Thaney · 06/10/2010 21:24

After much research I discovered that listeria is killed at 70 degrees for 2 minutes. Therefore blue cheese sauces or my personal favourite of baked camembert are going to be free of any evil bugs.

Jaylar · 06/10/2010 21:29

Ok - is there any dignity left to me? Am only 13 weeks and have hacking cough (clinging to this excuse). Yet I have just managed to pee myself! It was only a dribble (TMI) but I've another 6 months to go. Am I headed for being the smelly old cow who stinks of wee on the bus that gets a double seat all to herself?

This is number 2 and did think my pelvic floor was in ok shape. Apparently not. About to google for some ping pong balls and a book of Thai strip bar exercises out of desperation.

Really mortified :(

youngblowfish · 06/10/2010 22:01

Oh, Jaylar, you poor thing! I am just getting over a stinking cold as well and it is miserable. But don't despair about your bladder - pelvic floor muscles exercises really work wonders, they have got rid of my need to pee at 4am every night when I was 7 - 8 weeks. TMI, but I do 10 short pulses followed by 10 longer 10 second clenches x 10 whenever I remember. At first, it is a little awkward to do, but it becomes a habit after a while.

As for this thread's meat craving, I also need a steak! Preferably venison with mushroom and cream sauce. caramellokoalalover, I am also under the impression I can have my steaks rare, providing they are seared. Well done ones just don't do it for me :(.

MrsWajs · 06/10/2010 23:23

Hmm I am excited at all the talk of rare steaks and cooked cheese!!

So technically, as long as the cheese has been cooked to over 70 degrees for 2 minutes then I can eat it?? Grin

Happy days!

Anyone got the magical cure for extreme constipation? I am really suffering today :( And also now my back has started playing up!! Mainly at work - job is quite physical though. Starts off as a lower bach ache and then progresses to slightly sciatic pain which radiates into my hips a bit, I wouldn't describe it as painful as such - more . . . tiring, if that makes sense to anyone!?

Weighed myself again today - bad times - I have now put on half a stone since finding out I was pregnant, am pretty sure that's not great since the baby is only something like 2 inches long and doesn't even weigh one ounce!!!

kittycatcat · 07/10/2010 08:21

Morning everyone

Notanothernewnappy and Beckie glad the scans went well.

Muffinmouse a week to go for us.

cheesy I am due the same day as you. My journey is about 1hr15 each way. My job isn't too stressful apart from a boss i hate. We only get 4 months mat pay so i plan to work as late as physically possible so i have more time with bubba after. But everyone keeps telling me to expect to finish at the end of March. Hmm, That cuts me a month short after!

LoulouCapone · 07/10/2010 09:44

Hello, I haven't been on for a while, and actually I'm surprised I still fit there are so many of us.

Doctor has confirmed that I have hyperemesis (Sp) and was in hospital being rehydrated last week. The upside is that I've now already had two scans. (one dating and then one at hosp last week). Amazed at how much has changed between the one at 5wks and the one last week. Little legs and arms kicking, and baby dancing around.

Two weeks until my official nuchal scan, then I can relax a bit. Even with the two scans I still feel like something's going to go wrong.

PolarBear74 · 07/10/2010 14:00

I have just come back from my booking appointment and have been classed as High Risk due to many factors including BMI, previous miscarriage and diabetes in the family. I now seem to have so many doctors/consultants/midwifes/scan appointments I think I will be living at the hospital over the next few months.

I was starting to feel less stressed having had my 12 week scan Confused

But on the upside in response to some comments earlier the midwife didn't say no to rare steaks. She confirmed the part about searing the outside to very hot so I might have to go and get some steaks for dinner, purely to keep my iron intake up of course Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 07/10/2010 14:55

Sunshine I'm so sorry :(

I'm sure I'm due another midwife appointment, haven't even had the results of my nuchal fold and bloods yet! Am assuming all is fine though, they would have contacted me if not I think. I'm 16 weeks tomorrow!

Glad my revelation about the blue cheese has cheered so many of you ladies up...as far as I know it does apply to cured meats aswell Grin Wink

I am sure I read somewhere that you could have rare steak as I was worried when I went out and my 'well done' steak was not so well done. I remember feeling better after reading it, but I don't know where it was.

Alibaba I was told by midwife to make appointment at 15 weeks so it may be worth contacting someone to check if you need to go in.
I only got my bloods back yesterday (nearly 2 weeks after they were taken) so it can take a while I imagine they probably would speed it up if it were bad news though. Mine thankfully came out as 1 in 30,000 so I'm happy with that Smile

BeetleBaby · 07/10/2010 16:22

Hello Everyone,

Just sneaked on at work to say a quick hello! We moved house a couple of weeks ago so are currently without internet and in that wonderful post move chaos!

I feel like I've exploded over the last couple of weeks! I'm having serious trouble fitting into my clothes! If it's not the bump it's the boobs that are popping out all over!

Like many of you my sickness is wearing off (and my appetite is back, yay!) though I am craving meat... specifically Salami, which is freaking me out as I haven't eaten meat for years! I am still finding myself cream crackered by about 3.30pm which isn't much fun.

We've not told all family and friends, which is really nice as everyone is very pleased (though was a little uncomfortable telling BIL & SIL as we think they've been trying and as they're 6 years old than us assumed that they'd get in there first so to speak). It is really nice now to be able to ring my mum and have a good moan. And take on board her words of wisdom!

Is anyone else noticing their stomach muscles streching? I can actually feel them seperating at times (usually when I'm asleep and roll over, ouch!).

Anyway, best be back to work! (sorry for the typos, I did rush this a little!)

JustKeepSwimming · 07/10/2010 16:30

Loulou - hope you aren't feeling too rubbish.

All well at my scan today :)

Just the one baby and dates spot on.

I'm not feeling sick in the same way anymore but i do seem to suffer a couple of hours after eating, so need to rediscover my Gaviscon bottle!

MuffinMouse · 07/10/2010 18:04

Justkeepswimming - that's great news.
LouLou - hope all the sickness stops soon
PolarBear - understand a bit. I've already got two different consultant referrals! Just think they like to cover all eventualities.
Beetle - My tum hurts whenever I roll over!

LisMcA · 07/10/2010 18:21

I have discovered Fruit Rennies for heartburn as taking gaviscon all the time was bleurgh!

The rennies get me through normal day to day heartburn. If it is really bad I'll have a swig of gaviscon.

Forgot to buy blue cheese today. I am really suffering from baby brain now! I keepcalling DH by my brothers name! This could get awkward :o

Petalouda · 07/10/2010 21:10

Hey All!

Beetle nice to see you back, glad the move went well. We're moving this weekend, the movers are over to pack tomorrow (I don't care how much it costs, as long as I don't have to do it!) so I'll have a little lie in (woop!).

So, is that the source of the searing pain every now and again when I roll over? I didn't work that out!

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow, and should be having another mw appointment I think, but as we're about to move to the other side of Dartmoor, I need to register with a doc before I can find out about the mw. What a palaver!

My main symptom now is just the exhaustion. But it's weird, I'll feel fine for ages and then its like I've been switched off. I just hit a wall, and can't even understand sentences or make decisions. I keep reminding myself to take it easy when I feel fine, but it's hard to remember the connection.

Well, it could be a month before we're back on t'interweb, so in case I don't see you. Enjoy the next few weeks everyone! x

mole2 · 08/10/2010 08:04

Hello again!
Had my nuchal scan on Monday- low risk at 1 in 7110 despite being 33! The sonographer had 3 attempts at a decent picture as baby was swimming backstroke first, then facing the probe rather than lying on its back, and finally curled up in the corner and went to sleep.
My uterus is also really retroverted so the bump wil be growing inwards and down rather than up and out for the next few weeks- I am a really strange shape thanks to this, expanding sideways!
First appointment with the midwife is at the hospital on 11th Nov when I will be 17+4 weeks (here in Australia it's standard practice for a booking appointment at 16-18 weeks with all prior investigations done by the GP).
The vomiting is back with a vengeance- since yesterday morning (32 hours) I have kept down only a bowl of rice crispies, a dairy milk, can of coke and a processed cheese sandwich. Lost about 1 1/2 lbs since 6 weeks, but technically not 'hyperemesis' yet.

Thoughts to all those who have had to leave.

Do you think we should start a new thread once everyone is past 12 weeks as this one is getting huge?

kittycatcat · 08/10/2010 08:17

I didnt know that was stretching muscles either. handy to know.

Mole2 i think we need to eh, we only get 999 messages per thread i think and we are up to 842 already :) It's nice there are so many of us :)

Hope the move goes well Petalouda

Sparklywine · 08/10/2010 14:22

Sad news, and sorry to put a downer on what is such an anxious time, but I too will need to bow out. Had my 12 week scan this morning, and nothing much to see. The sac was developing but the baby itself had not progressed much beyond the early weeks. Funny to have the symptoms and swollen tummy, then see a big void where a little baby was meant to be. Have gone to work as didn't know what else to do, someone who I'd had to tell (to avoid a very boozy night out!) asked if I had a scan photo which wasn't great, I'll have to tell her soon but just need to get my head around it. DH being brilliant. I know it's nature's way of saying something wasn't right, and have been pregmatic all along, but still waiting for a wave of hormones to hit, and not looking forward to next week as my body catches up with the news. I wish you all the very best of luck ladies, stay healthy and happy, and hopefully I'll be back on another thread soon with better news x

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/10/2010 14:26

Oh Sparkly I'm so so sorry :(

Can you go home and put your feet up? ((hugs))

kittycatcat · 08/10/2010 14:39

I am so sorry Sparkly We are all here for you. Glad DH is looking after you. Big hugs x

JustKeepSwimming · 08/10/2010 14:42

Sparkly :( Please go home, get your DH to come hoe early if possible, put on a weepy film and let those emotions out, don't bottle it up, it's not good for you.

Sympathies & hugs x

beckie90 · 08/10/2010 15:34

thankyou kittycatcat.

aww SPARKLY so sorry to hear that, big hugs to you xx

Sparklywine · 08/10/2010 15:37

Thanks everyone, am ok. Really don't think I'm bottling up in a bad way, there literally was nothing there in the scan; had there been a little lifeform it would have been much worse. Pregmatic? Fraudian slip! Work has been quite cathartic (Friday cupcakes) and will have a good weep when I get in. And then a big drink of something that doesn't have elderflower in it! You are all lovely x

lowra · 08/10/2010 18:22

Sparkly and Sunshine, I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. Can't imagine how you are feeling. Look after yourselves and hopefully good news is just around the corner.

Mole2, I had similar Nuchal results to you. 1 in 6770, and I am 34 (just).

Wondering if anyone has felt the baby move yet? I am almost 15 weeks and have felt 'something' that could be described as bubbling or butterflies but I'm not sure if it's in the right place as it's quite far to the right???

ecuse · 08/10/2010 18:35

Hi everyone

So sad to hear the bad news from Sparklywine and Sunshine :(

Have been on holiday for just over a week, back yesterday and had our 12 week scan/nuchal fold today. Baby is growing nicely, heartbeat and limbs all present and correct so I'm really excited. Think the DP got a bit freaked out - it's our first, it was only semi-planned, and it made it all seem a bit real to him, I think! But he's still excited really. I'm 12+3 now and still feeling exhausted, although consider myself hugely lucky never to have got sick. Still got crampy stretching pains from time to time.

We got to tell all 3 sets of prospective grandparents and step-grandparents over the last couple of weeks, and they're universally excited and tearful. Although the last week with the MIL has been a bit trying as I appear to have morphed into some sort of sacred chalice. A bit of TLC is one thing, but when everything you do is accompanied by "I'm not sure I want my future grandchild doing xxx" it's a bit trying. It's not like I'm base jumping. I was just going on a guided tour around some caves in Wales.

josie314 · 09/10/2010 16:21

Hello again!

Sparklywine and Sunshine, I'm very sorry to hear your news. I hope you are back soon with happier results!

Polarbear ? I feel your pain about being a high risk pregnancy. I am type 1 diabetic, and have to see the doctor/midwife/diabetic team every two weeks, and each visit takes up to 3 hours. I can only imagine what it will be like when I?m further along! Luckily, my boss has been great about it, but it did mean I had to tell well before I wanted to.

I just got back from a business trip, and am feeling a bit sore after the horrible London transit situation meant I had to carry my suitcase much further than planned. I'm hoping I didn't do any damange, and am planning to just rest for a few days to recover.

My scan is in 10 days, so I'm still holding my breath...
