Just had my beautiful boy.. dh won't agree on name

On sunday evening I had my beautiful son.I had decided to wait and see what he looked like and then name him.

DH loves Calvin and I have always hated it.
We both agreed that we both liked Rocco while pregnant but he doesn't suit it at all now he's born.

A while back on mumsnet I asked for opinions on the name Beau.I'd say 90 percent of mn's hated Beau as did people in RL.

Soon as he was born I couldn't help but think he looked like/suited Beau Alexander. That's his name to me and even the midwives said he looked like a Beau rather than something harsh like Rocco.

DH says he cannot ever call his son Beau.He said it's too much to live up to.He would be ashamed to call out his name in the supermarket etc.

He wants to call our son Kelly or Rocco/Rocky so his taste his hardly normal!!

Our ds1 is 2yrs and called Ellis James(dh named him but I happened to love the name).

At one stage DH said he would consider Beauregard (as it's a proper name)and even though I don't really love it I would still have it as it's the best compromise.
Now he's saying he won't consider Beauregard!

DH still has a week or two left to spend with us.We should be enjoying the baby and family so I'm not bringing up the subject of names as it will end in an argument.

Don't know what to do.Shall I keep trying to get the name I love?DH is very stubborn.Just doesn't seem fair that I'm always the one that gives in to him and he seems to get his own way.

Sorry that this post is so long.
Thanks for reading.

I really don't know if Beaumont would be wise -- The Beaumont Society is a support group for transsexuals, transvestites, cross dressers and spouses/ partners, etc.

Yikes.

CindarellaRach, have you reached a decision yet?

Rhuidean · 10/07/2010 10:55

Always google your name choice!

Cinderellarach · 11/07/2010 16:58

Now 1 week old and no name..just Baba!

Starting to accept DP won't be persuaded for the name I want.

Mookymoo-you mentioned Keri. Both me and DP like this name but spelt Kerry instead.

Thinking Kerry Samson Beau. We're going to call him that in private and if it suits think it will be the one.

Dp still loves Kelly and Rocco but I think Kerry is slightly nicer.

Wonders what would be a nn for Kerry though?

Thanks again for helpful comments

Is Kelly not more common as a girls name? As is Tracey and Hilary.

It may get shortened to Kel I suppose.

Smellie Kelly perhaps?

Rhuidean · 11/07/2010 20:05

*Kerry

So that would the the slightly better Merrie Kerry

Rhuidean · 11/07/2010 20:06

arggg * Merry

SagacityNell · 11/07/2010 20:11

I think of Kerry and Kelly as girls names - sorry!

LOVE Rocco/Roscoe though!

Fimbo · 11/07/2010 20:14

Kerry would end up as Kez or Kezzer.

I have an Adam and even he has nicknames!

Phoenix · 11/07/2010 20:16

I still wouldn't go with a girls name. Samson is lovely

Rockbird · 11/07/2010 20:16

I went to school with a male Kerry, he was slaughtered for it, sorry.

But then I also went to school with a male Lauren. I was in my 20's before I realised it could be a girl's name.

DuelingFanjo · 11/07/2010 20:17

what about Ceri, the Welsh version? It's a boys name as well as a girls

teamcullen · 11/07/2010 20:22

We have a baby boy called Kelly in our nursery. At first everybody was a bit but he actually really suits it. He is so cute and everybody loves him.

We have a little girl with a typical boys name as well but she carrys it off no problem.

DrivenToDistraction · 11/07/2010 20:25

Everyone knows Kelly and Kerry are generally used for girls, obviously they can (and have) been used for boys as have Hillary and Jodie. It's not really on. These are names transitioning from male to female. Think of how the last male Tracey's must have felt [sh0ck]

He's just as likely, if not much more likely to be teased for Kerry as for Beau.

You and your DP seem only to agree on relatively feminine names. Would you consider Raphael nn Rafe? Still soft but definitely male and (IMO) combining elements of your original favourites, Beau and Rocco.

Or just cut your losses and call him Sue

DrivenToDistraction · 11/07/2010 20:26

Go on, Raphael nn Rafe. It's perfect!

DuelingFanjo · 11/07/2010 20:28

ceri Richards male artist.

Welsh unisex name

AvengingGerbil · 11/07/2010 20:32

This is the only Roscoe for anyone of my generation - Roscoe P Coltrane and his friend Boss Hogg.

DuelingFanjo · 11/07/2010 20:59

or roscoe by Midlake.

CakeandRoses · 11/07/2010 22:17

Not keen on Kerry (sorry if you weren't asking for feedback tho!)

Raphael is gorgeous suggestion though!

Or Gabriel?

Or Jude?

Not actually sure why I've started spouting random names but I'll stop now.

LaRagazzaInglese · 12/07/2010 01:39

Congratulations!
What about Bay Alexander ?

alexisfaith · 12/07/2010 08:18

You could call him Kerr, which is a fab Scottish name, and Kerry could be your own nn for him?

Cinderellarach · 12/07/2010 17:23

The choices are now

Rocco Alexander

Samson Beaumont Alexander

Kerry Samson

My dh does like feminine names so don't know why he thinks he'll get picked on for Beau but not Kelly/Kerry/Jesse!

I do love Rafe! That's made it even more confusing to choose!

Love Bay too.

Thanks so much for comments.

Glad you've got a revised shortlist

From it, I would choose Samson Beaumont Alexander

eatyourveg · 12/07/2010 18:01

Samson Beaumont Alexander for me too.

Yes Dukes of Hazzard! The only Roscoe I could think of was Roscoe P Coltrane just couldn't figure where I knew it from until it was put with Boss Hogg.

Rhuidean · 12/07/2010 18:31

Samson Beaumont Alexander is perfect!
