Yo December 2010 ladies, here we go - the mid-point of our pregnancies...and beyond!

Hi there,

happy news about all the scans! I had mine yesterday (my birthday) and seeing the baby was great, although, was anyone else a bit freaked out by seeing a little skeleton most of the time? Less good news, I'll probably need a Caesarian, because I have two fibroids above the cervix.

Then had the most rubbish day today. First my computer died (have lost all the programmes I installed on it), then I finally twigged after a day and a half I shouldn't be having period-like cramps this late on. Phoned the midwife, who got me to go to the GP, who sent me to the hospital with suspected premature labour (she didn't tell me that, but I saw it in my notes). In the hospital they disagreed, suspected an UTI instead, so gave me antibiotics. They did check that my cervix wasn't dilated. Now I'm home, but still have quite sore cramps - can anyone describe how the cramps from a urine infection might be different from contractions? I was born at 26 weeks myself and the thought of this baby being born that little bit earlier (I'm 19+4), meaning it would have no chance of making it, was a very one....

SlightlyTired · 30/07/2010 07:48

Jeez, C&G, I have just read your thread and I cannot tell you how sorry I am that you and your DCs are having to go through that, particularly right now. But as others have said, you sound like a very strong lady who is absolutely doing the right thing by her children - and you really seem to be very clear headed about it all which is only going to help you through it. I wish you the very best of luck with it all. I'm glad you have a DP to help you through it.

I have just had a text from childminder saying oh, by the way, DD was in contact with a child with slapped cheek syndrome yesterday. Have googled it and am now frankly terrified. Am 22+1 so it seems risk of miscarrage is low but it can still be fatal to an unborn baby. Suppose I am off to the GP today, then.

DuelingFanjo · 30/07/2010 08:53

Marlus not that I want to wish a urine infection on anyone but I hope that's all it is. I have had urine infections (though not while pregnant) and it can be very painful - a heavy horrible pain. Thinking of you and hopefully someone will have some reassuring words for you.

slightlytired Also hope everything is fine and you get the reassurance you need from the GP.

Wave to Miffster - I have so much stuff to sort out at work before November and just have no motivation.

Strix · 30/07/2010 10:01

Hi everyone. I have been very negligent lately. Sorry not to have been around.

I'm still feelin quite tired. But no other syptoms really. Haven't had a headache for a while now, which is great. My anomoly scan is 13th Aug. (yes, Friday the 13th ). I've been on the esearch for an au pair to take us from Sept through to Christmas, and think I have found one. It is so much work. Glad it is coming to an end. We had a chat on skype this morning before work and she seems really nice.

We are also moving at the end of August. Not looking forward to it! But, will be glad when it is over.

LittleB, I think you are right that mat leave can not be started for you until 36 weeks. You can start it at 29 weeks, if YOU want to. Before 36 weeks I think you are subject to the usual sick policy. And of course, you may have rights on a non strenuous job... but I'm not an expert on the matter so you might want to look for some of MN's HR experts (Like Flowerysomething).

Lavita, I've lost track of the coffe plan. When/where did we decide. I thinkit was Costa in Richmon on the 7th at 4:00... or I have I got that wrong?

MrsSnaplegs · 30/07/2010 10:20

OWO Happy birthday

Will catch up with everyone else later on bus on way home!

Chooster · 30/07/2010 14:20

Hi everyone - passing the time at work by catching up on MN! Roll on the weekend - by the way where has all that gorgeous sunny weather gone .

Good news on all the positive scans and glad to hear they have all be nice experiences as well after some uncommunicative sonographers earlier in the month. Congratualtions to those who know what they are having - there does seem to be an influx of girls doesn't there! I'm waving the 'boy' flag! Dont think there are that many of us so far. I know I'm totally biased as I've only had boys, but they are fab .

C&G - What a tough time you are having. Your poor DD and DS's. It must be unbelieveably hard for you too as your instinct will be to get the kids as far away from harm as possible. Hopefully the law will see sense and only give supervised access if the kids want it. I dont have personal experience but from what I hear in seems the law can be far too accomadating towards parents who are abusive.

Marlus - so sorry you're having this worry - good news the cervix is not dilating but it still must be a worry. Are you being seen again by someone? Hopefully the anti-bios will kick in and things will calm down.

DF - i-candy - I think it was you that wanted one... We had the cherry with DS2 and I loved it - Sold the bloody thing on ebay about 3 months before finding out was pregnant. But check on gumtree and ebay as you may find one on there.

About induction, I've given birth 3 times and been induced each time so it would be nice this time to let things take their natural course. Even so - yes it does lead to a more medicalised labour - but my inductions weren't that bad at all. All successful and I didn't feel cheated in any way. Although I have to say I'm a real "safety first, experience second" kind of person. I would cave at the first comment from a MW / Doctor that it was risky to not induce. But thats just me being paranoid .

Well, am 22+1 today! Time is zooming by! Have already bought a couple of bits for the baby but I'm hoping to have about a month between going on mat leave and due date so I hope to get some preparation done then.

Hope eveyerone has a good weekend!

By the way as there are so many girls around, can you share your no longer needed boys names - After having named 3 boys I'm struggling!

Strix · 30/07/2010 15:09

Hey, I have a boy flag to wave. So, move over girlies.

Let's see... boy names I like:
Andrew
Stuart
Charles
Oliver
Robert
Alexander
Nicholas
Miles

Any good?

frankenfanny · 30/07/2010 16:52

chooster I know someone who named her 4th ( and fourth boy) Finn - for Finished! But I bumped into her a few years later and she clearly hadn't , as she had a little girl.

I'm having problems coming up with any names, but we have a tentative boy's list (not all my choice I might add) which we probably don't need any more.

Angus
Murdo
Lyle
Riley
Laurence
Kit

Strix · 30/07/2010 17:00

Angus is a fabname.

KittyBump · 30/07/2010 17:02

Hi Everyone I'm new to MN but have been reading this thread for a while and decided I'd like to join in! I am due with my first baby on 12/12/10 and had my 20 week scan today I was very stressed about it as I'm a bit of a worrier but it seems all was ok - we didn't get any really clear views which may be because my placenta is at the front and also as the baby's hands were up by it's face alot so it was hard to get any profile views. But sonographer said everything she could see looked good.
I'm watching the Friends episode at the mo where there is the horrific video of someone giving birth, I hope it isn't really that bad! - anyway, just wanted to say hi to you all. You've already been reassuring me about various things just through reading your posts - good luck for anyone with a scan soon, ps - we didn't ask what we are having but I'd have been amazed if she could tell from the awkward views we were getting. Also I chose my MN name as ever since getting pregnant my cat loves to sit right on my belly and now clings round the side of my bump

mumatron · 30/07/2010 17:04

c&g don't know how you are getting through all of this, glad you now have a supportive dp. really, really hope the courts see sense and don't allow access.

please don't talk about names! i cannot think of one name that i would like to use for a boy. doesn't help that dp and i have very different tastes.

bought the first few things for baby today, scary times for me! can't quite decide on the pram i want yet. i love the icandy apple too df and it comes in some lovely colours, but i like the mamas and papas mylo aswell. decisions, decisions eh?!

scan on monday, can't wait.

Miffster · 30/07/2010 18:40

Been for scan, all completely well, thank God, am so, so, so relieved. Tiny has long legs and likes to kick me just behind my belly button, is 13oz and is... a boy!

Am well pleased, always thought it was a boy and all stuff I have bought has been boy or unisex, on the official grounds that it's fine, in fact great, for girls to wear things with dinosaurs and puppies and blue stripes, but secretly because I was sure it was a boy all along .

Now I am packing to go on hol! Housestitter has picked up spare keys, poor DH has had to go back to the office, grr, and I have it all to do!

I can't believe his work. He has been going in at 7am all week and staying til 10pm or later - one night it was 3am - in order to finish early on Friday, find out about his first child's anomaly scan and then go on holiday.

And the sociopathic fuckheads at his office still expect him to turn round after the scan, come back and finish off with the slow-coach client tonight!

x 1000000000

Imagine if the scan had shown something wrong? They would still expect him back. And this is why we are running away to live on an island next year, so he doesn't have to work for these evil, inhuman slavemasters any more, and we can actually see each other and enjoy having time to be parents to our child.

yeah, welcome kittybump

OP posts:
maxpower · 30/07/2010 19:33

welcome kittybump I can totally relate to your name - both my cats strangely wanted to drape themselves over/round my bump last time and have just started again this time

marlus hope things settle down and you get better soon

C&G your situation sounds awful - I can only wish you and your family the best of luck with it all x

miffster I sympathise with the shitty employer - DH's ex-employer was a complete twunt. Thankfully he made a drastic career change last year and it was the best thing he could have done, so good luck to you both for next year.

We're not going to find out the gender of the baby but I'm pretty convinced it's a boy. We had a boys name ready for last time that we both really liked but it just doesn't feel right this time and we can't really think of any others. Still plenty of time to go (not!)

Also realised today that I've got 5 weeks annual leave to take between October and starting my maternity leave! Looks like I'm going to be a bit of a part timer in a couple of months.

maxpower · 30/07/2010 19:34

oh and happy birthday OWO

Miffster · 30/07/2010 19:46

Thanks maxpower! Happy birthday OWO!

Happy birthday OWO

Hope your move is less stressful than ours is already! The person booking the van before us turned up an hour and a half late, which means we won't get any help with loading after all because my friends will be gone by the time the van gets here tomorrow

Wholelottalove · 30/07/2010 22:16

Happy birthday OWO (sorry I'm a bit late) hope you had a nice day.

Welcome too to kittybump

Seems like there are some stresses and strains going on as well as happier events - I'm loving news of scans and finding out the sex. When we've all had scans we'll have to make a list of who is having what (b/g/surprise). I have to admit to oscillating wildly between thinking it is a boy or girl. It's odd but as the weeks are going on I'm starting to think I'd quite like a boy, which means it is a girl of course! I think like someone else said, there will be a teeny bit of sadness either way as I know we will not be having any more after this one.

I went to antenatal yoga again the other day and we did a relaxation bit. The woman leading the course read out some affirmations at the end which I really liked and thought would share with you guys:

AFFIRMATIONS FOR PREGNANCY

My body is beautiful and strong
I gain faith in my body every day
I am eating well for both me and my baby
My baby is growing beautfiul and strong
Pregnancy is natural, normal, safe and healthy for me and my baby
Each day brings me closer to meeting my baby

There were a load of others for labour and birth and postpartum as well, so let me know if you want the others and I'll pop them up.

likethemapples · 30/07/2010 22:20

happy birthday OWO

Wholelottalove · 30/07/2010 22:31

C&G just read your thread and I'm very sorry for the situation. It sounds like you are doing a great job and everything you can. I hope things go ok at the hearing for you. x

DuelingFanjo · 30/07/2010 23:40

hope you had a gret birthday OWO

bakingkeepsmesane · 31/07/2010 07:34

Hi all,
ggg hope your move turns out not to be stressy today afterall.

Love your mn name kittybump

I've just been catching up on all your news since our daily visitor (a crow!) woke me up before 6 by it's usual pecking the window & skwawking...goodness knows what it wants?!

Think I have felt a few flutters now but even though 22 weeks today still no big movements.

Have a good weekend...

squistle · 31/07/2010 09:10

Hi Kittybump

Just a quick question for you guys. How many of us on here have got an anterior placenta and can you feel anything yet? Mine is at the front and I still haven't really felt anything that couldn't be passed off as gas!

maxpower · 31/07/2010 09:31
