Is Beau pretentious?

What do you think of when you hear the name Beau?Thanks

I knew a Beau who owned a junkyard/ car parts lot in a blue collar suburb of a small midwestern US city. There was a sign on the fence that said "Protected by shotgun 4 days a week. U guess what days."

I like the sound of that sign. Enigmatic, threatening.

Oh, and I like Beau. I think it's rather charming, myself. But I am not American.

Beauregard is pretentious. Beau is I think at the other end of the scale, and Bo is really seriously naff.

I kinda like it aswell.

Then again I like Beau Bridges so may be biased

But Beau - no. You wouldn't call a child 'Handsome' in case he wasn't (and in fact even if he were).

I know a little boy who is called Beau, and although I wouldn't choose it (I'm a traditionalist....), I like it and I think it suits him.

His little sister is called Belle....

The only Beau I know is an English 50 something gay man - it's not his real name - he chose it himself. Seems to suit him though....

I am not keen on Beau (which is deffo a boy's name btw) for the same reason I would avoid Grace.

Its quite pretty I know of a girl with that name, but hers is short for bodacia ( not sure if I've spelt that right) but she has always been known as Beau, she is about 7

Horse's name (unless short for Boudicea, in which case old english and cool).

So redneck/horse/dog or plain awful...
A few people seem to like it but most don't!

It's a lovely name, Beau for a boy and Bo for a girl. Never ask anyone elses opinion on names (except, perhaps, husband!)and especially not on MN. Keep them quiet until you introduce child with its name!!

Haven't we forgotten Bo and Luke Duke? That's expat's argument proven right there.

With added hillbilly points for going phonetic because of not being able to cope with all those vowels.

You don't know that he/she/it is going to be beautiful. It's also a label.

Names don't have to be "different", to be interesting. It's the Person that wears them, that's interesting.

I'm Irish (with a naming pattern); and my Husband is Scottish Aristocracy (with a naming pattern).

Btw I'm half Irish half English.

I'm all Irish (to 1597); born and bred in Ireland and an French Grandmother thrown in on my Mother's side in the last generation.

I think calling a child "Beau" is dreadful.

I adhered to my Irish naming pattern for my one and only child, and I was proud to do so.

Labelling and naming a child as "Beau"; "beautiful"; seems a dreadful thing/legacy to hang on a child/ a name.

It's a made up name. One that has never existed in times gone bye;
And there's a reason for that.

Because ...It's a stupid name.

It puts a burden on the child from the moment they're born.

A name is a short cut; and Beau can only be a burden. It might be cute when they're 7 weeks old; but it won't be so cute when they're 70 years old.
