Yo December 2010 ladies, here we go - the mid-point of our pregnancies...and beyond!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LittleB · 27/07/2010 22:39

Thanks wholelottalove, I've just posted on the employment section as I know there are some hr gurus on there who can hopefully advise.
Got to go to bed now, and try and sleep instead of worrying, I am finding it hard to sleep when its so muggy though- especially with this baby belly of a hot water bottle attached to my front!

DuelingFanjo · 27/07/2010 22:46

I have posterior placenta and they say it's well away from the baby, but I do have a bit of a jelly belly!

littleb I am pretty sure that legally your employee has to do a health and safety assesment and the stitch should be taken into consideration.

japhrimel · 28/07/2010 08:49

LittleB - I'm pretty sure they can only make you start your leave early if you go off sick within a certain time before your planned departure. I can't remember how many weeks it is, but I'm pretty sure it's not as much as 7 weeks! And before that time, your doctor can sign you off if it's not safe for you to go to work (ie. if they can't find you alternative employment) and your work just have to lump it.

DF - if you can feel movement from the outside I don't see why you couldn't see it too sometimes.

I'm off for my scan at lunch. Nervous and can't wait in equal proportions!

LittleB · 28/07/2010 08:53

Hi, thanks. mumsnet has come up trumps and given me the info in the employment section, basically if i have the stitch and can no longer do my job they have to find alternative work that I can do, if they can't they can suspend me on full pay, not start my mat leave. So I'll definitely start mat leave at 36 weeks, phew!
DF they have already done a risk assessment but if I have the stitch I will ask for another as it will change things. I'm really hoping I don't need it as I'm such an active person, ignoring my job I also have a dog to walk, chickens to keep, an allotment to care for and especially a dd who loves running about, seaside visits, swimming etc, to not be able to do all of those things will drive me bonkers! Dh will muck in anyway but I'll find it very hard. I just hope my cervix is up to the job!

PJen · 28/07/2010 08:57

It's a little cubby active princess!!! I am in all day meetings today and will miss most of your posts but am so happy to soon have a daughter (god it sounds so grown up!!)

LittleB · 28/07/2010 08:59

japh, hope your scan goes well.
Glad you're happy pjen, v exciting!

MrsSnaplegs · 28/07/2010 09:28

Morning all - hope everyone is feeling ok today!

DF Yes you may be able to see movements now - I can when I am lying in bath and stuff and I can definately feel kicks etc - I am 21 + 5 today.

LittleB Work must do a H&S Risk assessment on you and if your work is deemed a risk they must find suitable other employment eg desk job or sign you off sick on full pay, not force you to take maternity leave early. If you get no luck on the Employment section let me know and I will find the reference to the legislation for you.

C&G Welcome back under your new name

CherylAT email me - you have my address - used to be a nurse so have some expeience of POO

Wholelottalove We have that book as well, we tried to use it to tell DD that I was pg but she told me!!! Said she knew because I was getting fatter - she's nearly 5 and I was only 8 weeks or so at the time

frankenfanny welcome back - glad you can now go public, it is easier until people feel they can start touching your belly I've heard good things about Doulas, my DH was on a course with some a while ago, it may be worth investigating. Good luck with all the plans

good news from all those with scan/test results!

emmaxmas - I know about the unproductive bit, really can't get motivated at work hence why I am on here so much and definately agree about being more tired at the moment!

GGG Ok the DVLA publish a guide to medical disorders, this is available if you ggole DVLA Medical - the document is a PDf and is called At a Glance - I had to save it to my desktop to get it to open. It is slightly technical but the 2 chapters you need are Chapter 6 for Visual Disturbances and Chapter 8 for miscellaneous for the attention span issue. He may have been advised on an initial appt not to drive but with visual disturbances as long as it is non progressive and the patient has adapted to it he may well be declared fit to drive. Because of confidentiality laws the GP is not at liberty to discuss it with you or his wife however if you are concerned I would write to the GP saying he is still driving and if he had been advised not to drive could the GP speak to him again. In the meantime use a taxi for the kids

right better pretend to do some real work for a chnage - boss is back from holiday tomorrow

DuelingFanjo · 28/07/2010 10:17

PJen congratulations

good luck for the scan today Japhrimel

GreenGeekGirl · 28/07/2010 13:39

Yay! Just got back from 20 week scan and all is good. I can't remember who said they got extra time and free pics because they had a trainee doing the scan but I was crossing my fingers for the same treatment, which by chance we got, so I was really pleased. Little one has all the right bits in the right places and just on the large side of normal for size. They said it looked like a girl but that they couldn't really be sure because there was too much wriggling and crossing of legs, so I guess it will be a surprise after all.

DF I am 20 weeks and there is definitely visible movement going on. I'm getting some full on kicks and I can see (and feel) my tummy wibble each time. Now I now that the sensation is movement I'm quite sure I've been feeling it from as early as 11 weeks. The sensation is really distinct and not like anything else. I can't understand mistaking it for wind!

Cheryl Don't be coy - we can handle your poo question I'm sure!

DuelingFanjo · 28/07/2010 14:11

Hurrah - it was me who had the trainee recently, though others may have too. Shame the sex wasn't definite.

I just had to pay £195 for new tyres WAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

PJen · 28/07/2010 14:41

Okay I am back from this draining meetings and was dying to get up here while forcing some late lunch down... In the way to hospital yesterday, DH was so nervous that he ran into back of the car in front of us! We are going to have to pay for raising insurance now!!! yuuuukkkk... Although it was cute that he was so nervous!!! I am sad in a way that there is no more scan to look forward to. My hospital said there is no scan unless I am late... I thought they would monitor the baby growth or something but nope...

DF thank you and no you are not imagining!! I am 21 wk too and I do see the movements and sometimes jump when she kicks! damn the last months we will be huge and the kicks will be serious... 195 is ouch + HR are usually DOH!

LittleB Sorry to hear that you may need a stitch! You need to cut on those activities I am afraid anyway. I feel exhausted after ANY activity and I was a gym bunny every morning in gym before pregnancy!!!

MrsSnaplegs I love your long posts, when you address all one by one. So cute of you reading and answering to each person.

Japh any news on your scan??

GGG they never say it for certain but probably it does mean that it is a girl.

MrsSnaplegs · 28/07/2010 15:06

PJen It's called work avoidance - downside of being back in an office on my own is some days I cannot self motivate and just faff on the internet!

Word of warning for those first timers - enjoy the kicks whilst they aren't too uncomfortable - i have just remembered what it feels like when they kick down on your cervix area and up to your diaphragm - how long have we got left

japhrimel · 28/07/2010 15:13

Just got home - we went to Costa for lunch and then Mothercare to look at pushchairs after the scan!

All was well and we think its a girl. She was being stubborn again and kept on crossing her legs when the sonographer was looking for the gender, but she got one good view and that suggested girl. The sonographer said not to paint everything pink but that it's certainly more likely it's a girl than a boy.

The sonographer was great about running through what she was looking at during the scan and we could both see the screen, so lots of lovely baby-watching time. Pip also had her hands up by her forehead again - hope she doesn't try to come out like that! Placenta was posterior and well out of the way so no worries there and we're all set for our holiday in September.

PJen - growth scans aren't very accurate, so they tend not to rely on them much anyway unless it seems there is a problem. We're going for a 4D scan so have that to look forward to even if we don't get any more medical scans (rather hope not as we'll only have them if something goes wrong or needs monitoring!).

CherylAnnTweedy · 28/07/2010 15:35

MrsSL - will email you in a bit, cheers.

Having a lot of bother with ds2 right at the mo. Are we really only 3 days in?

DuelingFanjo · 28/07/2010 15:42

japhrimel congratulations on the scan

GreenGeekGirl · 28/07/2010 16:02

MrsSnaplegs Thanks so much for the info and advice - very much appreciated!

Lavitabellissima · 28/07/2010 18:01

My scan went well yesterday but they couldn't tell the sexes 100% as their little hands and feet were everywhere. Doctor said they were shy agree with PJen that this is more likely to be girls as no willies were sighted

We were all set with boys names but now need to look at some girls names too, all the ones I like are just that bit too popular.

Japhrimel & PJen Congrats on the scan!

MrsSnaplegs The kicks are already uncomfortable!, I asked the doctor if they had enough room because it really hurts low down when the move. She said they were fine but very active they have completely changed positions since my last scan 2 weeks ago.

OnlyWantsOne · 28/07/2010 19:22

Hey all - how are you all? 22 weeks today

How are all the scans going? We are nearly set for moving - im bloody exhausted!!

jobobpip08 · 28/07/2010 19:41

Ooh blink and you miss about 2 pages lol!

Glad to see scans have gone well, good luck for those with them coming up, cheryl hope those pains have gone, I would have been worried too.

Hope all the house moves go well!

I'm off for a week to see the sights in London with DH and DS (well, the big dino at the National history Museum and legoland, at any rate), hope everyone keeps well and rested.

xxx

CherylAnnTweedy · 28/07/2010 20:11

Enjoy jobob, I remember seeing that dinosaur when I was little and thinking "wow, it's so cool, it's huge". And the blue whale was great too. We took the boys up there last year and DP and I both looked at each other and said "is that it?!"

QueenofDreams · 28/07/2010 20:18

hey ladies.
So I'm nearly 19 weeks pregnant. Can't believe it! it seems like it's going so fast
Welcome back cheeseandgherkins let us know how you're doing and what's been happening.

Forgot who asked about leaky boobs - mine do a little if I squeeze them, but they're not spontaneously leaking.

I haven't got visible movement yet, but I did feel an almighty kick under my hand yesterday. DP keeps looking and saying 'none of this happened so early with DS'. I have to keep reminding him that you feel things earlier in later pregnancies.

Hope everyone is doing ok!

Wholelottalove · 28/07/2010 20:25

Congrats everyone who has had scans. I am getting really excited about mine next week.

OMG, a colleague at work has just revealed she is also pregnant and her EDD is the same day as mine! She hardly has any bump at all and I really had no idea! The difference in our sizes is quite marked - I am seriously getting worried that I'm brewing a giant. My brother was over 10 lbs...

LittleB glad you're getting some good advice.

frankenfanny · 28/07/2010 20:34

So glad everyone's scans are going well (bar one car shunt . Does everyone seem to be having girls? I guess when we get our scan we'll have to even it up with s boy

DH can now feel the baby move, he is too damn macho to act all thrilled and excited but apparently it is "cool". Judging by the kicks when it is bigger I am going to get a right booting in the ribs. DH is 100% convinced baby is OK so I've not to worry about the scan at all. Yeah, right.

Got stuck into the house finally and stripped wallpaper off in 1 room. Tomorrow I will wash down walls and then figure out how to hang new wallpaper with 3 kids "helping". Why am I having #4, again, exactly?

mumatron · 28/07/2010 21:12

wow, loads of little girls! hope i get to even it up a bit with a boy then. already have one of each so really doesn't matter but, this is dp's first and i know he would love a boy.

i'm 19 weeks today and got asked a few times in work when i was due, so i must be getting bigger. sort of hit me that i'm going to have a baby! has made me panic slightly . been through so much to have this baby, just can't get my head around it still!

WhatWillSantaBring · 29/07/2010 08:36

Morning all - midwife appt this morning so a nice lie-in for me (though according to work I'm "working from home"). I've just realised that I've rather messed up my dates - my 20 wk appt but I'm only 18+5 today. Oops. Too late to change and I can't go next week anyway, so hopefully she won't mind. I haven't seen her since 9+4 anyway...

Lots of girls it seems - I really don't want to know what we're having, so unlike a lot of you, I'm hoping that bump keeps its legs crossed. It sounds crazy but I'm going to be happy and sad with whatever flavour we have, as I want a boy and girl just as much! Despite denying it to my DH, I really wanted twins (one of each) first time round! Better be careful what I wish for though, in case the "just one more" we decide to have to complete our family turns out to be triplets (which I've seen - yikes! Can you imagine explaining THAT one to your DH )

mumatron - totally been there, and I'm sure I will go through the panicking again. I'm quite calm at the mo after a lovely old friend said how much joy and happiness her LO had brought her in the past year.

More happy stories please... less gloating about the sleepless nights, lack of money and general hardwork that children bring (not having a go at any of you ladies, but general family and friends who seem to be really negative!)

Right, better go and get dressed.
