Hello All,

I caved and bought maternity clothes over the weekend too. Though my justification was that they were cheap in Next Clearance and I'm down to 2 pairs of jeans that I can still do up as they are still a little to big. I also found a couple of shirt/top things that I can wear now (thank goodness big and baggy is fashionable and comfy) and will stretch over a bump later on. Again it was a Next Clearance job as I'm a short arse and their petite stuff actually fits me, oh and some bits from 'Primarni'...

It feels like I've not posted on MN for aaaages (I have lurked) I've just be so busy. We have a big open day at work on Friday that I co-organise so it's been a bit mental, DH and I move house a week today (which is why I'm on MN not packing obviously!) and I went to London to see Modest Mouse on Wednesday. Great gig though I learnt the hard way I can't do the get back home at 2am and then be on the ball at work by 9am! Oh and I'm very Envy of those that went to see Muse!

Hmm as for other pregnancy symptoms, my MS has got a worse Sad poor DH has been left desperate for the loo while I'm praying to the bathroom throne a few times! My boobs still hurt, and have a rather spectacular pattern of blue veins. And like many of you other ladies my sense of smell is a real pain, I can't open the fridge without gagging which makes eating the few bits I manage to keep down difficult to prepare.

As this is pretty epic for one post I'll stop now. Just want to say I am in total awe of all of you who are coping with the 'joys' of early pregnancy and have other LO's to look after!

MrsWajs · 13/09/2010 22:07

Oooh i must have missed the previous smell conversation loulou and mole - I also can't stand the smell of my own house!!
The bedroom and living room are particularly bad and I'm having to change washing powder as well because I've now decided the one I have stinks!!

My bump is called MiniWajs for the same reason as my user name is MrsWajs - DP's initials!

JoEW · 14/09/2010 11:58

My bump is called Piglet, not sure why but it seems to have stuck. Already I am informing DH that Piglet is VERY hungry, Piglet has a bit of a thing for Babybels (why?!) and Piglet does not want me to get out of bed in the morning. Piglet also likes those big cookies that Sainbury's make - piglet is a bit of a lazy chav as far as I can tell.

kittycatcat · 14/09/2010 13:06

Hehe JoEW that's what i do with Kitten. Kitten burped. Kitten doesnt like this. Kitten doesnt want that :)

NotAnotherNewNappy · 14/09/2010 13:20

Hello everyone and welcome newbies ( kittycat & louloucapone),

JoEW - So glad that everything turned out okay for you.

Great code curryeater!

I am so happy as I now have a scan date (29 Sept, I'll be 13w exactly). I really can't wait to find out if everything's okay and 'come out', so to speak! I have such a big bump already, I'm starting to worry it's twins Shock

MS is calming down, but I'm with all of you on the smilly fridges and cleaning products. My particular gag trigger is the cat litter tray - made worse by the fact I can't change it myself (worried about that funny worm disease harming the baby) and have to nag a less than enthusiastic DH to do it.

We are going to look at a house tonight. We are in rented at the mo, probably can't afford it but it's v exciting anyway.

I am quite shocked at how many women have had to leave this thread (so so sorry Lady). I had no idea miscarraige was so common, it's terrifying Sad

LoulouCapone · 14/09/2010 17:26

Hi everyone - I've finally had a chance to read the whole thread and I would also like to say how shocked I am at how many have had to leave. I miscarried in Jan, it was awful, and I know there's nothing I can say, but well, I'm sorry and take care.

To all the ladies with the weird taste/smell thing going on, and those with the MS - have you found anything that helps? I'm really struggling.

I've also dug out my maternity jeans because my hips have really spread. They're sooo comfy.

MrsW I also can't stand the smell of our washing - which is a shame because I bulk bought when it was on offer.

Good luck with the house NANN

Petalouda · 14/09/2010 18:20

Afternoon all!

Nice to see all the nicknames - I haven't referred to mine really yet - I think I might find it weird, like referring to myself in the 3rd person. Maybe I should try it!

My chocolate addiction finally came back today and I'm already about 1/2 way through a huge bar of dairy milk! First one I've had since June! (hope it indicates moving on to the next section, rather than the end of things).

NotAnotherNewNappy we're in rented too, but we're about to move into our first home at the end of october!!! As first time buyers, we've had to make use of one of the homebuy scheme. There's a few government initiatives, and the homebuy is open to key workers, or people on a 'low income' and also people who did own their homes but whose circumstances have changed. So it's worth a look!

In other news - I came home to find I'd accidentally shut the cat in a cupboard all day! oops!

x

AprilMeadow · 14/09/2010 19:30

Sorry had to really laugh at you locking the cat in a cupboard!! Our cat frequently gets locked in bedrooms and the dining room... They shouldnt be so good at hiding :)

Kitty81 · 14/09/2010 19:36

louloucapone I've had terrible ms for weeks now. Have discovered a couple of things that help.

  1. Crisps & potato waffles: easy to eat, salty and starchy, so good for nausea/sickness. Bland salted food will also be a bit kinder to you on the way back up as they sort of neutralise your stomach acids so won't hurt your throat so much. I'm living off crisps at the moment, they literally get me through classes.

  2. Avoid orange juice, fruit juice and oranges on an empty stomach. If you want them, have a protein with them (a satsuma and a babybel for example), again for acid reasons. Anything acidic seems to upset me badly. It's all bland, beige food for a while joy

  3. Stress, tiredness and physical exertion seem to make me worse, so I'm avoiding them at all costs. If your work know, they have to provide you by law with somewhere quiet and comfortable to sit and rest during the day. Don't feel bad about using it. I'm a teacher and I'm having an armchair put into our office so I can nap at lunch. Will make all the difference, I reckon.

  4. Get your foods and your fluids in small amounts. Not sure why this one works for me but it does. Sipping water slowly and nibbling small snacks seems to keep it at bay, but if I glug a glass of cordial or eat a large meal my body seems to reject it? Could be a relaxin thing, I suppose.

Those things help me. A friend swears by Peppermint essence in hot chocolate (made with water if you are having a milk aversion like me) or dropped onto a hanky and just sniffed to mask nasty smells. Hope you feel better soon! Kitty xx

LisMcA · 15/09/2010 10:02

Writing for bed this morning, so please excuse any typos!

Still in bed as DH (in the loosest sense right now) has kindly shared the fluey virus he had last week.

While he doped up on decongestants and all kinds of lovely medicines I'm left with, wait for it....... Steam! oh and lockets!

Pharmasistsaid absolutley positivley I am not allowed to take anything.

Also have V bad MS yesterday and today, so feeling totally sorry for myself. Not the glowing mum to be I'd always imagined i'd be!

Fingers crossed I'm better by monday when I'm back to work!!

Self indulgent whinge over! thanks for listening! :o

kittycatcat · 15/09/2010 11:41

Hope you feel better soon LisMcA grrrs at DH (!) on your behalf!

ecuse · 15/09/2010 15:34

Hi everyone. Really excited today as had an early dating scan (also to check everything OK as preg symptoms were never strong and dropped off a week ago). All is well, I saw a little heartbeat going like the clappers, and I'm dated as 9+1. Which, if my sums are correct, means I'm due on 19th April. Grin

NotAnotherNewNappy · 15/09/2010 17:10

Ah - great news ecuse

Petalouda - thank you so much for that link. We HA tennants so I think we may qualify. Congratulations on your new home.

I am suddenly finding it really hard to get through the working day - am exhausted by 4pm. My eyes are closing, it's awful. Thank God it's hometime now Grin

Wombat33 · 15/09/2010 17:13

Escuse really glad to here your scan went well. Hi to all, I'm still lurking occasionally enjoying all your good news and wishing you well.

Wombat33 · 15/09/2010 17:15

[but apparently have lost the ability to spell - d'oh!] :)

Petalouda · 15/09/2010 18:03

Afternoon all!

I need some advice, please:

The news is starting to break at work. But I need to tell a lady in the department who mc'd twins at 22weeks earlier this year.

I'm notoriously bad at diplomacy & subtlety and all that kind of thing.

What should I say. How can I phrase it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll see her Friday, if she's in (I'll be the second to announce this week).

Thanks!

caramellokoalalover · 15/09/2010 18:30

ecuse - we've got the same due date! Glad the scan went well.

Petalouda - are you able to tell the woman at your work by email? That might be gentler than having to tell her face to face, especially if you're not close.

ecuse · 15/09/2010 19:26

Thanks everyone. caramello - let's see if we can drop them the same day!

Petalouda second the email idea. Maybe something really brief like "just wanted to let you know that I'm pregnant, realise it might be awkward for you, hope you're getting on okay"

MrsWajs · 15/09/2010 23:17

ecuse glad your scan went well, I'm desperate for mine now as symptoms have kinda gone AWOL again - keep panicking and thinking all is not right and then they re-appear!! Such a rollercoaster!

Petalouda I'm not so sure the email is a good idea?? May seem a bit impersonal/insincere but of course that's just my opinion. I'll have a similar problem when I announce my pregnancy as one of the girls I work with had a stillbirth at the beginning of the year - it's a really difficult situation.

kittycatcat · 16/09/2010 09:24

Fab news ecuse

ecuse · 16/09/2010 13:11

MrsWajs the nurse in the EPU told me it was quite normal for symptoms to tail off when getting closer to 12 weeks.

JoEW · 16/09/2010 13:36

Great news ecuse, I was so pleased to have the early scan and know it was all looking ok.

Petalouda I wouldn't go down the email route either, things can be taken the wrong way on email and it might cause tension. If she's your line manager and the only person you must tell then I would ask for a meeting and say that you realise this is a sensitive issue for her but that you want to let her know that you are pregnant. You can keep it short and sweet and just cover the facts. If it's her job then she's not going to feel like your are being insensitive.

Alternatively can you go to her boss and outline the situtation or do you have a personnel department you could talk to instead? Good luck. You'll feel better once it's done.

On another, purely vain, subject, is anyone else expanding yet? I seem to have developed a tummy and I am only 9 weeks. I have a sneaking feeling it's just food.

kittycatcat · 16/09/2010 13:48

Hey JoEW i am expanding but having been on ww and quit after my wedding in June i am not sure how much of it is actually Kitten!

AussieMum2Be · 16/09/2010 16:57

Hi all,

Just doing a catch up read, sorry to hear your sad news Lady.

Seen lots of people mentioning blood tests before their first scan, I dont have any appointments to see a midwife or have blood tests before my first scan which I think is for dating and Nuchal fold testing.

I have just had 1 visit to the doctor when I advise them im pg and then my scan which I should be about 12th week's approx

Does that sound right ? Should I be seeing someone for blood tests or something before this usually ?

Any advise welcome.

Thanks All

MrsWajs · 16/09/2010 17:59

aussie I think it depends where you are how they do things. You might get bloods etc done at the same time as your scan or I have heard of others not having bloods done until much later. I wouldn't worry too much about it and just ask when you attend for your scan.

ecuse thanks for that, every little bit of advice/experience added helps a bit at the moment. I woke up today and no symptoms at all other than breasts still slightly tender, didn't even have the 'pregnant feeling' I'm really hoping I am one of the 'lucky ones' who has a relatively symptom free pregnancy but it's proving difficult to convince myself of this just now! Phoning midwives tomorrow to request earlier scan, just hope they say yes.
