I haven't got my bounty pack yet (the full one) didn't see one in the midwife pack.

will venture over to mohtercare and see if they have a print out.

Has anyone else started/kept up with any exercise?
I am debating whether or not to to Aquanatal classes that my midwife told me about and, as it will be a rush (Dh will hopefully have just got in) and I hate getting into a cossie, wondered if it will be worthwhile?
I think I need to do more than just walking with Ds as I am rapidly piling on the pounds!!!

RosiePosie · 07/09/2005 10:10

We've never had a baby bath - I've just topped and tailed for the first couple of weeks and then they've gone in with us. We still usually end up having a family bath time most evenings, although it's getting a bit squished now with one adult, a four year old and a nearly two year old in there - there'll be no room once the baby arrives

munz · 07/09/2005 10:14

LL - I have thought about it - might well take up swimmin again. normally just go up and down and have had to learn to slow it down,.

I had one of those little lilo things for DS1 - it was fantastic. Means they can just float in the water of the big bath, and their head and face is always out of the water. It was a little white soft thing filled with bean bag type polystyrene balls. can't remember where i got it.

I was having tennis lessons before got preg but stopped for 3 months (cos of the bleeding i was getting) but am contemplating starting up again...am I mad? I've never been terribly fit or active, but really don't want to veg away like I did with DS. Am thinking about yoga and/or aquanatal. Although I did try and swim when preg with DS and it felt really odd so I stopped it!

Think I just need to increase my walking.

Really weird that I cannot bear the thought of alcohol with this preg, but am loving caffeine...need to watch that one i think!

Munz
Phil and teds is a great make of pushchair.Great when you have two as they have a brill twin seat.Bit pricey though.A zooper is a pushchair which can be both a one seater and a 2 seater which im thinking of getting!!

munz · 07/09/2005 13:16

ok pop - no need for one of those for me yet!

Hi all.
Back from having my scan. Relieved to see just one in there, right size for dates & waving & wriggling. Had declined to have the NT scan but sonographer asked if we were sure as she could see something. Anyway the outcome is that my risk of Downs is 1 in 14 & trisomy 13/18 is 1 in 39. At this stage we're not having an amnio/CVS cos it won't change our minds. Trouble is the more I read the more confused I get. Sorry to lower the mood but I needed to tell someone else. Whatever will be will be & I'm thankful we've already got 3 happy healthy girls.

munz · 07/09/2005 14:17

glad all went well cat, did the lady say what she could see?

((hugs))

OP posts:
catj · 07/09/2005 14:23

It was the fluid behind the neck. Apparently it measures 3.3mm which I believe is a lot. Could be due to an infection-turns out my grandma has shingles so they've taken blood & are going to check or could be heart related (not so good either). Won't know properly until 20wk scan.

munz · 07/09/2005 14:25

well fingers crossed for u either way hon ((hugs)). not much use on the amnio i'm afraid.

catj · 07/09/2005 14:27

Thanks. Will keep you posted.

Lizzylou · 07/09/2005 14:35

CatJ, fingers crossed for you too, I have decided against the tripe test as I wouldn't have an amnio either so would be pointless, IYKWIM.

Hope all goes well, I have seen the wonderful posts Thomcat has made on your other thread as well.

RosiePosie · 07/09/2005 14:37

I guess you just have to keep in your mind catj, that the scan wasn't conclusive, and although the risks look high, there is still a good chance that things will be okay. Out of 14 babies born, 13 will not have Downs and out of 39 babies born, 38 will not have trisomy 13/18, going by the stats you were given. Small consolation I know. Good luck and fingers crossed that it will be okay. I'm sure you must be worried sick though.

catj · 07/09/2005 14:47

Thank you. I normally drift along quite laid back & then something will hit me. Trouble is I read too much-gonna have to stop

RosiePosie · 07/09/2005 14:56

That's the trouble with the internet - it's so easy to get hold of all this info! I'm terrible, always self-diagnosing.

newgirl · 07/09/2005 15:31

Hello all

Hi Catj - can the doc or midwife refer you to someone to help you talk through the information? Maybe a consultant at the hospital? I don't know how helpful that is but you may at least feel like you are in charge? I worry that sometimes info on the internet isn't always up to date.

Munz - I borrowed a baby bath and used it a few times but it always seemed to be in the way. The floaty white thing that dhw talked about was good - we used one of those. But I do have friends who just bob the baby in the sink now and then - they really don;t get that grubby - and you clean their face bottom etc all the time anyway.

dhw - my two will be the same ages as yours. I am thinking new maclaren buggy (ours is soo manky) and a board? Not sure yet. Hoping to drop hints to mil. Let me know what you go for in the end!

marne · 07/09/2005 16:17

Hi all,
Havnt posted for a bit so just thought i would say hi.
Im almost 13 weeks, still going slow but feeling great.Hope you are all doing well, good to here about all of your scans, im not having another until 20 wks as i had one at 8 weeks due to bleeding.
Also been looking at double pushcairs, wish i could aford a phil and teds they look great, we have bought a buggy board but i cant see dd using it (she hates standing up), the zooper looks good and you can get them cheep on ebay.

Munz, we bathed dd in the sink when she was tiny, seemed easier than using the baby bath, also she would get bath the bath with me or dh.

RosiePosie · 07/09/2005 16:56

Couple of nosey questions, because I'm bored!

What do you do job wise?( or did you do pre-children, if you stay at home )

How old are your other children if you have any?

Many years ago, after leaving Uni, I worked for a couple of years doing office admin for a firm of solicitors. Then I got pg and have been at home ever since ( nearly five years now, blimey! )

Thomas is four, will be five in December. He's starting school next week
Rosie is 22 months old.

catj · 07/09/2005 17:45

I'll answer your question RP cos I'm nosey too
My other children are 10 and twins of 2.
When I left school I was a groom looking after show jumping horses & then I mostly worked in retail until I had the twins & now I stay at home.

desperatehousewife · 07/09/2005 18:55

hi.

I left uni and got a job in Marketing - did variuos marketing jobs for blue chip companies then after 8 years got bored and took a break for 3 months while I sorted my wedding out! Then did PA work for a professor for 2 years which was lovely and gentle, then got preg. Haven't worked since (3 and a bit years ago).

Piffy · 07/09/2005 19:14

Hi everyone - thanks for the welcome and the positive vibes about the scan. I'm going to just tell them I don't know much and ask them for the idiot's guide as they do it - hopefully it'll be a nice person, better than the midwife who did not show up for my appointment last time. I know it's sad but I'm most worried about peeing on the floor as I am known for being a complete peanut bladder

Not doing too bad at the moment, though know what you mean about being in denial newgirl. DOn't seem to have anything to show for feeling carsick all the time, but hoping that the scan will make it all real.

Worst bit is not being able to tell anyone when you feel terrible, especially at work. Also finding many lies about why I am not drinking a bit difficult.

Since I'm also nosey I'll answer the questions though I'm a newbie! I'm 33 no kids yet, though 5 (count them!) godchildren that I dote on. I'm a consultant for an engineering practice so there are only 6 women in my office out of 150. You can see why the pregnany is being hidden at the mo! I also do quite a bit of travelling which is going to be a problem in the future, so not quite sure what I'll do about work once the babe arrives.

I'm also a northerner born and bred though I worked in London until recently. Currently repatriated to Cheshire, so there are a few of us north of Watford, anyway!

poppyh · 07/09/2005 19:18

In answer to nosey questions.
I am 31 years old and expecting my third child.
Was a single mum for 7 years after having my son, Myles,at 19.Met Hubby at work.Have daughter, lola who is 2 and a half.i am a full time stay at home mum these days.

Cadmum · 07/09/2005 19:49

Hello,

I am 34. Our children are 8 (DS), 6 (DD) and 3(DS2). I was a Montessori nursery school teacher (ages 2 1/2 to 6 in Canada) before having our first and since then I am usually caring for at least one other child because I end up taking pity on friends who need to go back to work but don't want their baby in a nursery from such a young age... I went back to work part-time in a Montessori school when I was pg with DS2 but I haven't properly worked since weeks before he was born.

Cadmum · 07/09/2005 19:57

catj: I am sorry that you are having such a rough time following your scan. It almost seems unfair that the sonographer gave you information that you specifically requested NOT to have... I am still feeling silly for having had the nuchal fold scan done because I know that I would feel the same way you do. How can you help but be upset about the possibilities...
I did read the responses from TC on your other thread and I think that she is such an amazing person.

Thank you all for your encouragement over the last few weeks especially. I am trying to remain positive as and worry as little as possible. I think I have cut down to 23.9 hours a day! I still wish that I had Fast Forward button to September 30th (my next appt.) because I feel as though it will be a relief to know one way or the other if this pregnancy will end this trimester in a medical fiasco or in March with a baby.
