least know if this is labour or not within a few hours...and she said she'd try to 'speed things along' if i am in a long latent phase,i assume she means a sweep?!

cinnamon i seriously have no idea how you are still looking after all those kids! i can barely look after my own!Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 03/09/2010 16:30

Good luck skyeplusbump, let us know how you get on. I am going to bed very early and they are playing a lot on their own, with me watching from the sofa :(

skyeplusbump · 03/09/2010 16:47

okay, just got back from mw,she said i was 2-3cm dialated and cervex was long but soft,so she did a sweep...now i wait.
i got a show as soon as she'd done it,and a bit more now im at home so we shall see,i'll keep you updatedGrin

Dixiebell · 03/09/2010 16:54

Good luck Skye, I can't wait to 'meet' little Arlo. My Arlo will be a few weeks behind....but just realised we are both in N.Hampshire, perhaps our Arlos will become friends one day..!

I am enjoying my first day of maternity leave - so far have had my hair cut, eaten lots of chocolate hobnobs, read book in the sunshine, watched Britain's Next Top Model...bliss! Also been to MW, who said that she can't tell which way bubs is facing because my stomach is like a washboard Hmm. Never was before I was pg! She had to prod really hard before she thought she could feel the head at the bottom, but said it was really far back. Dunno what this means, if it means I will have trouble in labour, or he's likely to be back to back, or will have lots of back pain...?? Anyone had this experience? Was really hoping she'd be able to tell me which way baby is facing, as I've had no luck guessing what the flailing bumps that keep poking out of my belly actually are...

Good luck Skye!

I'm so sorry Cluds about your burglary. That is a dreadful thing to happen at any time, but happening now is just terribly unfair. I do hope they can recover your sentimental items.

Park and Skye, I have utter sympathy for you having a long latent phase. However natural childbirth is, sometimes the body just doesn't do it in the most helpful way, and it is exhausting to have days of contractions. I hope adrenaline keeps you going.

Dixiebell, my ds was back-to-back, and my midwife hadn't mentioned this, but my aunt, who's a retired midwife, diagnosed it over the phone by asking where the kicks where. With him I could clearly see two feet sticking out at the top of my tummy, and from that she knew that he was back-to-back. If you get noticeable feet (I could tell his exact foot size from in there!) that might be a clear sign. However, they do often turn, so don't be too disheartened...

My ds was due to stay over for the first time ever at my parents' house tonight as a trial run for when I go to hospital, but I've just had a phone call to say that they're bringing him back now because he's too upset, and I could hear him chanting over the phone "time to go home now, I want to go home now". Made me sob! Will feel a bit better to have him back in the house though - I'm a bit of a sap, and even though he's two now, I feel quite sick whenever I'm apart from him! Hopeless!

Looking forward to hearing about the next arrivals Smile

oosa - re ds, a we found with dd that a little at a time worked well,so try to see this as progress, and do try again,dd is 2 as well and absolutley loves staying at grandpas now shes done it a few times...they do make a real fuss of her there though,my parents are less fun and shes not so keen on them...Hmm Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 04/09/2010 03:30

That's totally understandable ooosabeauta but he will cope when you're at the hospital so don't worry about it too much. Could you stay there with him in the next couple of weeks?

My DS was back to back Dixiebell and I had kicks all over my bump. Definately harder at the top, so feet and then arms lower down. This time they are all under my right hand ribs, only get shufflings in the middle as he moves around a bit and bum pushes up and across. If your baby is back to back definately look at spinning babies website as I know a lot of people who've turned their babies. My DS never turned and was born face up but my labour was induced and I spent a lot of it on my back being monitored which I'm sure really didn't help his position.

I'm up because I've been having cramping/contractions most of the night. Haven't timed them as I've been trying to sleep but have woken up 4-5 times now with them. Finally got out of bed as I kept waking DH and was really hungry! Have eaten and had a couple of paracetamol so going to try and get back to sleep if I can as this may be it Grin

ThatDamnDog · 04/09/2010 10:02

Very exciting skye and cinnamon, keep us posted!

oosabeauta, it must be really tough to know he's upset ... I agree, little and often will help (use chocolate as bribery if you need to!). He will be fine though, they're hardy little creatures. :)

I'm feeling a lot better today. Called the ward for advice again after I'd posted here and they asked me to come in, so basically we spent the entire day in the car dropping DS off and getting to hospital and then sitting in a windowless room for 4 hours to be told it was just my muscles separating (he didn't quite say "man up and get over it" but the inference was there!). I couldn't even stand up straight, it's properly, properly sore! Anyway, I've since had loads of sleep (despite also having a spitting temperature last night, whatever DS has infected me with has left me covered in a rash and boiling hot) and just lying down and taking all the weight off my bump has helped loads. A day of taking it easy I think. DP has been an absolute star, really patient and generally wonderful.

36+6 - the thought of another month of this makes me want to weep so here's hoping it's here pronto!

comixminx · 04/09/2010 10:44

Hi all, I haven't yet caught up with the thread - though I did see patito's post about Maia Grace, lovely stuff! Our little girl Aphra was born at 00:50 on 2nd Sept - we transferred to hospital for the last bit of labour due to an alert on my blood pressure, though actually all was fine and we suspect it was just because the latent stage had gone on long enough that I was in quite a lot of discomfort overall.

Will update the list separately.

Oooo big congrats comix!! Great name too. Bet you are relieved.

Seems like a lot of people are having real stop starts:hope it works out for you all very soon. Personally I am not holding my breath, due to claim to fame of previous arrivals bang on due date Grin, despite people saying 'oo I don't see how you will last up til then' every time.

Well, I do, and have a feeling this will be no different! Which is why I don't bother with pineapple, shagging or the like, as I am totally resigned to going loopy for a while longer. Wink
So, another 5 days then..tut.

Good luck all.

Congratulations comixminx! Beautiful name too - hope you are recovering well.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/09/2010 12:13

Congratulations comixminx!!

After being up most of the night, with contractions finally getting to be every 10mins, they totally stopped at 8am. So I am now fed up and knackered :(

Was wondering about Jaysfourth today, not heard from her in a while. Hoping you are feeling better about your birth if you are reading the thread and not posting.

Congratulations Comixminx! Well done you, and welcome Aphra Smile

parkj83 · 04/09/2010 12:40

Congratulations comix :) I echo debs, it's a lovely name, but where's it from? :)

As for me, OMG, I'm sleeping like a log till about 5.30-6ish, then needing to pee, then cat-napping till it's time to get up. I'm tired, but not tired IYSWIM Confused

I had whopping great squeezes yesterday when I picked DS up from school, enough to stop me in my tracks, but when I got home, and sat down for a bit, they stopped... Argh! I haven't got the energy to walk about for hours on end! Although my SPD has eased quite a bit though - that does help massively, but not with my energy levels.

I was talking with my mum this morning, and we're starting to think it's going to be a case of waters break, and out pops baby. Not much warning basically. My body is putting in so much work at the moment, my cervix has to be doing something! Like skye's when she was checked by the mw last, mine was long and soft, and about 2cm dilated. That was on Weds. I've had one serious session of squeezes on Thursday, and strong, sporadic and painful squeezes yesterday.

DH is working on DS's bedroom atm, trying to sort out where best to put the cot and things, but we're planning on popping out later... maybe it might kick off then?

Would be odd if it were born today though - it's my wedding anniversary! Some present! DH was very sweet yesterday, he bought me flowers, a card, and some books too :) Thankfully, I'd ordered his pressie in advance and it was delivered, wrapped, today. He loves it - a digital photo frame on a keyring.

Stickhasgrownup · 04/09/2010 13:35

Hi All

Just a quick post to say...

Isabelle Grace was born yesterday, 3rd Sept, at 10am.
I had her at home, as planned and somehow managed to get away without having any stitches!
She weighs 8lbs 9oz and is feeding very well Grin

parkj83 · 04/09/2010 15:51

Wow! Congratulations Stick I'm really pleased you managed to have her safely at home :)

And well done you for not needing stitches! Wink

Dixiebell · 04/09/2010 16:37

They're popping out left right and centre now, aren't they?! Seeing all the births on here is making me feel like I'll be any day now, although still 3 weeks to EDD, and thought of poss another 5 weeks in total is a bit Confused. MW also said not at all engaged yet, so definitely not imminent! Thought I'd update the list in case we lose track, but mummies, please add any details I've missed...

comixminx · 04/09/2010 19:45

Dixie, thanks for adding that in! One-handed typing with a baby attached is a new skill I will be gaining slowly...

For all those asking, Aphra is from Aphra Behn, 17th-century female writer who lived by the pen and spied for the court of King Charles II. Beautiful name, feminist aspirationism too!

Am a bit smug about the feeding as she seems to have cracked it fairly quickly, though time will tell of course. One NCT classmate was in hosp with mastitis, eek! Their baby was born a week before Aphra - dunno how long they were home for before the mum was getting symptoms (incl paranoia). Sounds very nasty.

OP posts:
comixminx · 04/09/2010 19:50

Link for Aphra Behn, now that I can type two-handed briefly.

Congratulations Comixminx and Stick

Its all very exciting, I haven't posted since Oliver was born but check daily to see if there are any new additions!

Olivers doing well. I had latch problems so am now expressing. I had the same problem with Ds1 (that seems wierd! I have a Ds2!) but didn't have a decent pump. My wonderful cousin has lent me her medela swing and its fantastic! I am having to give him the odd formula top up cos I'm sometimes a bit behind on pumping!

We've got a visitor free day tomorrow & I can't wait. Some quality time as a family.

Good luck with all the twinges etc. Can't wait for more announcements!

Debs75 · 04/09/2010 20:09

More babies. yipppeeee
Congratulations stick
Can see from the list that there are quite a few overdue babies to be born so come and get a wriggle on.Wink

mellymooks · 04/09/2010 20:47

Congrats comix and stick keep on coming babies!!

Had some quite strong twinges on and off today but not reading too much into them.

The next week isn't that great for childcare for our DD so would be better if he stayed in til at least next wknd now......you so know I shouldn't have said that eh?!

Congrats Comix and Stick! Its all fun and games now!
Thanks for the support cluds. I have been very hormonal I have to say. usually am a very practical person but the past two weeks have been ridiculous. I do think that days my blood pressure is really low are worse tho.
Oosa my two had a dry run at mums last night too. She only lives 5 mins away (as does other granny) so they are well used to the place. But I waited until my brother and his family were down so mum had help too and the boys felt they were having a sleep over with their cousins which was even more exciting. The eldest wants us all to move there for 'ever and ever' now! They are 4 and nearly 3. so we have been prepping them for a while. Nana recording some of their favourite shows (which I only let them watch there to keep novel) stocking up on food they like etc but also bought cool bedclothes for 'their beds in nana's' which they love! A little OTT I know but I will be away for at least 3 days. and it will help after if they can be down there odd days and the youngest can nap.
Im hoping against hope that I will go myself. Feeling lots of funny sensations but nothing lasting. Wich I knew what to expect!!

ooosabeauta · 04/09/2010 22:28

Congratulations stick and comixminx!!

MammyG all the prep for your boys staying there sounds very wise, and I'm envious that yours have been ok with it. My ds gets very excited about going to my mum and dad's house, and is there a couple of times a week, but has never stayed over away from me, and he's going through a really 'homey' phase at the moment. I said to my dh earlier that I think he's caught my nesting hormones! For the last two weeks, wherever we go, he soon starts saying 'it's time to go home', and won't relent until we're on our way back. All he wants is time in the house, playing and dancing, with me sitting on the floor really close and holding hands!

Cinnamon and ThatDamnDog you're right, he will cope, and he really adores my parents, but it's just awful when he's upset. For the labour we're now thinking they'll come and stay here, and my dh can come home to settle him to sleep perhaps as the hospital's very nearby. All depends what the labour's like!! Confused

MammyG I think you're right about the low bp making your mood less stable (well, not you personally, IYSWIM). When mine has been very low I've found myself sitting on a chair in the supermarket sobbing because I can't get round! It's very embarrassing, but it can make you feel really vulnerable.
