I have given in to the dummy, he was in a right state from 7:30 til about 10 mins ago AND (fingers crossed) he's laying on the sofa on his own asleep!

I had to keep putting the dummy back in his mouth several times as he wasnt too sure of it and was just crying through it but in the end he was so tired he gave in.

Your right mlic I think I;d go insane if he could only sleep by being on me, I couldnt get anything done and was constantly trying to do things one handed!

Thanks for the support, Im hoping it may even help him sleep better at night too.

beckyg123 · 12/08/2010 21:35

DH sam is so much happier with a dummy- he is so chilled out with it- he just loves to suck! can go from screaming to happy just by giving the dummy! I realised quite quickly that he was using me as a dummy as he would just be sick after marathon feeds. I cried when i gave him it as i felt i was doing something weak and wrong (some sort of deap snobbery I think) but i'd much rather a contented baby!

stac i've got no idea if the baby book event at the library is on every week or not- going to meet violet there tomorrow so will let you know- i can't go next week tho as meeting up with the girl who was in the bed next to me in hospital :) we will get something else sorted i'm sure. It's at clarkston library.

Had a lovely day today- my niece who is 9 with adhd came to "help" me this morning while her mum was at work- we went to the park with sam and the dog and she ran wild with the dog and i strolled with the pram- weather was great and we all enjoyed it! dog has been crashed out all day!
Sam been in a great wee mood today, had a few long sleeps and long feeds but his awake time has been so intense and amazing- his eyes are so bright and alert :)

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/08/2010 08:16

becky I find it hard to tell the difference between him being hungry or just wanting to suck. This morning he fed furiously, then after I burped him he looked like he was rooting again so I put him back on and he fed some more but has pretty much brought it all back up.

He had a better night last night WITHOUT the dummy! I did try him with it but he didnt really want it, but he slept from half 11 til half 3, then til 5:45 then til about half 7 when I got out of bed as he's still awake now.

viksam · 13/08/2010 09:32

Gosh DH thats really good. Im totally bottle feeding now and not expressing any at all, just waiting for my milk to dry up.....all very sad but i do think i have made the right decision, im a lot less stressed and a lot less hurty!! the thing is i have a manual breast pump and most of a tube of Lanhosin(?) which is very expensive, can anyone make use of them, i would be happy to post foc of course. Im not sure id have cream from a stranger but Im very clean, to the point of OCD my DH thinks!
Becky sounds like u had a lovely day, I love watching Devon when hes awake and alert, he has some sort of knowledge behind those eyes im sure of it!
Did anyone else hurt their backs whilst in labour. I have really done something to my tail bone area, kind of middle of my bum. I felt and heard it 'crack' just before he came out and so did the MW!! And now its really sore, i hate the sofa as i cant sit comfortably on it and the car is even worse. Im gona have to go to the docs but just hoped it would right its self as my body settles. Its a real bummer (excuse the pun!) as everything else seems ok.
My DH goes back to work Monday so hoping to do something nice over the next few days. I feel sad that he has to go back, its been lovely having him home. Took Devon to the seaside yesterday......he slept the whole time!! I enjoyed it though!

I felt really guilty about giving Iris the dummy at 4 weeks but it was the best thing to do for both of us. She loves it...but I think I love it even more! Grin Apparently pediatricians in America recommend them now as it stops the baby sucking its fingers which can have a negative impact on their teeth coming in...it's also supposed to reduce the chances of SIDS. :)

See you this afternoon Becky - can't wait to cuddle Sam! Get there a bit early cos the car park is sometimes quite busy.

x

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/08/2010 11:47

Well he wouldnt take his dummy this morning :( so he slept for 2 hours on me, I didnt mind so much cos I went to sleep aswell but meant I couldnt put him down if I wanted to.
Maybe I didnt persevere enough but at some points he was looking like he was gagging on it so didnt want to force it.

Chulita · 13/08/2010 12:19

I love my bf group, we don't talk about bfing, we're just good friends and most of the ladies that go are lovely!

dh Sam's the same, he sleeps on me or not at all most of the time. Sometimes he takes a dummy, other times he won't. He was up every hour last night except for one 2 hour stint and that's when DD chose to scream. I ended up having to sit with her for a bit, then go and get Sam and sit feeding him while trying to calm her down...argh!

Why do you feel guilty about a dummy? If they're not screaming and not chewing your nipple off surely that's a good thing?

viks I'm so glad you're feeling happier!

I can't shift this bloody thrush in my nipples. Got a new pill to take but everywhere online says not to take it when bfing Hmm not sure what to do now. It's fricking agony when he latches and for about 2 hours afterwards. I'm so tempted to give up and bottle feed him but I know I can shift this, just have to work out how!

Emster30 · 13/08/2010 12:40

i was feeding j until 4am today - knackering! he has taken to pulling off the boob painfully now so my boobs are really sore again today. and i can't find my lansinoh which is around somewhere...

we had to have him in bed with us last night as it was the only way we were going to get any sleep at all. i put him down on the bit of bed i'd been on so it was warm and smelt of me, and then dh and i huddled on the other side!

beckyg123 · 13/08/2010 12:48

DH i found it difficult to decide whether sam was rooting for food or dummy but he doesn't settle with dummy when he's hungry- other times he sucks dummy in and is very content looking around himself! he now has a pattern of feeding every 3-4 hours so inbetween times i use dummy when he roots.

chulita guilt is due to some deep rooted belief that dummies are BAD! I've already had comments from the older generations in both families about it! personally i'm past caring- my boy feels safe and secure with it and my nips have healed! Hope you get rid of the thrush soon- ouch!

violet just getting a route planner, having some lunch, last minute nappy change and i'll leave! thanks for the tip on car park- will aim to be there sharp :) Oooh... lots of baby cuddles this afternoon! can't wait to meet Iris too :)

chulita and tsc looks like you have 2 very different groups! i'm planning to go along to one next week. Also HV gave me a leaflet on a breastfeeding cafe in glasgow- going to give that a shot on wednesday :) should at least get to meet some new people.

Anyone got any tips on breast feeding rugby ball style when out and about- i'm struggling without pillows! can't get him to latch on any other way.

beckyg123 · 13/08/2010 12:54

viksam sorry missed your post there- ouch to the sore back! hope the dr can help and its nothing too serious. I was a little sore from epidural but all gone now. Thanks, yes we did have a lovely day! glad you enjoyed the seaside :) my DH was just back to work on wednesday- its strange without him and he was so sad to leave but in a way its nice to have some time alone with sam!

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/08/2010 14:23

chulita I dont feel guilty as such, i dont know I guess I just always thought I could do it without but if he's happier with a dummy then thats fine.

em we sleep like that every night, I put him on my dressing gown on the sofa earlier and he slept for ages on his own. I think he likes to feel warmth and comfort around him.

becky I dont think Dylan has ever gone that long between feeds. Hes more like 2 hours at the most!

at my bf group i told the health visitor about the probs we;ve been having and she thinks it's thrush, so has prescribed us the stuff. i'm not totally convinced, but the pulling off the breast, the unsettledness, the shooting pains and the pain between feeds seems to fit. it would be good if it clears up soon!

Emster That sounds exactly like what was happening to me along with the very cracked and bleeding nips and the mastitis. I spoke to a lady doctor after id made my decision and she said i probably should have been treated for thrush too, makes me wonder wether i should have persevered but its done now and apart from some minor leakage im all dried up i think.
stac glad things are going well, i was reading about reflux and how its misdiagnosed as colic so its good that they have looked into it properly. New clothes and a night out, brilliant!!! Where will u go out, do u have a favourite place?
DH when he gets up do u swaddle him? I have been doing that in the cover that he has in the moses so that when i put him back down its nice and warm for him, also it stops his arms from getting in the way when im feeding and it does seem to keep him more settled too. I dont swaddle him in the moses though i think its too warm.
Isnt it weird that we feel guilty and think dummys are bad, why is that i wonder.
I have friends coming to admire my beautiful baby tomorrow so looking forward to that, although i think they are staying ALL day so scuppers any chance of a kip. Does anyone else feel sick with tiredness, at around 6.30ish i feel really sick, its strange.

Chulita · 13/08/2010 20:24

emster hope you get stuff to clear it, it's worth knocking it on the head soon if you can...

stac we're all going out to the shops tomorrow :) First time out as a family since DH's been working like a dog for the last 3 weeks and I didn't want to walk far after the cs cos it was quite painful. Nothing exciting though, I'm looking for natural breast thrush remedies so Holland&barretts it is!

viks I've been getting stupidly pounding headaches every evening just from tiredness. Still, we're halfway through the tricky 6weeks so it all should be getting better soon!

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/08/2010 21:09

viks he doesnt like being swaddled, I have tried but he likes his arms free, however when feeding I wrap the blanket round him the best I can so when I put him down its underneath him but to be honest he has a 6th sense and immediately knows when Ive put him down lol.

Hes sleeping on his own now on my dressing gown with the dummy and so far so good.

viksam · 13/08/2010 21:23

Chulita I cant believe he is 3 weeks and a day, its gone so quick really. Im trying to do the gina ford routine and he pretty much sticks to it in the day but come 7ish when he is supposed to go down untill 10ish he totally doesnt, he is really fractious in the evening and seems to want feeding a lot. Is the tricky 6 weeks for BF or for all babies?
Mylife I went to BF support last week and met a really nice lady there who i arranged to meet again this week but of course im not BF now so didnt go and I feel sorry coz i could have made a friend of her she was lovely. I do need to get out and get to meet some people as most of my friends and family are in Brum. Interesting what u say about rooting, so do u just persevere with winding untill it comes up?
