because it's cute, but everyone has a problem with this :-s

Thoughts?

We're not religious or associate in any religious circles, I just like the name.

unless you live in a Spanish speaking country... NO

Our DS has initials JC... that's bad enough IMO

crumpette · 04/02/2010 11:24

I know a lovely Jesus

He is Spanish but living in London

all his friends call him Bob

He prefers Bob because nobody mispronounces it, feels awkward around it etc

If you're hispanic then it's OK as long as you never, ever, let your child live in an English speaking country

wastingaway · 04/02/2010 13:05

My Uncle is known as Jesse in English-speaking countries.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 04/02/2010 14:45

I like it when pronounced the Spanish way, but would think slightly of it the English way, I also like the Muslim version Isa ALOT.

HSMM · 04/02/2010 15:04

I went to a school with a boy named Jesus. Didn't think twice about it. (Not sure what it was like for him as an adult though)

Firawla · 05/02/2010 13:44

I think its okay actually...
I know people with the Arabic version Isa/Eesa which I consider normal so why not the english one? I wouldn't have a problem with it, but as it seems so many people have such a bad reaction you need to consider if it will be upsetting for your child if you call him that and people react badly
then if you feel worried about that, you can just put it middle name or something?

LaRagazzaInglese · 05/02/2010 17:43

The cons weigh heavier than the pro's. There are plenty of other nice cute names without being an issue for your son. Maybe as a middle name? Madonna's boyf will soon fade.

I think this is a massive wind-up.

ZOMBIE THREAD

Mamabear88 · 09/01/2020 20:46

You've asked for people's thoughts on here yet you're very defensive of people expressing their honest opinions OP...

I think it's fine if you pronounce it the Spanish way. Otherwise it's a no from me i'm afraid.

midsomermurderess · 09/01/2020 20:56

Have at it. In his[amici's countries, it's quite acceptable.

Jossina · 10/01/2020 04:08

@butadream thank you for that laugh :D

BasilOfBakerStreet · 10/01/2020 16:10

I really hope there isn't a 10 year old Jesus running around Huns Stanton.

redbullgivesyouflings · 10/01/2020 18:38

It's a common name in Latin America and I'd pronounce it 'ye-sus'. Not sure I'd use that name in Britain though.

redbullgivesyouflings · 10/01/2020 18:39

Wow sorry didn't notice it was a zombie thread!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 11/01/2020 08:24

I know it's not unusual in Hispanic cultures but it is pretty unusual everywhere else....

That kid would seriously stand out and they may not thank you for it as they get older.....

PumpkinMun · 11/01/2020 11:51

meoww - You've asked for peoples thoughts on the name, I can only assume to help you decide if it is a name you will for sure use. Unfortunately these opinions are quite negative but they are exactly what you asked for ... peoples thoughts.
You absolutely have the right to name your child Jesus because your thought on the name is that its beautiful. You will after all have your son and be responsible for registering his name.
I do however feel this thread shows the bullying your son will be subject to with the name Jesus.
I honestly think any mum would be heartbroken to have their child bullied by other children and I wonder is it worth giving said child a name that will only lead to bullying.
It would be nice to think people he comes across in life will have an open mind but I'm sure you understand this won't always be the case.
Kids can be cruel and if you do decide to use the name I would hope your prepared to deal with the unfortunate situations your Son will be faced with throughout his life.
