If you could call your child anything...

... free from thoughts of what people would say, whether its fair to lumber the child with it, how the name sounds shouted across the tesco carpark etc etc, what would you choose?

I would choose:

Girls - Honeysuckle and Pandora

Boys - Wilhelm

(BTW, in real life, my shortlist is Clemency, Clementine, Matilda or Grace for a girl and decided on Felix for a boy - all of which I love of course!)

I'm due 23rd Oct - my first autumn/winter baby

haven't even considered boys names as according to Dh there is no point as it will be another girl

loving Imogen/Arianna/Celeste/Hebe/Sylvie/Beatrice at the moment but this will change on a daily basis until baby arrives

taffetacat · 30/04/2010 21:50

I wanted Bruno but DD wasn't DS2
I wanted Iolanthe but DH laughed at me

largeginandtonic · 30/04/2010 21:53

OOOOh lovely names Dizzy. I like Beatrice. Dd was almost Beatrix. You know we called her India? Well i changed it. That is her middle name now. Everyone calls her Bluebell!

I like Linus for a boy too. You may be surprised. I asked the midwife to check again when dd was born!

dizzydixies · 30/04/2010 21:55

thanks will no doubt be starting countless threads and boring everyone senseless with my mithering over them!

DH will still not budge on Hugo though

angel1976 · 30/04/2010 22:18

DS1 would have been Atticus and DS2 would have been Dashiell. In real life, DS1 is Aidan and DS2 is Theodore.

legallyblond · 04/05/2010 10:48

MrsvWoolf - soooo jealous that you are actually using one of my "if I could choose anything names"! I lOVE both those names. I am still working on DH re Honeysuckle!

Just had to comment and say Congratulations as i'm expecting my 6th on December the 17th too (my Mums birthday).
I haven't dared tell anyone besides my husband yet, i'm just trying to put of the 'are you mad?' comments for as long poss .

I've always loved the names Violet and Miranda, unfortuantely my husband doesn't. I've called my boys by my favourite names already.

Patsy99 · 04/05/2010 14:48

My fantasy boy's name was Diggory. But having just seen the other thread I think it's now Kermit.

Actually Clemency for a girl.

mumofeightplusfour · 04/05/2010 14:54

emerald , gladys or cecily or clodagh for a girl but dh said no
jeremiah or josiah or cillian or aubrey for a boy again dh vetoed

mixedmamameansbusiness · 04/05/2010 16:03

I know a Pandora and she completely suits it.. in the nicest possible way.

legallyblond · 04/05/2010 17:16

Patsy99 - your "if I dared name" Clemency is no 1 on our shortlist! I think we're going to use it!

Thanks Violet5

A huge congratulations to you Most friends have been lovely. Maybe they just accept my lunacy and don't feel the need to comment?!

Mumtoeightplusfour do you really have 12 children? Wow! I would have exhausted my name choices by now. I am struggling with no.8

Clemency is a gorgeous name

Patsy99 · 05/05/2010 12:42

I know a barrister called Clemency actually. If she makes it up to being a judge her name will be perfect. Great name.

AmeliaEarhart · 09/05/2010 23:16

Hepzibah for a girl (Eppi for short), Luka for a boy. Neither would stand a chance of getting past DH.
I've also had to abandon Noah (alliterates with surname), Miriam (DH says it "doesn't grab him"), Penelope (SIL's name)and Martha (friends have a 2 year old with the same name).

mebythesea · 11/05/2010 21:29

brimfull · 11/05/2010 21:30

asdx2 · 11/05/2010 21:36

Girl - Penelope nn Penny
Boy - Rocco

pinefarmpooperscooper · 11/05/2010 21:42

I loved Delilah for DD
And i loved Rupert for DS
Hubby didn't like either.
I also love Jasper - but surname made it sound like Jasper Carrott

ddgm · 11/05/2010 21:52

Always wanted Montanna for a girl had 4 kids and alway begged for a girl yo call it montanna but dh hated it (only had one girl and she hates it too) supposed shes lucky i didnt get my way

gladtoliveinademocracy · 11/05/2010 21:56

i always wanted to give a ds Mandela as a middle name but EVERYONE i have ever mentioned this to has looked as me as if i was mad my ds has a much more boring but lovely middle name though!

pinefarmpooperscooper · 11/05/2010 22:07

I sometimes wonder if my children have boring/ common names, but then i think, atleast they aren't saddled with anything too unusual, and it won't hinder them in anyway, and that they must be nice names to be so popular!
