Yo December 2010 ladies, here we go - the mid-point of our pregnancies...and beyond!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
GreenGeekGirl · 15/08/2010 10:02

Welcome to the thread ButtonAzure! It's a really lovely one and I'm sure you'll be happy here. I'm also expecting my first on 12th December!

DF, Wholelottalove & kiwi5 Meet! Grin My schedule is really flexible at the moment and could meet pretty much any time. Would a Bristol meet be ok? I'm happy to go elsewhere if it's more convenient for everyone but don't have a car so would need to be near public transport or blag a lift.

maxpower Mmm brownies - love Borough Market!

Cheryl Third recommendation for moneysavingexpert. So useful and make sure you sign up for the weekly email, which always has some great offers in it. As others have said you don't need to spend a fortune on the baby. I've found so many bargains on eBay, Freecycle and Gumtree. The baby will be just as happy with second hand things and, as new products can expose them to toxic chemicals (such as Bisphenol-A) from the manufacturing process, possibly safer too!

GreenGeekGirl · 15/08/2010 10:06

C&G Aw new puppy - so jealous! Envy I have massive dog broodiness at the moment but DH doesn't want to get any animals until after the baby is born, in case it's too much to deal with all at once! What sort of dog is it?

CheeseandGherkins · 15/08/2010 10:17

GGG He's a staffie cross, cute little black boy with a couple of white bits. He's adorable. We kind of thought with 2 cats, a dog, a hamster and 3 kids that another puppy wouldn't make much difference :o Plus I thought it'd be better to get the puppy now and used to us before the baby comes in December. Least we can make a headway on training until then too and it's kind of a distraction from all the crap!

We rehomed him from the rspca, couple of litters were born there after the mothers were taken away from bad owners. Same with our dog, she's 1 now and the 2 cats are just over 1 and we got them as kittens from a local shelter.

MrsSnaplegs · 15/08/2010 10:35

C&G Ooh new puppy Envy We opted to postpone the puppy purchase becasue of pg. We already have 2 cats (tolerated just) and a 7 yr old Rhodesian Ridgeback (was my surrogate child before DD). When we stopped trying for child No2 about 2 yrs ago we gave DD the option of Brother, Sister or Puppy - she chose Puppy and we had planned on this year for her 5th B'day. Had to break the "news" to her that she would have to wait for the puppy now as we were having a baby instead - she was very grown up about it for her age! I really like the Jan Fennell book - The Dog Listener - she speaks my kind of language when it comes to dogs - think I have lent my last copy out - keep rebuying it and then lending it to people and never getting it back Hmm If I have a copy upstairs I will happily post it to you if not try the local library.

Lavitabellissima · 15/08/2010 10:38

Welcome ButtonAzure Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

Jealous about the puppy C&G

I could not sleep at all last night, so uncomfortable, I ended up going in the spare room at about 3am. I keep reading that you should sleep on your left as it's better for the baby, does anyone know if this is the same with twins or should I take turns on sides Confused

I looked at the Dream Genii pillows yesterday but was put off by the price, £45, but after last night I think maybe it's worth it if I get a good nights sleep Hmm

I hope everyone's had a lovely weekend Smile

jobobpip08 · 15/08/2010 12:13

Hi all

Well as always its been busy on here! I've just over my cold, its taken ages.

C&G glad things went well last week. Puppy sounds lovely, I'm getting some more chickens alter, just doesn't have the same 'cute' factor!
MrsS LOVE the trike. Especially the picnic basket on the back! Laughing at the options for DD's birthday!!
Button hello and welcome

I am sleeping better these past few nights than I have for ages, bit cooler maybe, but my hips are really achy by morning and usually get me up before I want to. I seem to be feeling all these things so much earlier this time. Or maybe its old age Grin

Whoever was saying about cots , DS1 stayed in the moses basket for ages until he nearly grew out of it! That said, some babies don't seem to like them and are happier in a cot. Either way theres no panic right now, all I would say is to make sure you have a new mattress.

Lavita I was thinking about the left hand side sleeping thing this morning and wondering why that was. I'm going to google it.

Hope everyone has a lovely day, wishing I had everything here to do a roast mmm.

MrsSnaplegs · 15/08/2010 12:43

As everyone loves the trike so much I thought I would put photos of DH proper project on here as well. Project Rosey was bought in Feb 2010 for the princely sum of £350 and was originally supposed to have been finished for the end of May. Unforutnately some of the parts have had to be specially made e.g. suspension so things have been held up a bit. DH is a perfectionist but only gets to work on this at weekend at present when I am home so lots of delays! Hopefully by end of this weekend chassis and body will be ready to go back together so interior can start to be refitted! I am doing the upholstery and soft furnishings, we are trying to retain as much of the original as possible but will add hot water and extra electrical supply, the original had gas mantle lights which I have drawn the line at!!

MrsSnaplegs · 15/08/2010 12:44

Sorry photos on my profile!

CherylAnnTweedy · 15/08/2010 15:10

Hiya, just sneaking on while DP washes the car.

Chloe & MrsSL - a Friday lunchtime cuppa down the Hard sounds good to me!

Thanks for letting me sound off & the advice. I feel a lot better than yesterday thanks to my parents. I'm currently bankrupt (will be released on Sept 11th, can't wait!), another legacy from xp. Joint accounts that were clear when we split, instead of signing the forms to take my name off, he beat me up, then proceeded to bleed them dry & rack up the charges, and so I had no choice last year but to declare myself bankrupt. SadAngry The only plus is that next month I'm released from those debts, but he's still liable, ha bloody ha!

I think tbh it's the summer hols making it worse, I'm quite anal particular about our budget, but we somply don't have the leeway for extra food for 2 hungry boys, meaning that this is the 1st week of the hols that our food has come in on budget (but cupboards & fridge empty by Thurs). Funnily enough MrsSL, I did have a check in the cupboard last night for ingredients and found plenty for cherry shortbread and chocolate cake (and even a couple of packs of jelly lurking!). Plus they need more clothes (they get through the rest of the year with about 5 t-shirts!)

And how is it that parents just know when something's not right? Mine came round yesterday, we were in the kitchen & my dad forced £200 into my hand. I try to refuse it but he's saying it's 'commission' for helping him sell his car. Hmm Strict instructions not to tell my mum. Then we're in the front room, my mum forces £200 into my hand. Again, I try to refuse it, and she tells me it's not for us but for the boys so that we can take them out (mustn't tell my dad!). I haven't even mentioned that we're finding it really tough atm. I just hate that I'm 30 & still relying on handouts from my parents.

On a positive, half of my things on ebay sold last week, making me just over £100 and sold a broken old tomtom yesterday on there for £26. We've also got enough to fill my dads car up for another car boot (made £76 at the one a few weeks ago, so will probably do another at the end of the summer).

Lavita - I think that's a perfectly reasonable request. I think Mothercare do some sort of gift fund (I overheard a member of staff talking to another couple) sort of like a honeymoon fund I think, but for baby bits. May be worth looking into? I use a pillow under my bump & then another between my legs. Does the job perfectly.

MrsSL - thank you, an ear to bend is a lot thank you. Smile

Hi Button, welcome along. Sorry to hear you've been getting bad pains, hope all is ok from now on.

C&G - how cute your puppy sounds. Good luck for dd's assessment tomorrow & your scan. The FB sale boards seem to be quite popular, lots of people selling here too.

GGG - Freecycle has been fab for getting rid of things I wouldn't be able to sell, but never seem to be able to get anything, for example, DP wanted a filing cabinet for the shed, so I put a request on for an old one, nothing, kept trying every few weeks, then after a few months someone was offering 3, sent an email asking for 1, but he'd already got someone collecting them. Always seems to happen to me on there.

Jobob - the left hand sleeping is because apparently it helps to get baby into the most comfortable position for labour. Also keeping upright or being on all 4s helps.

MrsSL - wow, my great grandma used to live in a caravan similar to yours in my grandparents garden. Make sure you keep adding pics as DH restores her.

We've got a busy week ahead, we have loads of converted Tesco vouchers so taking ds1 up to London tomorrow. ds2 is staying at my parents and using the money from my mum to get there and for dinner. Does anyone have any suggestions for parking in Wimbledon? Then PILs are down Weds & Thurs, they want to take us over to IOW, then it's the weekend again!

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

MrsSnaplegs · 15/08/2010 16:54

cherylanntweedy don't forget to look at Greyhound bus as an option - for 3 of you tomorrow would be about £45 return BUT if you use VIP Switch as the code on checkout online then you can get it for half price so about £23 for all 3 of you - works out about £7 each return - much cheaper than train!! Only issue may be the 2 hour journey as you have to be in your seat so not like a train where LO can run up and down (there is a toilet!) A couple on there last week with toddler - he was really stressed as he ended up with LO on his lap whole way and clearly didn't enjoy it - but if your LO will sit in a seat by a window you can play I spy and stuff much easier than on the train!

CherylAnnTweedy · 15/08/2010 18:00

MrsSnapLegs Our car does a ridiculous amount to the gallon, so will work out at about £15 to get to London & back! I've found a car park in Wimbledon that's only a pound an hour, so hopefully that will have spaces. Thanks for the code though, if DP & I go up on our own will definitely use them.

Lavitabellissima · 15/08/2010 18:09

Cheryl I've been using pillows but I'm still not comfy. I was hoping that the dream gennii is a miracle cure. Does anyone have one?

chloesbaby · 15/08/2010 19:20

I am definitely up for a Friday cuppa at the Hard. Are you both free this Friday MrsS and Cheryl?

I am going to London on Wednesday and was planning to use the Greyhound so will give that code a go! Grin

CheeseandGherkins · 15/08/2010 19:32

Lavita I have one and I love it, really helps me with sleeping at night. Was well worth the money, had it since about 12 weeks.

Cheryl Thanks, it's a half 9 appt tomorrow and we should be there an hour and a half so least it's first thing in the morning. Your ex sounds like a right twat, so sorry you had to suffer with him. Thankfully you're in a much better place now and I hope things pick up for you.

MrsS Love the pics, how long will it take to be finished? That book sounds really interesting.

Got to run, kids are screaming.

CheeseandGherkins · 15/08/2010 20:18

I'm back :o Is anyone else getting kicks/movements so hard that they hurt? I have been just now, feels really uncomfortable! I remember this now from previous pregnancies but didn't happen until much later on. Feels really odd and actually made me say oww! So lovely to be feeling her though.

ButtonAzure · 15/08/2010 21:06

Thanks everyone for the welcomes :)

Feeling better now pains wise.. taken my antibiotics for nasty UTI that caused them. Not feeling the energy I need for this week at work tho, boo. Anyone else felt like their boss silently resenting them?

Mums with other DC what are the tricks for keeping up with it all?? i'm in awe!

Have to agree that the little kicks (- not uncomfy yet C&G, but can still be alarming) are making even wiped-outness feel worthwhile!

CherylAnnTweedy · 15/08/2010 21:22

C&G Thanks Smile I'm getting a few uncomfortable kicks, but nothing yet that hurts. I can see the kicks now, had my phone on my belly watching it bounce around. DP now thinks I have an alien in my belly!

Chloes - this Friday is good for me.

Button - no tricks for keeping up with things, you just do! It's the same when you 1st have a baby, I'd only held my nephews when I had ds1, so it was 10 years since I'd held a baby. I was clueless as to how to dress, feed, bath, change nappy etc but it just came completely naturally, cliched but true!

Just sticking a few more tomtoms on ebay then off to bed. Night night.

DuelingFanjo · 15/08/2010 23:32

I am worrying, probably for no reason.

Have been very emotional and upset today and am worried something bad will happen to the baby. Just been a really stressful and horrible day with very little sleep and lots of crying. Everyone gets emotional don't they? I won't harm the baby will I :(

frankenfanny · 16/08/2010 00:26

If you are still up, DF,of course your baby will be fine. Better to get upset and crying out your system. Being uptight and "manful" about problems just doesn't seem to sit well in pregnancy, something in you wants everything to be worked out, including the emotional, before you give birth. Plus little sleep, stress etc - who wouldn't be crying. I know it is hard when you are working, I got signed off work with stress with my third, but he was the most laid back baby.

Dunno if my midnight musings are full of shit or what, but I think it is a lot to do with this stage of pregnancy, and bonding with baby, and processing the good emotions as fear of what could go wrong. A friend of mine used to have dreams that her baby was actually a mouse, and would wake up in tears, of course everything was fine.

I was hoping to enjoy every minute of this pregnancy, as it was planned, happened very quickly and is going to be my last, but I am full of worries too and have so much to do which make me exhausted and tearful a lot of the time.

I need to get some sleep too but I have been up with my daughter who is having nightmares, sleeping badly and crying for some reason, I am hoping it is not puberty related, I am just not ready to buy her Tampax yet, she is teeny tiny for her age.

Take care everyone. Night night.

MrsSnaplegs · 16/08/2010 08:58

Chloesbaby and CherylAnnTweedy Friday lunchtime at the Hard is good for me, I will finish early this week as I am taking next week as annual leave. My bus goes about 1415 so I can probably be there anytime from 1230 if that is ok? Either we can have tea/coffee at Popeyes if the weather is nice or if not go into the Pumpkin Cafe at Station unless anyone has any other suggestions?

jobobpip we sort of knew we were safe with those options and she would choose Puppy as we had already been priming her that it was the best option - she was going to share another RR puppy with me so we would train it together, she was going to do Kennel Club Junior Handling classes and I would go back to showing with the option of breeding in the future when I retire in a couple of years! Have to say my DH did draw the line when I suggested we should name the baby Puppy then we would solve the problem!

C&G the caravan was due to be finished at the end of May so I didn't have to camp whilst pregnant - however as we are still going to be camping at the end of this month clearly it hasn't happened! We have to have it back together in 1 piece for the house move - after that it is just fitting the interior back in which should take aabout 3 weeks solid work or a couple of months of just weekends - he would get more done if I was at home because he could work on it in the evenings but being on his own with DD he cant'/won't leave her in the house on her own asleep even if he is only in the garage outside as she sometines gets up again.

DF I think the emotions and worries are normal for all of us - I spent most of last night worrying I would fall off my trike on the way to work and get run over by a car - silly but it kept me awake on and off most of the night! I made it to work safe and sound in half the time it used to take me to walk. I think being away from home isn't helping me.

Well another Monday morning at work - not too many left really only 15/16 weeks Shock better do some work I suppose!
Anyone else gone back to being really hungry? I had breakfast this morning and have just polished off a bag of crisps and think I may start on my packed lunch soon Confused I have managed to defer my Mum's visit - said I will go to hers for a few days next week with DD. Have got a visit to a house with the OT and a couple of other officials tomorrow afternoon to see if it is "suitable" for us. I was also due to be going into hospital for 3weeks intensive rehab for my ME but obviously that has been cancelled now, not sure whether they will want me before the baby is born but need to make sure I don't relapse again before I next go back in Hmm
Mmm that's my pear gone as well - right time to start on the cheese sandwiches Wink

chloesbaby · 16/08/2010 09:47

12.45 is good for me! Really looking forward to meeting you both if that time suits you too Cheryl
I don't know Popeyes but I guess it is near the bus station is it?

MrsSnaplegs · 16/08/2010 10:07

Popeyes is the little man in a hut at the top of the ramp to the ferry - he does a really nice cuppa for £1 and has tables and chairs - nice if weather is ok!

DuelingFanjo · 16/08/2010 10:30

Have called in sick today, the first sick day I have taken while pregnant so I shouldn't feel guilty but I do. Have had very little sleep this weekend because of issues with stress and being pi**ed off with my DH who has been away. now he's made me feel like I've ruined his weekend away. Possibly I have because I have been very emotional :( though it's more complicated than that.

I never get to go away and am hoping that DH and I can do something together before the baby arrives but am probably hoping for something which just won't happen.

Washed all the baby clothes yesterday and while I was hanging them out I had a horrible vision of a future life of drudgery :(

I definitely need to kick myself up the arse and stop being so miserable!

Chooster · 16/08/2010 11:46

DF - So sorry to hear you are feeling emotional and stressed. You absolutely wont be hurting your baby in any way, and I think it is natural to have pregnancy wobbles, especially when its your first as you dont know what to expect and you probably can't understand how lovely it is (most of the time!) with a new baby. There will still be plenty of time for you to do things for yourself and with DH. I dont know if thats a worry for you, in the very early days with DS1 I remember having a few teary evenings when DH went out with friends and I felt I was stuck in a domestic rut breastfeeding, cleaning, wiping bottoms etc... BUT, those feelings didn't last long and soon enough breastfeeding was easier, I was getting more sleep and DS1 was becoming more predcitable Smile. DH and I even went to Paris for 3 days when DS1 was 4 months old as a belated honeymoon. I know thats too early for some to leave the LO but that and a few evenings out made me feel much more like the old me. Anyway, am rambling a bit - but pregnancy / early motherhood can be an emotional rollercoaster Smile. Hope things with DH improve and that you feel better soon. Smile.

Good to hear about the court outcome C&G - Hope the assessment today goes ok for your daughter - it must be such a worry for you. And welcome to the new puppy!! Is he behaving himself. Smile

Great that some more of you are meeting!! I dont think there is anyone else up in Edinburgh?

Hi to everyone else and welcome button! As has been said there are no tricks I'm afraid! But it all does happen quite naturally once the LO is here. At the moment my biggest juggle is the boys and work and I know I'll find it much easier when its just the boys and the baby. Smile

maxpower · 16/08/2010 12:23

Hello all, just wanted to say DF this is a hormonal blip - just remember your post from the other day about how happy you were being pregnant!! That made loads of us smile and some of us must have been feeling a bit low/tired/emotional etc etc. I doubt everyday before you were pg you were smiling and happy - we're all allowed a self indulgent day of misery now and again. Why not book something for you and DH if that'll cheer you up? Oh and you feeling miserable won't bother the baby at all.

Knackered today as I was awake for 2hrs in the middle of the night for no reason.

Re kicks, baby has decided that 9pm is the time for a reshuffle. I think it might have had hiccups on Saturday night!

C&G hope everything went ok this morning.
