Do you swear at/kick your kids?!>!>!

I just watched a bit of "driving mum and dad mad" (car crash tv prog on tonight)

A family were on for help with dealing with their 5 yo ds who was allegedly out of control.

In the 5 mins I was watching, I saw the mother kicking him and shouting "fuck off you little shit" and also, upon finding him with the freezer open and the bottom drawer out, picked him up and threw him out of the room shouting "fucking leave it alone you little fucker"

WHAT DO THEY EXPECT???

I am horrified that this can be televised. It is child abuse IMO

I in fact DO swear in front of dd sometimes. I don't EVER sweat AT her.

I think there is a huge difference

I saw a bit of that show and thought it was horrible. A lot of kids who swear at school also say they swear at home and for them that's normal and they dont get why it is offensive.

I just find it inconceivable that you can go as far as appearing on tv for help when you are acting like that!

It sounds like an awful programme, quite, what do they expect? I have heard children spoken to like this outside ds's school

yes i'm sure, not trying to be holierthanthou but you MUST even if you are the dimmest and sweariest person on earth realise that kicking your 5yo and shouting "fuck off you little shit" will result in behavioural problems. Surely?

It was appauling wasn't it.

The other thing i cannot grasp is these parents having "difficulty" praising their children? I'm not denying i don't have my off days, but generally speaking i praise dd constantly - don't even think about - just say well done, thats a good drawing, thank you for getting dressed so nicely ..... it just comes naturally doesn't it?

That Mum who swears, did you see her when the expert was on the phone to her and told her to go and thank her son. She looked so embarrassed and wasn't sure if she'd be able to do it again over the next few days. HELLO? that is very very sad, i s'pose it begs the question what kind of upbringing they had themselves.

Didn't see it, sounds awful!! I must confess on VERY rare occasions I've sworn at DS1, but if I was doing it on a frequent basis (and brave enough to do it with TV cameras in my face!) I would certainly realise that it was the very basis of my child's behavioural problems (not that he has any, 99% of the time he's an absolute gem - think that's why I get 'extra' stressed when he's naughty - I'm not used to it!)

Families in this situation clearly need help. Not sure the whole thing should be played out on TV .
