My 2 year old dd is starting to recognise that boys have 'willies' and girls don't. What do I tell her girls have? 'Fanny' I don't like, and other than that. I haven't got any ideas. Anyone any suggestions?

we call it a minnie, most people i know do

CarolinaMooncup · 21/04/2006 21:00

Front bottom Grin

dunno, actually, only have a ds atm.

There are a few threads on this subject - lots of twinkles and minkies (bleurgh) and the odd fanjo. My personal fave is vulva Smile.

CarolinaMooncup · 21/04/2006 21:01

twinkies not twinkles, what was I thinking...

FrannyandZooey · 21/04/2006 21:01

Oh man. This subject has spawned some epic threads.

Ok, as HC appears to be absent right now, I will don the mantle of truth.

It's a vulva. Tell your dd to say vulva. Good luck.

nutcracker · 21/04/2006 21:01

It's Winkie and Fairy in this house.

nutcracker · 21/04/2006 21:02

Actually Dd2 calls hers a Fairy Toogle but I have no idea why.

Peachyclair · 21/04/2006 21:08

it was twinkle when i was a girl.

it's all wee wee and holey wee wee now. part of the literalness of sam, i guess

Hattie05 · 21/04/2006 21:12

Its a minnie moo here.

tortoise · 21/04/2006 21:13

its a foo foo here! Me and my sister used to say it was a woozel! no idea why Grin

CarolinaMooncup · 21/04/2006 21:13

tee hee tipex Grin

spidermama · 21/04/2006 21:14

I can't bear euphemisms. I think they can do damage to our body images. I think 'family' names simply store up trouble for later.

Vulva and penis. Fanny and willy. These are the universals in my book, which everyone understands.

I thought a 'twinkie' was a light snack.
Front bottom is highly objectionable and clearly designed due to deep rooted shame which we women should not still be feeling about our bodies.

As for 'noo noo' at 56 Shock! No no.

HappyMumof2 · 21/04/2006 21:17

I can not imagine getting my 2.5 yr old to say 'vulva' and fanny! Shock

hunkermunker · 21/04/2006 21:19

Twinkies are candy bars in America.

Minnie is a well-known cartoon mouse.

Noo-noo is a vacuum cleaner on Teletubbies.

All kinds of euphemisms for female genitalia are actual things.

So...Pussy, maybe?

(just kidding - wanted to make LGJ and VVV wince Grin)

hunkermunker · 21/04/2006 21:20

"There are fairies at the bottom of the garden"

whole new meaning if the child in question thinks that fairies are...well, you get the picture.

magnolia1 · 21/04/2006 21:20

Fanny and Willy here and all the girls say it in front of others if the need arrises without any problems Smile

Although dd4 on the bus saying to a strange man 'you have willy?' Blush He thought it was funny and so of course now she does too!!

mistressmiggins · 21/04/2006 21:22

I dont care what it's called - just wish DD (22 mths) would stop sticking her finger up it all the time!!

both mine are fiddlers

DS is always playing with his and then cries when it gets bigger !!

irishmum · 21/04/2006 21:29

tried to teach my ds to say 'penis',but he's 7 and still calls it his 'peanuts'!,better than 'willy wonka' c/o best friends son.(caused a lot of sniggers when charlie and the chocolate factory was watched at Easter!!

spidermama · 21/04/2006 21:39

Let's remember these are our hang ups, not theirs. Let's try not to pass them on for the sake of our daughters.

My grandmother used to call menstruation 'The Curse' fgs! Imagine telling your dd that soon, as with all women before her and for the rest of her life, she would be visited every lunar cycle by The Curse. Heheheheheheheheh!

Hattie05 · 21/04/2006 21:41

It does not damage bodily image. My daughter calls hers a minnie moo, but knows that it is her vagina and that minnie moo is our name for it, just like boys have penis's that they call willies!

I cannot stand the term fanny - hence our opting for minnie moo.

bramblina · 21/04/2006 21:41

Oh this is a good thread, had me rofl.
Call it a flower.

hunkermunker · 21/04/2006 21:42

Bramblina, see, this is the kind of thing I mean.

Would you like to smell this flower...becomes a whole new sentence!

zazas · 21/04/2006 21:47

I have never thought to tell my DD and DS to call them anything else but vagina and penis! Never realise how unimaginative I was!

spidermama · 21/04/2006 21:47

My mum coyly allowed us to call it an 'emby' because it's emby-tween. (Rolls eyes) Funnily enough, none of my friends knew what on earth I was talking about so I had to start speaking their language and their language was 'fanny'. Why is the word so offensive? It's not derogatory. I don't get it. Do some of you think it has sexual conotations?
