I am useless at links but I will try once I have posted this. Are you sire they gave youthe right stata?

The Nicolaides group, basing on their findings in 1015 fetuses at 10-13 weeks with nuchal fold greater than 3mm arrived at the following risks estimates:

3mm -- 3 times

4mm -- 18 times

5mm -- 28 times

6mm -- 36 times
the incidence by maternal age.

The incidence of Down syndrome at the age of 35 is around 1 out of 270. If the fetus has a nuchal skin fold of 6mm the risk of Down syndrome would have become 270/36 or 1 out of 7.5.

Cadmum · 07/09/2005 20:16

I found that info here I am so sorry that you have this worry.

Frizbe · 07/09/2005 20:55

Hi all, Catj, try not to worry, sure all will be ok {{Hugs}}
Munz yesterday was the 1st time I felt this bump kicking so 15+2 wks!
Re the bath, don't bother! luckily we borrowed one, and as dd ended up in a pavlik harness for 6mths, we weren't even allowed to bath her for the 1st two....(yuk) and then she was only allowed out, quick splosh and straight back into harness for the remaining 4mths.....anyway I found the bath a pain and rather small in the end, so we got a bath sponge from mothercare (baby shaped!) and we used that in the big bath, great idea, they're none slip and you have loads more room to manouvre!

DHW, this is no2, so I guess that's why I'm feeling the boot a bit earlier?!

Lizzylou and anyone else whose thinking about it I highly recommend aquanatal, they taught me all the breathing techniques I req'd for the birth there (wasn't covered at antenatal) and a few extras besides, which I'm convinced helped me give birth with not too many drugs! also met two of my mummy best mates from there! the place is a godsend, besides the keeping fit, will defo be heading there again this time.

Ah how much waffle from me tonight! better answer those q's as well!

Couple of nosey questions, because I'm bored!

What do you do job wise?( or did you do pre-children, if you stay at home )

I had a nice high powered managerial role for a major global logistics organization, with loads a money....now I have my own company, which I run on a part-time basis, earning hardly any money, whilst I look after dd! (I also help dh run his business too)

How old are your other children if you have any?

I have ss aged 7 and dd aged 22mths.

marne · 07/09/2005 20:55

Rosieposie, i'm 23, i have a 1 1/2 year old dd, 3 step kids age 12, 9 and 5. I am a fully trained chef but at the moment i am working in a small bakery part time making gluten and dairy free cakes. I will be returning to work after having no 2.

Frizbe · 07/09/2005 20:57

Oh sorry I'm 30! forgot that bit!

poppyh · 07/09/2005 21:08

Cadmum,
I was training to be a Montessori teacher when became pregnant with DS.Never finished my second year though!

catj · 08/09/2005 00:40

Cadmum thanks for that. I found it interesting cos she did say she could see the nasal bone on the scan. To be fair she did ask if we wanted to know & we agreed. We've decided not to strees about cos it'll only make us feel worse-we can't change anything and after all it is only an indicator of the risk.

Jackstini · 08/09/2005 09:24

Cat - sounds like you are on sensible thinking mode - fingers crossed for you all is ok. I have my scan later today and am a bag of nerves convincing myself something is wrong.

Friz - we are not far at all, I am Hucknall so only a few miles. Will def come to next meet-up, will keep an eye out. I am starting aquanatal with my SIL next week - really looking forward to it now. How exciting about your kicks!!

RP - re your nosey (lol) questions. I work in sales for an american nailcare company and run the UK (hence my boss being so worried about maternity leave!) Before that I worked in other beauty sales roles and was a travel agent for 9 years. Am 33 and this is my first baby

RosiePosie · 08/09/2005 09:47

Good luck with your scan, Jackstini!

desperatehousewife · 08/09/2005 09:52

who is it on here that has a doppler? Because I've just got one and tried it for the first time last night and found it really hard to use - ie: kept getting my heartbeat (what's it doing in my pelvis??!!). Then by chance found a fast heartbeat which was so lovely. Think i might become a bit unhealthily obsessed with this gadget!

How is everyone today?

Found some fantastic mat jeans yesterday am now wafting round feeling unrestricted and delicioulsy comfy. Bizarre that my clothes got too tight by about 6 weeks of preg, but weighed myself this morning just out of curiosity and haven't put on any weight. Weird?

munz · 08/09/2005 09:56

morning all - u're a chatty bunch right now! just a quick one as boss is about still out later thou anyhow

jack good luck today

dhw - yes I have one, got my heart apart from that nada really not too worried still feelin sick etc and boobs are heavy (thou not as bad) (have u noticed u can hear the TV as well thru it? - that's odd when u can hear most haunted thru ur tummy!)

will catch up properly at lunch time.

poppyh · 08/09/2005 11:08

Jack,
Good luck and let us now how it goes!

munz · 08/09/2005 13:44

ok then. just about here!

marne - hiya we missed u girl! hope u r doing well. (i'm also 23 YAY!!)

RP - i'm a trainee accountant, working for a pharmacutical firm, 23 and it's our first, DH is in the army and is 22 - my toyboy!

Piff - don't worry about thinkin ur gonna pee - I think we all feel like that durin scans - don't forget to get a pic. tbh it wasn't real for me either I was expectin them to say nope u're not PG, but luckily they didn't it made it real for DH as well - when do u go?

cadmum - good luck today hon. I find time passes quicker to work in 2 week cycles (or 3 weeks as this is when we get paid)

friz- we're nto gonna bother with a bath, but today am having a major how are we gonna cope day, mainly financially how will we get everything we need - hope this is normal?

Cadmum · 08/09/2005 14:38

I also have a doppler... Sometimes I really wish that I didn't because it is very stressful when I can't find it but it is SO LOVELY when I do! Just found it moments ago (with DH on the phone) so I feel fantastic!

Catj: It sounds like a really good sign that the sonographer saw a nasal bone. I think that makes the risk of DS considerably lower. You are very brave for listening to the results and still choosing not to have the amnio. Hope you are feeling somewhat better today.

Munz: Thanks for the well-wishing... I had no trouble last night so I will just call the High Risk Unit and see what they advise... At least I know that baby's heart is beating away in there. 154BPM this morning... Hope you get yours to work soon. It is really amazing to hear.

DHW: There is a thread somewhere that explains how to find the heartbeat. I am off to seach for it now... I would offer advice but I am useless with mine so not much help really.

Piff: Haven't said a proper hello before but WELCOME! I nearly did wee at my last scan because the sonographer had to push so hard to find baby in my tipped-back uterus.

Cadmum · 08/09/2005 14:41

DHW the advice ishere . HTH

Cadmum · 08/09/2005 14:42

Oh shoot! Wrong thread, sorry.

Lizzylou · 08/09/2005 14:49

HI all

Just to say hope you are all feeling OK, was up between 2am and 5am with our smoke alarms going off non-stop...it's a new house and there is some prob with the wiring! Was awful and a very sleepless and stressful time (esp with DS who would't go back to sleep!)...
Frizbe, am off to Aquanatal tomorrow so thanks for the encouragement as was thinking of not bothering!
RP, I am 32, have a DS who is almost 18mths and was (and still am 2 days per week) a Legal Recruitment Consultant, managing a team....but really want to be a primary schoool teacher...hoping to retrain in few years time..
Catj, Cadmum seems to have some good statistics for you that I hope put your mind at ease

Hope everyone else is OK xxx

munz · 08/09/2005 14:58

cadmum - glad u hear the heart beat honney. mine doppler says doens't pick up b4 20 weeks so won't try again till then.

Yeah Jackstini! I am so pleased for you! What could be better than seeing your bean and bringing home pictures?!? I will have to look and see what your due date was before...

Lizzylou · 08/09/2005 15:21

Go on, do it! Mine isn't that clear tbh (was v jealous of MUnz's!), the "show" we got to see was better than the stills, little minx moved when the photos were taken!
