Hello folks!

How is everyone feeling?

We've now told my family and will be seeing DH's on the bank hol to tell them.

Told a few randoms as well, including the lovely Lush lady (who's been like my personal shopper since before we got married!) who recommended this to help prevent stretch marks. (Apparently we're not supposed to use anything with lavender in the first trimester, I didn't know that Confused).

I've been lucky, being off school for the hols means it's been easy to hide out completely. Hope I can get the 12wk scan in and sorted pretty quick in september - the ladies in the department will recognise it immediately!

So there's a bunch of londoners, anyone else from Devon?!

Umanayana · 15/08/2010 23:07

Thanks for the welcome everyone, and for the list adding youngblowfish. I am a 'saaaf' Londoner but escaped to sunny surrey about 9 years ago. The Londoner in me comes out when I am angry though! I will also be 35 when this one comes along, I was only 24 when I had DS2 so feel ancient now!

Both of my boys have just come downstairs. They are usually excellent sleepers, perhaps they are trying to prepare me for future sleepless nights? Right, off to lay down the law!

Daisy17 · 16/08/2010 09:57

Hey all - so, definitely wishing I hadn't moaned about not feeling ill enough! Last few days have been constantly nauseous, eating Pringles constantly for the salt, and yesterday I nearly threw up in DP's dad's bathroom just as DP's brother arrived to introduce his new gf to us!! Erk! Thankfully it wore off in time....... So glad I'm on school hols at the mo and don't have to do anything or be anywhere specific - what are the odds on it going away by Sept?! Hmm

Daisy17 · 16/08/2010 10:07

Petalouda, I see you are in the same boat re teaching - have you drawn up any coping plans for the start of term?!

stuffedmk · 16/08/2010 11:52

I have an appt with the doc on Wednesday (will be 7 weeks exactly) then reckon I should get an appt with MW a week or two later.
I am hoping to get GP to send me for an early scan due to MC last time, dunno how likely it is I'll get one though? Can't afford to pay for it but am driving myself nuts worrying.

Am currently struggling with food and drink, I can never figure out what I want. Everything makes me feel crap....The only thing that helps the nausea is dry cream crackers (yummy Confused)

I have only told one person (other than DH and DS) as last time we told everyone early on then had to tell them when it went away Sad
I just can't face everybody's sympathy if it goes wrong again. It's obviously lovely to know people care but everytime anyone tried to comfort me it just made me blub more.
Will tell everyone if we get a good twelve week scan.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/08/2010 12:47

I've been to the GP this morning about my bleeding. She was lovely and very reassuring, and there was a very dark line on the pregnancy test she did. She can't refer me until I have been spotting/bleeding for 7 days continuously, so she is going to call me on Wednesday morning and then refer me to the EPU for a scan.

stuffed - the eating thing is a nightmare isn't it? I feel sick ALL the time and the only thing I can really eat is loads and loads of carbs. Today I have had white toast, more white toast and beans on white toast for lunch Hmm

stuffedmk · 16/08/2010 12:54

Hmmmmm, beans on toast?...Is that what I want?...Nope don't think so....dammit, thought we had something there lol!!

Hope the bleeding sorts itself out, 7 days seems a long time, keeping fingers crossed for you!!!

Stuffed wanders off to look in the fridge and try to find something that doesn't make me hurl Hmm

Ulysses · 16/08/2010 13:03

Oh, I am also 35 and have a four year old! I am think that the MS has subsided a litte though has possibly been replaced by indigestion.

I am sticking with white bread too (maybe the cause of my indigestion?) and have had two slices of toast and a tomato and salad cream sandwich. Have also to taken to sucking on sour cherry boiled sweets to get rid of that constant watery mouth.

Still no word from midwife yet though.

gormers · 16/08/2010 15:40

I am sooooooo hungry!! Despite eating like a hobbit?! Anyone else this bad?!

takethatlady · 16/08/2010 16:53

gormers I'm not hungry, I'm thirsty. I've given up tea (I used to drink, before last month, about six cups a day with two sugars in Grin) so I'm now on about three bottles of water and four pints of orange squash a day!

But I'm pretty much symptomless. Is anyone else? I'm worrying now because I had sore boobs and now they don't hurt. Plus I did a stupid crappy Boots test today and the line was fainter than on my Tesco's tests (they are less sensitive so I know I'm being an idiot).

Went to the doctor and got this huge pack of stuff from them - had to fill out a form asking me if I'm homeless, if I have a partner or not, if the father is a blood relation Shock, if I'm a drug or alcohol abuser (maybe the last one a little bit but I'm not telling them that Grin). Somehow felt relieved being able to tick no, yes, no, no!

Also my cycles were 7 weeks so my last period was 26th June, which means they think I'm 7 weeks preggo (I'm 4) and I'll get an early scan. They dated me at 3rd April but these doctors, they know nothing! But I want the early scan so I don't care :)

jenduck · 16/08/2010 18:04

My sympathies to everyone suffering morning sickness/nausea/anything else. It must be horrible, I hope it passes soon for you.

Thinking sticky thoughts for Alibaba, at least now you have seen medical person so they should know what's what

takethatlady I also went for the paperfest that passes as a first antenatal appointment today. Really nothing happened except she filled in a load of forms, took my BP (normal) & my weight (ugh - but she said not too bad) & checked that my last pg was OK. Did raise eyebrows a bit at emCS last time, but that can't be helped.

Got to try & go for blood test this week, & then see midwife soon after that.

Still feeling pretty symptomless (not even really tired for the past week or so, just needing to pee a lot + no period), but doc said that was normal & probably better than loads of sickness, etc, & I can see her point!

Anyway, that's all for now, have a good evening all Smile

ihaveaplan · 17/08/2010 00:07

OMG gormers and ttl so glad to see you here! Glad we have a JS grads thread too Grin I shall bop over there and sign on.

I'm trying desperately hard to keep shush but am surrounded by family 24/7 so it's damn hard. Went to see the doctor today who told me not to fuss at all and I didn't need to book into maternity services until I was back home (will be 10 weeks by then ) which is a shame as I was hoping for an early scan.

I find the santogen mother to be tablets quite easy to swallow by the way - have stocked up on them as you can take them whilst BFing.

No real nausea yet (fingers crossed) but I'm waiting for it to kick in with a vengeance. I am very hormonal and weepy/snappy though.

ScumbagCollegeGraduate · 17/08/2010 08:13

Hello all!

Am a regular but have namechanged for this thread due to not wanting to be outed in RL until ready Grin

I am 6w1d and due around 11th April.

Went to the doctors last week and was told to come back at 10 weeks in order to get a transfer to the hospital. And was told that my first scan wouldn't be until 16 weeks Shock I'm sure last time I had a scan ealier than that Hmm

Anyhoo, I feel like shite every day - tired and nauseous Sad

Sorry to hear of the posters who have had to leave the thread Sad

So ya! Hello (and g'day Wink)

Grin
Sunshine28 · 17/08/2010 10:31

Love the name ScumbagCollegeGraduate!

I feel pretty crap every day too - sooooo tired and nauseous. Felt like going to sleep under my desk at work yesterday and then had to join them for a drink after work when all I wanted to do was go home and sleep. I efintely got some strange looks when I ordered sparkling water with lime! Let's hope today will be better.

I will be 10 weeks when I have my first appointment with midwife and then not sure how long I will have to wait for scan.

When I was at the doctor's surgery two weeks ago, was so diappointed that I had to wait for a month to see the midwife that I started blubbing. How embarassing. Am not lookig forward to my next visit! Blush

youngblowfish · 17/08/2010 11:31

I am also tired and hormonal despite sleeping a lot, but no nausea as yet. To lighten up the mood though, I googled some pregnancy jokes and wanted to share:

A woman went to the doctor's office. She was seen by one of the new doctors, but after about four minutes in the examination room, she burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped and asked her what the problem was, and she explained. He had her sit down and relax in another room.

The older doctor marched back to the first and demanded, "What's the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was PREGNANT?"

The new doctor smiled smugly as he continued to write on his clipboard.

"Cured her hiccups though, didn't it?"

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 17/08/2010 13:27

Very good joke blowfish, that made me smile :)

Hello Scumbag

Well the good news is that the spotting seems to have stopped - had the tiniest bit yesterday morning and then nothing since and I am still sicky and starving hungry all the time. So trying to be positive.
Going to lie to the GP though and say that I've still got spotting so that I get a scan - is that wrong? I just feel that 5 days continuous is enough to be worried even though the hospital's criteria is 7 days! Blush

MissWooWoo · 17/08/2010 14:10

Hi all

5 weeks today and still here but feeling nervous as more brown spotting today. Hey ho, nothing much I can do but hope that it all works out.

Saw my consultant yesterday regarding an underlying medical issue which could interfere with pregnancy and for which I take 75mg asprin daily. Thought I might be able to get a scan before the usual 12wks because that is what happened with my dd (due to medical condition) but apparently no! despite the fact that I have since had a miscarriage I "no longer fit the criteria" and that also since the change of govt they cannot refer me direct to the hospital (like they did for my previous pregnancies), instead I have to go to my GP ad get his referral ... it's all to do with funding apparently. What a ridiculous waste of money and resources! Right, rant over.

So not really feeling any symptoms other than a little bit tired and possibly a stronger sense of smell (or maybe I am just a bit, um, smelly today). Feeling very nervous about the next few weeks as my miscarriage started at 6.5 weeks. I really would like some nausea ... I expect that sounds mental to those of you currently heaving their way through the day. It's just such a good sign that all is well.

Blimey, not a very cheery post from me Blush. Thanks all for the welcome and a big hello back.

Sprinkling sticking dust all around

MissWooWoo · 17/08/2010 14:10

oh, meant to add that I am in south london too

BeetleBaby · 17/08/2010 17:28

Heya,

Blowfish, your joke gave me the giggle I needed after today. I feel horrid, I was >this< close to saying I had a migraine and needed to go home just because I was so tired and the nausea was so bad. I found anything lemon flavour works well (juice/hot water/fanta!) along with the good old ginger biscuits! Anyway, I made it to the end of the day and just hope the rest of the week isn't so bad because I've got loads to do!

Okay, TMI alert has anyone else been suffering with constipation? I'm no stranger to it because I have to take iron supplements due to anemia but the last couple of weeks have been awful (6 days without, and not for lack of trying!). I've resorted to dried apricot and apple which seem to be getting things moving, so to speak, but I thought some of you may have remedies of your own to share?

Anyway, I'm off to find some pickled onions (not sure whether that's a pregnancy craving or my general love of pickles!)

Beetle

P.S I'm in Oxford so not too far from the growing London crowd!

SaorAlba · 17/08/2010 17:58

Beetle , I've got constipation too. I've been eating fruit and fibre for breakfast and eating fruit with my lunch time salad. I've also been drinking a home made smoothie with breakfast every day - whole peaches, strawberries, blueberries and apple juice all whizzed up together. It's not unbearable, but I'm guessing that's because I've been eating all this stuff!

Hallo to everyone. I'm a first timer from Scotland, so geographically pretty far from a lot of you!

My boobs are absolutely killing me. Went and bought.a new bra yesterday that's not underwired and it seems to have made a difference today. I've gone up a cup size already and I'm only 7+1.

MissWooWoo · 17/08/2010 18:29

prune juice is brilliant for getting the bowels moving

MissWooWoo · 17/08/2010 18:30

make sure you're near a loo about 4 hours after drinking it though Grin

youngblowfish · 17/08/2010 18:49

I'm so happy the joke made some of you smile :).

Beetle, I feel your pain. There are a few things that help me:

  1. some form of gentle exercise, yoga or swimming in my case, can be amazingly effective at moving things along (if you're interested, there are specific yoga positions to help with constipation or trapped wind and I found them very helpful)
  2. porridge for breakfast, every morning
  3. eating prunes or plums
  4. drinking a lot

SaorAlba, I might follow your lead and go underwear shopping with the emphasis on comfort for the first time ever Wink. Week 5 and my modest pair decided to go up a size as well.

dopeydinah · 17/08/2010 19:52

Hello everyone,
I'm a mumsnet virgin, so please be gentle with me :)
Mind if I join you?
I think I'm due somewhere around the first week of April (sorry for being so vague!) but won't find out til I get a scan. Had my first GP visit yesterday and she said it might be another 8 weeks before I get a scan so it'll feel like torture before too long.
I've got 3 kids already and I'm currently (and worryingly!) symptom-free!

Nice to meet you all x

AprilMeadow · 17/08/2010 22:48

Hi all, another one to add to the list please.

Am 7wks & 1 day with number 4! Ds is 5yrs born in April 05, dd1 is 3 born in April 07 and dd2 is 11mths born in September 09. My edd at the moment is the 4th April! Oh and i will be 30 10 days after due date..

NitNat, nice to see you on here, but sad to see that Snowfalls had to leave us :(

I cant believe how many of us there are already!

Been lurking for a few weeks so feel like i know you quite well :)

Off to get something to eat to help with the nausea
