Good luck Meggle and little Meggle.

23balloons · 25/03/2007 10:09

Hi Just saw this thread and thought I would let you know what happened to ds1 when he was approx 3.5. He suddenly lost the use of his legs couldn't even get off the sofa for a few days and before that he fell a lot and got weaker, he was hardly eating at the time either though so was definitely ill with something too.

We spent the day at A&E being seen by various doctors and having tests. They couldn't be sure what it was but thought it was neuro problem - think a part at the back of the brain. They said the condition can often occur after chickenpox but ds had had chickenpox a year earlier. The good news for us was he regained the use of his legs after about a week but they told me it could take months.

I didn't find out exactly what had happened to him because I refused further blood tests when he was well. They took blood at the time and it was so traumatic for him I couldn't put him through it again. One thing they said was this condition sometimes follows a virus. I remember he had had the antibiotic ethromycn not long before it happened and I personnaly felt that it was not a good antibiotic for him and had noted in his red book I didn't want him to ever have this antib again.

Not sure if any of this helps you or even if your son has the same thing but I do know how you feel it was so scary and I just couldn't believe how quickly it happened to him. Good luck and I really hope your son recovers as quickly as mine did if he does have the same thing.

ThisEasterTime · 25/03/2007 13:24

Such good news that there is not tumours showing. Thinking of you, DS & your DH cervix!!!

PeachyClair · 25/03/2007 13:26

So gla to hear that option has been ruled out Meggle .

you sound like you're coping with it really well, all considering.

still to you all

BTW PMSL at the hypnobirth CD

geekgrrl · 25/03/2007 13:34

Megg, glad they've ruled a few things out and that they're being so quick about trying to get to the bottom of this.
Thinking of you all.

ShowOfHands · 25/03/2007 13:35

What a relief that they haven't found anything obviously wrong and no tumours. A friend's DD had a quite severe regression in the use of her left leg at three years old- got progressively worse over a week and ended up not using it at all. That was the result of a virus too, much like 23balloons describes. All was well within a few weeks. Not sure if having ruled out obvious causes, it could be a viral issue with little Meggle. Anyway, just to let you know that I know of somebody who experienced a similar thing- you said similar stories helped and this had a great outcome. Said child is now a very boisterous 6yr old, using her left leg mainly for ballet, football and running after her poor brother in order to tease him relentlessly.

PMSL at DH and your hypnobirthing CD. Just wait until he starts having contractions then he really will be stealing your thunder. Will continue to think about you, DH and DS.

And in terms of having contractions yourself, drink lots of water- dehydration, stress and sleep deprivation makes braxton hicks so much worse.

indiajane · 25/03/2007 13:35

Hi Meggle, just read this and wanted to say good luck, thinking of you all.

Miaou · 25/03/2007 13:36

Megg, that is such positive news at this stage!! Hopefully they will get to the bottom of what's causing it but good to get some of the really scary stuff out of the way so quickly. Hope you get him home soon and get some more answers.

Sorry you had such a bad night on the ward - telly until 10pm (but I guess there are lots of ill little people in there so ... argh, no it would still make me cross!). ROFL at your dh and the CD

swifterella · 25/03/2007 13:46

hi meggle only just caught this thread. notmuch toadd just wanted to say good luck with it all. you sound like a lovely mum and your ds sounds gorgeous. x

sunnysideup · 25/03/2007 14:00

meggle, so glad there's been some good news. With a sense of humour like your dh's (and yours cos you were able to laugh at him!) you'll cope with whatever comes for sure! Hope he doesn't go into labour the same time as you

Thinking of you all x

imaginaryfriend · 25/03/2007 15:21

I remember that feeling of post-scan relief, meggle!

How is your DS doing? Does he show any improvements in himself or just the same or any worse? Do the doctors tell you what they suspect or what they're ruling out?

I remember how noisy a hospital ward is too. For us it was a father on the opposite side who watched t.v. until midnight while his baby was asleep. Neither dd nor I could sleep a wink so I told the nurse to ask him to turn it down and he was really ratty about it but he'd been in there for weeks and weeks so I guess he was fed up in general. Then there was the phone going on the nurses station and them all chatting loudly. We got very little sleep!

Good luck for today, will be waiting to hear your news

Boco · 25/03/2007 15:38

Sorry to hear about all this worry you're having. We've been going through something similar with my dd2 - she recently had an MRI scan as they were worried about a neurological problem - specifically neuroblastoma - and although they've ruled out tumours, there's still confusion about what is happening, and we're still waiting around for results. It's very very scary and stressful, and her absolute gorgeousness and happiness is what's getting me through it.

Hope you get some answers soon

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 25/03/2007 15:51

Glad you've got some good news so quickly meggle. Hope it continus that way.

foxinsocks · 25/03/2007 15:57

oh meggle, thank goodness the scan is clear. Fingers crossed for all the other tests (and lol at dh and the hypnobirthing cd!).
