DS's triumphs for the day were:

a floaty kind of dance - "I am an anemone dancing to the music of the waves"

"When I die, don't bury me - I am too beautiful. Put me in a glass coffin."

not his butchest day ever

DS1 (now 8, then 5) had just started new school and had been invited to a party at McDonalds. He rushed out of school, waving the invitation excitedly and announced loudly "Mama, I've been invited to a party at McDonalds. I know we don't eat that crap but perhaps you could make me a nice sandwich to take instead?". Was totally mortified but secretly quite proud

schneebly · 15/08/2008 00:15

lol at these - my children are decidedly un-poncey having such common parents But they are very sweet! DS2 (3.5) today:

DS2 "Mummy are you glad I am feeling better?"

me "yes of course sweetheart I am very happy you are all better!"

DS2 "Mummy I am glad you are happy I am feeling better"

me "thank you darling"

DS2 "you are welcome mummy" awwwwww

PetitFilou1 · 15/08/2008 08:51

My two (almost 3 and 4 and 1/2) regularly ask for amaretti biscuits and also for balsamic vinegar. Does that count?

lazaroulovespastries · 15/08/2008 09:12

ds1 asked me 'where does love come from?' the other day.

Dh pipes up 'love comes from the heart darling'

Bleugh, puke!

meandmyjoe · 15/08/2008 09:17

Frannyandzooey, your ds sounds hillarious! Lol to the glass coffin. How cute, he's obviously very modest!

alvinandthechipmunks · 15/08/2008 10:30

My ds (3) is so poncey.

He was messing around at the table the other day and when he was told off said "is that not good etiquette?"
(think his dad must have taught him that one)

And following on from a paint colour in our house now calls purple 'aubergine'.

He no longer asks just for yoghurt but demands 'organic yoghurt'.

There are many, many more. He is going to get beaten up at school if he doesn't tone this down by then!

mamadiva · 15/08/2008 10:42

My 2.2YO DS was playing in the garden the other day ran towards his dad and fell down
he then stood up and proclaimed

'Oh deary me I falled down mummy, silly billy'

Not that poncy I know but I found it hysterical.

mamadiva · 15/08/2008 10:44

Oh and his other thing just now seems to be:

Me:What have you got? Is that a car
DS:Yes it's a car
Me:What colour is the car
DS:Pause, yes I have one car

He can't seem t pick up his colours.

MySwapperIsATortoise · 15/08/2008 10:50

DD, 2.4, last night,

"Some more Brie please, Mummy"

coolbeans · 15/08/2008 12:58

I find that ds (2.7) is shaping up very nicely.
?Maman, what a simply beautiful day?.
(The maman bit is ?cos he?s half French and bilingual, which I suppose is quite poncey in itself).

Similarly - he mixes up his two languages, leading to raised eyebrows from those not used to it.
?Would you like some more juice, dear?? says kindly waitress
?Un peu, please? says son.

He?s also taken to ?fabulous?, with a vengeance, so routine enquiry of
?How are you, ds?? is met with ?Fabulous! maman?. Also can?t keep him out of my makeup bag. I find it endlessly amusing, but I can see DH looking a bit sometimes.

Badgermoose · 15/08/2008 13:29

DD age 2.3

dd (6) has a lovely turm of phrase.

Last week we had:

"When will I ever get any privacy in this house?" (After her 9-year old brother kept invading her room)

and expressing her frustration that I wouldn't let her do something...

"You're always trying to control my life!" (Well, duh...)

Her best was at age 3 after a particularly impressive not-wanting-to-go-to-bed tantrum.

DH & I were doing the putting her back endlessly/ignoring the tantrum routine, but she wasn't going to admit defeat.

So dh went to get the papers, and we sat on the landing reading them, studiously ignoring her increasing crossness.

Eventually she stood glowering at the top of the stairs......

dd: "I hate you."
me: "never mind dear."
dd: "I REALLY hate you."
me: "That's nice dear."
dd (incadescent) "I REALLY hate you, and I hate your clothes."

Ouch

Dh and I had to run downstairs so she couldn't see us laughing.

Nbg · 15/08/2008 16:21

DD came out with a corker the other day.

"Mummy, I just couldnt possibly do that. Its far too advanced for me"

I couldnt reply for about half an hour due to laughing.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 15/08/2008 16:35

my aunt met a new bf who has the same name as the dds cousins when i told dd1 "you must be good because x, aunty's new boyfriend will be there" dd1 replied in a very poncy voice
"but aunty is far too old for x. dont you think she should find some one her own age. it really is not right that she would be with x. honestly"

Heebeejeebee · 15/08/2008 22:37

Not sure how poncy it is (and also as I'm still ttc this is my niece, not my dd!) but my niece, then 3, went round the table pointing saying:
"you're a bossy boots, you're a bossy boots" etc.

I (against my better judgement) said "and are you not a bossy boots?"

She looked at me in consternation and said

"No - I'm a lady, I am"

Cue lots of snorting behind hands...

missblythe · 17/08/2008 13:18

Today

Me, while looking in fridge: "I'm not sure what to make us for lunch today"

DD, 2.4: "Well, we can go to the deli, Mummy"

It makes me shudder, and want to run to Somerfield.

FrannyandZooey · 17/08/2008 14:14

ooh this has popped up again
I had forgotten the glass coffin, marvellous

Friend just emailed me this thread... brilliant.

DS2 has a talent for quotable phrases, but one of my faves was when he was 4 and trying to persuade me that he hadn't had too much telly and it really was OK to watch some more Thomas the Tank:

"It's just a little episode, Mummy. Like a poem!"

And - not really poncey but amusing - DD1 (nearly 2.5) yesterday in the car, incandescent with rage when her vehicle-spotting was corrected by her elder brother:

"Don't you DARE! It's not a tram - it's a bus!"

chipmunkswhereareyou · 19/08/2008 08:22

Ds (age 3) on spotting a wine glass this morning "daddy had wine last night, was it rose?"

falcon · 19/08/2008 13:36

This thread should go in classics.

I'm not a parent at the moment but I'll share my own slightly poncey moment.

I was 4 and in the bath at the time, my mother was with me, I leaned back and said ''So Mother, what's your opinion on the Spanish tradition of bullfighting?''

mumoftwinz · 21/08/2008 16:45

Was visiting Great Granny last weekend. My two were eating icecream in kitchen. G G next door neighbour comes in. Says to her 'oh are they twins' 'Yes they are 4.5' Says to them 'When you getting a job?' Toby replies 'Well I have to go to University first'.

woodstock3 · 21/08/2008 17:21

pre-verbal ponciness...ds can't even talk yet (unless you count 'mummy' and the dog's name) but came with us to lunch at his godmother's recently. he was sitting on her knee while we had pudding. she offered him a bit of her cheesecake as a treat which he promptly spat out. instead he grabbed a big handful of spinach salad and sat primly eating that while all the adults pigged themselves.
