that should be hello not welcome AussieMum - not that you're not welcome obviously but I see that you've posted before .... really must get that nap in!

LisMcA · 10/09/2010 11:34

Hi,

I'm due 18th April with our first. Still slightly getting over the shock. We had our first appointment with the fertility clinic on 26th August. I had a really irregular cycle and hadn't had a period for 7 weeks which wasn't unusual, but just to be sure before we went to the hodpital I did a test, stupidly (on reflection) at work in my lunch hour. It was BFP. My mobile had died to I had to email DH with the news. There was no way I could have kept that to myself until home time!!! We still went to the hospital the next day and they confirmed I was 6 weeks, we got a scan and even saw the heartbeat! Amazing!

We have told family and my best friends who knew we were going to the hospital. I just couldn't lie when they asked how the appointment went.

The last 2 weeks have been a bit of a daze! But if there was any doubt I was pregnant, this week has changed it all. Everytime I eat I'm sick, my boobs ache and my slighty too tight jeans before now don't even fasten!!

Got our 12 week scan on 5th October, counting the days til I can skip up the corridor at work, I'm just so excited.

Happy Friday Everyone!!

kittycatcat · 10/09/2010 11:42

Huge congrats LisMcA.

Sparklywine · 10/09/2010 13:18

Hi, I'm due around 16th April with our first, not been confirmed yet as the midwife appointment is next week (when I will be nearly 10 weeks) and I don't have a scan appointment yet - does the midwife arrange this when you see her, or should I be ringing the hospital?! MissWooWoo, I went to see Muse in Manchester last Saturday, I was with a work colleague/friend who I haven't told (we are waiting for the 12 week scan, bit superstitious maybe but we're more comfortable waiting for an all-clear) and she was getting tipsy and insisting I drink her beer (had to keep swapping it with DH's when she wasn't looking). They were also on for two hours and actually found myself getting annoyed as my back ached, haha! My gigging days are over for now! Not many symptoms, I'm a bit of a jelly belly anyway so have an array of (I hope!) flattering, disguising clothes to see me through to the maternity-wear phase - which isn't far off, jeans are straining! Think no-one has guessed but have this nagging thought that as soon as I announce it everyone at work will go 'I knew it!' Slightly sore nipples, slightly bloated, queasy when I haven't eaten (and then want toast, garlic bread, pizza, a whole heap of lard basically), and gone off wine and coffee, that's all for now. Can't wait to see a heart beat, not real at the mo! Anyway, just wanted to say hi as I've been lurking for a bit but am in denial, ha, Muse has flushed me out.

MissWooWoo · 10/09/2010 13:39

hi LisaMcA and Sparklywine and congratulations!

never did get that nap - what is wrong with me?? no chance of one now as babysitter not turning up til 4ish and then I'm off. I am seated for Muse Sparkly so should be ok and only going with dp so don't have to worry about being found out. We're still not telling anyone, supposedly waiting for the scan, dying to tell people.

I got the appointment for the scan in the post and I'm guessing the midwife will have started the ball rolling when the referral from my GP came in - my booking in appointment isn't until next friday.

incyspider · 10/09/2010 14:10

Hi, ooh a bit nervous. I'm due the 25th of April, 1st pregnancy :)

Karoleann · 10/09/2010 18:08

Congrats LisMcA, incyspider and sparklywine I had scan today as wanted to check my consultant was around for my due date (he's retiring soon) and just wanted to make sure everything was okay. All is okay and due date is now 21st April.
I can't stop eating at the moment, only bland stuff though and have really odd craving for chicken roll!!

Petalouda · 10/09/2010 18:35

Hello All!

Welcome along to the newbies, and brilliant to see a bunch of good news!

Well, I've just finished my first full week back at school after the hols, and today had the following things:

Lunchtime, a colleague goes "mate, I dreamt you were having a baby, last night"

Then, year 8, last period: "miss, are you pregnant?" to which I replied with much jovial banter "are you calling me fat? I can't believe you called me fat!" etc.

Seriously, I'm only 11 weeks - I know I think my belly's huge, but I'm sure it isn't really. How do they do it?!

So, had to tell both my heads of dept (I teach 2 subjects) before the rumour mill got going. And actually, they were both lovely, and I feel MUCH better about things! Will be letting the rest of the department speculate until after the scan!

Roll on fry-up-saturday! xx

Petalouda · 10/09/2010 18:38

Oh, and I have MASSIVE Muse envy
Saw them way back in 1997 supporting coldplay in a tiny venue in Portsmouth. Coldplay were awful, Muse were immense, even then!

Seen them once since, was gutted to miss the Teignmouth gig last year, not sure they'll ever play anywhere smaller/closer ever again.

Please can we have some gig details tomorrow - I want to know about the set, the lights, and everything!

gormers · 10/09/2010 20:26

Hi to all our new joiners, welcome to the April gang!!

My scan is 4th oct, seems like that's going to be a busy week for us all! Heaps of scanning action!

Totally with you on all things White carb related - still using them as my main staple of food, although finally little baby's had some fruit & veg this week.

Anyone else got a 'name' for mini-bump?! Obviously, not the 'real' name, but just one for whilst bump's inside? Whilst listening to their new single the other day, we've now named ours Biffy!!! I secretly want that to be it's real name! I guess it wouldn't really suit a girl and parents would turn their noses up!

Guilty admission to now watching the entire night of big brother final! I haven't seen the whole series, but all the early ones, and it's kind of nice to be there for the final goodbye! Am I the only saddo?!!

Arcadie · 10/09/2010 21:14

Hi Ladies - just crashing in. Not pregnant but have a little boy born April last year. Just wanted to wish you all luck and enjoyment of your pregnancies. This time next year you'll have happy bouncing 5 month olds :)

MrsLionHeart · 10/09/2010 21:22

Finally had my first appt with the GP today to get the ball rolling. Nothing happened other than her asking me about timing of last period and handing me an info pack. That's it! Then, it turned out I can't see the midwife until October 6th Hmmm...I'll be 12 weeks and three days then! Shock

I thought that I had gotten over the relaxed approach of the NHS to pregnancy with my first DS (now nearly 15 months) and lowered my expectations, but this caught me by surprise. I've been trying to be patient, but had no idea I'd have to be this patient. No exam whatsoever until my second trimester? Am I over-reacting? Perhaps I'll get scheduled for my scan before I even see the midwife.

Liv77 · 11/09/2010 00:26

I've got my scan next thurs when i'll be 11+5, still not a peep from the midwifes for my booking appt. My GP practice nurse did my bloods a few weeks ago. There must be a baby boom going on. I remember this happening with my DS and the ob. doing the scan was rather peeved nothing had been filled in on my chart. I'm seeing the same Ob. next week so I bet he'll be peeved again Hmm

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/09/2010 08:26

Petalouda - was that Muse gig in the Wedgewood Rooms? I think that's where I mean
I didn't see Muse, I'd left Portsmouth by then, but went to see plenty of other people there.

MrsLion - I've not had an examination, booking in with the midwife was just paperwork and blood tests. I've had my scan, and now don't see the midwife again for another 3-4 weeks. After that I will be 28 weeks before I see her again - so a 3 month gap!
I guess there is nothing for them to do really though, so no need to keep everyone coming in.

Petalouda · 11/09/2010 10:45

Alibaba it was supposed to be Wedgewood rooms, but was upgraded to the Pyramids! Saw a couple of others there too, as soon as we were old enough to drive down from Andover. Good times :)

I've come to realise how crap my booking in appointment was, some locum midwife couldn't get me out of there quick enough. I've had to re-book another appointment for blood tests (next friday) and when I rang up the receptionist said "what are they testing for?" to which I replied "I don't know, the midwife just said to book an appointment, she didn't really explain it"

Scan on 23rd. Then I've apparently got to ring a number to book another appointment somewhere else with someone else. Devon, it's cutting edge, really.

LoulouCapone · 11/09/2010 11:03

Petalouda - I was there too, but I must have missed Muse. For the record, Coldplay are never awaful. Wink

Can I join, I'm due April 27th? I had a dating scan two weeks ago which showed two sacs, one heartbeat, so I'm waiting for my next scan to confirm either way. My MW appt is next week. I mc'd in Jan, but also have two DC's, DD is 11 and DS is 3.

I came here hoping to hear that some of your symptoms are unbearable so I could make myself feel better.

Sickness with DD was textbook - eased off around 2pm and stopped at 14wks. With DS it was all day throughout. Sad I'm really suffering this time too. I'm managing the tiredness, but the sickness is awful. I feel like crying today.

My whole house smells wrong too. Hmm

LoulouCapone · 11/09/2010 11:07

*awful

MissWooWoo · 11/09/2010 11:35

morning! just popping in to let any interested parties know that Muse were aaaaaaaaaaaawesome!
and OMG what a venue, first timer at the stadium and who would have thought that such a huge place could be so, well, cosy? Amazing set, lots of big screens, flashing lights, massive balls that changed colour in the background, streamers were fired, there was massive plumes of smoke and to top it all a silver flying saucer was sent floating over the crowd with very own silver rope dancer dangling form the bottom. Sound system was fucking amazing (no ringing ears here) and of course the actual music was sublime. So glad I went, had a brilliant night. Lily Alan supporting and she was really lovely too.

Spent the morning re-living it with dd (dressed as fairies of course), can't wait til we can go gigging with her and (hopefully) our new addition.

Anyhoo, back to baby business. Felt very pregnant last night but think that was more to do with ingesting a gallon of full fat coke Grin, I seem to go from feeling it and then not - hate this wait for the scan.

Welcome to all the newbies - there's so many of us now!

MrsLionHeart · 11/09/2010 11:42

Liv77 - how did you get the nurse to do your bloodwork? Did you just ask? This is one of my concerns, as some bloodwork is recommended before 10 weeks.

I spent 4 horrible days in hospital at 14 weeks with my first, so would be comforted to at least have a maternity book just in case anything happens!

LisMcA · 11/09/2010 13:07

Seems to be lots of variances in care throughout the country. I'm in West Lothian and when we found out we were pregnant I called Midwife services they booked my "booking" appointment with the midwife and my scan appointment on the same phone call. I only knew to call MW Svs because my friend is PG too and she gave me all the info! Thought this would be the norm. I've also had a couple of appointments with the GP as I have had high blood pressure in the past, but everything was normal :)

My midwife called the other day to just to make sure everything was ok. She said she does that with first timers once they have booked in. I thought that was really lovely. I feel very well looked after so far :o

LadyGoneGaga · 11/09/2010 15:01

Just wanted to let you know that I miscarried this week. Just back from the hospital and they've confirmed everything is gone. Very sad but we are ok and supporting each other.

Want to wish everyone luck in their pregnancies - hope to drop in on you all from time to time when I feel stronger.

cakeslover · 11/09/2010 15:57

I'm really sorry to hear that Lady Sad
Soon enough you will be having good news again, and everything will be fine.
Take good care of yourself and try to keep positive Smile

MissWooWoo · 11/09/2010 16:14

very sorry to hear your sad news lady Sad, keep taking care of each other x

Asterias · 11/09/2010 17:50

lady I'm so sorry. :(

Well my nausea is still aplenty. Going away for a couple of nights for work tomorrow, not looking forward to that. Sleep makes the nausea so much more manageable but my boy is just terrible at night at the moment, awake 2-3 hrs then 1hr later he's awake again and climbing into our bed.

How many bags of crisps are you eating? I'm having at least 4 a day I reckon!

Got my MW appointment beginning of Oct when I'll be 10+6. It's an age away. No scan date til after then, no-one even knows I'm pregnant yet. Sigh.

Went to Eureka today, was ace!

lowra · 11/09/2010 18:02

Just revisiting this thread to catch up on how everyone is doing.

Really sorry to hear your sad news Lady, glad to hear you are taking care of each other.

Mini update from me. 10+5 today. I think the nausea may be subsiding but still feeling utterly exhausted. Going out with my dp tonight to celebrate my birthday but not really feeling very enthusiastic about it.

Some good news, at my MW appt yesterday I heard my baby's heartbeat which was so amazing. Feeling much more confident now and looking forward to my scan, which is 28th Sept. I will be 13 weeks by then!

Does anyone know what they are actually looking for at the first scan? On my letter it just says a dating scan, but will they be looking for anything else, nuchal fold etc?
