I'm proud because my 4yo had her first day at school today and after all the worrying and tears at nursery, we got to school, she took the hand of her best friend and went into class with a smile and barely a backward glance. then at 12pm she rushed out and hugged my legs and said I didn;t cry Mummy! And she looked so sweet in her uniform!! Don;t you just love them!!!!

ionesmum · 20/08/2002 22:40

Lovely stories! This isn't quite on the same scale, but in the last week dd has rolled over all the way, had dinner in her high chair, had lumpy food inc. mashed banana and homecooked rice, and gone out in her buggy (as opposed to pram), all for the first time!

salalex · 20/08/2002 22:43

Ah Ionesmum, i do like hearing from you after the difficult start you've had. all the moments are special, I'm so glad you sound like you have such a happy time with your dd. Love to youxxx

Just caught my slightly less confident boy 'reading' to his twin... Hadn't realised how much he was taking in- perfectly followable and accurate story complete with "No XXXX, you must listen when I'm reading!" asides! His twin and I were spellbound.

I love reading the stories on this thread. I think we've all got a lot to be proud of...

Zoe · 21/08/2002 09:38

I'm proud because my ds is one today - he's just opened all his presents, played with the paper and danced to the Breakfast theme tune in the kitchen, "talked" to his grandma on the phone, had a big bowl of weetabix and a run round the kitchen.

Now he's asleep, and I'm having a good cry thinking how wonderful he is and what a rollercoaster this years been - and all your posts are making me cry too!

AnnieMo · 21/08/2002 21:18

And you never stop being proud of them - I think my 12 year old ds is amazing - he has had such a rough time - his younger brother died three years ago, and recently my dh has been ill and in hospital for some time - he has just started his secondary school which is huge compared to his tiny primary school and is coping with it all amazingly - I just think he is wonderful.

MABS · 21/08/2002 21:22

I'm pround cos my 22 month old (who has cerebral palsy ) said 'wuv yooo mamaa' ...pity I was in Sainsburys, but I still welled up and rushed to the toy dept to buy him a pressie

ionesmum · 21/08/2002 22:11

Salalex and sobernow - oh I don't know what to say, thank you so much. My dd is just the joy of my life and I love the new things that each day brings...thank you both so much for caring and we both send you hugs and good wishes!

We were in the garden today and dd said 'I love you mummy, you are the best mummy in the world and you smell nice'

It made me remember why I wanted to have another one

Chinchilla · 21/08/2002 23:05

All these things brought a lump to my throat, and a tear to my eye. Can't wait for ds to talk now.

lilibet · 21/08/2002 23:16

this is such a nice thread, a real lump in the throat read, I could burst with pride sometimes looking at my three. My best moment recently was when I shut ds2's hand in the boot of the car (just re read that!!!! doesn't sound quite right, but read on!) and had to take him to casualty and ds1 who is 3 1/2 years older had his arm round the other ones shoulders all the time, it was so touching esp as 30 mins before they had been trying to kill one another. Ds2 was fine, enjoyed the attention and got given a sling! BTW total time in casualty inc x rays 40 mins!! When I had dd some one wrote in a card ' children are what life is all about'it's so true.

Oh how great.

It's funny how poo becomes a normal topic of conversation once babies appear.

alexsmum · 23/08/2002 00:04

I had a very proud moment today when my nephew phoned me up to tell me his amazingly good GCSE results.I was nearly in tears! I know he's not my child but all I could think was " I used to change your nappies and take you for walks in your pram and now you're just so clever "

My 2 year old also made me so proud today.I was looking for something and he told me"Mummy, I think maybe its in the bag"....how good a sentence is that for a 2 year old( and he's not 2 and a half yet either)!!!?? Can you sense me glowing? His speech has come in leaps and bounds recently..its great!!

jenny2998 · 23/08/2002 21:15

My dd is not quite 17 months and has started telling me when she's done a poo! I have been so excited!

aloha · 29/08/2002 21:55

Ds (11mos) has now added hissing noises (snake) and growling noises (lion) to his repertoire of animal noises (his moo-ing is getting better and better!). And last weekend he said balloon!!! At least, he pointed at a balloon and said 'bloon' - and then did it again later at different balloons. Hooray! He also very accurately imitates me saying 'oh!' whenever he drops anything, which is very cute and funny. V.v.proud.

lou33 · 29/08/2002 22:35

Ds of 18 months who has cerebral palsy managed to finally "commando" crawl yesterday, using only his arms to drag himself across the floor. My heart almost burst with pride.

aloha · 29/08/2002 23:49

Oh, well done DSLou33! What a brave boy.

Azzie · 30/08/2002 06:15

It was my grandfather's funeral yesterday, and dh and I attended with both ds (nearly 5) and dd (2.75). They were both so good - they were quiet and well behaved through the service, then played nicely at the wake afterwards, chatted to anyone who spoke to them and generally displayed perfect manners. Loads of people commented on how well-behaved they were - they were a real credit to me (and dh too of course ) on a day when I really needed them to be super. I'm so proud of them both.

ionesmum · 30/08/2002 10:47

What great stories. Thank you, this makes a great start to my day.

I love this thread, thanks for bringing it back, always gives me a lump in my throat and a 'aren't children wonderful' feeling! My ds2 has just played tarzan on the shower curtain which is now all over the floor - wrong thread for that tale!.

FrancesJ · 30/09/2002 20:07

Awww, that's lovely, Sobernow.
