To not give my son his vaccines?

salmaahmed · 03/04/2017 01:35

I've done my research and read a lot of things about how toxic the vaccines the NHS offer to parents for our children are. My local gp have asked me several times to give him his whooping cough and flu jab injections but I really don't want to. Read all sorts about how they have mercury in them (very poisonous for human bodies).

Any other parents agree or disagree?

OP if you fancy scaring yourself, Google
Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis
then get yourself down to GP to get your child vaccinated

Yabu

When you say you have "done your research" you mean that you have read and believed scare-story non-scientific claptrap from a bunch of deluded people not qualified to make life-and-death judgements on behalf of children.

You have been caught in the same Web of lies as Trump voters and Brexiteers - people who want to win an argument without worrying about truth always have a prettier and more attractive story to tell because they can just make stuff up, and only need to think about what will make the most appealing story. People whose first concern is accurate facts have a less jazzy tale to tell as the truth is always complex an multifaceted and so you need to be cautious to surround statements about evidence with clarification of probabilities etc and you don't make dramatic and crowd-pleasing claims because that is hype and spin that has no place in real science.

Real science says it is sensible to vaccinate all children except the tiny number who are immuno-compromised or have a dangerous allergy to an unavoidable vaccine ingredient.

Anyone who says differently is directly contributing to the death and lifetime disability of children.

Unless your GP is proposing giving your child 10000 doses of vaccine then YABVU.

Dying of measles or TB or meningitis or polio is also pretty bad for you.

LadyFlumpalot · 03/04/2017 10:12

OP, would you give your child penicillin if a doctor prescribed it? Would you take it yourself? I'm only asking because I'm deathly allergic to it. As is my mum.

Therefore, by the same reasoning as your rejection to vaccines, no-one should take the life-saving antibiotics as I know a couple of people who would die if they took it.

Ditto oranges. Stop eating oranges. A friend of mine choked on a pip once.

Also grapes. Small children have died eating grapes.

Also beds. Stop sleeping in beds. People have died falling out of beds you know.

EVERYTHING in this world is dangerous to somebody. It's all a matter of risk vs benefit. In the case of vaccines the benefits massively outweigh the risks.

Tl;dr - vaccinate your child. You'll never forgive yourself if you don't and they catch a preventable illness.

"I've done my research"

LOL

funnily enough so have nice. Reckon they are a bit more qualified than you...

FruitCider · 03/04/2017 10:30

You have done your research? Are you a scientist?

yikesanotherbooboo · 03/04/2017 11:19

Is this a real post?

Nicotina · 03/04/2017 11:29

You are wrong, op , and putting your child at risk. You are also putting immunocompromised people like me at risk of death. You don't get to make a choice about my life.
But you're probably a troll and just having fun.
Nice.

Efferlunt · 03/04/2017 11:37

You've made up my mind about getting the whooping cough vaccine in pregnancy OP. It wasn't a thing when I was pregnant with the last two and I was wondering why it is now.

It's clearly because of people who 'research' rubbish on the internet and then put not just their own kids but babies and those children who can't be vaccinated at risk.

This makes me very angry.

BounceBounceSplishSplash · 03/04/2017 13:01

Is this another one of those threads where the OP writes a controversial post and then doesn't bother coming back? Hmm

thethoughtfox · 03/04/2017 13:11

Please don't believe everything you read. Speak to actual medical professionals or read journals. If you don't vaccinate your children, you are endangering them and other vulnerable people who can't get vaccinated for proper reasons.

ChocolateButton15 · 03/04/2017 13:38

There's a child in my daughters school that has cancer and they sent a letter urging parents to ensure all the kids are up to date with vaccines, your child could pass on something to a child with a comprised immune system. Also the illnesses the vaccines protect against are deadly and life changing. Children do die of whooping cough even in this day and age. Also measles/mumps are making a come back as people don't vaccinate, measles was also reported in my child's school recently.

Allthebestnamesareused · 03/04/2017 13:41

YABU - that is all!

Jenk99216 · 03/04/2017 17:01

I think this is probably a troll post looking to wind people up!!
Look up 'light for Riley' on facebook
Little Riley was just 4 weeks old when he caught whooping cough and died in Perth Australia 😥

WombOfOnesOwn · 03/04/2017 17:46

The vaccine issue is really just the "trolley problem" from first-year philosophy courses:

Ten people are standing around on the tracks where a train will hit them unless you pull a switch. But if you pull the switch, it'll hit one person on the other track.

Clearly the utilitarian idea is to save the ten people and kill the one, but most people when faced with the dilemma choose not to throw the switch, because taking an action that results in someone losing their life is seen as more momentous and terrible than simply declining to take any action in the first place.

People who refuse to vaccinate their children are doing the very same thing. More children will die because of their inaction, but they see it as the only viable option because they don't want to be responsible for taking a specific action that causes someone harm -- if "nature" causes the harm due to their inaction, they feel less responsible.

Vaccinate your kids song: m.youtube.com/watch?v=8YCGMqp6kBE

MycatsaPirate · 03/04/2017 17:56

Are you part of that anti-vaxxers group on facebook? The drivel some of those people post is priceless.

Vaccines were developed to stop thousands of people dying from disease. It's as simple as that.

Hepatitis B, meningitis, polio, mumps, measles, rubella, whooping cough.

Why not actually google what these diseases will do to your child if they catch them?

Do you think scientists waste time and money searching for a cure for things that don't matter?

Put it this way, IF your child isn't vaccinated and IF your child does catch one of these diseases, what would you do? Take them to the doctors or hospital? Put your faith in the modern medicine you are claiming is poison? You do realise that catching one of these things would mean your child needing MORE stuff injected into them to try to save their life?

Give your head a wobble and make the appointment.

paddypants13 · 03/04/2017 19:10

Tisa - I bloody love that song.

Op, in the words of the song, bloody vaccinate you bloody kids you bloody idiot.

KarmaKit · 03/04/2017 19:11

Yawn.

Amockingjayhey · 04/04/2017 12:30

Yabu and ignorant and dangerous

summerlovinggirl · 15/04/2017 15:26

I would think you've never personally had whooping cough then?
Having had it a few years ago, I can say it was truly awful and stayed with me for months till I fully recovered from it. I cannot even begin to think how awful it would be to watch I child suffer through that. I coughed so bad I struggled to breath. Never would I risk my child going my through that.

Youdontwanttodothat · 15/04/2017 15:31

Whooping cough nearly killed me as a baby. I'm in my 50s. The look on my rough tough no nonsense Mum's face when she recounts it is heartbreaking.

EweAreHere · 15/04/2017 15:33

Whooping cough kills babies.

You are a prime idiot.
