swiperfox · 02/09/2005 19:21

I've got my first ante-natal appt at the docs on 22nd sept - but that's just with the doc not the m/w so if he's a bit nicer i'll talk to him properly. The doc I saw today was just a random doc but then we've only just registered there so don't know what any are like!!
Are you still in Portsmouth Munz?!

I didn't have any cheesecake either - i couldn't find one!! So that's tomorrows mission.

Dare I say ... the sickness has just about gone woohoo!!! But i've pulled all my muscles along where my cs scar is which is really uncomfortable. I guess those muscles are shot to pieces by now!!

poppyh · 02/09/2005 19:24

Now i could eat Bangers and Mash!!
DH is cooking a roast lamb dinner and I have to say it smells nice.I might have a bit of that.

RosiePosie · 02/09/2005 19:28

Swiperfox, I had no idea you were in Southampton, and Munz I had no idea you were in Portsmouth - I'm in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. I've lived here for two years, but lived in Southampton for many years before that . It's very annoying about there only being one standard scan in Southampton, isn't it? I was thrilled when I moved to the island and discovered I'd get a 12 week one! Are you having the baby at Princess Annes? I had my ds there. Whereabout's in Southampton are you? I lived in Hedge End, then right next to the old cricket ground off the Avenue, then right across the park from the central library in The Polygon. I still go back over quite regularly for the shopping!

swiperfox · 02/09/2005 19:32

Hiya I'm in Bitterne. We've only lived here 3 months so I don't know Southampton at all so will be handy to have someone to chat to!! I don't even know the name of the hospital lol
I'm planning to take dd on the ferry to cowes sometime soon - never been to IOW.
What is the hospital in Southampton like?

RosiePosie · 02/09/2005 19:34

Swiperfox, I would ignore everything your GP says and speak to your midwife about it, if you think you need a dating scan because of unsure dates, you should get one. If you can't wait to see your MW at the booking in appointment, how about phoning the Head of Midwifery at the hospital, or early pregnancy unit at the hospital. They will probably be happy to help. Most midwives in my experience have rather low opinions of GP's and they should understand your concerns and help you. I know of people who have managed to get scans with the EPU direct without having to go through the GP - you just need to be assertive, which is really hard sometimes I know.

Poppyh, I am still feelign rather nauseous, but much better than I was. Some days worse than others.

RosiePosie · 02/09/2005 19:38

Yay, I know Bitterne reasonably well. Any questions about Southampton, fire away! Erm. . Princess Anne's is a BIG teaching hospital, it has a very good reputation - an excellent Special Care Baby Unit. My own personal experience wasn't fantastic, but I think that was more down to it being my first baby and a long difficult labour than anything else. I know lots of people who have had nice experiences there . Seriously, phone the hospital direct, I'm sure they will be much more sympathetic than your GP.

swiperfox · 02/09/2005 19:42

Brill thanks I will see if i can get hold of someone a bit more baby orientated than a know-nothing doc to speak to! Still a bit gutted about the scan though. Do you think if i get in there and i'm a few weeks less than 17 weeks i'll get one again when I am 17 weeks?

RosiePosie · 02/09/2005 20:32

I don't know where he got 17 weeks from, I've had two scans at Princess Anne's and both were around the 19/20 weeks mark. That's the standard scan that everyone gets. I'm sure if you get a dating scan you will get your standard one too. The dating scan will purely be to date the pregnancy, the 20ish week one will be to have a proper look at the baby and make sure all is okay. I'll see if I can get hold of a number for you. In my experience, the maternity hospital is busy, but friendly and helpful. It's NORMAL to get an early dating scan if you don't know your dates - your GP is just being stupid.

swiperfox · 02/09/2005 20:38

He was a bit of a muppet!! Looked about 18 and rather clueless!! I was wearing a t-shirt that my dad sent me from oz saying 'rockers choppers' which is the bike club he's part of and the doc spent the whole appt staring at my tshirt lol

The whole reason I left going to the docs so long is because i knew i'd need a dating scan anyway - obviously he thought differently! Thanks for digging out the number for me if you find it - i'll see if i can find anything too

RosiePosie · 02/09/2005 20:40

Okay, the number for Princess Anne Hospital is 023 8077 7222 - this will get you through to the switch board I guess. I would ask to speak to the Head of Midwifery or the early pregnancy unit. I reckon if you explain what your situation is, that you don't know the date of your LMP, you have no idea how pg you are and your GP is being very unhelpful, they should be sympathetic - I really hope so! Good luck... The hospital is in a seperate building across the road from Southampton General, which is kind of Shirley/Lords Hill way - if that means anything to you!

munz · 03/09/2005 09:39

RP - u're on IOW! OMG yay fellow southerners! YAY!!! I live just outside the town in portchester (well mum still does) u can see to the island from her bedroom window (just about on a clear day)

SF - unfortunatly no i'm not in south wales, althou we're hoping to get a posting back to the blanford area (by sailsbury) not sure when dep on if DH gets his promotion this year. still we'll ahve to do a mini meet up once the beanies are born! YAY! southerners! Drama queens also from southampton (well lives there). I was going to suggest southampton general but don't know if they have a maternity unit there or not. (v v good childs dept thou v good)

pop - now about this roast lamb - can ur DH please come and teach my DH how to cook a roast? - bless him he does everything but! lol.

Morning ladies - read last few posts and making me really want chocolate cake and cheesecake for breakfast! Munz - I have also gone mad on spag bol - basically anything with mince in, chilli, cottage pie, lasagne mmmmm.
Re your question I only told close family/friends. Only told my boss after one of my buyers at work noticed (I was 9 weeks!) Recently I have not met anyone who has not noticed so the cat is well and truly out of the bag.. still 5 more sleeps & I will have my peace of mind & piccies!

munz · 03/09/2005 10:59

ooh might have to make one of two things for dinner althou I do fancy cheese/pot pie or meat and pot pie - can I use mince instead of corned beef?

OP posts:
munz · 03/09/2005 11:00

Um must now have Chilli Con carne!!
Hope everyone good today.
Munz was surprised and delighted with my roast lamb.DH followed my instructions really well.It was nice!

oldfool · 03/09/2005 13:15

Munz, just seen on another thread that you are in Pembrokeshire. That's where we were on holiday, and where the hospital was so much nicer than our local one.

munz · 03/09/2005 15:44

OF - not withybush - surely not there? there's uproar about that hospital locally they've clsed half the gyno ward down. and only deal with 'straightforward' delieveries (sp)

OP posts:
newgirl · 03/09/2005 16:17

How freaky I really fancied mince tonight so I'm cooking lasagne at the moment - we must be in 'needs iron' stage.

Munz! CE was spotted by my friend at work on Friday - he is filming in the law courts near where I work so I am going to hunt for him (in the nicest possible non-stalking way) next week!!! He was dressed as a monk and everything.

RosiePosie · 03/09/2005 16:44

I've just made a sausage casserole, yum!

Frizbe · 03/09/2005 16:54

mmm foood, we're having roast lamb tonight! yummy

Munz re the BF thing very good advice from all around I'd say! I managed to BF dd for 1st 6 mths, but after 3, started feeding her with an expressed bottle last thing at night, which made her drink more and sleep longer! yay! and then I gradually swapped her onto formula and got her off the boob....have to agree it does drive you up the wall to start with when they're feeding every two to three hours, but stick with it if you can, its worth it, for the cost and health benifits to baby, however also don't get pressurised into bf if your not getting along with it, as its not worth loosing your sanity over! (you'll also keep more weight on whilst BF, but will loose it rapidly when you stop!)

Hi to all, hope your having good weekends? we're off to brother in laws tomorrow, ah busy, busy!

swiperfox · 03/09/2005 17:07

Thanks ever so much for that number and info RP - will def ring them on monday and see what they say I'm fairly sure that one of the buses i get from bitterne into town says lordshill on it so will investigate!!

Shame you're not in Portsmouth munz! I didn't realise your dh was army - we moved to Southampton from Ludgershall - right by Bulford Camp so I know Blandford camp too My friends dp was based in Larkhill but they've been posted up to Newcastle so she's not amused!!

Didn't get my cheesecake today Went in to town and took dd to the big park and she fell flat on her face and cut all down her nose So we came home again with no shopping!!

I'm on the spag bol and chilli too!!!

munz · 03/09/2005 20:20

NG ooh u is he single! ? ark at me eh! lol, ooh he's yummy althou i'm currently droolin over aaron eckhert so u can have CE for the minute! - but in the intrests of good fan relations where r u based ie/ where's he filmin - should we meet up for coffee at say his staff canteen? lol ooh u lucky thing u! - don't forget now give him my phone number!

SF - u're army to? YAY! a fellow mad woman! yay!!! lol, we did want tidworth (as the houses are so good) but i've heard some bad stuff aboutt he camp at bulford for the wives about it being really bitchy and a lot of the marriages fail there - of course that's just hearsey and u know what that can be like! hope ur DD is ok. looked at cheese ckaes but decided against it cos of the soft cheese. I can wait - another thing to add to my list of stuff for DH to bring me in the hospital - we now have a soft runny boiled agg loads of soldiers - real butter hmmmmm, a cheese cake (whole one no scrimpin!) and er there was another thing - can't remeber it thou, ooh ahy that's it a nice big taboo and lemonade!

Jack - result on the meat and pot pie - ty v much I did it but wasn't too nice so as a result DH is gonna do it next week to show me how it's done - whta a result! he he he might have to do a few more bad cooked meal! {DH if u read this Love u! )

friz - oh I didn't know that with BF and weight I thought it came off? hmm all stuff to think about I guess.

think we're all in a mince stage now then? we've had the sweet sstage now mince - odd! he he
