Haha, chacha, what a lovely image - see it everytime I go for a check-up there!!

And OMG!!! How can you make me choose??!! They all sound delicious! I think you should just post on here, share the wealth as they say , and when you have time of course, don't mean to pester!!

OP posts:
Enthusia · 07/09/2005 18:57

Yeah, post the on here ChaCha, like the sound of the one with couscous!!!!!!

Londoner · 07/09/2005 19:21

ChaCha , so sorry to hear you're feeling so horrid and so sick that's really unfair, worst I've ever had was until 5 and half months and can't imagine how hard it must be to keep your spirits up....{{{{waves of sympathy ]]]] floating your way. Oh, and I can really relate to your experiences on post-natal wards, once I was next to a woman who asked me ..."why are you doing that?" as I breast fed my new baby, I was pretty stumped for an answer...I think I just nodded and looked puzzled or something. Her baby son had a bib on saying "Millwall dribbler" and she had a full quota of noisy relatives from dawn 'til dusk talking about me and the rest of the mums on the ward in stage whispers! But it was great all the same, I was in my 'babymoon' bubble...
Enthusia you sound like a real kitchen wizard, wow! rodeo1 as you're interested in what everyone's having for tea... I've just made pizzas, for 8 as all kids had a friend for tea... what am I NUTS! Phew it's hot in here!
Sorry to hear you'd love a homebirth but can't choose, although must be amazing that you will know what day your baby is going to be born.
Gosh, and the baby bag organisation that's going on here everyone is boggling my mind... I have to confess taking in, wait for it, a suitcase to the hospital plus a full pack of 48 newborn nappies for our first baby, and the last time I pretty much stuffed a couple of nappies and a babygrow in my pocket & got my husband to bring going home outfits for baby & I over the next few days after the birth... Perhaps I ought to get organised too...

ChaCha · 07/09/2005 19:35

Londoner - I love the way you bold/underline our names. It's great, makes reading a longer post so much easier and it's more personal too.

Okay..let's have a 'post a recipe' day. Pick one day of the week and we will all submit a favourite tried and tested recipe. Those who don't submit (hee hee) will be given a detention..LOL. Let's do it then!

rodeo1 · 07/09/2005 19:46

Londoner, LOL at the stuffing nappies and babygro in pocket on way out, haha!!

Good idea Chacha, we'll start an exchange recipes post on the recipe section, I'll start one as soom as I can think of one you'll like, hmmmm.....

OP posts:
Londoner · 07/09/2005 19:47

ChaCha, thanks, oh and, you're on.... let the recipe challenge begin, er, not that I can think of any right away mind....

Londoner · 07/09/2005 19:49

Thanks rodeo1 it was really fun, we giggled on the way to the hospital...ahhh

twinkle1 · 07/09/2005 20:29

Busyalexsmummy · 07/09/2005 20:42

not sure what to suggest twinkle, just that i used to get that with ds(although touch wood fine so far this time!) and when it got unbearable i'd get hand towels and soak them in cold water, then wring out and place across my bump for some temperary relief....

wheres the itching? all over or just bump?

Busyalexsmummy · 07/09/2005 20:51

after looking on google the only things i can see suggested are calamine lotion, applying moisturisers regulary, not using soap or using a very sensitve soap, not taking hot baths and keeping as cool as possible as heat'll make the itching worse

novadandypowder · 07/09/2005 23:27

well, had the second ante-natal class tonight. The woman who takes the first hour is absolutely rubbish. I think she managed to confuse everyone in the class - it's a good job I've been reading up. She talks like she's really bored, doesn't give the info in a clear way, and keeps missing out vital snippits, such as make sure you call the hospital before you leave the house rather than just turn up. Thankfully the woman who takes the second part of the session is great, or I don't think i'd go to any more.

We covered massage and breathing during the first stage of labour tonight, and DH was making me laugh, which earned us some dirty looks from the couples who were taking it all far too seriously.

I got to try out a tens machine on my arm to see what it felt like, and am considering getting one - has anyone here tried it themselves?

Tonight we just had spag bol, but the only good recipes I have are courtesy of Delia - can I post my favourite or does that count as cheating??

I get itchy bump, it looks like i have fleas, but it's just the skin stretching. I think you just need to keep it moisturised.

Londoner, it's fine to shorten my name to nova, I tried to use that as my nickname but it was already taken .

The kitten is just too cute, it meowed today for the first time and is currently playing with a toy mouse in a gangly cute way - aaaahhhhhh. Kind of makes up for the mauling I got last week.

ChaCha · 07/09/2005 23:44

Evening all,

Breaking News: Tescos are doing 2 pairs of value knickers for 65p!!!! LOL

Managed to get out for dinner in the end and a quick trip round supermarket. Off to bed.
Sweet dreams everyone xx

goldenoldie · 08/09/2005 05:13

babyonboard - I get the acid reflux too - Gaviscon works for me, but it makes me gag to drink it unelss I do it quickly with water. Agree with others, sleeping propped-up helps as well.

Nova - would love a nice slap up meal after the birth but I'm having a general anaesthetic with my c-section and will feel puky for a couple of hours afterwards, so will have to.

Londoner - I've not packed a bag either yet and given the higher chance of preamture labour with twins I suppose I should get a move on.

Who mentioned smelling nice/baby like/milky? Sadly, not me. I sweat like a pig most days, have terrible gas and swear that some days I'm starting to dribble with stress incontinence too - nice..........

Finding it hard to sleep with big bump now - Hospital measured fundal height at 42cms today and I've still got a long way to go - eek!

Enthusia · 08/09/2005 08:27

Mprning all

Goldenoldie- 42cms, you are a full 12 cms infront of me - wow!!!!!!

ChaCha-Recipe challenge accepted.

Twinkle - Cant help with the itching I'm afraid, haven't had that yet, but the sound of the cool wet towels sounds nice.

Nova - I can't wait to start my antenatal they start next Thursday and Saturday (Hospital and NCT) we will have to swap notes. I am also interested in TENs. What did it feel like on your arm?

Right off to Cambridge in a mo, so won't probably speak til tomorrow. Have a good day everyone!!!!!

Busyalexsmummy · 08/09/2005 08:44

tens-I used a tens machine for my entire labour, its good, but you must put it on as soon as you start getting the first contractions otherwise it wont work well. It feels like someone pinging a elastic band on your back, this stimulates the body to produce natural endorphins.

Word of warning-dont let your partner near it!-whilst in heavy labour i asked dp to turn it down a little for me(i had it on 4 for most of my labour) and he accidently turned it up to 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ouch!!!!!!!!!!

BEKsmum · 08/09/2005 09:54

Morning girls, glad to hear you're all ok.

Chacha, no chance of me posting a recipe I'm afraid as I can literally burn water!!! I even had to check that I was spelling recipe right before I typed this

Tens machine, I'll be hiring one this time as the hospital say they don't really use them any more but I found it great with Ben, it was all I really had as the shot of pethidine I had came too late.
I had it way up by the end, but at one point it had fallen off and I wasn't really aware of it other than dh driving me nuts fiddling around with my back trying to get it back on without me noticing!!!

Had a complete wobble yesterday, floods of tears all day long feeling really panicky that my son has turned into the spawn of satan that I have no control over and the fact that the baby could be as little as 6 weeks away if I only go to 37 weeks like I did with Ben (which is likely given my weight), plus we are skint & feeling the pinch for some reason that hasn't been apparent for the last few months but now seems glarinngly obvious. Oh the joys of fluctuating hormones - don't feel too bad today but just trying not to think about anything!

Am feeling slightly better now I know that I can do a ward visit on any Monday night between now and the birth - phew!

Right best go and do some ironing as off to Wales for the weekend tomorrow.

Speak to you all ater Beks (30+4)

sarahsausage · 08/09/2005 10:01

Good Morning Ladies,

Wish i could say i have just got up but dd woke me at 7.30 this morning, am soooooo tired.

Had midwife appt yesterday and she took blood so i had the usual 10 minute lie down on couch like thingy with a glass of water. (just imagine what i was like having drip in for c section last time lol).

Also, was told baby is in breech position at the moment. I think i was quite relieved to be honest. Would like to try for vbacs but am not bothered at all if i end up having to have a section as then i wouldnt have to worry about getting to hospital in time or having someone to look after dd. But as midwife said still plenty of time for baby to turn.

Recipe idea is great, i dont think i'd have much to contribute, although my pesto pasta is rather tasty and takes just 5 mins

Starting to get tired easily again past week or so, and getting rather uncomfortable size wise. Running around after dd takes all my energy so not getting out much these days either.

Good morning,

What a night! As bump gets bigger I am finding it increasingly difficult to sleep comfortably. I was up and down for most of the night with backache and with symptoms in my legs that are similar to those achey pains you get when coming down with cold/flu. No swelling this morning am pleased to say but am really tired. Have an appt with m/w later and then i'm coming home to try and get some sleep. Third trimester is obviously the hardest (or have i forgotten the sickness of the first?)

Twinkle - Good that the itching has calmed down now. I've heard that lots of pregnant women suffer from it. Wonder if that's next on the list for me.

Nova - Hopefully your DH is recovering well and that you also get some sleep. The thought of a massage when i'm feeling like this would definitely put me out like a light. Bliss!
As for your DH's comments - LOL. My DH was standing behind me last night whe i typed the breaking news message about the value knickers - He was in hysterics for ages much to my embarrassment...

Beks - Hope you're better today. Are you looking forward to the weekend in Wales? Am hesitant to do anymore visits as I'm really feeling uncomfortable right now. Follow your own advise and try not to think about anything, try and have as much as a relaxing day as you can. Put your feet up! Any chance of your folks coming over or a relative/friend to give you a break?
No getting out of the recipe posting Beks, toast n beans recipes would be fine

Sarah - Nice to see you here again. My baby is also in breech, or at least was about a week ago. Am hoping that the m/w will tell me that he's moved this morning but maybe not.

See yall later x

SharonTW1 · 08/09/2005 12:22

Hi Ladies, hope you're all well, as usual only a quickie on lunchtime so haven't read all the thread, can sypmothise with the itching though I get eczema anyway and have been going a bit mad with it the last few days even took a pill last night which I don't like doing.
MY FH is 29cm so far so right with my dates.
Feeling really tetchy and hormonal today think I'll go home.
Will chill out then and maybe log back on athome, getting nearer now girls x x

ChaCha · 08/09/2005 13:27

Hi Sharon - Go home! Put your feet up and pamper yourself this afternoon

Just back from m/w. Baby has moved from breech to head down, do hope that he stays that way! She confirmed that he is on the big side of the scale according to the measurements - what is the average birth weight anyway?

The blood results that showed the haemoglobin levels are okay but a tad low, I have to go back for another blood test at the hospital (groan) to see if they have dropped lower and if so will be given some kind of iron supplement. Anyone had this?
As for the other results that show infection, rubella etc.. they cannot find them!! She is going to call lab this afternoon and let me know tomorrow, may have to have yet another blood test and something to do with checking for rhesus negative and Anti-D...said she wouldnt confuse me until we knew what i was.
Thanks for listening! This is like my online journal.

Don't see anyone now until Week 33!!!!! Is that normal?

29ish

sarahsausage · 08/09/2005 13:43

Hiya Cha Cha,

I am taking pregaday iron tablets at the moment, and have been since my first blood test results came back at abot 13 weeks. Must say i felt so much better when i started taking them, less tired etc. Although recently i havent been taking them, soooo forgetful

Having said that i was supposed to take them when pg with dd but i was only 17 and had never had a repeat perscription so didnt realise, also midwife never made it clear i had to take them for the whole of my pregnancy. Soooo glad i changed hospitals towards the end of pg with dd.

As for appts, i posted not so long ago as i was seeing midwife every 6 weeks and most of you were seeing her every 4 weeks, must just vary depending where you live. Had appt yesterday (28 weeks) and next appt is at 31 weeks.

LilJ · 08/09/2005 14:05

Hi all.

Had 2nd m/w app't today and first Anti-D shot - ouch!!! My bum still hurts - hoping I'll still be able to do yoga tonight. Baby is fine and is currently in right position, but this one's a mover so may decide to go breech at any time. Had a hard time getting heartbeat as baby was not co-operating - moving every time the m/w started getting the machine in place - cute!
Everything is fine and on target and apparently the cramps I was having are completely normal so I feel much better now.

I got my Mat B1 form today and handed it in to our HR person and also gave my boss notice of when I'm leaving (27 Oct), so maybe I'll get some resolution on the various issues going on here soon. But have decided to relax about it and deal with whatever happens when I have the time and inclination. They haven't done anything about getting maternity cover for me so if it all falls apart the moment I leave it will be their problem not mine.

Love the recipe idea, but have no kitchen for at least another 3 weeks! It's amazing how well you can still eat with just a bbq, toaster & microwave. Also impressed at how organized you all are about the hospital bag - I haven't even thought about what kind of bag, let alone what to put in it. Although definitely food will be high up on the list as I've heard the food at Whittington is terrible.

Hope to see some of you tomorrow!

Lil J

Oh dear, haven't been on for about 2 days and its taken over an hour to catch up!

Not sure we can make it to meet up now. Tessa wasn't well at all yesterday - all floppy and very hot. Calpol has more or less sorted her out, as has throwing up all over the sofa, and the fever must have broken in the night as she woke up full of beans this morning. I'll see how we go today but it may be a bit much to venture too far from home so soon. Our last trip to London ended with her throwing up all over Olympia (at The Baby Show - full marks to the people on the Hippychick stall who provided loads of baby wipes and weren't too upset that we scared away business for a good 15 minutes!) so we don't have a good record and she isn't a sicky child.

Love the recipe idea, I'll get thinking as we all love to cook here and new ideas are always welcome.

It was me who posted the yoga exercise for heartburn a while ago, I'll see if I can find it as we haven't done it for a while and I'm not sure how well I remember it - might ask again tonight as I've been needing it again recently. Have resorted to Gaviscon twice in last week though it makes me heave and I'm not sure which is worse.

Don't know about champagne or take-aways in NHS hospitals but my thoughts would be to do it anyway and apologise afterwards if its not allowed. Never ask beforehand because then you can't claim ignorance

Londoner - Glad there's another one hoping for a homebirth on here. I had a really good experience in hospital last time (quiet night, birthpool available, etc) and part of the reason for wanting a homebirth this time is I doubt we could repeat all that.
