WideWebWitch · 03/08/2002 19:12

Oxocube, you're not sad! How nice! ds' second tooth just came out and I put it in an envelope with the date on it..(we lost the first one)

Hi · 03/08/2002 19:19

oxocube it's a wonderful sight, I remember and there are lots more little things like that that make life wonderful! I send everyone boring emails/phone them everything something like that happens. DD counted 6 balloons today all by herself!

florenceuk · 03/08/2002 23:23

Ok I get back to finding my way around here, you ladies are so fast.

MABS · 04/08/2002 13:01

brilliant oxocube, was he pleased with himself ? - how old is ds?

Joe1 · 04/08/2002 17:28

I dont think you are sad. I think it is a very exciting and proud time when they do something new and very grown up

slug · 04/08/2002 17:32

Not sad at all, when the sluglet first crawled, I rushed her round to MIL and made her show off her new skill.

MalmoMum · 04/08/2002 18:20

oxocube its not sad at all it great to share memorable moments with others i remember posting when Ds sat up all on his own. You just feel so proud you have to tell someone and where better to start than on mumsnet! So if you're sad then so am I.
Well done to your DS xxx

tigermoth · 04/08/2002 20:00

You're not sad oxocube, but your news is sad in one way I think - when your baby stands it gives you an inkling that of the toddler to be and the babyhood that will be lost.

I have mixed feelings about milestones - you lose and you gain. The day my boys lose all their baby teeth will be sad one for me.

When ds took his first steps (3, from his toy castle to the sofa) I rang all my close relatives immediately to tell them.

When dd took her first steps she did at a very young age and it in front of all of my NCT coffee group (very in character for dd, I have to say). The next day she took a walk at nursery and came home with a little certificate to say she'd done it.

wmf · 08/08/2002 20:03

We Mumsnetmums use these boards so much for the rough stuff, that reading about happy things makes Mumsnet even better! So keep posting!

leander · 20/08/2002 08:42

Hes done it he has crawled ,My ds started off doing one or two little crawls then doing his skydiving immpression but now he is away there is no stopping him!!!

PamT · 20/08/2002 08:45

Time to get the stairgates, socket covers, cupboard locks and put away all those pot plants and ornaments. You'll be wanting to turn back time when he's getting into mischief. It is lovely though when they start doing something new!

Azzie · 20/08/2002 09:35

My ds rode his bike without stabilizers for the first time last week, and he did it really well. I rang my mum and MIL so that he could tell them himself, he was so chuffed and so was I.

emsiewill · 20/08/2002 10:53

Just had to tell you all that dd1 - who has been going to swimming lessons daily for the last week and a half - swam a width on her back and a width on her front today, without any help.
Made me feel like this

She's 5.5, but we've been taking her swimming since she was 5 months old, and she didn't need lessons to give her confidence, just to learn actually what to do to swim.
The most frustrating thing is that the swimming pool is attached to a school, and there's no viewing area like at the local leisure centre, so I don't get to see her triumph (although have to admit, I did sneak a peek today)

aloha · 20/08/2002 19:32

My darling ds (11mos, 3days) said his first word today - 'moo!' - pointed at a picture of a cow and said, 'moo'. I was amazed, said, 'what does the cow say?' & he said 'moo'. I'm SOOOOO proud! No feeling like it!

Marina · 20/08/2002 19:51

Particularly nice thread to visit in these sad days - well done to little Miss Emsiewill, swimming that far at her age is a great achievement. and Aloha - in no time at all you will not get a word in edgeways. Congrats to your ds!

Bozza · 20/08/2002 20:50

Great news emmsiewill. My DS (18 mo) adores swimming and I've been taking him to parent/child sessions since the same age as your daughter so I hope he gets there too. He is very confident in water and will jump in, go under and come bobbing up (aided by arm bands, of course) with a massive grin on his face. Couldn't make it this week so took him to the general swim and there were lots of older kids there, jumping in, making waves, splashing etc and he enjoyed it even more than the class. Your story has helped to inspire me to keep taking him although its probably worth it just for the fun and bonding.
