Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
youngblowfish · 09/08/2010 08:51

Hello ladies,

First of all, congratulations! Let's hope for a few uneventful months ahead of us. Best of luck to everyone who had to drop off the thread as well, I really hope it won't be long before you are back on the ante-natal threads again.

I got a BFP on Sunday morning, so I think I can tentatively join you. If everything goes well, we'll have our fist baby by the 20th of April 2011. It still feels very surreal since July was our first month of trying and, as much as I was very impatient to fall pregnant, I am taken aback by how fast it happened!

Symptoms:
supernatural sense of smell
breasts already went up a cup size
feeling thirsty constantly and then having to wee all the time
slight dizziness and slight tiredness

I am planning to make an appointment with my GP when I am 7-8 weeks gone, but I am going to see a dentist tomorrow. It was meant to be an ante-natal check-up Grin.

I want to share he good news with our parents, but I'll have to see whether DH has any objections. I still can't quite believe it and I really hope everything goes well.

SaorAlba · 09/08/2010 09:26

I called my doctor this morning and got given an appointment this afternoon. Living in a rural village community clearly has its advantages!

Will let you all know this afternoon how it went so that those of you also having a first LO will have an idea what to expect. I'm so excited Grin

jenduck · 09/08/2010 09:30

whizzylala - I think your feelings are pefectly normal & natural! I also was not as thrilled as I imagined being about no. 2, because I was worried about finances. But I think that in reality it was just the shock that it had actually happened & so quickly, I am really excited now. It will be great having 2 older children, they will dote on the baby - I myself had a sister 3 years older & 1 7 years older, it was great - and we never knew any different!

youngblowfish - congrats on falling so quickly. I know it can be a big shock, can't it! I would advise you to hold off with the dentist, though, as you get a card entitling you to free basic dental work & prescriptions during pregnancy & until 1 year from baby's due date (can't remember when it goes from though, I think is later than 12 weeks)

youngblowfish · 09/08/2010 10:19

Jenduck, thank you for the advice. It is too late for me to cancel the appointment and I was due for a check-up anyway. If I need any work done, which is not terribly likely, I will hold off for a couple of months. Perhaps not being able to have the anaesthetic will be sweetened by not having to pay for it :).

I just spoke to my parents and shared the news with them, but it still feels very surreal. It all went well, they were happy for us but quite amazed that it happened so quickly (we only got married last month, although we have been together for 8 years and lived together for the last 6).

Oh dear, everything feels so odd. I want to be relaxed and laid back about everything, but I think I am still really surprised.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/08/2010 10:41

Hello everyone - this had dropped off my Thread's I'm On!

Sorry to those who have had to drop off :(

I'm feeling really sick in the mornings now unless I eat pretty quickly, no actual puking yet but I'm sure it's only a matter of time!
Had a bit of spotting last night but nothing morning this morning and my sense of smell has gone into overdrive which I'm going to take as a positive sign.

Bit annoyed because I can't get booked in until 10+5 by which time I'll be pushing it to get in for a nuchal fold scan.

BeetleBaby · 09/08/2010 17:32

Hey everyone,

My thoughts are with those that have had to drop off this thread. Sad

First day back at work today after a nice long week off and I spent the day feeling like I had a big neon sign above my head saying 'Pregnant - and keeping it a secret for now!' This morning one of the girls I work with came into my office and saw me munching my way through a bag of raw carrots and just casually jokes "That's a lot of carrots, you pregnant or something?!" At which point I'm pretty sure I did a good impression of a startled earwig in my not so smooth attempts to laugh the comment off. Blush

Other than that I'm just totally cream crackered and can't believe how faraway Friday is. Now where's my fleecy blanket? My sofa is calling me for nap time...

kitstwins · 09/08/2010 18:22

Really sorry to hear about those who have dropped off the thread.

MWA1F - Funnily enough a tarot/palm reader in Spain once told me I had twins in my hand. I assumed that she was referring in a more generic sense as one of my best friends at the time (and now) is a twin. "Interesting" I thought, but concentrated more on the fac that she said I wouldn't marry my boyfriend at the time (she was right - I had nooooo intention of doing so). Fast forward 10 or so years and KABOOM twins!

If it is twins then you are blessed. They are the best magic that has ever happened in my life and I would chose them over and over. Mine are IVF twins and we had to argue to have the second embryo replaced as the clinic was trying to limit its multiple birth figures. We were just trying to maximise our chances for one baby, ANY baby so we argued and argued - and won. And even though the first year was really, really tough and it is harder than singletons I've never regretted our choice. If you gave me a time-travel kit I would make the same choice, even through all the crappy first few months when we were clueless and sleep-starved.

As for the bleeding, this has tailed off today so unless I get any more I'm going to sit it out until my seven week scan. This is a week on Wednesday, which currently feels a millennia away, but having waited two and a half years to get pregnant again my reserves of patience are now quite good. Also, if I'm really honest, I'm not sure if there is anything in there. I've not many symptoms at all to speak of and so the longer I can prolong finding that out the better. Nothing like a good bit of denial!

Welcome to all the latest BFPs also. It's getting to be a good list.

gormers · 09/08/2010 20:38

My first day at work since finding out, spent the whole day at work nearly blurting put things to people ( especially the young mums/ pregnant women. I'm sure I'll let slip well before the 12 weeks are up!

Bad bad headache all day - but I think that's just caffeine withdrawal. Then at the end if the day, felt really nauseous ?psychosomatic ?the real thing.

Also a lot of cramps, just like period pain. I read that that can be normal, bit that didn't stop me worrying all day that I was about to bleed.

Oh gosh, I'm not sure I can take this crazy brain for the next 9 months!!!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/08/2010 09:25

Gormers that crampy pain is normal, it's just everything stretching and getting out of the way :)

kitstwins - when is your scan?

mipi75 · 10/08/2010 10:59

Hello all.

Can I join? Am due 10th April 2011 with #3. TTC for about 12 months and was going through the blood tests and scans at hospital for possible fertility issues. Thankfully got my BFP last week.

Can't wait to tell friends and family in RL but will wait for a couple of weeks, as I have a teenage son to tell first!!!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

XXX

silkenwings · 10/08/2010 11:10

Hello everyone,

I haven't had morning sickness yet, though have felt lethargic and food phobic in the AM. But that doesn't count, or does it?

I have strangely gone off coffee and tea, miss those...people at work quite puzzled as I used to be a real caffeine junkie.

Anyhoo, no appointments set up yet as am still waiting for the hospital to get in touch.

I have planned on getting an early scan done at 8 weeks, hopefully that will stop the sleepless nights.

hope you are all having a great day!

youngblowfish · 10/08/2010 11:38

Good morning, pregnant ladies :)

I thought I could add myself to the list:

oska, edd end March

SaorAlba, edd 11th April
dasha, edd mid April
youngblowfish, edd 20th April
Snowfalls108, edd?

Osch, I am also worried about not having been sick just yet, but I googled it and I think morning sickness starts at 6 weeks on average.

I feel fine, have no medical issues, I am relatively young and fit and have no history of mc and yet I am still worried whether my bean will stick. I really wish I could be laid back and relaxed about it, but instead I just pace around the flat when I am on my own, signing to my relatively flat belly 'stick, beanie, stick'. [where is the mad woman emoticon when one needs it?]

On a more sane note, I am planning to re-do my pregnancy test before seeing the doctor next week as I am anxious to see the hCG surge. I did my first test on Sunday, any ideas how long I should wait to see the change? I really don't want to be the anxious first timer that I am, but ATM I can't seem to be able to help myself :).

Lushy28 · 10/08/2010 12:20

My partner is the only one who knows. Am dying to tell my Mum and friends. How long are you planning on waiting? (if you haven't already told anyone) :)

kitstwins · 10/08/2010 16:31

Alibaba - scan is a week tomorrow, when I'll be 7 weeks. My clinic normally scan at 6 1/2 weeks but as that falls on the weekend I'll have to wait a little longer. And then, assuming all is well, when I'm 8 weeks I'm booked in to see my consultant. I think when I get to 12 weeks it all might feel a bit more real. I find this first bit goes really SLOWLY and, as I don't feel particularly pregnant, a bit anticlimactic.

No symptoms really still - sore breasts and knackered in the afternoon but nothing overt.

Ho hum.

Ulysses · 10/08/2010 17:47

Hi Lushy and youngblowfish and all the other new additions to April. Gosh, it's really filling up!!

Lushy I am dying to tell people just so I can explain why I am the way I am. Am so tired and nauseous and have endured a headache all day. I'm at a point where I'm fed up feeling like this and looking forward to the second trimester so I can a. look pregnant, b. feel better and c. able to announce freely that I am pregnant!!

It's quite cruel to endure the affect this all has on your body but feel that it needs to be kept under wraps. I suppose it's the fear that something may go wrong that's stopping me. Will be in my seventh week tomorrow (well 6 weeks 0 days, anything to make it go quicker!)

With close friends and family we will tell them the weekend after next but that is because our DD start school next week and I'd rather she have her moment. She's not that keen on a DS or DB anyway!!

Was hoping on something through the posts with a date for my booking in appointment. Doc said that will be at about 10 weeks and hoping that the scan is a couple of weeks after. Quite envious of those of you who have got some sort of appointment in the diary already.

BeetleBaby · 10/08/2010 18:32

Hello all, and welcome to the new additions!

I got my scan appointment through today for 22 September. It's at 8.15am so hopefully they won't be running behind at that time in the morning, though it is debatable whether I'll be awake and coherent at that time!

I caved and told one of my BF today, we work together and it's quite nice to know that when I feel especially crap I can go and speak to her and she knows the real reason why Smile

I've felt very queasy today (but still no actual trips to bow to the Porcelain God) and have had a real craving the last couple of days for raw fruit and veg, carrots and peppers especially, though I still can't get a wiff of chocolate without turning green Sad

DH and I have started looking for somewhere a bit bigger to live. Currently we're in a 1 bed basement flat which is very cold and damp. Unfortunately there's not much around that is in our price range. We're obviously too Yorkshire about our finances as we make the mistake of comparing what 1k per month would get us back home. I hate house hunting, such a faff! All the estate agents seem to want us to jump through hoops for them put have no leeway for us, and then are happy to charge us a packet for not doing anything Angry

Rant over, sorry about that ladies, I'm blaming the hormones Wink

Sunshine28 · 10/08/2010 18:48

No problems about the rant BeetleBaby - that's what the forum's here for :)

In terms of scans and midwife appointments. How much time do you all have to wait?

I went to see my doctor last Thursday (5 Aug) and he didn't give me any info, telling me that the midwife would be my direct contact for all pregnancy related things.

I then went to book my appointment with mid-wife and won't see her till 31 August. She will then book me in for a scan after that.

I will be 9 weeks when I see the midwife for the first time. Is this normal?

I thought I would have seen her before then as it is my first baby and she would give me info on nutrition etc. but I guess the NHS is pretty busy!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/08/2010 19:01

Sunshine you won't really get any info on nutrition etc from the NHS - they basically leave you to it!

I am on DC2 so please ask any questions! I know all the 'rules' so to speak but don't necessarily stick to them :)

I haven't got a booking in appt. until the 2nd of September, by which time I'll be 10+5 so they will have to be quick to get me in for a nuchal fold. Bit annoyed, but the midwife is on holiday for 2 weeks starting next week and there is no cover so there is a backlog developing!!

I am knackered today - didn't feel sick this morning so thought 'hurrah I can get loads done' and then was totally done in by lunchtime.
I hauled out all my maternity stuff earlier and went through it to see what is nice/knackered/horrid and I think I must have had a style bypass when I was pregnant with DS. Some things are nice but some are vile and I have put them in the charity pile!

emptyshell · 10/08/2010 19:21

I'm due 11th April if all goes to plan (been to the docs today about some brown spotting last night and have a scan booked in 2 weeks when I'll be 7 weeks gone - even though the doc didn't seem too worried about it all).

After trying for 3 years, and a miscarriage very early on in May - this one's been sternly warned to stay put.

SaorAlba · 10/08/2010 20:22

Hi all.

Had an appointment at the doctor on Monday. Dr reckons I'm further on than I thought so EDD now April 4th. Can't update the list as I'm on my phone.

I'm therefore 6+1 today. After Dr appt I was told to call the midwife. So I did and had a wee chat to them. They're going to give me a pack that I need to pick up this week and have a read of. My booking in appointment is not until Sept 13th - 11weeks though, which is crappy news.

That means I won't hear about a date for my scan until after then so the likelihood is that it won't be at 12 weeks - more like 13 or 14. Aaaaages away anyway.

Hopefully it'll be a really thick pack of literature and it will keep me distracted for a few weeks!

In other news felt pretty dizzy this afternoon and quite nauseous. Yay! Hopefully is a good sign that things are progressing nicely Grin

It's so difficult not to tell people. I'm convinced my mother is going to guess. We've also got a family wedding on Sept 11th, and folk are definitely going to assume I'm pg if I'm not drinking.

My BF, who's male, is moving to London in my tenth week. It's about 600miles from here, so he's going to miss pretty much the whole pregnancy and the birth as we can't just pop to visit each other. I'm sure he's going to be gutted at missing it all, so we're discussing telling him before he goes - I'd prefer to tell him in person than over the phone.

Hope nobody's feeling too ill. Tinternet assures me that the tiredness will pass and we'll all have loads of energy in our second trimester!

Gosh It's good to have people to 'talk to' :)

Jaq13 · 10/08/2010 23:10

Hi everyone,

just realised that in the excitement of posting my BFP I forgot to include my due date so I've added it to the list below

oska, edd end March
Alibabaandthe40nappies, edd 28/29th March
Petalouda, edd 28th march-2nd April
BeetleBaby, edd: 31 March/1 April
Lushy28 edd: 1 April
livviloo, edd 1/2 April
nuttysquirrel, edd 4th April

NotAnotherNewNappy, 6th April (1 DD, she'll be 2yr 7mo by my edd)
kitstwins, edd 7th April
Ulysses, edd 7th April
Osch, edd 8th April
Thaney, 8th April
silkenwings, edd 9th April
ihaveaplan, edd 10th April
SaorAlba, edd 11th April
Jaq13, edd 12th April
dasha, edd mid April
youngblowfish, edd 20th April
Snowfalls108, edd?

Symptoms: I'm amazed how quickly my breasts have become tender (time to put away the underwired bras and dig out the pregnancy-wear pile from last time) and how dizzy and queasy I've been feeling. I was lucky enough not to get morning sickness with DS but think things might be different this time :(

So, I'm beginning to feel an overwhelming desire to stock up on ginger biscuits and herbal teas but something tells me people at work might start to ask questions if I'm scoffing those all day Wink

I seem to have developed complete amnesia as to what happens when during pregnancy. We had a nuchal scan with DS but I can't remember how many weeks in this was. Anyone any ideas how early you can get a nuchal scan?

Maybe it's time to invest in another pregnancy book - I thought I'd be so much better prepared this time but seem to have forgotten everything!

Zidonie · 11/08/2010 08:25

Hello everyone!

My name is Zidonie and I am pregnant. Smile

I had my first BFP on Friday morning and got three more in the following days so it must be true. This was my 10th cycle of TTC#2.

According to MN, EDD is 15 April.

Can't wait to have big boobs again!!

Sunshine28 · 11/08/2010 09:43

Congrats Zidonie - I wonder how big my boobs will get? That leads me to the question of the whole underwired bra thing. When do we need to start thinking about getting one?

I also have a million other (quite ridiculous) questions. If anyone knows the answers, please let me know!

  1. I am taking Sanatogen 'Mother to Be' vitamins - 18 vitamins & minerals including Folic Acid. Should I be taking anything else?

  2. I didn't take any folic acid until the start of my sixth week as wasn't exactly trying for a baby :) What is the likeliness of this being hearmful?

  3. Can I get highlights done in the hairdressers while pregnant? I remember hearing years ago that pregnant women are not supposed to dye their hair?

  4. How much exercise are you all taking? I have been feeling so ill and exhausted after work that have not been doing anything. Should I start a pregnancy yoga class? If so, at how many weeks?

  5. We have a few very annoying flies buzzing around the office. My colleague sprayed some 'fly spray' yesterday. I tried to keep out of the way while she was doing it, but did kind of feel a bad taste in the back of my throat later on. Any advice for what I should do next time? I hope it hasn't harmed the baby in an way......

Sorry I sound a bit paranoid, but with first baby on the way and not being able to tell my family and friends, have been storing up all of these questions!

Phew! I think that's it for the mo. No doubt I will have some more silly questions soon!

:)
