Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Londoner · 07/09/2005 13:59

Hello again, just got back from my ante-natal appt and I can't believe how much chatting has gone on since my post this morning... I have to say I'm very impressed girls!
rodeo1 re: me just being into maternity wear, you're very funny, and thank you, I feel very flattered... although I don't know why, it's only because my button-fly trousers have been hanging on for dear life with the aid of so many hair elastics and scarves etc. lol I just couldn't waddle along hoiking up my trousers every 2 mins like a builder any longer! Glad you had such a lovely day in the park yesterday, it's so good to get out and about with the kids isn't it, and you get to do all the fun stuff like paddling pools & racing cars and playgrounds etc that you don't do without kids, ice lolly vans too, yay!
goldenoldie you're having twins, wow that's so amazing, I can't begin to imagine what that must be like, and I feel positively wet for whinging about my size when you're carrying twice as many babies as me, respect to 'your doubleness' I am in awe.... haven't measured my 'waistline' hmm where's that tape measure..
And just read your hilarious review of 'Shark Boy & Lava Girl' LOL ...my daugher really wants to see that but so far I haven't felt able to oblige, it just looks too awful, is it? I am left with the wonderful vision of you fast asleep with your bump and your 3d glasses and your completely enthralled child surrounded by all the 'spectacular action' of such a great movie...lol.
babyonboard I have heartburn almost permanently for the past week now and I just try to avoid sitting down in low sofas as this pushes up bump too high and drink lots of water & lots of milk which does seem to sooth it a bit, don't know if that's any help for what you have though.... but I would have thought lying down flat a bad idea, try & keep your head/heart above the rest of you... put pillows under your matress or books under the head end of your bed, that kind of thing? So you're kept at an angle but still in 'comfort'.... and as novadandypowder says, avoid grease in food and also anything spicy- no sampling of Enthusias gorgeous chilli just yet... although you could have it without the chilli spice & cheese perhaps..?

BTW my appt with the midwife this morning went really well, baby is actually right size for dates.... I'm completely stunned, well that's a first! And just to confuse me its heartbeat is now measuring below 140bpm possibly indicating a boy, up until now its heartbeat has measured consistently over 140bpm indicating a girl..... hmmm, the plot thickens... And I was very pleased to floor the midwife by being 3 fifths engaged already, I thought I was as I feel full term and baby's head in my pelvis is making walking a real propelling challenge over last week, her face was a treat, she looked so worried, I reassured her everything is fine, I'm not having the baby yet. And I was so positive that she has pretty much told me I can have the home birth that I requested... yay.... but also, yikes.... not tried that before...

twinkle1 just saw your post and yes I can identify with your strange feelings at such a quiet house, and must also clean my kitchen, this forum is leading me quite astray!

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 14:33

hi..
i have just gotten my hospital bag too..but I'm worried its too small!
I feel like i'll walk into hospital looking like i'm off on a two week holiday with aall the stuff on my list..hehe
I have my first antenatal class today..have any of you started them, what should i expect? This one is 'women only' which is a bit odd!
thanks for the acid reflux advice..i will ask my doctor about that liquid. It's really hard to avoid fatty and spicy foods as they are my faves! hehe..but i guess it's worth it if it helps.
i am also just thinking about housework rather than doing anything..hehe
it just takes so long these days..i tend to go around the place with a chair and the hoover so i can sit and hoover in a circle around me ..teehee

Londoner · 07/09/2005 14:40

lol, lol, that is so funny babyonboard with tales of your hoovering antics you are spoiling us!

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 15:21

another random question..has anyone else noticed they smell a little like newborn babies!?
or is it just me going crazy again?

bamik · 07/09/2005 15:50

THAT'S IT! That's what I've been smelling to. It's like I can always smell it coming from my chest area. To me it's like a milky baby smell - but to be honest I thought that I was just losing the plot

Anway - good to see that you're all well. Hospital bag??? My goodness - I have not even started yet. The most I have is breast pads!

I've brought a baby carried off e-bay for £9.50, real bargain and it was brand new. I've seen some great bargains on there.

I'm 29 + 3 now and getting more tired. Feet hot and swollen. Only got 6 weeks left at work - YIPPEE!

ChaCha · 07/09/2005 15:52

BoB - Can't say that i've noticed that, interesting though. You're hehe's make me laugh when i read your posts. Are you actually sat there typing chuckling away? Great!

Well, can i moan for a while please?
What started off as a pleasant day has ended in tears. I feel like pooooooh. I won't go in to all the tedious details of my day but i'm feeling really bad. I'm still being sick and my ankles have swollen Just noticed that there is what i can only describe as a bump where there should be a nice smooth line. My wrists also feel a tab puffy, probably doesn't help that am typing all day. Feel tired and heavy and he's definitely moving upwards again as line is way past navel. Anyone else feeling crap? Pls feel free to send me sympathy.
Would you advise yoga if you had sickness and swelling? Was really looking fwd to it but am not so sure now, feel so tired. Supposed to have dinner at our friends after too - food = yuk right now!
Sorry to rant.

ChaCha · 07/09/2005 15:55

xposts Bami!
It is great to see you on the thread again. You always desert us!
How are things? Will we see more posts? I sure hope so xx

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 16:12

Heeheee.(and yes i am sitting here giggling)
i guess the smell might be milk? it's only in the last couple of weeks i have noticed it, coinciding with noticing a bit of white stuff on the inside of my bras...glad i'm not going mad.
i was telling dp last night how I keep hearing a a baby crying, and he thought I was mad, as all our neighbours are single or childless, but i just bumped into new tenants from downstairs who have a 7 week old..he's adorable..and I have regained confidence in my sanity! (ish..hehe)
chacha..sending much sypmathy your way! and i know what it's like to have plans and then really not feel in the mood for it!
as |I do so litle these days I alwyas get dragged along by dp 'you need to get out and about blah blah' , but sometimes you just don't want a bloody exercise class!we were out for dinner with his workmates last week..and i knew i wasn't in the mood..probably ended up looking like a real cow as i wasn't up to much conversation, and in a bit of pain so sat there quietly watching them get drunk..teehee..

novadandypowder · 07/09/2005 16:58

Bob, that hoovering story is classic! I try to do as much as I can sitting down too!!!

I started ante-natal classes last week, second session tonight. Just expect tonight to be more of an introduction of what's coming up in the course, although as a regular on MN you will probably know it all anyway

No smells coming from me of the baby kind, but then again I'm a huge fan of all things artificially perfumed, so have probably killed off anything natural.

Chacha, so far I have got:
Samsonite weekend bag
2 black nighties (plan to wear either hosp gown or nothing for birth)
Travel sized shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, face cream, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush, body cream
Face cleansing wipes
Face powder and lipgloss
Arnica
Renew spritzer and Balancing massage oil from Neals Yard
Evian spray
Lucozade
Sleepsuit for baby to wear home

Thats for a 3 day stay in hospital which is part of my package. I also saw the mum 2 b package from neals yard but thought the same as you, but i did get the baby one though.

rodeo1 · 07/09/2005 17:00

Hi Ladies,

I've had a quiet day too, dd first day back and ds at playgroup until half 12! Done a bit of shopping and a general tidy up, will be like this for the next month or so, so I've got no excuse not to get things organised!

I've got my hospital bag, although it's got nothing in it so far! Body shop stuff is always nice though - can you remember when they used to do a baby range called Mama Toto?? I used to get the baby lotion for my dry skin it smelled lovely - it's a pity they don't do the range any more.

Has anyone heard from LilJ - I do hope she's ok...

Bob - I always laugh at your teehee's too

Londoner - How lovely to have a homebirth, I would love one if I didn't have to have a section! I think that makes 3 of you now, Tessasmum and Cads are after one too I think?

What's everyone having for tea tonight?? I'm currently trying to think up new dinner ideas, Enthusia helped me out yesterday which I will be making next week. I'm just sick of the same things at the mo and anything dp suggests just makes me go 'urgh, no'!! Poor man!!

Right I am off to finish tea now (chicken casserole and new potatoes!), speak to you later

32 weeks today!! x x x

oh and slippers

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 17:06

dp had his heart set on sausage and mash..so i think thats what we are having..i can't face such stodge! i'm way too hot..but it seems silly to cook seperately..hehe
I might just load up on the veggies, sausages and onion gravy and leave out the mash

rodeo1 · 07/09/2005 17:06

Brill list Nova! how about hand mirror? For making up and watching baby coming out (if your not too squeamish!)?

Although you'll probably have a dressing table with a huge vase of lilies and mirror with lightbulbs dotted round it for making yourself beautiful Nova!

And us NHS lot will need nappies too

OP posts:
novadandypowder · 07/09/2005 17:07

sending you cyber [hugs] chacha

Can relate to the puffiness, but chuffed to say thats it's now nearly 4 wks since I was last sick. I think you should just do what your body feels like rather than what your head tells you you should do. If it wants to do nothing and rest, then let it, you'll prob feel better tomorrow for it.

xxxxxx

novadandypowder · 07/09/2005 17:10

oh no rodeo, I don't think I'll stretch to watching baby come out with a mirror!!! I fully expect DH to stay at top end as well, don't want him having bad visions every time he comes near me .

And quite sadly you're almost right - i get a private room and bathroom for relaxing in post birth.

And we get a champagne dinner for two to celebrate

babyonboard · 07/09/2005 17:14

sweet nova! I think some things are worth the cost..and this would be one if me and dp had any chance of affording it!
our hospital is right next to one of our favourite restaurants though, and we know the owners so they have agreed to do a takeaway for us post birth..better than hospital food! not sure an nhs hospital will allow champagne though!

though..maybe i'll ask my midwife..you never know..teeheee

rodeo1 · 07/09/2005 17:17

Ooh it sounds sooo lovely!

I don't mind hospitals in general but this will be my 5th stay. My last stay was due to me breaking my shin bone so I wasn't in the mat ward, but I came out after 5 days and I just reeked of hospitals, My mum came in one day to give me a shower and it was disgusting, not very clean. I had to sit on a dingey chair and all I could see was other people's hair on the floor. Which is my ultimate gross out!

Apologise for sounding so jealous and jaded!!

Busyalexsmummy · 07/09/2005 17:18

oooooooooooh,get you!

Enthusia · 07/09/2005 17:25

Just done dinner

Cor getting well into this cooking lark. Just done a salmon pasta bake after looking in cupboard and seeing loads of ingrediants I thought I could use. Went on BBC food and searched for a recipe and hey presto - just added my own touch in the way of some veggies and it looks and smells great. Yet another fork meal in front of the tv though!!!!

Chicken sounds good rodeo as does sausage and mash - haven't had that for ages!!!!!

Sorry you're not feeling well ChaCha - Sending you some of my energy and wellness, don't take too much though as I am actually believing you CAN enjoy being PG!

Nova - your list is good, I have just seen some great bags in Tesco of all places, a new line their doing and they are the right sort that my DH could use them afterwards for trips away - if they don't get too messy. They seem well made and the flight size one is onlt £7.50 with lots of different pockets for organising .

Great idea about mirror Rodeo, will have to get a handheld one!!! I want to see that, am I the only one?

Enthusia · 07/09/2005 17:26

BoB - take out idea sounds great - are you allowed to do that? It had never occured to me. Not that it helps us as our hospital is in the middle of bloody nowhere!

ChaCha · 07/09/2005 17:33

LOL at Rodeo and Nova
Have visions of butler appearing after the birth with dinner for two, violins in the background, champers on ice and herds of glossy mag photographers waiting for that 'pic of the year'....Have visions of women in NHS type hospital sporting massive bumps...actually i'm going to stop there. I'm stereotyping, can't help myself. Anyway...

Enthusia - Am down to just 2 lush bath bombs! Am sat here waiting for the bath to fill making a decision over which to use (one is the sex bomb one that is really Luuuuush and the other is a plain white one - can't even remember what it is) as if my life depended on it. What is the name of the lush spray you got? I want to add it to my list.

Nova - You are quite right. I'm going to give both my class and friends visit a miss. I have to think of myself - all i want to do is relax in the bath and then sit and do what i wanted to do earlier and that is read a book with my feet up.

Rodeo - I have lots of recipes that i could pass on if you fancy a change. Some are really easy and I go for recipes that are suitable for freezing so that i can freeze half and use for a day when i don't fancy cooking. My friend swears that this was the only way they survived her first birth - they lived off those meals when both of them were too tired. I say that but don't always do it. What do you fancy? Meat, chicken or fish recipes?

Off for bath x

Enthusia · 07/09/2005 17:44

ChaCha

It is actually called 'Breath of Fresh Air' it is in a black spray bottle in with the toners. You get quite a bit and it just makes you feel really fresh!!!!!!

Hmmmmmm - Bath with lush, just going to copy your idea methinks - I've got a bubble bomb with my name on it.!!!!!

rodeo1 · 07/09/2005 17:46

Ooh Chacha, lovely, I'll eat anything! Just give me your favourite! And BTW you really aren't stereotyping NHS hosps - they're really like that! Well they are up here anyway! When I had Joe I was next to 'Neighbours from Hell' family, swearing and all the mother could go on about was her 'fags'! I had to beg the midwife to move me!! Which I have to say she did with no hesitation!! The staff were lovely though

OP posts:
ChaCha · 07/09/2005 17:58

Am back! Bath water too hot and no room for any cold.
Rodeo - do you know what is really funny? I went back and deleted the part where i've placed the ellipsis..I'd actually written something like 'sporting massive bumps as they puff on that desperately needed fag at the automatic doors to the entrance of the maternity ward..'
My experience in both private & NHS here and abroad are definitely different but i've always been treated well, just too well in private that's all We've got to look at it this way..we are lucky to even have the NHS! You should see the state of some government run hospitals abroad, I ended up in one when i had a car crash..what an eye opener! Honestly, it could be so much worse.

Wish the water would hurry up and cool.

Rodeo - Do u want me to post in the recipe section, CAT you or post here?
For starters, how about Greek Cod Casserole (is sooo easy, main ingredient is cod), Easy Lamb Curry (just lamb and spices) and Moroccan Chicken with couscous (all simple meals and can be frozen)
