I thought I'd start a due May 2006 club even though its very early in the month for it.

My stats are

ME: 31
DH: 30
DD: 3 next week!
Next DB due: May 1st (4 weeks pregnant today!)

Just been to the docs to get it all confirmed and seeing the midwife tomorrow. Look forward to more of you joining me as the month progresses!

Actually, I expect to have an elective section after an emergency one with DD so db will probably be born at the end of April. But like the idea of a May thread nonetheless!

Alicats - I didnt find out the sex with dd last time until I was already 2 weeks overdue (had her 3 weeks overdue) and I needed to bond with the baby cos I thought I'd never deliver her so I'm glad I found out then. With this pregnancy, I was sure I was having a girl and that is what I wanted and my dd really wants a sister. I wanted to find out so I had time to adjust if it was a boy. I found out 2 weeks ago and I'm really glad I did because it is a boy. Actually I needed no adjustment because as soon as I saw him on the scan I loved him, but still glad I know what I'm having because he makes me happy.

Finding out isnt right for everyone so only do it if you are both sure. I agree with Mandymoo some people are really negative when you know what you are having. I've told all my family and friends that I dont kow what I'm having but had to tell some people so its only mumsnet people who know, but again as mm says - its my baby who gives a stuff what anyone else thinks!

Enjoy your scan whether or not you do find out, I have loved this 22 week scan more than any other because the detail is so amazing - so really enjoy it!

thebecster · 04/01/2006 12:40

Reading all about your scans, so now I really am desparate for my scan on the 12th! I can't wait to see my baby again... We all listened to the baby's heartbeat on Xmas day (my dad's a doctor, and he's got a Doppler). The whole family gathered around my belly...

The baby isn't moving much at the moment - but I can only feel little 'flutters' anyway, just when I'm lying still in the middle of the night. No proper 'kicks' yet. But when my Mum was pregnant with me, I cracked 3 of her ribs by kicking, so I actually hope this baby isn't quite so aggressive as I was!

Happy new year everyone, and hope you all had a good Christmas!

runtus · 04/01/2006 16:27

Had the scan at lunchtime today and it was fab! Found out the sex and I am to be a mum of a little boy it seems, other half is congratulating himself with singlehandedly saving the future of English rugby as we speak.....

The scan was so nice, got to hear the heartbeat as well as see the little fella doing loads of funky stuff. Kept trying to grab his toes - how cute is that??! All fine size wise (although seems big to me!) and scan lady said everything was good..........

Hope everyone still waiting for their scans has as lovely a time as we did - just want to do it all again!

Mandymoo · 04/01/2006 21:48

Runtus - congratulations on the little boy bump!

Maybe you could give me some tips on the whole boy thing!!

Glad the scan went ok XX

zzoey · 04/01/2006 22:01

Hi all. happy new year
Also had scan today. Very happy indeed to hear all is well with the little one. Am a bit sad to find that I'm feeling rather disappointed that she's a girl... didn't think I minded that much, but seems I do! As already have 2 beautiful DDs, I think I just would have liked a son this (definitely final) time round. Dh, bless him, says he doesn't mind either way. my mum I think is quite pleased it's a girl as she is in her 70s and was worried a boy might be too energetic for her to mind. And DD1 (4y) is v happy to have another sister. But i'm definitely a bit disappointed. quite glad to have found out now so by the time she arrives I'm sure I'll be over it. So looking forward to meeting her in May!
unfortunately she dozed throughout the scan... so no cute activities to see today.
not sure if to tell people I know the sex or not other than close friends/family... a lot of people have said things like "of course, you won't want to find out...". some people seemt to think it's wrong to know. Not sure I can understand why. I think it's good either way. I was happy to have surprises last 2 times. glad I know this time. wd HATE to have felt disappointed at the birth! now I've got months to come round....
good luck all those with scans to come. whatever you decide to do...
ZZ

runtus · 05/01/2006 08:27

I find it staggering people have the front to say things like that about finding out the sex. I had a bloke at work do it to me the day before yesterday, came out with "I don't think it should be allowed, you should want a surprise". Sorry hadn't realised I was living in a fascist state where other people make decisions for me! My mistake obviously...................of course, the man that said it is 54 with no kids of his own, so his judgement is crucial.

Sorry to hear you are a bit disappointed at the mo Zzoey, as you say by the time your little one arrives you'll no doubt be ecstatic but at least you now have a good few months breathing space to get used to the idea. Much cheaper too!

lovecloud · 05/01/2006 11:33

Hello

Had my scan too! Did not find out the sex again although I was more tempted this time.

I just love surprises and I am trying to not wish the next 5 months away but I cant wait to meet him/her.

I am trying to not let myself think about the sex too much, I would love dd to have a sister. I know all about girls and enjoy dd so much but then It would be lovely to have a boy as it would be a different experience... will just have to wait and see!

The scan was amazing, I remember being disap with dd's 20 week scan because it was not that clear.

This scan was great, you could see all the individual fingers moving and really make out clearly the facial features. My photo is fab and so clear!

I wish the sonographer would just hold the "thingy" still. Its so annoying that they keep moving about so fast all over the place, you dont know if its them making movement or the baby. Theyn they say "see the hand move" you look and she has moved to the head.

I would like myh own machine

Everything looks fine which I am so happy about.

Roll on May!

Mandymoo · 05/01/2006 18:06

Glad the scan went well Lovecloud !! X

Mandymoo · 06/01/2006 22:30

Hey ladies - this thread is going a bit quiet!! Are you all ok!!! XXXXX

Mandymoo · 07/01/2006 18:54

Is anybody there????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lovecloud · 07/01/2006 21:09

Hello Mandymoo

I agree this is a quiet thread so much that I just look now and then.

Isnt it annoying when you start a conversation and no-one comments and then emails about something unrelated etc...

At first I thought people were ignoring me but I see it happens most of the way through so I guess its more of a "drop in" thread to say what stage we are at etc.

How are you feeling and how many weeks are you now? I am 23 weeks and feel great but definitley starting to "feel" pregnant, sleeping can be a bit uncomfy especially if baby decides to start kicking for ages. My belly has suddenly grown and so has the rest of me. I emailed on here before xmas saying how small i was and it was my 2nd etc... All that xmas food gave my belly a boost

I have that lovely feeling all the time now where whenever i find myself not doing anything for a few minutes my mind drifts off and i start thinking about when baby will come, boy/girl, who they will look like etc... Makes me smile to myself all the time - love it!

zzoey · 08/01/2006 17:59

Hello Mandymoo and LC
I'm around... just not got anything v interesting to say! glad you're enjoying pregnancy M.
I'm really looking forward to May, too.
I feel well but have just started with some symphisis pubis dysfunction - pain at the front of my pelvis, when I walk or try ot stand on one leg. I'm a bit worried to get this already at 20 weeks. It started at about 36 weeks the first time, after I jumped a ditch (don't ask!). The 2nd time it started much earlier, may be 30 weeks and was quite trying by the end.
A friend of mine ended up on crutches with a much worse form of the problem.
Any one else had/ got this?
How are all the rest of you?
zz

nez · 08/01/2006 22:34

Hello all,
Hope you all had a good Xmas and New Year. I was sick as a dog with ear infection and tummy upset and spent most in bed!. So much better now.
Had my 21 week scan and all is well, apparently! I couldn't really make out a thing and need to have another for head measurements. DH could see loads, but sonographer chap kept telling me to lie down...not fair!
Glad other scans went well also. Was anyone else a bit disappointed? The 12 week was far clearer for me..I also thought that they would go through everything in a bit more detail. Think I read too amny magazines and books about what should happen.
Sleeping is more difficult for me too. Had one of those support pillows from Santa which is helping.
Oh yes! Felt baby move at last for sure at 19 weeks. So very excited I could not sleep!
Hope you're all well and dandy and eating your greens etc..
Take care Nezza

SPD sounds terrible. How can you avoid it apart from not jumping over ditches?!
Take care Nezza

louismummy · 08/01/2006 22:44

hey zz i've started with spd at 23 weeks it is so painful...
Feel jealous that alot of you know what you're having. Didn't want to know but still. Have two friends who have just had boys... I want another boy.. but all our friends here have ended up with one of each. but may will tell...Hating work at the mo, so so so tired.

Bouj · 08/01/2006 23:06

Hi all, am having a less than enjoyable pregnancy - with ds I barely knew I was pregnant, bit of backache but that was it. This time, I have heartburn all the time, still getting sick and have horrid sciatica. Feel huge and uncomfortable and looking forward to the end. Oh, and lots of quite painful braxton hicks! Still got ages to go, too. Grumble, grumble... I have cut out all dairy and am as of today trying lactose free milk to see if that helps. The no dairy thing definitely stopped me being sick, so hopefully I can tolerate the lactose free milk. So all in all, not a great time being had! Also, it has been the hottest December on record here which has been unbearable. Dh and I were close to divorcing over air conditioning! It has cooled down now, for the moment at least (funny how 29 degrees feels lovely and cool!) and I keep thinking that the benefit will be that I will have a newborn in the nice cool autumn/winter which will be much nicer for him/her and me. Ok, will stop rambling!!

thehockeyandtheivy · 09/01/2006 10:57

Everyones having a bit of a hard time of it aren't we? Sorry to hear about the spd for those of you that have it, I can only imagine how awkward that is.

As for the lack of chatting at the moment, how about a few of us try and get it going for a bit more support. I'll put an update on members, due dates and sex if known this afternoon or tomorrow, maybe that will help people be more included again.

I've been to the doctors every day for the past couple of weeks (thankfully the receptionist is nice and just laughs when I phone up each day for an appointment!) I'm waiting for an appointment fora blood transfussion because I'm still being sick every day and cannot keep the iron tablets down so am dangerously anaemic now. I'm also on my 4th set of antibiotics this pregnancy with a 4th chest infection again! Spent yesterday afternoon at the hospital cos the out of hours doctor thought I was getting pre-eclampsia, thankfully the bloods were all negative for that, but I've been told I have to give up work from now on. I'm pleased to have a bit more relaxing time now, but sad I cant officially be sent off on maternity leave with a card and flowers or something and just have to leave now on the sick until I can start my maternity leave on 12th Feb. But heigh ho, the way I see it, I never have to do the last poorly 24 weeks again as I'm not having any more babies after this, and I'm keeping my eyes on the prize of meeting my lovely baby boy in 15 weeks time (elective section at 39 weeks if not before).

Aah what a long post, and just noticed I'll have to change back to my non festive name of hockeymum, should have done it last week!

TheIncubator · 09/01/2006 11:18

Hi everyone.

I hope you all had a relaxing Christmas and New Year. Ours was really nice, went to Spain for a 6 day break over the new year, we had some wonderful weather and some great food - far too much and have definitely piled on the pounds. Sorry to hear that some of you aren't feeling too good. I've been one of the lucky ones and have so far had a comfortable pregnancy which will hopefully continue.

It's a BOY!!!!! (Is it me or do there seem to be a lot of boys at the moment?) We had the 20 week anomaly scan on Friday and I'm relieved to say that everything looks normal with the baby and he was wriggling around like a maniac! It turns out that I'm not so normal (par for the course with me it seems) in that I have a 'bicornuate' uterus which basically means that I have a membrain separating my uterus into two chambers, might be a possible cause for some of the m/c's I've had. The sonographer said that it shouldn't cause too many problems apart from being a tight fit at the end and having possible issues if the baby is breach as it will be difficult to turn him.

I've also started feeling movements which is great.

Has anyone started looking into the NTC classes in their area yet?

nez · 09/01/2006 13:28

Hiya,
Have day off and I'm knackered as I've been rushing around all day. Blooming? Full of energy?!! Not I!!
Incubator - I've just signed up for NCT classes. We have only been here for 1 year and my friends with kids all live far away in London or Wales so we'd like to talk to local parents face to face. Plus, we are first timers so have loads of Q's. I want to go to some NCT sales and see what's on offer too.
First time parents and tips from experienced ones please: have you got any essentials yet? When will you start? Looked at list of things we need last night....SO MUCH STUFF! YIKES!!
Sorted out baby room at least and cleared out loads of junk. Praise the lord for internet shopping, I say. wink

sniff · 09/01/2006 14:41

hi all nice to catch up I have been constatntly in and out of hospital too over christmas and new year with serious dehidration and food poisoning!

I am going for my scan on thursday and I am scared stiff I can feel the baby move now so I shouldnt be to worried cant wait to fin out whether its a he or a she

thebecster · 09/01/2006 17:54

Sniff - you poor thing, so sorry to hear about your food poisoning that sounds awful! My scan's on Thursday too - will have my fingers crossed for you as well as for us.

My DH & I have decided not to buy anything until after the anomaly scan. But I bought a little top in the sales for age 3month (not remotely practical, it was just so cute, and so tiny, and only £3). The baby room is still my DH's office, not remotely sorted. My DH has no experience at all of babies, so I'm working on convincing him that the baby will take up a lot of space - he has no idea what's in wait for him...

We decided against NCT class & are doing the hospital one instead because the hospital one is over a weekend. All the NCT ones seemed to be evenings & we both tend to get stuck at work unexpectedly sometimes...

Does anyone know how you find out about NCT 'nearly new' sales? We'll be wanting to buy as much as we can second hand...

louismummy · 09/01/2006 18:55

.our nct did the classes at the weekend, really enjoyed still see 4 others weekly 17 months on... but if you contact them they will tell you about their local nearly new sales . Ours are really good but bit of a rugby scrum apparently...

louismummy · 09/01/2006 18:58

shall keep doing yoga classes start tonight but spd is awful... seeing physio on wed for my complications last time... never got them cleared up by the time i got pregnant again... ( over a year waited when supposed to be a few weeks..)

lovecloud · 09/01/2006 19:07

Sorry to hear to hear you have spd.

With my first pregnancy i would get a shooting pain down the back of my right leg starting from my bum cheek when getting up in the night to go wee. It only really happended here and there and it was so painful. I read a bit about spd so I do sympathise with you. I was doing Yoga during first pregnancy and found a few moved eased my pain so maybe your yoga teacher can help you.

I am feeling ok today, still blowing my nose since xmas and really dont feel like working right now. I only work part time but i just want to daydream about the little baby in mu tummy all day!!!

Was with friend today who has a 4 week old, I cant wait to hold mine Her little one is so sweet, they really dont do anything at that stage. I dont know what the fuss was with my first dd, i felt like i did not have a min to myself. toddlers are the real work I have just had to dance around the living room with dd to the same song about 4 times!!!

louismummy · 09/01/2006 19:21

thanks lc, i've had to just chase ds round the bed to get him dressed for bed...
