I thought I'd start a due May 2006 club even though its very early in the month for it.

My stats are

ME: 31
DH: 30
DD: 3 next week!
Next DB due: May 1st (4 weeks pregnant today!)

Just been to the docs to get it all confirmed and seeing the midwife tomorrow. Look forward to more of you joining me as the month progresses!

Actually, I expect to have an elective section after an emergency one with DD so db will probably be born at the end of April. But like the idea of a May thread nonetheless!

thanks guys - have upated thread on Pregnancy. Thanks for all your support XX

cori · 18/11/2005 21:31

Mandymoo, have seen your post on the pregnancy thread. I have to say that when I was given the same risk I did feel I was pressured into having an amnio. Just do what you feel is best for your family. You have a very good chance of everything turning out well.
I cant believe there is noone in cornwall trained to do a Nuchal. Thats quite shocking.

Mandymoo · 19/11/2005 14:22

Thanks Cori - tbh i feel a bit let down, even by my midwife who doesnt seem to give a damn. I know lots of people have to make this decision every week but it still doesnt make it any easier for me and dh to decide. My dr, midwife etc just seem to feel that an amnio is the magic key and i should be grateful to have one!

cori · 19/11/2005 16:13

Mandymoo, I feel on your behalf. It sounds like you have made your decision. The risk is low in my opinion. I cant believe they are encouraging an amnio when the risks outweigh the benefits.

HandbagAddiction · 21/11/2005 10:32

OK - so it's Monday morning, I'm 13+1 today and have now joined the ranks of people who no longer feel pregnant in the slightest! Why oh why is this whole thing such an emotional rollercoaster. Don't get my wrong - it was lovely to have the scan last week and know that everything was OK...but now I'm worrying myself sick that because I don't feel pregnant anymore that something else has gone wrong - I mean...not even my boobs are sore!!

You'd think given that this is no 2. baby that I would know better!

Hope everyone else is OK.

Enid · 21/11/2005 10:49

17 weeks now and sickness in the morning seems to be a habit rather than a feeling!

feel generally much better as long as I get plenty of rest. Heard baby's heartbeat last week which was lovely. Bump is pretty tiny and high which pleases me but annoying when everyone comments hey ho.

runtus · 21/11/2005 14:44

Sounds mean but sooo glad to read I am not the only one feeling worried about not feeling pg any more...........at least we can take comfort in our group madness I suppose! Can't tell you how much better I felt when I saw all was well on the scan on Friday, esp when the baby turned over in front of my eyes - proved it was fine, although grumpy at having its picture taken it would seem!

Had a couple of tearful moments last week (most embarassingly, because S Club 7 were playing on the the Radio!) so I guess I can rely on the old hormones as some kind of indicator that something is going on in there!

coribells · 22/11/2005 13:24

Almost 17 weeks and starting to feel a bit pregnant again. Boobs sore, feeling movements etc. Had a listen with my doppler today. Heartbeat sounds strong at 150.

louismummy · 22/11/2005 18:28

Well I just feel huge... I'd better still be pregnant.... Or else it will be a serious diet. Much bigger this time. Off to the midwife thursday. hope to hear the heart beat then.

Waswondering - no problem! I'll update you when I get back................as for mosquitos, my other half has been before and claims not to have seen a one the whole time he was there but I always get bitten no matter where I am so I am going to take some Deet free repellant anyway. That is totally safe in pregnancy, although I always use it anywa as I'm allergic to the normal stuff.

I think I am going to stick to bottle water and I'll ask the rep about the ice when we arrive. Think I should be fine to have it within the hotel but might refrain outside and in Havana itself..........

Other than that, just planning to be as careful as normal really and see how I go

Enid · 25/11/2005 10:55

almost 18 weeks and feeling much better

even looking forward to cooking for friends tonight

almost definitely felt baby moving this am

and have thought of three nice girls names

squidgeymiller · 25/11/2005 15:55

haven't been on in a while, as usual no time - although I do have more energy now!

Apparently my mw got the dates wrong and I'm actually due 29/04/05. Do I have to change threads??

I'll be 18 wks tomorrow and THINK I've felt bb moving but still not really sure. Managed to hear the heartbeat Wednesday on my cheap doppler-style machine, which was a relief as I've been really sick since tuesday night. We initially thought it was food poisoning but after 3 days decided to visit the dr. who assures me it's only a bug and we'll both be fine.

Congrats to Mula on twins and sending all our thoughts to Mandymoo.

How long do AFP results usually take? I had my blood tests done 09/11/05 and still haven't had the results. I was told it would take up to 2 weeks but it's now longer than that and I'm beginning to worry.

Can't hide that I'm pg any more - have a very definite and v high bump, people have even started feeling my stomach- which will take some getting used to, I'm still having the natural reaction to try to hold everything in!

squidgeymiller · 25/11/2005 16:56

Also, now I think about it I'm pretty p* off that mw bullied me into having the test in the first place, even though we're pretty sure we'll keep the baby no matter what, and I'm in a low risk category (I'm 25 and have no family histories of anything to worry about) and now the results are back late and I miraculously cannot get hold of anyone to give me a clue. I'm now getting worried about something I wasn't worried about at all to start with!

!!

On top of that the care that we're getting up here (Scotland) seems to leave a lot to be desired - last appt was 15+ wks and won't have another until 24 wks which is a general check up with the mw. I only get one scan (12 wks) and will NOT be told the sex of my baby - if I have to have a second scan and ask they will refuse to tell me the sex!

Is this normal??

This is my first pg and I fel like I'm supposed to know what happens and how and when psychicly - I ended up having to chase my mw and gp to get booked in at 13 wks, because I was "lost in the system".

I have read all the books I can find because I'm not getting any info from my mw or gp. the nearest I got to actually finding out what's happening with my body from them was being thrust a ton of leaflets and being told to "read those - they'll explain everything", which, by the way, they didn't! Every time I ask a question they act like I'm supposed to know the answer already, and like I must be daft or stupid or something.

I don't mean to complain or ramble on but I really feel like I don't know what's happening and that I'm missing something special.

Sorry, does anyone else feel the same???

hockeymum · 26/11/2005 09:56

Squidgymiller. Sorry you are hvaing such a rubbish time with your health system up there. Unfortunately it does seem that you are left alone for so much of your pregnancy to work things out mostly wherever in the country you are. I was worried about this in my first pregnancy so bought the HUGE book Pregnancy and Birth by Mirium Stoppard, which has a week by week section which answered a lot of my questions. A lot of your questions will get answered when you start ante-natal parenting classes which your midwife will sort out for you at your drs surgery or at the hospital itself. These were a good opportunity to find things out and ask questions, as well as getting a tour of the labour suite etc. However these don't normally start till about 32 weeks so you have a bit of a wait.

It is normal in most places to have a 20 week scan, but some health authorities don't see the need. Other Health Authorities dont give a 12 week scan so you have to wait till 20 weeks to see anyone at all. I live in Cardiff which is great because you get scans at 12 and 20 weeks, however, here I wont see my midwife until 28 weeks! I last saw her at 9 weeks, so thats a bit of a frustrating wait. I've had to chase and chase the doctors for extra help because I have a low iron and ferritin count. Also my problems with blood pressure etc started last pregnancy at 18 weeks so I assumed the midwife would want to see me from then, but No, they really are not interested until you already have a problem. I guess a lot of this is cost cutting but is very frustrating, and must be worse for you in your first pregnancy. Feel free to ask any questions on the message boards here and chase your GP for anything else, but I do recommend you get a really decent book which will give you loads of advice.

Oh, and no you don't need to join the April thread. I am due on 28th April and I think there is another (maybe Enid? - am I right?). You may well be delivering in May anyway with your first but if not you are still welcome (you can even go on both threads if you like)

Hope you start to feel less anxious soon. Sorry about the long post!

gloriainexcHELSIsdeo · 26/11/2005 17:56

Hi everyone - don't look in on here all the time as pretty busy at the mo but had to share this with you. I was coming out of Littlewoods on Wednesday when a couple in the dooray just started talking to me (strange but anyway) she said "oh how long have you got left then" I said about "5" she said "not long then" - she nearly fell over and the husband gasped when I said "no 5 months" she thought I meant 5 weeks!!

Also I was at toddlers on Thursday when my friend pointed to another woman who has only 3 weeks left to go - I am bigger than her!!

littlemisspiggy · 28/11/2005 12:59

Squidgey - Sorry you're having a crap experience. I remember feeling the same disillusionment with the system the first time (although they did do 12 & 20 wk scans). i though I would be caringly and expertly guided through the whole 40 weeks but no I was pretty much left to find & chase things up on my own.
This time I am now almost 15 wks and still have not had my booking appt with midwife. They sent me an appt for the 21st Nov at home 3 weeks ago but I sent it back by return because it didn't suit and I preferred to be seen at the clinic. Have I had a new one? No in fact somewhere between the community midwives and the hospital midwives they have lost my file.If I hadn't phoned to find out what was going on I would probably not get seen.
Anyway on a cheerier note we got the sex results back from the CVS last week and it's a ................................................................................................boy!

Mandymoo -great news for you! i think you're past the miscarriage danger point now.

PS - I was speaking too soon when I though the sickness had gone [SULK]

hockeymum · 28/11/2005 14:49

littlemisspiggy - congrats - a boy! You're the first fom this thread to find out I think! Can I just ask, did you find out with your other pregnancy what you were having? Do you feel it helped to know or not? I've got my 22 week scan in 3 weeks and really want to know, but people keep telling me not to. If I did find out I would only tell mners what I was having, I would lie and tell family I didn't know cos I know they want a surprise, but desperately want another girl and would like time to get used to how lovely a little boy would be and welcome him gladly to the world with no disappointment.

has anyone else found out? Are you going to?

OP posts:
littlemisspiggy · 28/11/2005 15:17

Hi Hockeymum - No we didn't want to know with the first just because it was the first and we wanted the surprise. This time we thought we'd be practical (hah!) and find out. We didn't mind either way but had kind of come to believe it was a girl just because I've been so sick this time compared to last time. But now I know I can keep DS' baby stuff a bit longer and he gets want he wanted "just a bruvver".
If you want really want to know go ahead and ask. It's your decision , no one else's business IMO. Mind you if I hadn't had (grammmar?) the CVS I probably wouldn't have been able to find out as our NHS Trust has a policy of not telling you. I had the CVS done at a different hospital (UCH).
Do whatever is right for you.

runtus · 28/11/2005 15:59

We are thinking we are going to find out at the 20 week scan in Jan, too nosey not too!

gloriainexcHELSIsdeo · 28/11/2005 16:24

I am going to find out the sex hopefully at the scan on 13 December. For our little girl mostly as she is adamant it's a girl - ok then - yes for me too as I am far too nosey!! I am sure it is a boy as the pg so far is so different. Dh and my mum think another girl so will be interested to see.

Mandymoo · 28/11/2005 22:33

Gonna find out next week when the rest of the amnio results come through - got a feeling what it is but at least i'll know 100% next week!!!

sniff · 29/11/2005 09:41

Mandymoo I am very pleased for you I am so glad everything came back ok

I find out the sex of my baby 2nd week in january I am really nervous cant wait to find out what it is!!!

Squidgy sorry to hear of your experiences I have moved house recently and have to say the health authority here leaves alot to be desired aswell you can pay to have a sexing and 19 week scan with a few companys and you get the scan on dvd to watch and keep (and its 3D)
