Hi all - not posted for a little while but have been keeping an eye on our thread and left a message for Spilt. I've now passed the 2 week miscarriage 'window' from having my CVS and saw my midwife on Tuesday and heard the heartbeat which was fantastic! Still doesn't stop me from worrying, but hoping I will relax a little bit after my scan on 9 November - which seems like an absolute age away! Am now 16+3 - definitely have a growing tummy which does tend to 'blow up' by the end of the day. Still suffering with sickness and very low blood pressure (have Addisons disease - rare auto immune disease) so docs have signed me off work yet again and I'm trying to rest on my good days. DS was 5 at the weekend and we felt able to tell him he is going to be a big brother and then he told the rest of our family and friends. He was delighted and can't wait to help when baby arrives - though he definitely wants a sister called Milly! It's been really difficult keeping our secret from loved ones, but due to the bleeding and CVS we were so nervous. Anyway, its good to hear all your news - apologies for the long post - but I had a lot to say! Think I am feeling some movement - bubble type tickles. Love to you all x

mixedmamameansbusiness · 15/10/2010 11:59

Hello everyone,

Have been keeping up with everything.

Well my scan is on Wednesday. Very excited and apprehensive. I will be going by myself as DH is attending a parent child maths session with DS1 at school. A sort of good thing as he is desperate to know the sex and will I know actually tell the sonographer how much he would like a girl so better I jus ask and if they can tell then great.

Larty74 · 15/10/2010 13:06

Nice to hear from you chickie and great to hear your news!

Lots of scans coming up next week - very exciting -take care everyone.

What's everyone up to this weekend? quiet here for us, I'm just getting ready for my trip across the pond.

1Catherine1 · 15/10/2010 14:48

This weekend I have to do some maternity shopping. I usually enjoy shopping but this week I'm on a budget since I have a large vet bill due :( Then I intend to spend the weekend sleeping!!!

Larty74 · 15/10/2010 15:23

Aaah, vet bills, we know about that. 2 cats, 1 puppy. neverending - but we love em!

KPidgeon · 15/10/2010 16:47

Hi everyone. I've got such a busy weekend ahead of having people over- the first 12-weeks of no-social life have left me with a big backlog of friends and family to catch up with!

Can I ask what people are intending to do about antenatal classes? I know there are a couple of threads on mumsnet already but as I "know" you all a bit better than other people wanted to have your opinions.

My close friend whose due now has been to the NCT classes here and totally rates them but I'm a bit worried about the cost when we're desperately trying to save for a deposit for a house. Are other people going for NCT? Or maybe the NHS ones?

Have experienced mums on here been to either in the past and got any tips on these?

I don't want to miss out on NCT if the information is invaluable but am very happy to read up any books I can find. Just scared I'll be totally unprepared for childbirth and breastfeeding if I don't attend it.

Thank you all!

Hope everyone is doing okay and have a lovely weekend.

I still can't feel any farts in the bath/bubbles/baby movement yet!

K

Muser · 15/10/2010 16:53

I'm doing NCT KPidgeon and will probably do the NHS ones as well. The main reason I'm doing NCT is to meet people. My SIL did NCT and is still, 5 years down the line, in regular contact with a lot of her class. I don't have any friends with kids, so if I don't make some I can see me spending a lot of time alone watching daytime tv!

It is quite pricey, but you can pay in installments and they do discounts for certain people. If you don't know many people with kids I'd definitely consider it.

OP posts:
Oceanbreeze · 15/10/2010 17:35

Also doing NCT here, for the same reason as Muser I don't have any local friends with kids, and as a first timer especially I think I'll need the help to retain my sanity Grin

On another note...anyone else got leaky boobs?

Larty74 · 15/10/2010 18:25

no boobs, but leaky other things when i cough or sneeze! already???!!!

gem3225 · 15/10/2010 18:41

My tummy is going crazy , lots of movements. It's quite weird.
This is my first so I'm assuming it's the bubs.

Going to a christening on Sunday, I'm godmother to lutle Zachary so I'm looking forward to it

Xx

superpenguin · 15/10/2010 20:29

Hello!
Well I had my scan! and we are naming this baby 'Awkward'!
Sonographer kept saying it was really difficult to check a lot of the things she wanted to check as the baby was in a funny position. Then she told me to go and empty my bladder as it was too full! (cue me traipsing down the corridor to the loo with my trousers round my hips, my belly covered in goo, my top pulled up and clinging blue paper towels to my middle!).
Anyway, good news is we could see all 4 chambers of the heart, also the spine, a little hand waving and various other things! However she thinks there may be something wrong with one of baby's feet, nothing serious, just that it looked turned in slightly, which if so they can correct after birth. Anyway she couldn't tell if it was just positional - so I have to go back next week for another scan so they can have another look.
Baby also moved a lot so it was really hard to get pictures, we only got one pic and it's really unclear.
...Oh and she thinks we are having a girl! :)

superpenguin · 15/10/2010 20:30

oh forgot to say I have booked on the NCT course too. Again mainly to meet more people as we don't know anyone with children who live in our area. Going to do the NHS course too.

1Catherine1 · 15/10/2010 20:39

Grats SuperP!! Although I don't think Awkward suits a girl very much. Maybe Fidget would suit her better? :) Glad there's nothing serious wrong. I bet that's a relief for you. I can't wait for mine!! 3 weeks today!

And I'm doing NCT antenatal classes too. Money is always an issue here after my OH and I survived on one income for too long in the "recession". But NCT classes needn't break the bank. If like me you have to pay the full lot just pay what you have to. They advertise their fee with membership, but if you can't afford the membership then you don't have to pay it to get on the course. Mine is costing about £140 (excluding membership) and since it starts in February I have chosen to pay it in 4 monthly instalments of £33. That way I secure my place without paying out too much at once. When I then get my Health in Pregnancy grant I'll pay off what's left. I'm expecting it before Christmas - which is good because I intend to buy all the big baby stuff before January's VAT increase.

niamh29 · 15/10/2010 20:42

Congrats superpenguin, its great to have a good scan, I'm sure the foot thing is minor if it's anything at all.

Isn't pregnancy fun with all the leaky bits, my boobs have leaked slightly every now and again but it's happened with the last 2 and never got any worse later on in the pregnancy. A few weeks ago I had a bout of leakiness in other places (sorry TMI but not wee, it was discharge) but it seems to have settled, weird!

So has anyone pet names for their bump or baby? I know someone who called their unborn "peanut" and another who called hers "baz"
What names have ye come up with??

lia66 · 15/10/2010 21:05

Hi everyone,

Am finally gonna brave it and get on a thread.

My stats are baby#6 due 24th March and found out Weds thats its a girl. :) That'll be our 4th girl, 3rd in a row.

This is my 10th Pg, 4 ended at different stages.

I know muser but don't recognise anyone else.

My thoughts are with you spilt and your family, Nature can be very very cruel sometimes, RIP little Bobbie and I hope you are getting lots of FL support. xx

I had Amnio on Weds and waiting to get results, hopefully Monday, the I can relax, ( Ihope)

Still feel like death warmed up, all day nausea, no vomitting, ususally ends for me about 5 and half month mark so fingers crossed this one will be true to form, I just wanna feel normal again, be able to breath freely and TASTE food. :)

Have good weekend everyone. :)

Honeymoonmummy · 15/10/2010 21:27

Hi Lia and welcome!
I didn't do NCT classes last time, I did the NHS course and went to a local pregnancy yoga class through which I met lots of people. I've heard the NCT classes are really good though.

I have SPD again, it started 2 weeks ago. I feel like an old woman all the time, had it last time but didn't realise what it was at first. For any of you first-timers out there, if your pelvis/ hips start aching it might be SPD!

My nausea finished at 14 weeks, I'm 18 weeks now, 2 weeks to the scan.

polkadottytotty · 15/10/2010 21:40

Hello everyone

Welcome lia - congratulations on baby no. 6 and daughter no. 4. How old are your other DC?

I havn't posted for a while apart from condolences to Spilt - didn't feel right chatting about being pregnant when Spilt and DH have been through such an ordeal.

I'm so glad things are looking good for Chickiewoo and Jeffily - and it's lovely to hear about all the 2nd scans.
Congrats on your girl SP - have you got any names decided yet?

I'm feeling okay - still very tired. DS1 was 6 yesterday so we've had lots of family visiting/birthday party etc going on, it also doesn't help that my 4 yr old DS has started waking up with nightmares in the night - am also finding work tiring. Everything's so busy at the moment I keep forgetting I'm pregnant!

I'm not feeling a lot of movement but think I can feel the occasional nudge when I get into bed at night.
I'm 20 weeks on Tuesday - looking forward to scan on 30th Oct. We really want to know the sex of the baby - but they don't tell you here in Shropshire and can't afford the private scan at the mo so just trying to be patient.

Very excited by all the scans - I want mine now, but it's not until the 25th. Congratulation superpenguin Smile

My bump is called "bibi" - it's DD's word for baby Smile

I'm getting quite bit of movement now on and off throughout the day, but am also starting to leak from (almost) every available orifice Blush

JeelyPiece · 15/10/2010 22:27

Thoughts still with you spilt, if you do pop into the thread.

I am heartened by mentions of leakiness, I've been so damp in the knicker department the last few days I called the maternity ward this afternoon and she said it sounds like normal pregnancy productions. Still a bit anxious though.

Good to hear about all movements starting to be felt, not quite there yet myself I don't think (18 weeks today).

Jupiter118 · 15/10/2010 22:39

Hello

Good to hear about scans and movement (the underwater fart feeling ;-) ). I too am anxious for my scan, but 2 weeks 6 days to go. If all is well and we get the opportunity we will find out the sex - largely to manage DS' expectations. We found out with him, but not at 20wks - additional scan at 28wks and found out then.

Boobs - think minor leakage as there is usually white crystally stuff on them by end of day - same happened last time, by the end had to wear breast pads. Also (and sorry if TMI) if sneeze violently then leakage. Is it too late to try and sort out pelvic floor?

Did NCT last time - nice group, but only see a couple of them now. However, also met really really lovely friends at pregnancy yoga and baby yoga - still see them every few weeks now 4 years on. Plenty of opps to meet fellow mums - playgroups often have baby areas as well as class type things - yoga, music etc.

Happy weekend everybody!

Larty74 · 15/10/2010 23:10

We are calling ours Sweep. as my cat's called Sooty Blush

mixedmamameansbusiness · 16/10/2010 09:13

I have only ever done NHS classes, they werent great for meeting people in my area but I made sure toget out and about after baby arrived so there will be plenty of opportunities to meet people.

If you are worried about being prepared I have found the NHS ones perfectly adequate for this and like you I do a lot of reading and research to try to make informed decisions for myself so I dont feel I missed out, however if meeting people is veyr important and you feel you may not get out or be very goo at meeting people with a newborn then NCT sounds like it is well worth the investment and with the installment plan it sounds like good value.

sittinghippo · 16/10/2010 15:00

Hi all, not posted for a while but been keeping an eye on the thread. Condolences to spilt thoughts have been with you.

I've just felt the need to post after reading about leakages!!
Larty74 Regarding wee, if I cough or sneeze then yes it can be a right pain! I have read that it is not due to the baby pressing down yet, or a weakness in the pelvic floor, but more to do with the hormones making everything down there a bit 'relaxed', I hope this is true as I have had the leaky problem since about week 3...

Another thing that is irritating me a lot at the moment is if I sneeze suddenly I get the most horrendous cramps in my womb- ouch not pleasant. I really have to brace myself if I feel a sneeze coming on.

As for leaky boobs, to all you first timers- this is nothing compared to the leaking after baby arrives Think sleeping on towels and stuffing your bra with heavy duty sanitary towels.

1Catherine1 · 16/10/2010 19:28

Thanks sittinghippo, if labour, sleepless nights and massive 24 hour responsibility wasn't enough to scare the hell out of us, just add constant leaky boobs. :(

Well today I went for my first maternity shopping trip and learnt 2 very important things.

  1. Woman around here must not actually get pregnant just have their babies delivered by royal mail or something since the closest maternity shop is over 20 miles away.

  2. A woman can either be pregnant or tall, not both. That is not an option when it comes to clothes at least. I have been forced to buy normal length trousers so tomorrow I have to go out and find the flattest of the flat shoes to not make it look like I'm wearing trousers 2 inches too short.
