Hi all

I've been away for three nights and after trying to catch up with everyones posts feel like i've been away for ages!! Lots of people seem to have popped by in the last couple of days!

So nice to hear everyones news/updates/worries and thoughts!

I have my 20 week scan on Wednesday and it can't come soon enough. I'm not sure if I mentioned last week but I am worried that I don't think I feel the baby move. I have read so much that says you should be able to feel your second baby move earlier than your first but I am sure I felt movement earlier than this last time. I might be worrying over nothing but you can never be complacent when pregnant unfortunately.

I am contemplating finding out the gender this time but might wait till my later growth scan as if I do I don't want to tell anyone. 20 weeks is a long time to keep a secret for my DH! He is bound to let it slip! Grin We didn't find out with DS but I think I feel differently this time.

For those of you asking about antenatal classes I posted a couple of weeks ago about my experiences last time so I won't bore everyone again but briefly we did both NCT and NHS ones last time and both were invaluable in their own way. I don't think we will be doing any this time but I have been invited to a VBAC class by my MW which should be interesting Wink. Who knows how this DC will make it's appearance!

No leaking for me (yet) but I can remember looking down in a meeting last time and wondering what I had spilt on my top then realised it was my boobs leaking Blush - v embarrassing!

Just realised this is turning into an essay so will go now. Oh 1catherine maybe we should swop shopping venues - I am having the exact opposite problem. I am only 5'2" (and a half!) and find all maternity trousers way too long!

Anyway, hi to everyone and welcome to new ladies. About halfway there for us...

EvianBaby · 16/10/2010 20:52

Forgot to mention I have also been worried about DS and how he (and I) will react to the new baby. It is on my mind constantly however my DH (and others) keep reassuring me that everything will be fine. It is so hard to imagine how I can love another child as much as I love him. This might sound ridiculous to some people. I'm sure I will but it's just hard to contemplate at the moment. I also don't want him to feel pushed aside. On a practical note I can remember how time consuming breast feeding/general newborn care was with him and do wonder how I will make room in the day for two?!? It will be interesting to see our posts/thoughts in March/April to see how we are coping!

Great idea to make a box of new/interesting toys etc. Might try that myself! Thanks!

Muser · 17/10/2010 19:26

Evian don't worry about movement. I had it and lost it just before the 20 week scan. Baby is still there, just shifted position. Now it's shifted again and I have the movement back. I bet yours just turns out to be facing inwards or something. Good luck on Wednesday.

Can't advise on siblings, but my parents seemed to love all of us equally, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

We had the same worries last time, it is so hard to imagine you could love anyone as much as your first child but I always remembered something I heard "your heart doesn't divide it multiplies" and that's the way it feels, you love them both so much and in different ways, so definitely don't worry about that, the love you feel for no 2 is just as overwhelming and wonderful as no 1.

Honeymoonmummy · 17/10/2010 21:49

Catherine, Next do maternity clothes in long. They don't have their maternity range in all their stores though.

Muser · 18/10/2010 07:48

Lia lovely to see you here! Congratulations on the girl and good luck for your results.

Best wishes to those having scans today!

superpenguin · 18/10/2010 11:05

Hello all.

Not had any boob leakage yet!

Welcome to lia66

honeymoon sorry to hear about your SPD.

Well I did a bit of googling on my baby's potential foot issue after checking what they had written in the notes, and it is called talipes (also known as club foot), there is a good page on the NHS website about it here:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/talipes/Pages/Introduction.aspx
Anyway, I phoned this morning to make my repeat scan appointment and they can't fit me in this week so I am going back next Tuesday, the 26th. Hopefully we will find out then whether baby has this or not. I'm not too worried though, of all the things that can be wrong with a person it doesn't look too bad.

Good luck for everyone else having scans this week!

bollandbear · 18/10/2010 11:48

Hello!

Got my scan on Thursday. Going to find out the sex but they got it wrong last time (classic - my son's first picuter is in a sweetie pink babygro) so I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

Goind round in circles trying to find an NHS antenatal class in Hampton TW12. Looks like they have all been cancelled. The one isdid in 207 was so good and met a new best friend at it. Can't bring myself to pay NCT £267!!!!

Think I will just join a yoga/pilated class instead and out a flyer up!

It anyone else appalled at the lack of free antenatal classes? Is it any wonder PND is on the rise....grumble grumble

God luck for all with their scans.

I am due 5 March (ish!?) and have a 3 year old son.

TooImmature2BMum · 18/10/2010 13:54

Hello people, can I join? I'm 20+4 with first baby, due on 3 March. 20 week scan tomorrow morning! Grin I am definitely going to find out the sex and am starting to get really excited now. I think it's a boy, based on not very much at all, but I don't mind one way or the other. It would just be cool if I turn out to be right.

I live in Midlothian and I need to find out more about ante-natal classes too. The midwife gave me a list of local classes, but they are all smack in the middle of working days, and I work in Edinburgh and it will take me about 40 minutes to get to the classes and I would then have to go back to work again afterwards (having been gone for 2.5 hrs minimum). I've got an appointment on 2 Nov so I might ask her if it's possible for me to go to Edinburgh classes instead, except that then I won't meet local mums! I don't know anyone else having a baby - my friends haven't started yet and my work colleagues have mostly had them already. Which would you all do?

Larty74 · 18/10/2010 14:09

Welcome to lia66, bb and Too!

Too my scan is tomorrow morning as well and am finding out sex. I cant' bear it any longer. I have no inclination toward boy/girl, so don't know what to think really!

me23 · 18/10/2010 15:08

tooimature you are legally allowed paid time off for antenatal classes that includes reasonable time to get back to work etc.. they can't put a time limit on it.

1Catherine1 · 18/10/2010 15:48

me23 is right but then I understand where you're coming from. Sometimes it is harder to have time off than it is to just do your job. I know as a teacher at least arranging cover work is a mission especially when I have bright classes and don't know who's going to be covering. I would say though if I were you I'd be wanting to meet local mums rather than those in Edinburgh. It would be easier to meet up when you're on maternity leave or just casually. It might be worth the effort.

bollardbear That is some expensive course. Mine is half that! (£130-ish).

Good luck everyone with their scans! Can't wait to hear all the good news and for anyone who might share the sex of the baby with us would be nice to know. Mine isn't for another 2 weeks.

Quick question... suddenly I'm really thirsty every night and either I drink before I go to bed and wake up at 5am to pee or I don't drink before I go to bed and wake up at 5am gagging for a drink. Anyone else experiencing this or should I be worried? I guess this could be payback for sleeping through the night in my first trimester :(

jammiedodger2 · 18/10/2010 15:56

Hiya
Very exciting package arrived this morning containing some babygro's!
Trying to spread things out a bit so starting to pick up a few bits and pieces.
Scan isn't until 2nd and we won't be finding out whether we have a blue one or a pink one, we didn't with the other two.
So babygro's are neutral and bright colours!
Catherine , I know what you mean, has been going on with me for about 6 weeks. I try and drink about a pint at 7pm and that seems to get me thro the evening and let me sleep but I don't always remember.
Baby bouncing on my cervix today I swear, feels very weird!
love to all
jx

bollandbear · 18/10/2010 16:46

tooimmature

it's true you are legally entitled to the time off. could you work from home on those days? do try to do it and put yourself not your employer first if you can...you won't regret it. i can see it could be harder for some folk depending on the nature of their work. good luck.

sittinghippo · 18/10/2010 17:06

Hello ladies, lovely to hear about the next set of scans coming up, all getting a bit exciting now isn't it. I have my scan this Friday when i will be 20+2. Wont be finding out, didn't with the last one so wont again. Have gut feeling it is a boy but this is based on absolutely nothing.

We will have to update our due date lists with pink/blue/baby once we've had the scans.

Welcome tooimmature, good luck with choosing antenatal courses.
I am quite lucky (South East) as the Sure Start centre round the corner from me run an NHS course, 2 evenings and 2 afternoon sessions so should be easy enough to pop along to those.

jammie how exciting for you. I'm not bothering much with new stuff, as it is baby no. 2 i still have all the neutral newborn kit stored in the bedroom. I am looking forward to digging it out and reminding myself how dinky it all is though.

We have had a busy weekend decorating the spare bedroom for DD to move into, hopefully long before new arrival, as need to free up the nursery. I have read it is best to get existing DC into new room well in advance so they dont feel like they've been booted out the way for the new baby??

DD is very excited to be getting a huge pink bedroom so i dont think i need to be too worried.

Hope you are all keeping well and so looking forward to hearing about all the scans. Smile

JoJoB77 · 18/10/2010 17:08

Afternoon ladies

Hope you are all well and blooming nicely!

I am good although still very tired once the clock strikes midday. I'm sitting here supposed to be doing work but all I can think about is 5.30 and starting the journey home and bed!

On a positive note, I've started feeling movement! Woop! It's quite faint and very random but definitely that popping feeling I've been told about. It's lovely Grin

I wanted to ask you all, have you had or been offered the flu jab? My friend is due the same time as me and she has just had hers on the advice of her GP. I just wondered what your thoughts were before I decide whether to have it?

1Catherine1 · 18/10/2010 17:53

Not so much offered more I requested it. I think good advice on the flu jab is if you're high risk of getting flu get the jab, otherwise feel free to just play it by ear and see how many people around you start getting it - decide then.

Since I work with germ ridden teenagers I knew I was safest to get the jab because whenever there's a bug around I'm guaranteed to get it. Ask your GP or midwife though because my clinic was unclear on whether I needed it but my GP said that he always thought it best that teachers were vaccinated anyway.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 18/10/2010 17:55

Hello all - and welcome recent joiners.

Just back from scan and all looking good! Ten fingers and toes, heart, spine, kidneys, stomach, palate and brain all look fine. So, so sweet - if not very cooperative! Even saw it (asked not to find out sex) suck it's thumb!!!

Feeling so overjoyed!

Best to everyone else and good luck for your scans.

Xx

Medee · 18/10/2010 18:51

good news, NPAFO.

Muser · 18/10/2010 19:09

Great news NowPanic. It's full speed ahead now!

I had my repeat scan this evening, which we went private for as the NHS one was so awful. It was the most amazing experience and worth every penny. We got talked through everything and felt able to ask questions. The sonographer was lovely and gave the impression she was just as excited as us. And we got some 3D views as well. I feel so much happier and excited, I just felt flat after last week's scan.

Everything is fine with the baby, currently weighs 400g and bounced happily through the scan.

Medee · 18/10/2010 19:18

excellent news, Muse!

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 18/10/2010 19:24

Muser - great news. Were we at the same place?!? My sonographer (also private - long story!) kept saying things like "I've done thousands but it is such a miracle and so exciting every time". Couldn't believe an hour (baby not cooperating and hiding head in my pelvis) went so quickly.

Is it me or was the 3D really hard to work out what you were seeing?!? Printouts are amazing though Smile

Muser · 18/10/2010 19:35

At points the 3D made the baby look like an alien or Gollum! I think generally you're meant to do that later on as the baby has a bit more fat on them so they're easier to make out. But we got some lovely images.

We went to the Women's Wellness Centre in Fulham. If anyone wants private scans in London I thoroughly recommend them.

OP posts:
NowPanicAndFreakOut · 18/10/2010 19:41

Muser - that is where I was!!! I'd recommend them too!

The alien thing did confuse me to start with - as she said "there's a foot" I was thinking "agh, my baby is not human!" Luckily it turns out it is!
