A mum or not?

My son died when he was five months old, many years ago. I've never been able to decide whether I'm still a mum or not. And I suddenly find myself feeling a bit fragile about the new Mumsnot section, which is not how I want to be. Maybe if I can make the decision I'll get used to the name.

I think you are a mum - you had a child, you are his mother.
I'm so sorry that he died.

Elemenohp · 07/06/2023 17:38

You are a Mum. You will always be his Mum. So sorry for your loss

rubyslippers · 07/06/2023 17:40

You are a mum ❤️

FatGirlSwim · 07/06/2023 17:42

You will always be his mum.

Hairfriar · 07/06/2023 17:44

You are a mum. I don’t think you can be ‘un-mummed’ because your child died (and I’m really sorry for your terrible loss). My parents have died but they’re still my parents. Death doesn’t change that relationship.

TeaKitten · 07/06/2023 17:44

You are a mum, you will always be a mum 💜

Noicant · 07/06/2023 17:45

Definitely a mum 💐

SparklyStone · 07/06/2023 17:46

Of course you are a mum ❤️, sending you lots of love x

Sunny1234567 · 07/06/2023 17:48

You will always be a Mum.

I am so very sorry for your loss.

Connebert · 07/06/2023 17:54

You certainly are. Not a doubt.

JaninaDuszejko · 07/06/2023 17:59

You are always a Mum. So sorry you lost your son.

I hate this tendency to think death removes a relationship. The bank teller kept calling Dad my Mum's 'ex husband' after he died, it's shocking insensitive.

Hoppinggreen · 07/06/2023 17:59

I’m so sorry
You are 100% a Mum

Beginningless · 07/06/2023 18:00

I’m so sorry for your loss. You are absolutely a mum. If/when your mum dies, she remains your mum.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 07/06/2023 18:03

I think the name is down to me and I just wanted to express a sincere apology to you for how my flippant pun has caused you to feel. You are absolutely and categorically a mum, and welcome on the new board.

I have asked @MNHQ to change the name and I hope they do so.

volcanoroll · 07/06/2023 18:03

You can't unbe a mum

ElephantGrey101 · 07/06/2023 18:07

You are definitely a mum and always will be. Do you want to tell us anything about your lovely son.

HeiXiong · 07/06/2023 18:08

I’m so sorry you feel excluded from the new board. I’ve started a thread there asking for a name change. I think it’s a real kick in the teeth for posters who have experienced loss.
I hope @MNHQ listen

bloodywhitecat · 07/06/2023 18:10

You are absolutely a mum.

neverwakeasleepingbaby · 07/06/2023 18:11

Of course you are and always will be a mum ❤️ I'm so sorry for your loss

TheSnowyOwl · 07/06/2023 18:13

I’m so sorry.

I will always consider myself a mum to my dead child. Her siblings know she is their sister and she didn’t leave our family when she died.

Leafytrees · 07/06/2023 18:28

You are a mum❤

mommybear1 · 07/06/2023 18:29

DidyouNO · 07/06/2023 18:38
