ewwwwwww yuk! how hidious! thats worse than the E3!

KristinaM · 05/09/2005 20:30

Lil - just so you know.....in America they dont sterilse at all, just wash well ( I'm not American, just happen to know!). Here the advice is to sterilise to 6 months. If you use a pump you will have bits of that to sterilse to, as well as the feeding bottles etc. There is a horn bit that goes on your breast, a little valve and a collection bottle. I just used one of these cold water containers with tablets.

Welcome Londoner

novadandypowder · 05/09/2005 20:42

OMG rodeo thats weird!

Londoner · 05/09/2005 20:48

Hi everyone, and thank you for the warm welcome!

Hey rodeo1 that pushchair is hilarious, what if you drop the handlebar, does the whole thing baby and all just fall backwards, or jolt forwards ? Seems that Phil and his pal Ted have a few practicalities still to work out! Perhaps they should stick to golfing caddies....

goldenoldie · 05/09/2005 21:46

Kirstina - agree with you. In America they don't sterilise bottles either cause everything goes in the dishwasher - which effectively sterilise.

There is also quite a lot of debate in this country too - with some hospitals/midwives telling mums that if they have a dishwasher they don't need any additional sterilising procedures.

I seem to remember a few mumsnet threads on this?

BEKsmum · 06/09/2005 09:54

Morning girls, has anyone got any spare energy they can send my way, I keep nodding off this morning and can't get my act together!!!

Rodeo, that buggy is atrocious, can just imagine it toppling forwards or backwrds when someone brushes past it in the shop or when you overload it with shopping!!

Kristina is sterilising 6mths now I think I was told to do it until 12 months with Ben, I know I did, but then again that might just because I was a bit of a worrier first time round.

Busy I think Xena is on the April thread if not she's on the May one, sorry brain appears to have turned to mush this morning.

Right need to go and put the hoover round before my friends get there with their little ones otherwise I hate to think what they'll manage to pick up and eat!!!

Speak to you all later Beks

Enthusia · 06/09/2005 10:51

Morning all

Cor have you seen how quickly we have rattled through this thread, we are already on 407 messages. We will need a new one soon. WE WILL CATCH UP WITH DECEMBER!!!!!!!!!

DH went to work really early this morning so I went back to bed and have just had a really lazy wake up, shower and breakfast.

Today I have to clean house, go to post office, go shopping and go to the MW. I hope this MW is a bit more interested and I don't wait over an hour for a 5 min rushed apmnt this time.

Have got over being told how small I am by noticing yet another stretch mark and by seeing just how red the other ones have turned over night. I only have 5 bad ones, but they look painful today IYSWIM!

Rodeo I thought that thing was a baby backpack not a pushchair! What is the point in it? I agree with innovation, but shouldn't it come out of necessity not stupidity?????

ChaCha - thanks for the breast leaking info. I have had this for a few weeks but thought it was something to do with the moisturising cream I was using. Only when I stopped using it for a day I thought it must be something else!

In terms of hospital bag how many disposable knickers and maternity pads do you need? Are there some better than others?

I was well happy in terms of sterilisers, I got a brand new boxed and sealed one from Ebay for 99p and only £3 P&P!!!!!! I am turing into an Ebay addict!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, bye for now.

30+4

novadandypowder · 06/09/2005 10:51

no spare energy here i'm afraid, really tired this morning, very tempted to go back to bed but have to go out to knitting class this afternoon.

On the plus side, all this time spent in the study on MN means that the kitten is getting used to me being around and is happy to come out of it's hidy hole and play around me. It's not quite ready for human contact yet and would run a mile if I tried to touch it, but it gives me hope.

Busyalexsmummy · 06/09/2005 10:59

Enthusia-my advice on the maternity towel front is you cant have too many, i was in hossie 2 1/2 days and I went through 3 packs of towels!!
also i am going to get loads more disposable knickers this time around too, as last time i bought a pack of 5 for labour, which i went through in the first 3 hrs of it!! Im going to buy loads so that for the first week or so at home i can just throw them away without having to worry about washing them/stains/leaking etc(sorry TMI!!) IYSWIM

ChaCha · 06/09/2005 11:38

Good morning everyone,

Enthusia - If you look at the PG section I posted a message entitled 'Hospital Bag'. There were a lot of contributions as to what should be packed, some of them I hadn't even thought of (like food for example). Some of the MNers were against the disposable knickers due to the 'crinkly' noise they make when walking and suggested buying cheap knickers instead that you could just throw away (Tescos Value or the like were mentioned) If you do decide on the disposable ones, Mothercare are doing a buy one get second half price on these lines.
As Busy said it's probably a good idea to stock up on maternity pads - a friend told me this just recently. Mothercare is the place to be - good offers!

Nova - Does the kitten have a name yet? Enjoy the knitting class, would like to know how you get on. As for creativity, I'm going to try and make my own baby announcement cards, I've had some good tips on the arts and crafts section. What do you think of these? I really grudge paying the prices for cards etc..outside. It's that bit more personal to do your own don't you think? Check this out:
babycards

Beks - Felt like that yesterday and was really quite sick. Am feeling heaps better today (it seems that when i have a busy/late night i am doomed for the next day) and full of energy that i hope lasts until the house is clean, washing done, dinner on and my latest project: baby website!!

Right, enough babbling. See you all later girls xx

Enthusia · 06/09/2005 12:26

ChaCha - I did see some of the thread about hospital bags but missed the knickers, pads bit!!!! Thought the other things were great ideas though, especially socks and a cooling spray. I bought a gorgeous Lush spray for the birth that smells of 'fresh air' and makes you feel really cool and fresh!!! I have also bought my favourite film on DVD to watch during some of the labour, we are hoping to take in our laptop to watch it on - if time/possible.

I am also making my own birth announcement cards. I am cross stitching mine. Made my own design using 'Bubblegum' picture of a baby - v.cute. I love your card idea! Really cute!

ChaCha · 06/09/2005 13:05

Enthusia I'm stressing at the moment over my MATB1 form. I've just posted a msg on PG but I'm really confused. Are you claiming SMP or MA? And did you just give the MAT form to your employer?
My contract ended Sep 1st so i am eligible for SMP it would seem. Am just writing a quick email to my employer now....terribly confused.

Enthusia · 06/09/2005 13:16

ChaCha.

I am getting SMP. Basically I get 4 weeks full pay, 2 weeks 9/10 pay and 20 weeks at the lower rate statutory maternity pay.

The school had to fill in 3 forms that they got off our LEA website that told about confinement dates, contract length, returning/not returning and maternity start dates. That was it really. Then the head and I had to sign them and I had to forward them my MatB1 - which I forgot to do yesterday, duhh!!!

I hope you get through to your school and sort it out, as our contracts were the same length so you should get the same as me.

rodeo1 · 06/09/2005 13:18

Hello all,

Last day of the summer hols! Oh well, I think I'm really going to miss them! Honestly!! Going to the adventure park this afternoon with them, it's got a big paddling pool so they might even be able to go in if it stays this warm!

Have been to the childrens hospital this morning for a routine appt for Bella's eyes, she was born with a long-sighted and with an inwards squint and she had an operation last year and wears corrective bi-focals. Well the good news this morning is that they will be able to do away with the bi-focals now so she can just wear single lense glasses! Yay!

On the topic of disposable pants, I just bought some cheapo knicks from primark a size too big to accomodate the mattress size maternity pads, which I binned after everything calmed down (well, I claim to have binned, but I still have a few pairs floating around for heavy period days, really must bin them as all the elastic is fraying and they are rather grey!).

My Dad made my birth announcement cards last time! Hope he will this too! He brought his digital camera to the hospital, and then made some really nice cards on photographic paper with Joe's picture, name, weight and birth date and time on them. All I had to do was stick them in envelopes!!

Thanks Enthusia - Just had a reply from work confirming that I am entitled to SMP. Hurray! Will hand in MAT form tomorrow and they will take it from there. One less thing to worry about now

What's the name of the lush spray then? You know what that means now don't you..a trip to Lush for essentials
Love your card idea too - cross stitching, wow!

Rodeo - Great news about Bella Your dad's cards sound fab, can we hire his services? No one that creative here.

Time for lunch x

My mummy is coming down from N Lancs to visit me for a few days, gonna spend some money on baby stuff YAY!! Its 2years today since my dad died (suddenly aged 52 ) so it will be lovely to be with her.

hehe thanks for the rugby advice! I think I'll just have to keep my legs crossed on those days LOL

Went to Dps folks at the weekend and some stoooopid women pulled out nearly driving straight into us, fortunately we weren't going fast and DP is excellent driver, but he couldn't understand why I burst into tears a few minutes later!

xxx

btw...9weeks to go (ish)!!!!

LilJ · 06/09/2005 14:52

Hi all.

I've been having cramps in my lower abdomen for the last 18 hours or so - had terrible nights sleep. They're not too bad so don't want to freak out for no reason. What do Braxton Hicks feel like? I've got a m/w app't on Thursday for my Anti-D so I'll bring up with her, but wondered if this was normal?

Londoner · 06/09/2005 14:53

Hi all, so relieved to read all your messages about MATB1 forms not handed in yet, as I still have to post mine, am determined to do it this week when I return to work.
Also v. relieved on account of some of you saying how tired you feel... SNAP!.... but I still wake up at 5am with a racing brain listing all the things I haven't done and must do IMMEDIATELY, not even wait for sunrise..... killer!
Finally relented & went shopping for some maternity trousers this morning.... managed to get some but they're pretty 'stumpy' looking on... or is that just me? yikes!

V. impressed at your home made cards plan Enthusia and ChaCha, good going.... you must be super organised the pair of you. And rodeo1 that's really good news about your daughter's eye sight, sounds like you've been through a lot together.

Anyone else feeling utterly enormous here? I feel like I'm full term already? My 'ald' stretch marks are a-tingling under pressure (tmi sorry).

31 weeks.

pinkminx79 · 06/09/2005 15:04

HI Londoner

I'm gonna take all my forms to the job centre tomorrow and get the ball rolling, that'll be one less thing to worry about...although knowing me, they'll be something else LOL

i feel huge, i'm sure i get bigger everyday, its gonna be a shock for my mum, she saw me just after i found out i was pregnant in March (about 8weeks)
But I feel prettier, its like i can eat rubbish, get fat, and i'm ALLOWED TO BE FAT LMAO!!!

Finding sleeping a pain...literally, she likes to jab my ribs and start squirming as i am trying to get cosy!

xx

31 weeks

Enthusia · 06/09/2005 16:26

Just been to MW. All is fine. My BP is back to textbook levels and the white blood count from last time, she thinks is nothing!

Bubs is head down with limbs to the right of my body. Heartbeat was easy to find and strong. She said that my fundal height was only 30, and this was my 31 week appointment, but I'm not 31 weeks til Friday, so that shouldn't be anything to worry about should it? She said if I was 2cm out at the next Drs appointment she would send me for a scan.

Rodeo - great news on the glasses!

ChaCha - great news on the SMP!

I've just bought my aida and thread for my cards so might start that after I've cooked the dinner for tonight.

ChaCha · 06/09/2005 16:40

Hi Enthusia - all sounds well I wish i knew what position baby is right now, I would never have guessed that he was breech if it wasn't for the scan. I have m/w appt no.2 on Thursday.
Card making seems exciting - I've never tried before so am looking forward to the challenge. I need to walk into town this week and collect the materials needed. What are you making for the dinner? When energetic this morning I readied the ingredients for DH's fav pie but am now feeling a little on the 'slow' side...best get on with it before I really can't be bothered i suppose.

No stretch marks as of yet but what is funny is the way my operation scars have just sort of spread across my lower tummy...really strange. As for sleeping, like you Pinx, when i get comfy baby decides it would like to have a move around -don't know why but i find myself in hysterics, is often ticklish.

Skulks to kitchen ..

Enthusia · 06/09/2005 16:57

Just done a chilli topped with cheese scones and extra cheese!!!! Smells wonderful. Only problem with cooking it now, want to eat it!!!!!!!

I am looking forward to starting my cards. Where are you getting your bits from? We have a few good book/crafy shops here which are good value for money. My Mum is into card making and often gets some bargins. We also have a huge stamp shop here, so if you have any problems finding the stamp you want just shout.

Hope your pie comes together, sounds more intricate than my chilli!

I had no idea what way round bubs was either until now. It is great finding out though, I feel I have a bit more of an insight into what's going on in there.

rodeo1 · 06/09/2005 17:07

Hi all,

just got back from the park, it's been really sunny and the kids loved the paddling pool!! They also went on some little racing cars where they push a pedal to go with their feet, you have to be age 4-11, but poor Joe is only 3 and a half and a bit on the small size but dp just snook him on! and he only had a few crashes before he got the hang of it! The official end to our summer hols!

Enthusia good news from the MW! Your bub's is exactly the same as mine, with its limbs down the right side, I wonder if thats the common position? There is an optimum position for birth, as they twist when coming down the birth canal but I can't remember if it's facing right or left? Hmmm...

Londoner, are you only just into maternity wear?! Wow! And isn't this your 4th? That must be some kind of record! (Not number of children but number of children combined with lateness of mat wear!)

Pinkminx, you're mum's going to be in for a shock! Haha! The meet up is on Fri, I'm not going but quite a few are and none of us have met before so don't worry about crashing!!

Actually, I had dream I went to the meet up and I knew quite a few of you from real life! One was my dd's teacher, can't remember the rest but it was wierd!!

Anyway off to cook tea and get the washing in as it looks like rain!

BTW I've only got 5 weeks to go!!! OMG!!!!!!!!

goldenoldie · 06/09/2005 17:12

PinkMinx - Ldn meet if Friday 9 September. 12:30, at Wagamammas. Upstairs in the N1 centre, Islington. N1 centre is opposite Angel Islington tube.

Would be great if you could join us.

Londoner - I feel huge too. Waist measures 46 inches now and midwife fully expects me to end up 50+..............

Trying to sleep is a nightmare with two bubs squirming away inside.

Managed to misplace my mobile yesterday. Going mental trying to find it - pregnant brain syndrome.

Just taken ds to see 'shark boy and lava girl'. I fell asleep with my 3d glasses on - that's how good it was!

rodeo1 · 06/09/2005 17:15

Enthusia, that sounds gorge!!! Chilli with cheese scones on the top - Wow! How do you make the cheese scones for the top? You must share the recipe! Pleeeeaassseeeee!!!!!!!!!
