Do online Aspergers tests have any truth to them?

Have thought for a long time I have a problem in social situations (I get scared when talking to people in rl and do not know what to say, I don't know when to stop talking and I seem to talk without thinking along with other problems) and have been trying to get to the root of where this comes from.

I do not think I have Aspergers but have taken an online AQ test and scored 37 which seems to be fairly high.

I am sure this is not the problem as I do not think something like that would be missed all through school etc) but perhaps there is something with similar traits?

Shall I set one up?

Any ideas for names?

fuzzpig · 12/10/2012 10:18

Damn! FB won't let me set up a group until I can invite members to it.

I can make it a secret group BTW so only other members will know.

Could people pm me names/email address or something? Then I could add everyone and set up the group?

I'm all overexcited Blush

SchrodingersMew · 12/10/2012 10:33

I have sent you my FB details, so you can add me. :)

schrodingers yes I think we should all jump on the thread at the same time and give them all a fright.

fuzzpig · 12/10/2012 12:22

:o

FB group is set up, it's set to secret. Off out in a bit (to a mental health assessment, YAY!) but I am expecting more PMs so I can add you all when I return.

SchrodingersMew · 12/10/2012 12:49

Pedantic I've went on to the other thread. Nervous! Think there's more of a chance of me getting a fright! Jumping on a thread that has been going for ages to me is like getting on a packed bus with a pram...

Fuzz Do let us know how it goes. :)

PedanticPanda · 12/10/2012 13:48

I'll pop over and join you schrodinger

SchrodingersMew · 12/10/2012 13:50

Don't get me started on getting on a crowded bus with a pram! Shock I am soooo glad our local bus is relatively spacious and usually very buggy friendly - unlike where I used to live in greater London. Bus journeys were bad enough there before I even had a baby!

Don't worry I got it :o

SchrodingersMew · 12/10/2012 19:12

The buses here are terrible, they are always packed, I completely avoid them.

My head is a mess, just sat my ou exam. Don't think I did very well but nevermind, 3 months free to play video games and occasionally parent Wink

Off to pm now...

HanSolo · 12/10/2012 20:18

this thread is reassuring in a mildy fraeking out way!
I score between 47 and 49 on that test (have done several times)
99% sure I have AS

My sister I am sure has AS, and has diagnosis for EDSIII.

I think my darling girl child has AS, but we haven't gone down diagnosis route yet Sad

Yeah, and my epidural failed!

SummerRain · 12/10/2012 20:31

I'm starting to be very relieved I didn't have an epidural!

devilinside · 12/10/2012 20:52

Fuzzpig have sent you my name to add to the facebook group.

fuzzpig · 13/10/2012 10:41

My epidural failed too! Although I think it may have been because the anaesthetist didn't turn up for a couple of hours. I had a sedation when I had a wisdom tooth out in my late teens and that didn't work either, I could feel everything

The really bizarre thing is, DH is the same. He has asked to be assessed for AS as well. He really struggles with a lot of things, although he is different from me in that mostly he doesn't care (eg he is happy without friends whereas I am not) but maybe that is more a gender thing (apparently Aspie girls tend to get missed because we get better at hiding our symptoms). We had always thought his difficulties, particularly with trust, are to do with his horrific childhood, but I am starting to wonder if it is something like AS too.

Sorry, waffling now. Have added people who've PMed me (pleased that I've worked out how to do it from the mobile app)

fuzzpig · 13/10/2012 10:46

Sorry about the exam summer, it is horrible worrying about it. Have you got a new course starting in January?

I am really struggling with my OU stuff too. Need to phone up student support as I've missed the last two TMAs and the exam is on Monday. Planning to take interrupted study for a year. Having CFS/ME has ruined everything, even my brain which was the one aspect of myself I actually liked. Bastard illness Angry

SummerRain · 13/10/2012 13:18

That's awful fuzzpig, I hope they let you take the course again without fleecing you for it given the circumstances.

I have two starting in Jan, oceanography and evolution. Yesterday was s216, I think I did alright compared to most after reading the forum but we'll see. What are you studying?

SchrodingersMew · 13/10/2012 14:25

Summer Sorry about the exam. :( What game will you be playing to cheer yourself up? Wink

Fuzz I hope you manage to take it again aswell. :( I'm sure if you explain the CFS stuff they will understand, do you have support for disabled students? I have Fibro as well and I understand, sometimes I swear my brain just wont work, it's all there but foggy.

I'm studying an open degree which I now really regret. I wish I'd stuck to maths (most of what I've done so far is maths). My stupid brain won't settle on one thing! Grrrr. Without this current course (child development) I have half a degree. So far been fully funded due to our income, been really lucky to have that and feel like I've thrown it all away. Local region is shut today so haven't been able to speak to them, I could phone the central office but I'm not sure it'll do any good.

I would like to distract myself with games too! Current obsession is Rhythm Paradise on wii - I am awesome at it :o
