Hello ladies - am I too late to join!? Am 10+3weeks pregnant and think I'm due 22nd April.. 1st midwife appointment this wednesday so hoping to find out more. This will be my first so just muddling through trying to work out what on earth is going on and what I need to do.. and how this all works. Any tips??

Hi kittycatcat, thanks for your response & congratulations to you! I'm feeling fairly rubbish unfortunately, but I'm holding onto the magical 12 week point coming soon!! Been wiped out for about 4 weeks now, but not actually sick which i suppose is good!!! You? Hope you're feeling well. It's a strange time isn't it!?

Thanks :) it is very odd. Constant paranoia that all is well in there. Tho i still have sore boobs, odd days of nausea (havent been sick tho) and lots and lots of twinges!

Im due same day as you and its my first to !! Also cant wait to hit that 12 weeks, Ive got my scan on Friday so im really, really excited to finally confirm their is a little baby in there and then im flying back to Oz in a couple of weeks so will get to tell all my family if all goes well, it seems like ive had to wait ages just to get to this stage, so glad Friday is now just a few days away, although have no holiday time left so going to do a cheeky call in sick !

Hello 1stTimeMother, I'm due 19th April, 10+5 today, and it's my first too!
It is a weird time. I am finding it SO difficult to concertrate at work, hence popping up on this every five mins. I keep looking online for more information even though I don't really know what I'm looking for! These last 8 weeks, since I found out I was pregnant, have gone so slowly.

Just back from my booking appointment [frazzled brain emoticon] Got quite a few booklets to read through.

It was mostly about mine and DH's medical history.

However i'm feeling slightly deflated, I'm not the skinniest person in the world, nor am I the fattest, but I was made to feel a bit rubbish about bringing a child into the world when I'm overweight. (Brief history on me. Was diagnosed with PCOS, had been referred up to our fertility clinic, did a test beofre going to our first appointment because cycles all over the place and just wanted to confirm was not PG, but got a BFP instead :o ) I was on a diet, lost nearly 2 stone, probably the reason I conceived naturally, but MW didn't seem to take this into accout. According to her little charts my weight for my height has me in the obese category. I have to be referred to the metabolic clinc for monitoring throughout, but this is good according to MW because I'll get loads more scans! Whooppee :(

I know its going to be harder being bigger, but it's a bit late to start the atkins now!

This first trimester really does drag, it's still 2 weeks 'til my scan, arrr, at least then I'll have a proper due date, I think I'm coming up to 11 weeks now, and also can't wait to tell everyone. Feel like I'm in denial/ imagining things at the moment. Trying not to think about it doesn't really work does it?!
I feel your pain LisMcA, I'm fatter than I would like, but too late to do much about it now! My belly is huge now, baby's displacing the fat I usually kept hidden lower down!
I'm going to try and swim/ do more some exercise, really can't be arsed at the moment and don't really fancy the pool 'til I'm obviously pregnant (not just fat) how vain is that...I'm soo shallow!

I have a question for the skinnier ladies, I was just wondering when you have your scans do they do it on your actual stomach? I only ask as because I have a spare roll of flesh there already when I have scans they always seem to do it to the left of my pubic bone up and shove the scanner up into my belly. I suppose it's easier to scan skinny girls.

have just been shown where to find all those who are due in April...my edd April 29th ...so the very end...but still in april.
It my first baby, am over the moon and feel very lucky. As my DP and I concieved in the first month of trying...and we werent even trying that much (if you see what i mean) !

But am also feeling very tired, and nauceous. And dare I say this a bit down...have got some advice from here and apparently thats all normal? just very unusual for me.
Am dying to tell people but am waiting for my 12 week scan..in two and a bit weeks...am praying that everything is o.k....
Am LOVING the idea of being able to chat to lots of women who are and will be going though the same thing. Thanks JOEW for showing me where you all are. :)

I think I may be overly emotional today as I've just cried and one of those stray dogs charity adverts.

MW probably didn't mean to make me feel shitty, but i chose to let her.

Just spoke to my BF on the phone and she is a big girl who has had 2 DD's. She said that I should only be concerned about what I can feasibly control, ie doing what I can to not pile on more weight and one way or the other the baby has to come out fat or not. This made me laugh at the thought of a very stern looking midwife standing at the door of the maternity unit turning away all the "larger" mothers to be telling them only to return when they had lost some weight!! :o

I'm off to find comfort in a cadburys caramel! Just don't tell my midwife !!!

All this talk of chocolate on here is giving me a serious craving. I haven't had cadbury's caramel in a VERY long time. Time I went out to the shop I think...

Had my scan this morning, all progressing normally. Was really nice to see it's little heart beating. It looked like it was trying to punch things when it got woken up by the sonographer poking it. Doesn't bode well for the future when I can feel it punching me.

They have moved my due date by a couple of days so I have updated the list.

Afternoon all! Hello & welcome to the newbies!

I usually try not to get involved in talk about body weight/image conversations.

However, I can't resist a rant/argument!
How on earth can anyone eat sensibly at this point in life?! I've even had to start taking a packed lunch to bed with me! (I now wake up desperate for a wee AND starving hungry at 2am!). If I was a larger person (and I've said this before being pregnant too) I would be Enormous by now.

When I had my booking in appointment the mw commented that I had high levels of glucose in my urine. But she said "well, you don't look like a lady that would have diabetes" - so, if I was fatter, I'd have had a right earful, and instead I could be wandering around with undiagnosed diabetes because the mw's judgement was based on what I looked like, not on hard scientific evidence!!

Therefore, I conclude that many medical professionals will make assumptions based on a person's appearance rather than the evidence that is put before them! So really, don't let people make you feel bad, surely they'd be a bit more understanding if they felt the way you do.

P.S. my rants should be taken with a pinch of salt and much humour - I'm stubborn & ranty and can't help it. I'm considering writing a paper to make it a proper condition!

My DP was planning on cooking me a lovley meal..but he has been held up in work. In the mean time im eating my way through our junk cupboard.
Although dont feel too guilty as I am normally stupidly healthy...

Thank you all for letting me know (in a nice way obviously!) that I'm not alone in the slight depression/feeling weird, sick, unsure, etc, etc! It will be great to finally have a scan and know all is ok, and tell people!

On the food front, I'm actually finding I can't eat huge amounts as it makes me feel far worse, but I am allowing myself to eat what I feel like as frankly anything I can stomach surely is good!??
LisMcA - really think MW should have been more encouraging rather thank school ma'am'ish with you! Most important thing is that you are healthy & keep happy and stress free at the moment, surely?? Please don't let her get you down, but just try to keep active & eat well for yourself.
