Once I have finished bleaching the dds room and then myself, how do I go about punishing them/making them understand?

I kept smelling a funny smell in their room, so since I had a full day today to do cleaning I decided to investigate where it was coming from. I wish I hadn't now.

maybe they did it in their sleep?

tbh i don't think there is much more you can do than you have already done.

gross though and poor you.

thisisyesterday · 11/10/2010 18:14

oh dear.
i have to say it is probably just one of those things children do

i can remember peeing in the corner of the tent in my friend's garden. we thought it was hilarious to wee outside and we both did it, and both our older brothers did too

so, i think i would just point out that it is unacceptable, if they need the toilet they use the toilet!
and the pink bucket will have to go in the bin, as will anything else they spoil

scurryfunge · 11/10/2010 18:14

Is it more likely to be the three year old?

If so back to nappies at night if she can't be bothered to use the toilet.

Remove the bucket also Grin

Mum72 · 11/10/2010 18:15

Take photos and show them to thier friends at their 18th birthday party.

Frrightattendant · 11/10/2010 18:15

This is normal.

DooinMeSizers · 11/10/2010 18:18

The bin is in the yard. I can't face doing anything with it just yet. I am hoping once it airs/cools down the smell won't be so bad.

It was next the radiator. I presume that is why the smell has been getting worse since we turned the heating on a few days ago.

My youngest DD peeed in her toy box but it was a dirty protest....

booooooooooyhoo · 11/10/2010 18:22

bin the ...er bin.

but before you do, show them it. actually seeing it with you beside them might embarass them enough not to want to go through that again.

it does sound normal though.

childrenofthecornsilk · 11/10/2010 18:24

Maybe they had an accident and tried to clean up?

DooinMeSizers · 11/10/2010 18:26

No cornsilk. I mean it was half full, not just a bit. That whole corner of the room has been bleached now.

DirtyMartini · 11/10/2010 18:29

Agree, take photos and threaten them with them in later life. Even if you never use 'em, it'll be a bargaining chip Grin

NickOfTime · 11/10/2010 18:31

it does sound entirely normal... i don't think they'll do it again though Grin

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 11/10/2010 18:34

I do think it is normal. DS went through a phase of peeing in the garden, even though we told him to use the toilet in the house.

Curious minds come up with strange ideas sometimes.

NotAnotherBrick · 11/10/2010 18:37

Hahahahahahaha Grin

Normal experimenting, I'm afraid. Although, thankfully, none of my children have tried this delightful thing yet!

Just ask them not to do it again and explain why it's unhygienic and leave it at that. And throw the bucket away.

zazen · 11/10/2010 18:38

Wow, do you think it was one event? Could they have half filled it in one go, or do you think they've been doing it for a while.

I would be very wary of "punishing" them tbh. I wouldn't think it's fair.

I think you need to supervise / parent them a bit more TBH. They are 6 and 3. If they've been doing this for a while, how could this have happened, I mean where have you been???

Remember, children don't just get on with it like weeds. You need to parent them actively, this slop bucket is a witness to their neglect: benign or otherwise.

I think you have had enough punishment by cleaning up! Just as well they weren't drinking it, or smearing it around.

thisisyesterday · 11/10/2010 18:39

zazen some of us aren't over-protective helicopter parents

i allow my 5.5 yr old and 3 year old to play upstiars on their own.
it doesn't take long to piss in a bucket.

piratecat · 11/10/2010 18:40

yep i cannot understand how it could be half full, and youd not investigated it b4 now. very strange.

NotAnotherBrick · 11/10/2010 18:41

zazen - that's a bit bloody harsh! Shock Aren't your children allowed to play upstairs on their own ever? Shock

AlgebraKnocksItUpANotchBAM · 11/10/2010 18:41

Euwww

On a practical/devil's advocate note, are they scared of going out of their room to the loo?

Can you provide a nightlight or torch, maybe a potty in their room?

amidaiwish · 11/10/2010 18:41

oh get over yourself zazen.
i hope your children (that's if you actually have any) never do anything that you don't see.

tiredlady · 11/10/2010 18:41

Was there loo roll in the bin?

If not didn't you notice dirty knickers or anything?

NotAnotherBrick · 11/10/2010 18:42

My nappy bucket doesn't smell at all with the lid on. I can quite see how she could have not discovered it until now if it had only just started smelling.

amidaiwish · 11/10/2010 18:43

at least they didn't knock it over, be grateful it was contained. eugh...

Northernlurker · 11/10/2010 18:44

Zazen - I think that's a pretty harsh post you've made there. The op has not neglected her children. Sometimes children behave in unpredictable ways. Allowing them to think for themselves is really important as well as keeping half an eye on them.
Are you trying to make the op feel like crap? (no pun intended)

FlyingInTheCLouds · 11/10/2010 18:46

v normal. Zazen Hmm
