A mum or not?

My son died when he was five months old, many years ago. I've never been able to decide whether I'm still a mum or not. And I suddenly find myself feeling a bit fragile about the new Mumsnot section, which is not how I want to be. Maybe if I can make the decision I'll get used to the name.

You absolutely are a mum. To a beautiful son who was taken too soon. X

BlueAndGreenStripes · 07/06/2023 18:44

I’m sorry for your loss.
You are most definitely a mum. As others have said, death does not erase the relationship.

You carried a child, the child was born, you loved and cared for that child. That is the very definition of a mother.

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

100% this, you will always be his mummy ♥️

I'm child free by choice and would say you are a mum. I think after going through something so hard you get to decide and if people don't get why you're still a mum they are the problem not you. Really sorry for your loss.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 07/06/2023 19:03

Thank you all so much, I'm lost for words I might have something in my eye .

@fitzwilliamdarcy I'm sorry, I don't want to make you feel bad. The dichotomy is that I do think it's quite a clever name.

Thank you all for taking the time to post and sorry for those who have lost loved ones too Flowers

merrymelodies · 08/06/2023 08:25

Hello, my mummy friend! I'm so sorry for your loss 💔

WitchDancer · 08/06/2023 09:33

I am a mum to 12 children, even though I only got to meet 2 because of miscarriages. My friend once said to me that a midwife pointed out that every baby you ever carried left cells in you, which I found immensely comforting. I hope that brings you comfort too Flowers

golddustwomen · 08/06/2023 09:42

You will always be a mom op x

AllAboutTheTent · 08/06/2023 10:47

You are and always be a mum. I'm so sorry he died.

You are and will always be a mum. Just in the same way, when my mum dies, she will always be my mum. Even when she's not around any more.
