thanks for all your support.....xx have a feeling I am going to need it over the next while..Smile

Kitty..sorry just saw that you had the scan when i reread the board..am delighted it went well for you as well. Sorry didnt answer sooner was and still am in shock.

SarahJinx · 14/10/2010 21:11

Hey all

I'm new, scan on Tuesday and I'll be 12+2 - due date 29th April. I feel shocking, sick 24/7, super tired and a little bit scared.

My scan is NT scan, I'm assuming that if you have the combined test they do the 12 week scan in conjuction with the NT scan, is that right?

MrsWajs · 15/10/2010 02:30

Wow congratulations hippy soo exciting! I always wanted twins!! What a shock it must have been tho!

Liv my step DS also wants the baby to be a girl, probably for same reasons! He keeps pointing to my boobs Hmm and saying "louis' sister" not sure why he thinks the baby is in my boobs as have told him many times it's in my tummy!!

Hi to all the other newbies and well done to peeps who have had scans - it's so exciting to actually see the baby isn't it!!

kittycatcat · 15/10/2010 08:38

HUGE DOUBLE CONGRATS Hippy wow what a shock. No worries re post :) V pleased for you? How are you feeling.

Welcome newbies to a very lovely thread.

My 20 week scan is 14th December.

JoEW · 15/10/2010 09:44

Congratulations Hippy how very exciting, even though it must be quite hard to take in! My husband really wanted twins (we have them on both sides) but we've just got the one in there. It's really very cool, once you get over the shock!

SarahJinx, hello! I think you will probably have both tests at the same time, that's certainly how they did it at Kingston Hospital. I had the scan and they did the measurement, then I had the blood test and they either ring you within 24 hours if the result is screen positive or write to you if it's screen negative. Not all hospitals do the same thing but if you are having your NT at the same time as the scan I expect it will be the same as mine. Good luck.

Now, to get through the day with out my mushy brain screwing anything up..... oh the challenge!

kitstwins · 15/10/2010 10:29

Hippy congratulations on twins. You're in for the most fantastic experience as twins really are wonderful. Mine are four next week and really the best news I ever had. Check out Tamba as it's a good place to start for advice, etc. and has a really good pram guide that you can send off for. Also, you'll be able to search out your local twins club, which I'd recommend joining.

Also, twins usually arrive by 38 weeks, although some people go later if they can persuade their consultant to let them tick along (most consultants get a bit twitchy by 38 weeks, although God know's why). Do you know if yours are identical or non identical at this stage. Are they sharing a placenta or amniontic sac?

Small tip, it's worth bearing in mind that twin pregnancies show six weeks ahead of a singleton pregnancy so, for example, 14 weeks pregnant with twins is the equivalent of being 20 weeks with a singleton in terms of size. This was spot on for me (I was humungoid by the time I delivered at 35 weeks!). Equally, it can be a good benchmark for calculating maternity leave if you're still working. Most twin mothers I know have given up work at around 30 weeks (36 weeks singleton equivalent) although they all thought they'd/tried to last longer. Anyway, massive congratulations. It's really exciting news.

kitstwins · 15/10/2010 10:34

So busy waffling about twins I forgot to add my own update.

I'm now nearly sixteen weeks and definately look pregnant when I wear empire line dresses but just look strange in jeans and tops. Like a boa constrictor that's eaten a small mammal! I'm still knackered and can't remember when I got my energy surge last time. Surely it was by this stage?

Had my nuchal scan a couple of weeks ago and my results were good - nearly one in 8000 risk, which I guess is because my baby is actually from a 33 year old embryo rather than my current 37 year old stash. The plus of conceiving by frozen embryo transfer I guess!

Got my first seat on the bus yesterday. Miracle!

frakkinstein · 15/10/2010 11:21

Oh hippy wow!!!!!! How exciting for you!

I, too, was wondering if we'd have any multiples.

SaltedPretzels · 15/10/2010 12:04

Hello fellow mums to be, my I join you please?

Congratulations on the twins HIPPY wow that's going to be fun.
I've been reading the threads and have seen all the ups and unfortunate downs over the past few months. I've only just found out about this site so 'm really excited to see you all and hear about your progress, the list is really low now it's funny to think all of us will have our child/twins etc within days of each other. It's also nice to find people going through the same things at the same time it makes it that much easier.

I'm happy to meet you all and hope your all doing well x

I'm just over 14 weeks due 13th April will update list below.

Have had two dating scans as have introverted uterus so makes it harder to see baby when it hides from us!

Had Nuchal scan last week which came back low risk which was a huge relief as I'm 35 and heard the risk is higher for older mothers.

Now at the in-between stage where I'm waiting for my bloods on 25th, have read cover to cover all leaflets, guides and novels, searched the internet to extinction and still can't get enough pregnancy information to satisfy my over curious brain that want's to know as much as my midwife lol.

I'm lucky this time around as I have only mild nausea however I have daily headaches which I'm hoping will go soon.

My girls are 15 and 16 so it's been a while and I'm glad the birth plans are so much more in favour of what we want and not what is easier for the hospital.

I don't know what the abbreviations mean so can someone please explain DD,DS and BFP?

Has anyone else got a strange craving yet? I crave the smell of hot vinegar it's hard to explain but I 'need' to smell it. I especially love the smell on chip shop fish but when I eat it I'm sick but I could smell it ALL day, weird!

Liv 77 your due date and 20 week scan date are both the same as mine.

How's everyone looking and feeling? I think I am finally starting to look pregnant as my bump seems to have sprouted over the last couple of days.

kittycatcat · 15/10/2010 13:28

Hi salted

Welcome and congrats.

Here's a link to the abbreviations for you
www.mumsnet.com/info/acronyms

caramellokoalalover · 15/10/2010 13:51

PMSL at your description of your bump kitstwins, that's exactly how I look too.

Congrats on the twins news Hippy, how exciting!

Welcome salted. I've been getting bad headaches too. For me it's like a headache that goes when I eat and comes back an hour or so after and gets worse and worse until I eat again. Very strange, anyone else have these and find anything that helps? Paracetamol doesn't seem to do anything...

stuffedmk · 15/10/2010 16:24

WOW hippy twins...that is so cool, I would love twins!!!

I had a bit of a nervy week this week as had a bit of spotting again on monday night(although this time it was brought on by nookie rather than nothing) Rang MW Tues morning and she seemed unconcerned. I wasn't too worried as the spotting had stopped and was still feeling movements. However it was really good to see the MW today and hear the heartbeat.

hippy3 · 15/10/2010 18:15

hey everyone..I am overwhelmed by how supportive everyone is on here...Smile

Hello to all the new ones, you couldnt be in a better place. !

kitstwins thank you for all your advice, I am moving between totall disbelief and shock and apprehension then counting myself so so lucky...we only wanted two children, and now we will have them!! My DP is more excited than I am however he doesnt have to grow them for the next while! I am really really small and cant believe that I am able to grow two babies! Shock

I was laughing thinking id have a nice neat bump and all that, no chance of that now! its funny cause i thought i was showing and everyone was telling me I must be imagining it as u dont show very early on your first well im not surprised i have a mini bump if there are two !

I have also found the multiple birth thread on here so will be looking at both for support!

My next scan is at 16 weeks, the twins are identical even when they did the NT scan it was exactly the same. They share the same placenta but not the same sac. (I think ) cant remember what they said I was in too much shock. I know that they are at a higher risk, but im just going to try to relax and enjoy being preganant. God knows i wont get any relaxation for ever probably when they are born !!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.....Im off with my DP for the weekend as a mini celebration. Just hope im not sick Grin

BeetleBaby · 15/10/2010 20:37

Hello everyone, and welcome to the recent joiners!

Congratulations hippy!! It'll be interesting to compare your twin pregnancy with those of us with just the one.

I'm starting to develop quite a bump, but as I'm a short arse anyway and usually small all over it's probably not that big of a bump, it just looks big on me! I have to say I will be glad to get just a little bit bigger. Currently I feel fat rather than pregnant as maternity clothes are too big but normal clothes are too tight!

I was hoping that by now I'd of started to get a nice boost of energy, HA! I'm totally cream crackered still. Though it has been very busy at work the last couple of weeks so I'm hoping that things will quite down and I will get chance to catch up on my energy levels.

Right, now I'm going to go snuggle on the sofa with DH and watch MAS*H on DVD, ah the end of Friday nights down the pub....Grin

Liv77 · 16/10/2010 01:00

Have had an enjoyable evening in talking through watching Chicago on DVD with the girls, including another PG friend who's due her first in Feb. Some of us hadn't seen each other for a while so there were a few surprised faces when she took her coat off to reveal her 26 week bump,(I knew which was one of the reasons we had a DVD night as opposed to a night out) Also then had to tell them I was expecting again too Smile.

Hi Lowra it's nice to have a due date buddy. I'm hoping my scan goes ahead on the 15th Nov as the ob. doing it will be on call that day so I have to hope no-one has a difficult labour that morning.

Have been getting a few headaches this week, not major but enough to be annoying. I've taken to carrying around one of those 4head sticks and it seems to help. Unfortunatley I work in an old public building which is currently being renovated and the smell of the paint etc isn't helping. The work is due to be completed by February. Oh joy.

JustKeepSwimming · 16/10/2010 14:57

I can recommend 4head too, used it before but not got round to buying it yet this pg.

Feeling v pg today, not sure why, just think bump is huge, i am tired (up early with DS2) and lots of talk about baby from PIL.

kitstwins · 16/10/2010 16:59

Hi Hippy. Actually it's pretty good news if they're identical and share a separate sac as there is no risk of entanglement, which consultants always get very jumpy about. You'll just get lots of scans and extra monitoring, which is rather nice.

As for being tiny, a friend had twins with her second pregnancy (went for the second, ended up with a second and third...) and was terrified as she's just over 5ft tall, tiny slim and her husband is 6ft 4. Her first child is very tall and she had no idea how on earth she was going to grow two probably large babies inside her. She got to 37 weeks at which point she begged her consultant to hatch her open as she felt too enormous (he was gunning for 39 weeks but then he wasn't 5ft with two 6lb babies in his stomach, so he would be...). She did really well. Even more bizarre is she's back to the size she was before. My tip is lots of bio oil (or similar).

Great news. It will sink in. Twins are magic in a world in which we know the answer to almost everything. It's fabulous.

Petalouda · 16/10/2010 17:13

Hey all!
Congrats hippy! Good luck with both of them!

Well, we've been in our new house a week and it's BRILL! Treated ourselves to a dishwasher too, which is the single best decision I've ever made! (ok, not including marriage, baby and house)

According to my colleagues and students yesterday, I officially look pg now! I suppose at 17 wks that's ok!

Another few weeks till we get internet, so take care everyone, see you in november. x

Hi all
Hope ur all well. I bought the pram today. It was a bargain at the nct sale and in vgc.

kurlyvoice · 17/10/2010 14:36

Hello,

Can I join? I was on the May thread initially but at my first scan on Thursday was told that I was rather further along than we had anticipated with an EDD of 16th April, so I'm 14+1 today.

This is our first, we're very excited and it was so wonderful to see the LO waving and jumping around during the ultrasound. One question I have is about the Health in Pregnancy grant. Given my new EDD I will be exactly 25 weeks on the 1st January - anyone know whether I might be in with a chance of getting the money?

Hope you don't mind me coming into the fray so late, and I hope that I can catch up on everyone's news quickly.

JenAT · 17/10/2010 14:56

Hello everyone. lots of new additions, certainly going to be a very busy April!
Not posted for ages as had nothing interesting to say, well I still don't really!

Hippy ,wow twins, very exciting for you. I have twin nieces aged 7 and they are identical but certainly not identical in personality! They have always played together and still share the same bedroom, a really special relationship to have.

Told my dd aged 3 a few weeks ago that I was having a baby. She only wants a girl baby, and apparently she also now has a baby in her tummy. She asked the question yesterday "How does the baby get out of your tummy?" So I told her the truth and her face looked totally disgusted! " the baby comes out of your bottom Mummy? Can't it come out of your mouth instead?"

I had visions of the scenes from Alien, not good!

We visited my parents yesterday and she merrily told them that Mummy's baby is going to come out of her bottom, can't wait until tomorrow when I have no doubt she will be telling everyone at nursery!

Does anyone feel that time is just dragging at the moment? Another month to go for me until my 20week scan.
